My next phone will defo be one of those, though solid details on both are scarce if existent at all.....
I really hope the 3gb ram rumours are true.
If there is finally no lag on touch wiz with note 3 I'll go there if not then nexus 5 steals my cash.
Right now feeling the pinch of UK s3 limit of 1gb ram, but still loving my first taste of android even a year later, my second phone the iPhone 4s only gets a look in when I need a separate business phone or this battery is low.
Originally intended to get a windows 8 lumia but they hadn't been released and ICS/jelly bean had ensured that I haven't regretted it
Which of the two do you anticipate more and why?

Note 3 for sure. Note 2 is my favorite phone ever, it's only right that I get it's successor.

Actually, most of the Note 3's specs were leaked today: http://www.sammobile.com/2013/06/09...ra-ii-and-galaxy-s4-lte-advanced-coming-soon/
Note 3, without question.
Wow crazy... If it gets 3gb ram too that thing is taking over my life! Wedding is off, she can find a new man, just leave me to my note 3, take the iPad if you want...

I have the original Galaxy Note and have loved it (came from a Galaxy SII). I've been wanting to get the Note 2 for the past few months and not sure I'll be able to hold out since I'm getting antsy for a new phone. If i can somehow suppress my impulse to buy the Note 2, I will be anxiously awaiting the release of the Note 3...after all, we're only talking a matter of 4 months or so..right? :fingers-crossed:

Apart from the slightly bigger screen there is not a great deal more to get excited about the Note 3. 13 MP? Irrelevant. Worst : it is actually detrimental to imagine quality in such tiny sensors. FHD? What for? Now, if they improve the sunlight legibility of the screen which is IMO one of the drawbacks of the current screen, that might make me think twice.
I also have my eyes on the upcoming Xperia Z Ultra. Looks like a real contender to the Note 3 although I'm afraid it is just too big.

FHD Why? Well, because some of us DO see the difference. I don't want anything below 1080 ever again.
Oh, I don't know. The 3GB RAM maybe? Or maybe the fact it's either going to be a Snapdragon 800 or an Exynos Octa?
The camera I don't give a sh*t about. I carry my DSLR everywhere anyway.
With higher density displays you do see a better quality even if you can't see any more individual pixels - the more pixels making up the smallest visible "particle" the more detail and colour clarity you will experience, it's like cd vs a brand new vinyl, the vinyl records lots of frequencies that the human ear can't pick up while the CD is limit to the human spectrum, yet vinyls on a good system that have not worn out the tracts yet have a much warmer palette of sounds, the insensible waves have an effect on the sensible and the same happens with screens, if you play a 4k video on a 1000ppi screen theoretically you'd see a far better image than on a 1020 440 ppi which is visibly better than on a 720 on a 326ppi which is considered roughly retina. Don't let apple brainwash you into thinking that retina is the best you can get, it's clear yes, but it can look nicer than our already amazing top end screens do.
Usually the difference isn't noticeable instantly, but when you try to go back to the lower quality you notice the difference, try looking at an old android device from 2010 or an iPhone 3gs... Blurry as hell but at the time I couldn't imagine a better screen.

Personally I would say the Note 3, I am getting mine this weekend. If you really use your phone for videos and gaming and just overall alot of screen time and like big phones/screens, then get the Note 3. If you don't use your phone for other then maybe a few games or apps here and there and don't like big phones/screens get the Nexus 5. The Nexus 5 is a good phone, but all in all it isn't really a multimedia phone in my opinion. Though so might say otherwise.
The Nexus phones are really meant for developers: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Android_Dev_Phone
it should come down to cost and potentially hand size.
The note 3 is slightly better, but significantly more expensive.
If cost is a factor or if you have girl hands, go N5. If cost isn't a factor and/or you have man hands, go note 3.

As a woman, I object to that.
Anything over 4" is too big to hold as a woman, so what does it matter if it is 5 or 5.7"? (Put that thing back in your pants lads, your phallus does not have a screen, let alone the ability to multitask.)
I wouldn't go back to a smaller phone if they paid me for it. No way.

Nexus 5 is a lot cheaper, for the price it's hard to beat. Still though the Note 3 is a much better phone overall.

I think you probably posted in the wrong forum to get an honest opinion.
I've been contemplating this too. Price is a factor. I also like the clean look vs the mess of status bar icons. Although it looks like I can address that through themes etc. The biggest things for me is the bigger screen and battery. I may go back to a Nexus device sometime, but for now I decided on the Note 3

They do have the same processor.
No comparison, the Note has sd card and changeable battery. Those are absolutely essential for me so the nexus doesn't even bear consideration.

Agreed. Those were my factors plus the multi window capability.
I have a Note 3 even though I was going to get a Nexus to receive the updates sooner. When they released the Nexus 5 I feared I would regret buying the Note, but no. I love this device and I don't think Nexus 5 offers a lot more compared to this, and it doesn't have spen. But keep in mind I wanted a big phone to replace a tablet too, so if you want something smaller and don't nees the spen, Nexus is an excellent choice for the price.

Sure it's cheaper and that's why it lacks the 40% of the things that N3 has.
I repeat you cannot compare 2 devices that are in 2 different categories with the biggest different imo the pen. Only phones with pen can be compared. Academically speaking nexus is great device for its price really but honestly if you go for N3 and used to the pen abilities there is no going back. I haven't touched with fingers except some zoom in/out since day 1.

Absolutely but the op hasn't really been clear about what they want from a phone so I stated the only logical reason to choose the Nexus 5 - price.

Go Nexus if you don't care about its poor battery life. At least you will be free of this Knox and locked bootloaders crap. It's also way cheaper and you will have way more roms and customizations available.

Congratulations on your first post I was in the same situation, whether to wait for Nexus 5 (still own Nexus 4) or buy this beast. And as you said it, I never regreted it, absolutely beatifull peace of hardware. And surprisingly, love the amoled and its deep blacks. I am back on Samsung after years of HTC/Google phones. Still need to get used to S-Pen, barely ever using it, but the phone is excellent even without it.
Got a Nexus 5, loved it but had issues with my 3UK home signal box so got a Note 3. Personally I prefer the Nexus 5 as its much easier to handle. Nexus I can use with one hand but when I do the same with the Note 3 I feel like i'm going to drop it. Both are amazing phones but to me 5" is the sweet spot for the mobile phone screen size.

So.. you compare specs.. whats the point ?
What a terrible biased "review" of both devices.
* You buy a Samsung Note series device for the S-Pen first, and whatever they throw in including the kitchen sink is icing on the cake
* You buy the Note 3 for the expandable memory and the removable battery! In which case you can add on a 2nd oem battery or use a plethora of external higher capacity batteries that are available
* what about the triple mic's on the note 3? The adaptive sound dsp?
* How easy to not mention about multi-window use on the note 3, the killer slow motion with 1/4, 1/3, 1/2 speed adjustments, the browse while you stream video window ability with the stock video player, the adjustable AMOLED color profiles, bluetooth 4.0LE, advanced modes, the wifi-direct modes
* what about the screen writing which works amazingly well? The s-Pen command mode with scrapbook, screen write, and the pressure sensitive screen???!!
* Don't forget the sensors on the note 3: Accelerometer, gyro, proximity, compass, barometer, temperature, humidity, gesture
* how good the camera really is and no camera focus lag like on a nexus 5
* even if you guys don't like touchwiz, a simple launcher can fix that. But the bulk of the phone is made even better by samsung, really.
* and best of all it works on Verizon's network. Supports simultaneous LTE data and CDMA voice.
The pros on the nexus 5:
* price <---
* OIS in camera but what's the point when the extremely laggy focusing is in play
* IPS screen with ultra pixel density; at least no worries like SAMOLED screen burn
Those are about the 3 pro's going for the nexus in my book. I don't want stock android for it does NOTHING! Samsung threw in all the whiz bang features and if you don't like the features turn them off. At least you have that feature to turn off vs. a stock android which has nothing! I find it interesting the so called hard core android user choose nexus because they choose to have stock everything on the phone no extras. But what is the point of owning a smartphone in which you don't have any fancy features? Why not just get a regular dumb phone and call it a day.
And the article states you rarely change batteries - what a joke - because when my battery gets near 30% which is about 1day to 1.5days/2days time, I just swap it out in less than 40 seconds with a fresh one waiting in the charger. I use a 64GB Samsung mSD card now to hold all the 4K videos and 60fps 1080p videos and also the mic on the note 3 is extremely good! You can even zoom in the mic!
You shouldn't even compare the note 3 to the nexus 5 because the note 3 really is a fantastic phablet. The nexus 5 is a good phone for the price but again, if you want stock android that does nothing, go for it!

If you have the money for the note 3, it is a no brainer.
But nexus devices are still amazing.

Had both - started with the Note 3,sold it for the nexus 5, sold the nexus 5...and there I am, back with a black Note 3
The nexus is a BEAUTY! I love the design, the handling, the screen...I love the speed, the back of the device, the simplicity.
BUT:
I just can't go with a SP on which i can't rely on in terms of battery life. Not a great step forward from the nexus 4 - i am more a heavy user. And folks : if i have to turn off Google now just to be able to get through the day, there is seriously sth wrong. I want to be "power independent" and that is simply impossible with the nexus. And still the camera is kind of bad.
No, the Note wins in all terms. (at least for me)

Hey all! I have owned the S6 for 4 months now and previously owned a Note 4 for 6 months.
I'm thinking to go back to the Note 4 and ditch the Note 5. What do you think?
Well, question for you is what size of display is better for you. Personally i switched from Note 4 to the S6 because Note was too big for my small hands. Also S6 has new touchwiz that is incredibly fast for me. It's like 50% faster than old version.
Note 4 has old fingerprint scanner. If you're thinking about Note 5 then you need to know about size. I was talking about this.

Size doesn't matter, the functionality and battery life does for me. I dont know if the 5.1.1 on the note 4 has the new touchwiz. But from the reviews I've read, note 4 seems more efficient than note 5
Hi all,
I've had my note 3 (n9005) for almost 3 years now and it is has been perfect since then - no issues whatsoever.
I am mainly changing for a bigger screen as I grow tired of watching videos and clips on a 5.7" screen.
That's why I am here to ask for your opinion regarding this matter.
The Mate 8 seems like a natural upgrade as it is quite good - yet not as expensive as the note 5.
Also I'd be happy to get rid of TouchWizz and still have an SDcard slot - pity about the irreplaceable battery though.
I might also miss the stylus and the 4K recording as well, but what can you do.
BUUUT..I feel like the 6 inch mate 8 won't be of any help regarding my request for a bigger screen. These 0.3" might not distinguishable in my opinion.
So I am currently thinking about the 7" X2 and the 8" M2 tablet as they can make calls, have a bigger screen and fingerprint sensors - all the things I want in my new phone.
Unable to make a decision but atleast I know the following:
Mate 8 - flagship and would be the best all-around upgrade for the Note 3
X2 compromise between bigger screen and specs - but realistically the specs aren't way higher than my 3 year old Note 3
M2 going all the way to the biggest phone I could carry in my pockets(very important!) but the specs are still similar to the X2 and the note 3 - also more a tablet than a phablet - not a great camera etc..
What do you guys think?
Should I go with the logical upgrade or go for the main thing that bothers me and on which I put a great weight in all of this - the display size.
Note 3 had Quadcore,Mediapad X2/M2 Octacore,no Difference?
X2 Battery is great,Display on time over 11 Hours
I myself came from a Note 2 I think the X2 is the sweet spot between a tab and a phone, goes into my back pocket without any problem, its great for watching movies, browsing, etc. ,besides the camera isn't that bad either, it is also very fast, coming from TouchWiz you will appreciate it even more.

Probably. Don't forget the quad core Snapdragon 800 was more powerful than the note 3 version that came with the 8 core eyonix (n900).
About the battery - i really think it is one of the most prized things in the X2 or the M2....or even the Mate 8. But doesn't it bother you that 3,4 or maybe even 2 year later you might find the battery dead and there is no way to replace it? It is a frightening thought for me, but I still hope for the best in case I get a non-replaceable-battery-phone

That's what I am hoping for to be honest - probably not a good idea though to have it in my back pocket as I might sit on it or it might get easily stolen - just my opinion.
Yea i hate touchwiz as well
My nexus 5 just broke and I need a new phone asap.
Was contemplating b/w NOTE 5 and S7.
I realize that the S7 is superior in almost every way, including performance and battery life, but I personally like the bigger screen of the note 5, the s-pen and the overall aesthetics of it much better than the s7. Now, I don't know if I'll be using the pen very much, but it's one of those things that I might start doing if I have it. I definitely like styluses and personally use a windows surface myself. However, the NOTE 5 is a year old and the S7 just feels like the smarter/logical choice.
I was wondering if anyone who has upgraded from NOTE5 to s7 or has used both could provide some insight?
I personally don't care much for the expandable storage on the S7; I know some people are religious about removable battery and extra storage. So, this is not a big enough difference to decipher the two. I need to make a decision by the end of the day, so I'd appreciate some input.
Whatever I do buy, I plan to stick it for the next 3 years. My most important priorities are: battery life, multi-tasking capacity, and overall functionality/productivyt. Right now, both of these phones are so comparable, I simply can't make a decision. Note 5 is more attractive to me, but the S7 is functionally superior.
FYI...I need to get a phone ASAP, so I can't wait for the NOTE 6.
Thoughts?
for productivity i believe Note 5 Definitely has the big advantages for you, S7 superior in term of hardware specs, but that doesnt mean Note 5 rendered useless, i still thought that Note 5 still good to go for another 3 years, I'm still using my Note 3 and it still able to fullfill my productivity needs
hope that helps
Cheers~

Coming from the note 3 I had to make the same decision. Went with the S7 edge. The edge was annoying to me so I returned it for the regular s7. I was really concerned that the S7 smaller screen would bother me, I was wrong. I now feel like the S7 screen size is perfect. When I pickup my wife's note 3 I feel like I'm holding a piece of toast haha.
I don't miss the stylus at all and the s7 is lightning fast. It would be a dream phone if it was possible to root the Verizon variants. The only downside to me is that it's way easier to type on the note.
S7 gets my vote
