Do you still get OTA if you flash stock FW via Odin? - Galaxy S6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

If my phone have the let`s say swedish stock ROM and I update to Polish stock ROM that is a later build date via Odin... do I still get OTA`s for my phone or how does it work?! no knox tripped and all stock, just flashed another stock ROM via odin.

Hi! No tripped knox with odin: flash with stock rom and you keep ota ! Knox is tripped with flashing ,custom recovery or custom kernel auto cfroot.

ahh ok thanx! so it is only when Knox is tripped the OTA stops? will I still get the OTA like the swedesh one (kind of late sometimes) or will I get it with the Polish one?

As long as you are stock with no root and stock recovery OTA works - doesn't matter about knox.
I was rooted (with Knox tripped) but flashed the stock Vodafone over the top to get rid of root a twrp and the ota worked fine.

If I remember correctly when I read the s4 forums a while back you will receive the OTAs for the firmware you downloaded (so you'll get Polish OTA and not the Swedish ones) but I'm not completely sure on that.

Software updates for rooted phone

Hello,,,,,:laugh::laugh:
I have rooted my phone ( using stock rom not custom)
when I check for software update this message comes :
your device hase been modified , software updates are not available
Is there a way to overcome this ?
Or rooted phone software updates available via odin only ....
You can try disabling the update service. And yes, you can't get ota updates. You must flash updates via odin, which is imo not a disadvantage. If you just flash updates via odin, you also don't need to do any wipes.
edit: You need to re-root after updating ROM, stock rom will also bring back stock recovery.

Multiple posts say no or corrupt OTA updates if rooted .
Use Kies to update .
jje
I would just do it with Odin. Pretty fast and reliable, takes me ~3-5 min to flash a whole stock FW (ca. 1,2 GB packed). And no, you won't loose data doing this.
Don't try to do OTA if rooted/on custom recovery!
To know if there is an update just check sammobile every now and then.
easy to fix

Get yourself triangle away - it resets the counter - I had the same problem with stock rom
There are a couple of threads how to do it. Not complicated great software.
Kies will tell you about any new update - dont use kies for actual update as you will loose root and you have to start all over again
Use odin to do yr incremental update -again there are several threads here
I personally just want to be rooted no custom room
Happy with my simple root

Actually, if he only flashed CWM to root and no custom ROM at all, the counter will be zero. Flashing a stock ROM with ODIN will not increase Counter.
I used framaroot app.
Installed superuser and sam exploit. It stated it was modified...crap!. I ran it again using supersu and frodo exploit and everything now states official. Including in download.
Im running stock 4.1.2 with root and everytjing official. I didnt use triangle away.

GT-I9500 4.3 Root/Recovery/Flashing Discussion

Hi guys thought id open a new thread for discussion about root issues some are facing on 4.3 with custom kernels and recovery issues.
Seems like you dont have to fash the new bootloader but if you already did then this thread is for you please feel free to post findings and solutions.
Bootloader
Has any one tried downgrading to olderbootloader?
Hey guys...
It seems like its very unclear on updating to 4.3 w/o triggering knox on the i9500
I have been reading that you will be stuck in bootloop simply flashing a 4.3 custom rom via CWM if you are on a 4.2.2 ROM? I have read this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2494509 but I am still unclear on updated to a 4.3 based TW rom without triggering knox 0x1
Can we simply flash a stock 4.3 tar file in odin without triggering knox?
Tried to change bootloader
Hi guys,
Initially I've installed INS-I9500XXUEMJ5 through Odin v3.09 which did not trigger the warranty bit. I had an issue with the notification bar which will get stuck after a call. I had to make an another call / dial a number to view the notification bar again. After 4 days i found an updated version INU-I9500XXUEMJ8 and installed through Odin v3.09. This install did not affected the warranty bit . The same problem with the notification bar existed. I thought of installing a different stock bootloader and it triggered the warranty bit to 1. Also, the device was not booting up. But luckily download mode came and i installed the same firmware which made my device working. But the warranty bit was still 1.

[Guide] [HowTo] Downgrade 4.4.2 to 4.2.2 [i9500]

Downloads :
XFE-I9500XXUBMH1
Recommended :
make EFS backup
instructions :
1- open odin
2- flash XFE-I9500XXUBMH1 via odin
after you finish, system will show custom, but you need just to flash another 4.2.2 firmware >> download
if you wipe cache and the phone reboots
just flash custom recovery then wipe cahce & data, elc...
then flash stock
can any one test this??? If OP find way to downgrade firmware in 9500 meybe we find way do to downgrade in 9505.
But one question to OP. Do you modded this firmware??? Do you have old Bootloader???
I have a guide on how to downgrade i9505, but the thread closed because I gave a link to mobile odin

after downgrading is any way to reset my knox back
Till now there is no way to reset knox
with this method, I could unlock my phone as is referred to in this guide? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2282683
im on KK with galaxy s4 i9500
So you want to downgrade then you want to unlock your phone?
Downgrade with firmware XFE-I9500XXUBMH1 work because of one thing
IT DOES NOT HAVE SBOOT.IMG (the bootloader)
it's not a real downgrade because the bootloader is still in 4.3 or 4.4 with KNOX !
Thanks !
Does it apply to I9505 ? If so, how and what do i need?

in any stock rom you have the kernel (boot.img) and the bootloader (sboot.img)
if your phone have a knox bootloader, then you could only flash a knox bootloader (the version does not meter for the moment)
for exemple you could downgrade to stock 4.3 without any modification or removing sboot because v4.3 have a bootloader with knox this is the only way to downgrade the bootloader it's with an other knox bootloader
about erasing knox value this is impossible without sophisticated way like Jtag or replacing the motherboard

when i talk about stock i mean samsung release not release made by xda members.

I readed a thread where they did : 1) flash 4.1 on kit kat, 2) OTA to be on 4.2. so they totally deleted knox because bootloader of 4.2 does not contain knox ? so if after you upgrade to 4.3 knox should be 0 ? no ? i reade it but i didn't care about that because knox is not a problem for me ^^

2) OTA to 4.2 and magic knox is totally erased
3)OTA to 4.3 kitakat ect and knox is 0
Edit : Knox value change if you downgrade to any sboot.img

Flashing another official ROM

Hi!
Flashing another official ROM using Odin voids my warranty?
Right now I'm on AUT and I would like to flash ROM.
Flashing official stock roms won't trip Knox, hence why it's called official and not custom. Double check your Knox in download mode to see if it has been tripped.
Thank you!
No worries!

Can i root s7 snapdragon without triggering knox?

Im planing on selling my phone in 6 months but the company i want to sell it too does not accept rooted phones. Is there anyway to root and flash standard ROM back without triggering knox?
thanks
Just flash stock ROM onto device via Odin

So after rooting and putting a custom ROM on i can just put my stock ROM back on and thats not going to trigger knox??
If you've installed a custom ROM, I'm fairly sure that should've tripped the knox anyway (Correct me if I'm wrong), but if it didn't flashing stock Rom isn't going to trip it

Custom ROMs don't exist for the S7 US version.
Once tripped, tripped it is.
You talk about a custom ROM. Remember that you need to flash a custom recovery to flash a custom ROM.
Once you flash it, Knox becomes 0x1, tripped for good.
Even if you reflash your device with an official firmware, that will not hide the tripped Knox.
Samsung will always see that it was tampered with.
What you can do is hide root from specific apps, while using a rooted divece, but that's another story.
No one can revert Knox from 0x1 back to 0x0, at least not with any software.
