Help CyanogenMod Nightly + root - Xperia Z3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all, please excuse me I'm a noob and I have a BIG problem.
I have the latest CyanogenMod installed. But for some reason I have not been able to root my Z3. I powered on the phone and pressed volume and got into CyanogenMod Recovery. But then I don't know what to do. I need to root my phone and I want to use some other ROM than CyanogenMod. Tried UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.16 in recovery mode and also gieroot when the phone is on. But nothing works. Maybe I have done something wrong?
Please, any help will be much appriciated.

If you are running cyanogenmod then you are rooted.
Just enable root in the options/settings

To enable root access you have to activate the Developer Menu by touching 7 times on the Build Number in Settings → About Phone/Tablet.

Yes I know, but that option isn't available since I was running CyanogenMod. But no worries I reverted back to stock rom. So please close this thread.

But since you have your phone unlocked, you can do many things. Which rom do you have?

Boot into recovery. Then go to Mounts and Storage, and mount USB storage. Connect your phone to your computer and your SDcard contents should show.
Transfer the latest CM10 nightly to your SDcard. Then flash it and hopefully all should be fine.

[Q] Install files in recovery mode without volume buttons?

Hello, thanks in advance for any suggestion you may have.
I bought a stupid Logicom TAB752 tablet (don't do that) and I'm trying to root it (just to install Google Play which is not there).
I would try the Crystal Root (it seems to be an aml8726-mx or similar platform, with JB 4.1.1) but the tablet has no volume buttons!
So I'm not able to navigate the menu to apply the zip file, within the recovery mode.
Any suggestion?
I was not able to find a clear solution already available in the forum. Someone is suggesting to install CWM recovery, but I understood I would need root access to install it?
Any other possibility to get root access on this kind of (chinese) tablet?
Thanks again

Thanks a lot for the suggestion!
After trying many many root procedures without any success, I've been now able to install "su.apk" by Cydia Impactor
The Google Play is not working yet (closes immediately after opening) but I think I can still try something (I understood I should try a fab reset and reinstall of all the Google apps from gapps....)
Hi
Would you have any solution for this tablet that goes straight to the recovery?
It seems to have root access though when I type adb shell I get uid=0<root> gid=0<root>

Ok try this:
- enable usb debugging in developer options
- connect tablet with usb to your computer and root it with Cydia Impactor
- you will have root access then
- then try to go to recovery with Cydia Impactor OR with Quick Boot or Rebooter app.
you probably are able to go to recovery with one of those 3 apps.
if you want to push a rom to your tablet just use windows explorer / winscp or just do it with ADB.

Like I mentioned in the first post the tablet goes directly to the recovery, there is no android ROM installed obviously.
I could try cydia again but I don't know what ROM I can flash on this tablet...EDIT: or even if it's possible to flash one given the few options

Can't get root on cm13 ROM

I am using sultanxda cm13 ROM but can't get root where the ROM is already rooted I also tried to flash SuperSU-v2.46 but after flashing I stuck in bootloops so please could some one help me I will be very thankfull to them
Did you read the entire first post of Sultan's thread? It specifically says to NOT flash SuperSU. To get root, you need to enable Developer Options by tapping on "build number" 5 times in "about phone". Then back in setting, you will now have "Developer Options" menu. Open that and scroll down to "root access" and enable for "apps and adb". profit

You all should unerstand that your original ROM does NOT have this option. The post is about sultanxda's custom cm13 based rom.

I am on sultanxda's custom cm13 rom, but after enabling developer options, cannot find root access in there. When I search for it in the settings or in dev options, I see it as a result but when I select that, it opens up the developer options itself. I'm using one plus x, successfully rooted about 3 days ago and flashed this rom.

UPDATED THREAD
Hey, guys. So here it is:
ROOT + TWRP
Smart Ultra 7 ONLY !
NEW TWRP VERSION: 3.1-0
_____________________________________________________
HOW TO ROOT ? :
This nethod will break OTA, so for update you must use SUGAR.
1) Download TWRP and SPFT from my PAGE and place it on desktop.
2) Download these files and put them on your SD CARD: SuperSU_1 and SuperSU_2
3) Turn off your phone and run SP FLASH TOOL.
3) When the SP FLASH TOOL starts, select MT6755 scatter file and MTK_AllinOne_DA.bin file (they are in SPFT folder)
4) Select ONLY recovery and load the TWRP_3.X.X file. (X.X means a version of TWRP)
5) Press download.
6) Connect your powered off phone to PC via USB cable.
7) After flashing the TWRP, hold VOLUME UP + POWER to boot into TWRP.
8) In TWRP press "INSTALL" and flash the boot patch - SUPERSU_1 and then flash root - SUPERSU_2.
9) Reboot and enjoy.
KingRoot Fidelity
Is it safe to root with KingRoot? Have been trying to figure out the best way root this phone for two weeks now, and trying to avoid KingRoot all this time.
Can you replace the KingRoot Binaries and Root Management Tools with the SuperSU ones?
Will Xposed Framework work on this phone? Really want AdAway, Greenify and Xposed Tweaks on the Vodafone Smart Ultra 7.
Thanks!
You can replace kingroot with supersu thanks to this app:
http://download.dlapk.org/?apkid=darkslide.com.supersume&ver=6.7&server=snah
I did not try the xposed yet.
But it should work properly.
Thanks for the reply,
I still feel skeptical about KingRoot, and there are reports that indicate that replacing KingRoot with SuperSU isn't that easy either, KingRoot seems to completely deny root once altered or removed, which makes it look even more shady, I really want root on this phone, there are tweaks I would love to do such as dpi change, remove the vodafone label on the statusbar and more, but I don't know if I'm willing to use KingRoot in the process. I'm used to SuperSU and Xposed Framework working flawlessly, so I'm really 'scared' on this one.
Thanks

I guess we'll have to wait for further development on the phone, I won't put my phone trough KingRoot, and you even reported that it isn't working for you... oh well.
Really wanted root on this phone, lets hope someone actually picks it up just as they did with the previous model (Smart Prime 6 / Smart Ultra 6).

Don't give up just yet, I do understand your desperation, as I feel almost the same as you, but you'll see someone will find a way, at least I hope...
This phone its awesome for its price point, and would be absolutely marvelous with all the tweaks and adjustments root brings to the table.
Who knows, maybe we'll have a full developed phone (custom ROMs, root, recovery, all of that good stuff), we can only wish someone works on it... :highfive:

Been trying since yesterday to root with KingRoot, using different versions even.

Where the problem could be?
I got my phone rooted after the second attempt, because I forgot to turn on USB debugging.

Everything matches the about phone screen you've sent,
I don't really know what can be different or wrong, but I've done everything right, I even used USB debugging to change my phone's DPI trough Android SDK...
I'm really confused, should I keep trying?

I didn't, the phone came as it is out of the box, no software updates were made...
I guess we've found the issue, if the software versions don't match, that means everyone with yours (120FKN1) can root with KingRoot, and everyone with mine (060FFN1) can't...
I've got an issue in my hands I see...

[Completed] cyanogenmod Galaxy s4 unflash

Hello,
I have not been able to find a clear answer to this anywhere.
Recently decided to try a new cyanogenmod on my s4 tmobile. I already had the phone rooted so I used CWM to flash the phone. Everything worked fine except CM13 didn't leave CWM and I don't have access to adroid apps so I can't download it. Recovery mode just brings me to a mode that Ive researched and am supposed to use ODIN with.
Is there anyway to flash a different rom onto my phone without odin? I only have a mac and probably wont have access to a PC for a good while.
Thanks,
Travis

Sure!
I think my phone was still rooted at this point.
So I used the stock browser in Cynogenmod to download CWM apk file straight to the phone.
I enabled usb debugging mode by going to settings/about device and pressing a bunch of times on build number, then back under settings developer options enabled usb debugging.
Found the CWM apk file under my downloads, clicked on it to install.
Once I had CWM, I opened it and got into recovery mode from there, then flashed to a different ROM from my SD card (Insane Hybrid V6, on the XDA forum, i like it)
