Hello,,,,,:laugh::laugh:
I have rooted my phone ( using stock rom not custom)
when I check for software update this message comes :
your device hase been modified , software updates are not available
Is there a way to overcome this ?
Or rooted phone software updates available via odin only ....
You can try disabling the update service. And yes, you can't get ota updates. You must flash updates via odin, which is imo not a disadvantage. If you just flash updates via odin, you also don't need to do any wipes.
edit: You need to re-root after updating ROM, stock rom will also bring back stock recovery.

Multiple posts say no or corrupt OTA updates if rooted .
Use Kies to update .
jje
I would just do it with Odin. Pretty fast and reliable, takes me ~3-5 min to flash a whole stock FW (ca. 1,2 GB packed). And no, you won't loose data doing this.
Don't try to do OTA if rooted/on custom recovery!
To know if there is an update just check sammobile every now and then.
easy to fix

Get yourself triangle away - it resets the counter - I had the same problem with stock rom
There are a couple of threads how to do it. Not complicated great software.
Kies will tell you about any new update - dont use kies for actual update as you will loose root and you have to start all over again
Use odin to do yr incremental update -again there are several threads here
I personally just want to be rooted no custom room
Happy with my simple root

Actually, if he only flashed CWM to root and no custom ROM at all, the counter will be zero. Flashing a stock ROM with ODIN will not increase Counter.
I used framaroot app.
Installed superuser and sam exploit. It stated it was modified...crap!. I ran it again using supersu and frodo exploit and everything now states official. Including in download.
Im running stock 4.1.2 with root and everytjing official. I didnt use triangle away.

Hi,
I have a P3113.
I want to be able to receive the OTA updates from Samsung, but their OTA update process invokes a reboot into their stock recovery to complete the update. So, if I replace the stock recovery, the official OTA updates wont be able to complete.
But the only way I have seen to "root" a stock ROM was to first replace the stock recovery with CWM recovery, which is need to install a Zip file that does the actual root.
But, once I replace the stock recovery, I will no longer be able to do official OTA updates because they require a stock recovery.
So, what can I do to have a stock ROM and Recovery on my tab, but also be rooted?
If you have the mobile odin pro (paid) and managed to flash stock firmware (the updated one) that you downloaded from www.samfirmware.com (register first) then you will be able to retain root after flashing if you checked the everroot option in mobile odin pro
Or receive the latest firmware via kies then you could root it afterwards ( root the updated firmware)
Or flash the updated firmware from samfirmware via odin pc 1.85 and then root again as usual
As i know no flashable zip to flash to give you the stock recovery
I suggest update via pc odin and forgetting about update via kies
If anytime you want to use kies for update, you could flash first stock firmware via pc odin then update or flash the updated firmware directly then root

Thanks for the info - very helpful.
So am I correct in my understanding here, I can flash stock with mobile Odin, keep my root have stock recovery and then be able to get ota updates without a problem (or use kies to get the update, either way is fine by me).
If I am correct I love you all more and more everyday I come here
Just trying to confirm my understanding

So this is kind of a bump since I am trying to understand if I am correct here. I am still new to all this and want to learn things.
If I use Mobile Odin Pro to flash stock firmware with EverRoot on my P3113, then I can still receive normal updates either via OTA or Kies (which is preferred?). This will keep stock recovery, for the updates, and preserve my root so I can enjoy the benefits.
Does this plan run the risk of bricking on updating? Due to the fact that it is rooted, I thought you can NOT do a regular update (or was that just because of CWM being the recovery?).
What happens when Jelly Bean goes to roll out, will this brick the device since it is a whole new OS? Will this break root and I will need to re-root?
Just trying to understand everything before I make a decision on how I proceed with my device from here. I have never used Mobile Odin, and this is my first rooted device, so I apologize for my questions, but how else will I learn?
Thanks for your time, and your help, and as I said I love you all more and more each time I come around here, since I usually learn something new

Sorry guys it's right there in development.
What gives? I'm using my P5113 and i want to official stock unroot my tab. So what i did was apply triangle away and wipe to stock ICS firmware via mobile odin (which does not raise the flash counter). I would then upgrade to JB firmware OTA and now when i click for updates i get the "Your device has been modified. Software updates are not available." message. Even if i check about<status it says my device status is custom. This method should "officialize" my tab 2, but what gives? I need it to be Official unrooted stock firmware with no signs of modification. Please help!
Edit:
I once again did the same method but i am now back to ICS stock where i am able to update to JB but i am choosing not to, If i check the status, it now comes up as modified instead of custom. Is there a way to show stock?
Ummm , yeah, stock is stock , get rid of any crapware or root it , it becomes unofficial

Even if i reflashed the official firmware and removing the flash count?
If so is there a way for Samsung to know the warranty is void? The method i follow is said to work from a guide here at XDA.

Thats's right if you need back to orginal stock system easiest way is :
- flash it to official stock samsung rom - (best way by odin so it will also put back default recovery program)
- root this stock firmware
- use triangle away to reset flash counter
- flash it once again with odin to stock rom (to unroot it)

This didn't seem to work, i used mobile odin pro to flash to stock again while i had stock recovery. I think it still raises the flash counter. Do you think it would work if i unroot it with super su?
You are still rooted with stock rom? That will be problem. If you flashed with mobile odin pro there was an option to root rom while being flashed if i remember correctly try to untick that option
I can confirm that the Super SU method works. I am now official. Thanks for the help everyone!

Dude,
Follow this procedure.
1 Flash ClockworkMod Recovery (CWM)
2 Root the Device
3 Clear Flash Counter from Triangle Away
4 Do wipe data/factory reset through CWM
5 Install Mobile Odin
6 Extract Stock Recovery (Recovery.img) from Stock Rom.
7: Flash it Stock Recovery from Mobile Odin
This is Pure Stock Rom with Root. You should be able to Update your device with OTA updates

This is exactly what i did multiple times and i made sure it was an unrooted flash vith mobile odin, it still seemed to raise my flash counter by 1.
So instead i did your method but rooted it afterwards and then resetted the flash counter. Later i unrooted the device with super su and wiped data using stock recovery. I am now back to normal.
First of Hello to all the XDA members . I'm new in here , also new in using android OS & hoping to get help from you guys .
I have a Samsung Galaxy tab2 P3100 , after lots of searching I'm unable to find any process to move game data to the External sd card without root , So I had to root my device only for that issue by Odin using the easiest process but never install any custom ROM . After that everything goes well with moving data.
Now Samsung is offering 4.1.2 update for tab 2 , but I'm unable to update my device officially for the root issue by OTA or Kies . Now my questions are
1. Is it possible to update via OTA without loosing root ? If yes , then how ?
2. If I unroot my device to update via OTA , is there any working other procedure to move data to external memory card ?
I'm attaching to images of the current version details of my device & the notification that I'm getting by trying to update it via OTA .
1. Is it possible to update via OTA without loosing root ? If yes , then how ?
NO
2. If I unroot my device to update via OTA , is there any working other procedure to move data to external memory card ?
NO
why dont you just download your latest firmware from sammobile.com then root it?

Yes you can update through Kies but u have to unroot ur tab.
Steps:
1. install Triangle away to reset counter to 0.
2. unroot completely through SuperSu.
3. Then wipe data/factory reset ur tab.
4. Now Connect to Kies and update ur tab.
Alternate method
u can flash stock rom through odin and official stock rom can be downloaded from this link:
http://www.hotfile.com/dl/200000232/429d471/P3100DDCMC1_P3100ODDCMC1_INU.zip.html
enjoy............
Thanks to both of you for your helps ,
yesterday I have installed triangle away to set the counter to 0 ,
then completed unrooting with SuperSU ,
After that downloaded the Stock rom from Sam mobile & then flashed my tab with it .
But after flashing the device with it the status still shows "Custom" & the update device option "Keep on checking for software update & never ends"
I have also checked with root checker & it says my device is not rooted .
So , please help me to bring my device official status back & make the update device option working .

I guess EverRoot option in Mobile ODIN will root the firmware while you flash it & I will not lose root .
But I don't want root , I just want that my device status change from "custom" to "official" & also make the OTA works normally .
follow...........
so r u ready to unroot ur tab.
Follow this
Flash ur rom with older firmware using mobile odin pro with everroot and inject supersu checked.
check ur counter flash and it should be zero. uninstall triangle. unroot ur tab completely rom from supersu option. restart ur tab now press power and vol+ toghter.
Now wipe data.
restart now connect ur tab through kies and update it to latest firmware.
u r status is now official.

Can you find the last official firmware for your tab/region on sammmobile? The flash count shouldn't matter, but i have found that the custom part is what you need to worry about. Try using Odin for PC. Whenever i flash official firmware with it it reads as official firmware and allows ota.
Edit, I'm just thinking that it would be much easier for you to use a PC to just flash the firmware, and not worry about unrooting and all that.

Ill see if i can find it. I usually just use an old ICS firmware i found on here, and that brings me back to official status and can update from there.
OK found it. I wouldn't use the file, maybe just find a firmware that you know worked on your tab, an old ICS for instance.

You could get better help if you would have included your country and the firmware or build number that your current using.
With that said.... goto samfirmware and download the latest firmware for your device. Then use odin to flash the firmware, you should then have latest update and you can then root again.
There are other methodes but I think this is the least complicated.

Yes, flashing a new firmware with PC Odin will remove root,.
I have not done it in a while but from what I remember all data remains in tack, just don't do a factory reset.
I do believe that there is a way to install a factory firmware in mobile Odin and keep root but I have never done that method.

My phone is rooted, and has TWRP custom recovery installed.
The phone automatically downloaded the OTA, and tried to install it. With TWRP, the update failed and my phone is working fine now.
I don't need the rooting anymore (was for teetering, but with new data plan it's now included). So I'm okay with losing the root and all.
Using SuperSU I deselected the rooting, and after reboot RootCheck tells me my phone is not rooted. I still have TWRP installed.
Now, I'm stock MF1/ 4.1.2. How do I install the 4.3 update and remove the TWRP recovery? I found in another thread the 4.3 Tar file. Do I simply use Odin on my PC and flash it on my phone? What about TWRP?

Are you sure you want the 4.3, this latest rom will lock your bootloader permanently, meaning you will NOT able to install CWM,TWRP, custom rom/kernel or downgrade the OS to the early version. The only thing you can do once updated is root. If you still decided to upgrade, just Odin the full rom MF1 here http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23134718111254196 then after bootup your OS should auto update to the latest (OTA).

if you download this full firmware http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23134718111254196 unzip the file then use Odin to flash, this will bring you back to pure stock rom with stock recovery (no more twrp/cwm). After this you will be prompt for OTA and just take the upgrade. Once done you should be on the latest factory 4.3 with locked bootloader.
I ended up downloading the 4.3 files from another post here, and flashing it with Odin. Worked fine.
Of course, without a root, can't recover my apps from Titanium but oh well.

Is there a way to install 4.3 w/out removing root? If not, since I never used odin, and used twrp what steps do/should I take to get back to where I can install 4.3?
Thank you.

Since your life is too busy and you don't want to mess with your phone anymore, your best bet is go back to stock 4.3 which is very good by the way, very stable, smooth and bug free. After so many complaints from my wife I rolled it back to stock 4.3 and she's so happy now.
1. Flash stock MF1 here http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23134718111254196 , just unzip the flash with Odin
2. Your phone should take the 4.3 OTA update and you're home free.
