{SOLVED} Lost root after flashing CM12.1 - Galaxy Tab 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello guys, I'm new to this forum but not to Android. I'm familiar with Samsung devices coming from a S3 mini. So I was wanting to root my Galaxy tab 2 7" (GT-P3110) but don't have access to a computer currently. So I got to digging and found a Chinese app called "Root Master" which worked for the device. I was on stock and it was successful. After doing so I flashed CM12.1 and gapps to then find I lost my custom recovery and root. I tried rooting it again with the application but with no success. Any suggestions/help would be much appreciated.

Oh boy... Does Cm 12 boot? If so, go into developer settings and set root access to 'Apps & ADB' and turn off 'Update CM Recovery when ROM updates'.
jrc2

Yeah, everything runs completely fine. I just lost root and recovery. I'll give it a go. Thanks.

So is everything working for you now? You can get recovery again by flashing the latest TWRP from @Android-Andi's recovery thread through Odin or Heimdall.
Have a great day!

Yeah, everything is fine and TWRP was still installed so need to do anything else.

Root gone wrong SGT 2 7.0

Hello guys,
I just got my Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 and wanted to mess around with it and root it. I thought I did everything correctly - it won't let me post the site I used .
However, now I am in a pickle. Whenever I start my SGT, it gets to the Samsung loading screen, does the intro tune, and then just starts all over again. I tried doing a hard reset and I tried wiping all of the cache/saved files/etc. but nothing seems to work. I am at a loss as to what I can do. Has anyone seen this before or is there a way around it? Is there anything I can do?
Much Appreciated,
Sam

I am not entirely too sure, to be honest - I wish it would be let me post the site I used haha.
I used the below ClockworkMod Recovery:
imnuts’ CWM Recovery image
I downloaded the developer nycbjr’s rooting package - cwm-root-gtab2.zip
Does that answer your question?
Kinda. Did you just want root or a custom firmware as well? I am am running the CM9 and I'm very pleased with it. :good: Not as flashy as the stock but it is a performer.

Honestly, I am not even 100% sure why I did it. I was browsing the Android Market and got some apps I liked. The issue arose when I tried using them it requested that I have root powers - I wasn't really trying to modify the os or anything like but was just looking to get root powers. If I hook up my phone to my laptop and put it into Recovery Mode and run Odin, can I PDA the CM9? Do you think that would help? Is there anyway to reset it through Odin? When I do a hard reset, literally nothing changes.
Please post the link to the root method you used. I have a hunch you tried to flash a zip for the gtab 10.1.

Yea, I can't post links in the forum yet, so... . The link above(broken up one), the android authority one, is where I found the root guide.
Can you access CWM recovery? BTW, you can post links if you uncheck "automatically parse links". Also, you don't have to email me, PM me, AND post here-- one of those will suffice.

I can access CWM recovery. However, none of the options in there seem to really do anything.
Edit: Yea, my apologies on that. I was trying to e-mail you the link and I didn't get a sent confirmation and it said I had nothing in my sent messages so I tried PMing you and the same thing happened. I'll stick to the forums so everyone can see this as it may help people, I just didn't know there was a way around the link . My bad.
It's fine. Back to work, what you call a soft bricked tab is what I call an opportunity to flash a new ROM. I'm a tab 10.1 guy so I can't recommend a specific ROM. But I've heard good things about Tab2Lite and CM9.
Sounds exactly like this problem.

I'm glad to hear there is a chance my birthday day present won't become a paper weight. I am still a little new to this stuff so I wanna make sure I am on the same page as you. The ROM that I used was cwm-root-gtab2, correct? I had to download a bunch of files and I am trying to make sense out of what is what. Now, when you said I need to get a new ROM, would that consist of me putting a new ROM on the external SD and then running that?

Could one of you clear one thing up for me. I am going to try and use Odin again but with a different espresso file as I think that was the problem. I am just unsure which espresso file to use, how do I tell which one I need.

Hey guys, I want to thank both of you for your help! I was able to reset my tab and it now works. It looks like I used the wrong espresso file . If possible, I would still love for an explanation of my above question - just so I know for the future. But other than that, thank you for both!

Basically if your tab is on the latest firmware image, you need the latest espresso file. I'm guessing that you were on 4.0.4 and the espresso file you first flashed was for 4.0.3. That happened to myself and a few other people as it's not really clear what you need in those guides!

[Q] Samsung galaxy tab 2 10.1 p5110 possibly bricked

Hi everyone, yesterday I tried to change my tablet's rom from android 4.1 to kitkat 4.4.4 using TWRP, after install TWRP and reboot it, the tablet stopped work. I can't turn it on and my pc doesn't recognise it. I removed the battery to turn it off and to be sure that wasn't the problem but with no solution. Anybody has a solution?. Thanks

Did you flash a ROM for a different device? It sounds like it is definitely bricked. Probably, your only choices are jtag or a new tablet. JTag for the 10.1 inch tab is $50 from mobiletechvideos.com but they are currently working on a lot of devices and not accepting new orders for now.

930A ATT S7 Snapdragon Xposed framework

Hey guys, so I just found out about this site and am a super noob but managed to Root my ATT S7 last night. I have been trying to install the Xposed framework but it looks like I cant get a custom recovery program onto my S7. Does anyone know how to get TWRP or CWM or any custom recovery onto the 930A? Or for that matter, Xposed install without a custom recovery?

Sure, I'll start from the beginning in case any other new people are wondering.
Basically, back up your files and restore your phone to factory so the root goes smoother.
Then proceed to this thread for the root. Oh yeah, install adb if you don't have it. They dont mention it and assume you know what it is, which noobs like me don't.
After a clean root, install Flashfire (you may need to disable samsung updates and reset the phones clock back to 2012 or something if Flashfire doesn't want to start). I used 0.31, maybe the newest will work? Easy to find in google.
On page 8 of the Root thread, there is a dropbox link to the Xposed apk and zip (Here). Move them to your phone and install the apk, then use Flashfire to boot the zip.
I think that's pretty much it, Xposed should be running after the Flashfire reboot (which can take a long time as it will Optimize apps).
psouza4 has an awesome thread on what to do after Root and Xposed to make the phone run smoother.
If you do something wrong and absolutely can't fix it, see here for re-flashing back to stock.
Hope this helps someone, took me about 2 days to search all of this out. The AT&T S7 is such a pain in the ass with it's locked bootloader, but this place is > AT&T!

Don't root.
I learnt...cost me £290 to have a brand new board!!
Interesting, but not very constructive matthew33...
I haven't tried to root yet. , have other phones with root that are still being used, I have a few numbers...
You would've needed to have gone into developer settings to enable OEM unlock.
After flashing have you wiped your data? This could be the problem.
Not sure if it's the same with the S8/S8+ but TWRP needed to remove encryption or no rom would work on my 1+5.
Sorry if these don't help but as I aid, not rooting just yet... Still learning about my new toys...

TWRP is custom recovery. It's still in beta.
As far as I know, there are no custom roms. 8.1 is too new and they are still working on things.
Root with Magisk. Plenty of how to threads.

TWRP actually just came out of beta with 12/12 Walleye(12/14 Taimen) build, hopefully there will be some custom roms soon... You can use the Skipsoft Android toolkit to root, unlock, flash twrp etc. Or do it manually following guides here on XDA under development section https://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel-2/development, ADB has been updated so make sure to have the latest platform tools.
Currently theres no custom ROMs at all for Pixel 2.
TWRP is a recovery.
Rooting is pretty straight-forward I studied these 2 articles/thread:
http://highonandroid.com/android-smartphones/how-to-root-pixel-2-or-pixel-2-xl-easiest-method/
https://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel-2/how-to/guide-unlock-flash-root-pixel-2-walleye-t3702417
The kind of confusing part is when you want to change custom kernels and update TWRP.
As the recovery, kernel and root stuff all play around in the same partition now.
Read around the forum, since you got experience you will figure it out.

So rooting your Pixel 2 will invariably trigger this error message on boot, for any user?
Are there other undesirable side effects to rooting your Pixel 2 at the moment?
Thanks
