You mean the phone that came out a month ago? What did you expect? That happens for every new device that comes out, it doesn't mean there's no development or that it's a failure. It just means it's a new phone, not many own it, new technology to crack, etc...:good:

I been looking for a rom to port a few app over to the s5

I was looking at getting it, but I can't be on the phone and Internet at the same time, lame.

I am a rep for Verizon and Samsung advocate I must say the S6 has the worst design I have ever seen. On the up side it has the best screen I have ever seen. Glass back and raised camera is just the worst idea and main reason I got away from Apple that and no removable storage

If it drops on its edge, seems like the screen would fracture immediately!

If you drop it with no case the whole phone will crack front and back.

There's a one-click solution to rooting the latest S5 build number that doesn't involve downgrading firmware? Dang, apparently I've been away! Do you have a link to this? That would be awesome, thanks.

You still have to downgrade to ncg firmware, but it's a one click app that does it. But the s5 is still perfectly rootable, it's easy.

No you have to downgrade and towelroot. You claimed there was no root for the S5, there certainly is, it's just not a one-click method.

It wasn't really clear by your initial comment what you meant. You're not going to get a 1 click root for the S5. Once the TR process was made, that was it, root achieved. The phone can be rooted, so no more development needs to go into an already proven concept, just so some people won't have to downgrade. :good:

It's pretty dumb they didn't enable this out of the box. On Verizon, you need to go into your vzw account and enable the free option for "advanced calling 1.0". It'll push VOLTE to your phone, which you can enable in settings -> mobile networks (i think it's under some other menu item on the S6). Bang, it'll now do both. I know, dumb.

Which means VZW probably has some trickery in this to permalock the bootloader, so be careful.
Can anybody please check what languages does 4.3 have and if they're any different from 4.1.2? As we won't have root as of now, I'm afraid to lose support of one specific language enabled by Language Enabler. Thanks in advance!

I am completely psyched for this!! I passed on a galaxy s6 just so I could still use my microsd card from my htc one remix, and I passed on a g4 for the fingerprint scanner so this is awesome news for this device, I would love to use cyanogenmod on here and its a definite positive knowing that once this is released, I can use marshmallow before its official ota release too! Plus the chance of this phone becoming dead in the forums will be slim to nothing once this is released, this is absolutely amazing news in my opinion. I don't care if they charge to unlock the bootloader or not, I'll be one of the first too pay to get mine unlocked and then I can be one of the cool kids with roms again lol ?
---------- Post added at 07:11 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:10 PM ----------
And the Verizon would pay quote I think is bs, they're making money either way, they could care less.
I hope it works. I have the dev edition and development is getting stale. This would open up a lot more development, assuming the devs haven't already abandoned this phone.
Only a few more months with the phone, why not go out in style! Hope this is true.
And they're probably going to sit on this and never do anything with it, or worse, sell the exploit to Samsung/Verizon. :/
Does this mean those of us who have unrooted, stock OG5 builds might also get root? Normally root comes first, then maybe unlocking the boot loader, correct? I am noob, but was hoping an unlocked boot loader might make a root exploit easier as well. Am I crazy?
Root, with the unlocked bootloader, would mean I could finally get out of my stock Verizon rom (when I'm on a t mobile mvno).

It depends on what the unlock method requires. If it needs root then it won't work. If it doesn't need root then it's likely that OG5 will be able to unlock.

Once bootloader is unlocked, the possibility is unlimited, any custom roms can be flash and root is just a piece of cake. If the bootloader is unlocked, we can flash a custom kernel where it allowed to root....at will. ...
And i just saw this comment and it made me sad.

If OEMs or Carriers bought exploits, I would be rich and no longer be posting on XDA. They don't.
According to what he's actually doing on the computer via ADB, he's using root commands which means it may require root. This is only speculation though because he does flash a bootloader file via Odin too and obviously you don't need root for Odin.
So essentially it could just be as easy as flashing a bootloader file via Odin.

It should be packed into something like sunshine or mofo, my two cents is that developers who find exploits should take money for it because if not you get burnt out easily.

With the newest software, root is somewhat useless. Xposed may not work correctly, no OTA, plus note 5 has the electronic root thing, so when you tooth the phone, it is tripped and can never be returned to original state, thus, service providers will know it is rooted and may deny repair, replacement.

Rooting and unlocking UK Galaxy S6 on EE

Hey guys, I recently purchased a second hand Galaxy S6 (not an Edge variant) and I'm curious as to how exactly, I go about rooting it in order to unlock it. I remember rooting my S3 was relatively straight forward, but this seems a little more complex partly due to just how many options there are for all the different models.
I'm on Android 5.1.1, and my build number is currently: LMY47X.G920FXXU3QOJF
If anybody could point me towards a relevant guide or provide a little more information, that'd be awesome. Cheers!

Would this Kernel suffice? http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...nt/kernel-hacker-kernel-s6-universal-t3254487
Also, as a result, would this make my phone automatically unlocked from all network carriers?
You can use that kernel. I use SpaceX kernel. They are both with autoroot.
I dont know if it unlock all network carriers. I think phone can already support different ROM's from different carriers.
I flashed for example French ROM. And now im on the official dutch again

Did last year's snapdragon S7 ever get root? I'm not used to this because all previous Galaxy phones were international, but my carrier is selling the U1 model this time around and not "F" varients... Im not holding my breathe for custom recovery/roms bit would be nice to use titanium backup and ad away...

The S7 got what we called ENGBOOT root. Which was not really full functioning root. It required you to flash a Samsung created engineering kernel, that is purposely unstable, but is designed to help Samsung repair shops fix corrupt devices.
With some tweaking root was achieved, but the bootloader stayed locked. And the performance was so degraded by the engineering kernel MOST people went back to stock and never used root.
Sadly rooting and ROMing most phones is going away. Especially now that Google is providing an easy way for developers to turn off access to an app if the user is rooted. Right now even if you have root you can't use Netflix, Samsung Pay, Android Pay, among many others.
If you want root still I'd look at a 1+ or the Essential phone or the international model if this phone. Otherwise you are probably out of luck.

Since you have been so helpful at crushing my root dreams lol j/k.. Is there a way to get what I'm looking for i.e.
Ad-less youtube
Ad-away
And maybe a way to freeze/uninstall apps
All without being rooted?
Its been a long time since I had a stock phone and the freaking advertisements have gone wild... Thanks I appreciate it

Yes.
I have been using AdClear for a while now and it works great including in YouTube. The development team has an xda thread that has the downloads and a bunch of great info. Just search xda.
I use BK Package Disabler to freeze apps. It lets you freeze individual processes in apps as well which is great for blocking only certain features of apps. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kunkunsoft.packagedisabler
For making a back to restore I actually like Samsung's Smart Switch. Works great to backup your phone to a computer.
Also in Developer settings you can manually address your DPI, and over in the S8 International threads there is a list of about 40+ fonts that can be installed.

Galaxy S7 edge
I have an s8 and s8+ unlocked on TMobile. Want to use on Optus in Australia and then when I return on AT&T. Optus uses band 28 which T-Mobile doesn't . In another thread someone suggeted flashing G950U1 XAA, is this the "plus" equivalent? Assume steps to flash same? Also is this the download: https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/galaxy-s8/SM-G955U1/XAA/download/G955U1UEU1AQE3/171775/

You could flash the AT&T firmware and get what you need.

So AT&T firmware has advantage over this? Will it matter that it has AT&T firmware using on OPTUS Australia?

One of the phones I may try to sell when over there, though the buyer will have to get his own USB adapter

Yeah it has voice over LTE. And a few other things. Still gets great battery life and you can disable any att features you don't want.

Awesome. Will flash when I get a chance. Hopefully no issues on OPTUS.
This may seem like a stupid question, and I am assuming the answer is no, but does flashing an official firmware lock it to that carrier ?
