[Q] Weird hissing buzzing noise on HD call audio ear speaker when other person talks - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S6

Slight hissing / buzzing noise in the ear speaker when other person talks when HD call audio is enabled. This only happens on the ear speaker when HD call audio is enabled, and only when the other person talks.
If HD call audio is disabled then there is not hissing or buzzing.
There is no hissing / buzzing with HD call audio when using ear phones or speaker phone.
I looked on some other forums and a few people had the same issue. Any ideas what the cause of this is or if there is a fix?

I had to call Verizon and they did some updates on all our phones. Helped a lil but not much.

I noticed this too. However, I recently had to disable advanced calling due to terrible service and numerous dropped calls. Since turning it off, I haven't had any issues, but my battery shows cell standby at over 50%. Odd.

Im no expert at all, but the cell standby may be because of using the cellular network as opposed to the LTE network for VoLTE " HD voice". I have noticed a lot les drain since using HD. Just my 1.5 cents.

Im not on Verizon but have the exact same thing with my T-Mobile S7. Hissing with every word the other person says. When I turn off wifi calling and VOLTE which puts out a non HD call it is fine. Not sure what is causing it. I thought HD voice was suppose to be better?

Dont know if you solved this problem but I just had a similar one on Tmobile. When using wifi calling callers would get a high hissing sound kind of like a fax machine. When I had the wifi calling off, calls came in just fine. After trying everything, it ended up being one of the Themes I was using from the Samsung Theme store. As soon as I changed it back to the default theme, the problem disapeared.

Issue With Phone audio

Hey guys n gals, I have a slight issue here with my mom's Inspire 4g.
The sound seems to quit when ever a call is received or made, unless a headset is attached or its on Speakerphone. What I mean is that the personon the other end cannot hear us, but we can hear them. Sometimes we can't hear them either and the other person only hears them self talking.
It works perfectly during a call with Bluetooth, Wired Headset and speakerphone.
Does this sound like a software bug or a hardware defect?
Its the original stock Rom from ATT and is not rooted.

Call HTC and have them swap the phone.

To Those That Have Gotten The New Tmobile OTA....

...has the low outgoing mic issue and low incoming sound issue during WIFI Calling been addressed?
Sounds like the volume of the speakerphone has been slightly raised on calls made through Wifi, though it's still not on par with regular GSM calls. I don't know why this is a difficult thing to do..
People have said media volume was also improved slightly. Not sure whether I hear a difference. The update does make the software better overall.

Aittle more information would be nice. Are you stock or rooted, running any custom ROMs, firmware version, Android version? Is it just like an echo you're hearing, because that could be a few possibilities. The noise cancellation is for your end of the phone call to the recipient's, not the other way around.
Repair procedure #1: Hit/throw it
Worked perfectly on the last phone i had that did that. Got a brand new one from it.

[Q] In call speaker broken

So my cousin bought this phone yesterday and during his first phone call noticed that he could only hear the other end of the call thru headphones or speaker. Verizon replaced it without question and there was no issue there. Was just wondering if anybody else got a defective device.

My first replacement had a bad ear piece. Cracking when turned up during a call.
My volume is low on earpiece during calls. I can't hear much unless I am in a quiet room. In my car with road noise (New B'Mer not very loud) I can hardly here other party

If you're talking about using ur phone up to your ear, speaker by front camera, I would say replace it! Mine is very loud on full volume, honestly the loudest cell phone speaker I've ever had for the regular speaker, not talking about speaker phone here.

Call quality

When you call granny, does she keep saying "Huh?! Wut?!" or does the conversation flow pretty well? Rate this thread to express how you feel about the Huawei Nexus 6P's call quality. A higher rating indicates that calls are clear and crisp, and that regardless of background noise, you can hear the other party clearly (and with ample volume) and they can hear you.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
Call quality is just fine. However I have a bug where if I start a call on speaker then switch to handset, the mic is muted. Gah!
When you hang up while you were on speaker, do you still here that annoying peep !!!!!!

Call quality is excellent but on T-mobile, I randomly lose LTE data and only get it back by rebooting the phone. Not cool.
2 Verizon phones here, many callers complaining of the call sounding "muffled" on their end....have found other reports online of the same issue. Pretty good on my end, but apparently not so great on the receiving end.
Google Fi and have had no issues with call quality. Though today I had issues with my proximity sensor not detecting right during a call.
Did the conference call to compare nexus 6 with the 6p. Definitely muffled sound. The other party always complain. So returning this unit, getting another one tomorrow. On t-mobile network.
On Verizon, i get a noticable buzz as my contact is talking and my volume is Medium high or above. on headset. Has anyone else experienced this?
Sounds like mixed results so far. For those that say it's muffled, what are you comparing the call quality to?

With HD calls on T-Mobile I hear static behind every sound. Besides that everything is fine and calls sound great

Mine almost sounds like the speaker is blown out during calls but not when music is played or anything. Also, if I connect Bluetooth during calls or a device other than the phone speaker, the static goes away :-/
I'm getting a very clean call quality on Google Fi. It's much louder on both ends compared to my old 2013 Moto X on Verizon.
As with previous Nexii, the proximity sensor doesn't work properly. Sometimes when ending a call, I take the phone away from my face and notice the notification shade pulled down, because the proximity sensor didn't activate and turn the screen off soon enough.
Also slightly muffled on most calls for verizon.. Only time it's not may be when it's on HD calling with someone who has it..

I posted a fix for this over on reddit. Apparently what is happening is the noise cancellation is interpreting your voice as noise and is attempting to cancel it resulting in a muffled sound. Turning off in call noise cancellation seems to solve the problem. To do this you need to edit your build.prop. The easiest way is to download a build.prop editor. Open it up, locate persist.audio.fluence.voicecall, and change it to false. Save and reboot. Should solve the muffled sounding voice problem.

Thanks, I know that's the fix....it just blows that root is required (I could easily do it to mine but my wife has no desire to let me root hers). After experimenting, the easiest "fix" I've found is to just make sure the bottom speaker is more in line with your mouth and that you don't let the phone "slouch" more vertically (resulting in the bottom speaker being closer to your shoulder).
I am on T-mobile in the US... I was getting comments like speak up.. Sound like you are in a tunnel.. It turns out that covering the noise cancelling mic on the back with your shoulder or a pillow etc causes a problem..
It seems like you have to have root to turn off that feature.
But most of the time calls are clear...
I'm switching from my Nexus 6 and so far my reception is better, and my wife says that she can hear me much better than on my old phone. I am using project Fi

If you use Bluetooth or actually hold your phone, then you will be fine. It seems that the problems appear when you try to use the phone without hands by placing it on your shoulder and covering the rear noise cancelling mic.
