screen unresponsive due to heat? - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Today I was walking along the beach, 28 degrees, had the phone in the trouser's back pocket, got a phone call, tried to answer but screen was crazy and unresponsive. When I turned screen off and on, could not even swipe to unlock as the lock screen was flickering and would not respond to my touches. Had to force turn off.
Do you believe it was due to the heat?

Maybe now you've got this screen issue that many Oneplus One users talking about since a few days. Or it can be due to heat if your phone was very very hot (proccessor overheating -> system unresponsive -> need cold & reboot)

Was not using the phone, by heat I mean outside temp

Yep, but outside temp can up your phone's temp, and the processor too without doing anything. And if your phone gets too hot, it may stop responding very well

Ok... Weird... Never happened with other phones, even on the beach under the August sun

Same here..since a few days the swiping feels sticky and screen is unresponsive to touch to the point that its almost impossible to use the phone.

Yes it's surely due to the heat, i've noticed in these days that in Italy temperatues are growing up.
Especially when you are in a bad covered network area the phone heat up and become unresponsive...you can follow the thread also on the official forum, i already asked for OPO tech support and informed Paypal, if they don't resolve i will ask money refund.

I bought The phone from a guy Who bought the phone from a shop whose owner bought the phone from internet I guess, I do have original invoice, but doubt warranty will somehow apply.
Plus, cannot stay with no phone, so I'd better trade it with an LG G3

Same thing happens to me here in germany it was the first day with 28 crad and typing was horrible.

My phone gets hot at times but the screen works just fine for me. Phone temp goes to 40 or more degrees Celsius

Phone keeps turning itself off. Has anyone else experienced this?

I lock my phone and about 10 mins later I go to unlock it and the phone powers up meaning that it has been turned off. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the charge of the battery but it keeps doing this. The other week the phone wouldn't respond for about 5 hours I would touch it and the touch screen was completely dead. I locked the phone and then the screen went black and the touch buttons at the bottom lit up and that was it the phone crashed so I needed to restart it and it just wouldn't work. 5 hours later when I woke up it responded and Bare in mind I ran about 5 ruus to get the phone back to stock so it wasn't a software problem. So has anyone else experienced one of these problems. The random shutdown is my issue at the moment. I'm considering returning it for repair because isn't it true that htc have a 2 year warranty in the uk?
Sounds daft but I'd put a piece of folded paper on top of the battery to ensure it has perfect contact and isn't able to move at all.....I have heard of others who have experienced this issue.
I would also see if you could get another battery for a short time and try that just to rule out that it is an issue with the battery.

Doesn't sound daft it's a great Idea. I have blu-tack on the slide off cover at the bottom to keep it from jiggling as one of the plastic clips broke. I will probably test another battery because they aren't exactly expensive. Do you know anything about HTC's warranty int he uk ben_pyett? Thanks for the help

I have heard multiple users that they simply rang HTC up, complained that battery didn't work and got a new one sent out.....so try that....and attempt if possible to hang on to old one, as if it turns out to be device, you get a free battery
Same issue for me, it drove me nuts. Turned out to be a faulty battery when sent off to HTC/Vodafone for repair. They replaced it so I wonder if it's a known issue.

This.
My phone used to shut down randomly and I searched and found out that it is due to the bad design of battery placement in this phone. All I had to do was put a small piece of paper and it has never shutdown till then.
I'm definitely going to try this, I've been getting lots of resets and I'm relieved it's not a rom issue
edit: how many times did you guys fold the paper over?

i had issues with my phone turning off too, had it slightly wet at one point so i took it to a phone repair joint, they replaced a few things charged me and it had the same problems afterwards, a test battery proved it was the bloody battery all along!
the tech there let me know our batteries have a soft edge that when pushed up hard against the battery slot it slightly deforms, seems like a bad design if you look at the battery up close you can see one where the edges get pushed in a bit, (well on mine anyway) the test battery i borrowed didn't have the edges pushed in.
Had this problem too. Paper did the trick.

Nexus 5 screen died today + dangerously hot lower screen

Went to unlock my phone this morning off the charger and the screen is totally dead. Couldn't unlock or do anything to it or even see what was going on, called Google and ordered a replacement ASAP.
Went through the not fun task of doing a nandroid backup without seeing what was on the screen and doing some trickery with screenshots then backing up my entire SD card.
However, here's the strange and potentially dangerous thing that I noticed later when I got home this evening. I went to look at the phone and go to a fastboot flash with the factory images and went to touch the bottom of the screen. When I went to do so, to the little bit of the left of the LED light was a SUPER hot portion of the phone. I almost burnt my finger it was so hot.
Not sure what to do about the issue, I feel like if I just call the support line they won't actually take in my concern legitimately. Any suggestions?
thats something quite strange
let us know what google says about RMA and this issue
Agree, maybe it's just your phone, maybe it's all the batch. Which batch/model do you have?

On my Transformer Infinity, sometimes the screen won't turn on at all. On a few occasions, if I press Power enough times, I get a glimpse of a message saying the Launcher process has stopped, but then my touchscreen doesn't register any input. The tablet is also sometimes running quite hot at those times. The only way I know to recover from this is press the Power button long enough to force a reboot, then everything is normal. Could this be what's happening? Do you know if the phone is still running under the black screen? Have you tried forcing a reboot, and did it work?
As for the hot phone, I've noticed my N5 does get a bit warm when I'm using it intensively (4G, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS and screen on all at the same time and in use) but not enough to burn me. Could be hard to tell which component is heating up like that since I think it could be the screen backlight, SoC or battery... Do let us know if you find out more.

I had called them and reported the screen totally dead with lines streaking vertically and got a new replacement ordered. It wasn't until late last night when I got back and had the screen on in this dead mode that the bottom was extremely hot. I'll have to call them back and let them know

Yeah, no its definitely dead. There were streaked lines across it, rebooted it multiple times. I ended up going into the bootloader and recovery via adb/fastboot and all that jazz. It eventually just would not work now.
In regards to the hot part I definitely think it was the lower part of the screen. It was quite literally half an inch away from the LED to the left. Was super super hot then once I shut the defective screen off (I could tell by the backlit light or whatever) it wasn't hot anymore after a minute or so.
Is it black/white? 16 or 32? When did you get it?

32gb black version. I ordered it immediately when they announced it that day.
mine gets really warm when i'm doing a TWRP backup then it goes into bootloop after and wont cool down. i have to force it to power off from recovery and let it cool, but i've always seen it happen. i wonder if yours was attempting to boot over and over for hours and cooked itself.....? i have a launch day black 32gb too, running Cataclysm with Franco at the moment but it was doing it on rooted stock with stock kernel
I had to send my 19 day old 32Gb Red Nexus 5 in to LG for the same reason. I was using the phone and all of the sudden had vertical lines and the bottom of the screen got burn your fingers hot. Waiting to see what LG does with my phone. The only thin I can figure is the synaptics chip which controls the screen is bad. Its the only thing in that area that could get that hot. I also noticed when I first got my phone the glass in the same area looked like it had a slight wave in it. Didn't think anything of it at the time. I'll let you know how it goes.
Is RMA/replacement applicable for Rooted and unlocked devices?
I don't believe its an issue with developer phones as long as the issue wasn't caused by something you did like brick it by flashing a wrong radio or something like that. It has to be a manufacture defect to get it fixed for free.

My device issue is related to power button. there is no software issue.
The power button is rattling since from the purchase of the device.
Hope my device gets repaired.
Like I said. Hardware issues that are production faults should be covered.

[Q] Screen goes partially blank

Hey, so I have this weird problem with my G Flex 2.
I got it around 40 days ago from U.S. Cellular.
I have run into this problem about three times now, and from what I can remember it always happens when I have music playing. I tap the screen on to the lock screen then let it go to sleep or turn it off myself. When I wake it back up the screen is all black except for a few millimeters on the top, where I can see some display.(*note, this doesn't happen every time)
I am able to scroll through the display but no pop up menus. Since the battery is sealed off in the back of the phone I can't use that fix, holding the power button only brings up the menu option to turn off the screen which doesn't do me much good since I can't use the screen.
If I wait for 5 minutes or so the phone will right itself, but I don't want this to be a persisting problem. I'm not sure if this problem is tied to the music playing, it hasn't happened when it isn't playing, but I play music on my phone quite often. (note* I am playing the music from my phone, not streaming)
If you need more info I'll do my best to provide it. This is all I can think of right now.
Honestly, I don't expect anyone to have a fix yet since the phone is fairly recent and not as popular. I tried looking under G3 forums since the UI is pretty much identical, but I didn't find anything.
Sorry, my post is a little wordy.
I'd appreciate any help anyone can provide. Thanks
Yes, this has happened to me twice recently too. Once the screen was completely black except for a bright white line at the very bottom, but the phone was still responsive behind the dead screen. The other time there was a distorted/ghosty notification bar showing at the top but nothing else (like what you reported). Then the problem would resolve completely and spontaneously after resuming from sleep a few times. I have the Korean model (F510S) which was a gift so I'm stuck with it - no returns or warranty available.
bonebeatz1234 also posted about a similar problem. Seems like a hardware fault?
The replacement phone screen was fine i had a different issue of over heating and had to return it . I opted to get another device the note 4. Didn't wanna go that route bit had no choice i loved the design and ui of the flex 2. I wished lg would of just ditched the 810
~~~
Hi, I encountered same problem here.
Is anyone able to send me a screen shot or a video of this problem.
As I need to use this to prove the situation and claim warranty from the seller, however I didn't take a photo or something when the problem happened to me.
please sent to [email protected] if you have the photo or video and many thanks~
Just had this problem also had a g flex 2 for about 21 days now and it happened to me after a restart in the car with a pinkish line at the top and the phone was completely responsive even though the screen was blank
I think it might have to do with heat cause I held it by the ac vent while I was reading this board on my nexus and when I looked back at the phone it was working perfectly
But I swear during my time with the phone it heated up way more than this time and this time the phone wasn't even hot
I reset the phone like 3 times before I held it to the vent and it didn't help at all
Using the att variant with android 5.1.1
Have the same problem every now and then, found a recommendation on another website and in the instruction manual to reset the phone by holding down the power button and volume down button for about 10 seconds or to turn it off by holding down the same buttons for 20 seconds. I find what works better though is to just leave the phone alone and it corrects itself within about 5 minutes.
Having this same problem. Happens once every couple of weeks. Any updates on this?
I think that this is a heat problem....everytime i left my phone in the sun, it show me this strange error.
I'm not convinced its a heat issue. I looked at my battery chart the last time it happened and it was barely over 90 deg. It seems it happens to me when it is charging PLUS doing something like streaming music or GPS is on. I need to start taking notes. I should have done that before.
this have happened to twice too. weird anomaly.
Having the same random issue. Today it happened and reboot would not fix (it usually does) finally after about 30 minutes the screen came back to normal. I now disabled lock screen in case I need to get data off the phone from pc ? in the case that the issue becomes permanent.
although it's an old post, but worth to mention, that It can happen to all the LG Flex 2 models.
It is caused by a heat or inaccurate voltage. let me explain how it can happen:
heat - when you put the phone on the car's cradle under the car's front windows during a sunny day - it will happen.
voltage/heat - when you charge your phone and not using your original charger (eg chinese car chargers) - it will happen.
so what to do? I've noticed that putting the device over the cat's air conditioning , can reduce this to few minutes. also, if you can, mount your cradle over one of the air condition outlets and it will freeze your phone all the time
Touch screen issues when phone heats up
I have been using nilkin tempered glass since i bought my phone in december. The phone was running fine till recently. One day i was on a bike ride and was using my opo as gps navigator with a bike mount on my bike. I had used my phone for some 30 minutes as gps navigator.
After 30 minutes i took a break and removed the phone from the bike mount. I found my phone extremely hot. It must be around 70-80 degrees celcius range. ( my phone usually goes to 62-65 in cpu temp app while gaming or some heavy processes, so i know the phone was way hotter than usual by feeling). At that time the phone didnt show any touch sensitivity loss and i shut my phone down.
Since that day my phone is not same. Everytime i go into sun or outside or the phone remains in pocket for some time the phone gets warmer and i lose touch sensitivity. The phone doesnt unlock using swipes. Very difficult to type.
But as soon as the phone gets time to cool down or remains in AC for around 20 minutes it becomes like nothing happened. Its functions normally.
Today i removed my Nilkin tempered glass(its broke while removing so cant be put again). Now will be monitoring for few days to see if tempered glass was the culprit. If not i am going for warranty replacement.
This seems to be quite a common problem. It happens to me too - especially when I carry my OPO in my pocket.
Oneplus are aware of the problem and they almost had a fix (I think in the 15 and 16 of May CM12.1 nightly) but it drained the battery so it's been pulled for now. Hopefully they'll come back with a non-battery-draining fix soon.
See here for endless advice/comments/bickering.
I have the same problem too... Though the fix has been removed from the CM12s, some of the custom rom (Resurrection remix) has included without the battery drain bug. I tried it and works smoothly. If you are rooted and can't wait for the official fix, you can change the rom and try.
LG Stylo Phone screen about to die?
Recently when ive been on my LG stylo the screen on my phone will suddently get whiter within time, then eventually go back down to the regular colors. And before anyone tries to respond thinking i am a dumb ass, THIS IS NOT A BRIGHTNESS ISSUE!!!!!
I can not replicate when this happens as it happens randomly. But to further describe my problems, every once in a while my screen will get whiter (as if someone were to turn up the contrast on your tv [which is why this is not a brightness issue]) then a little while later it will return to normal. It almost looks like my screen is attempting to burn-in an image.
If anyone knows what is happening please tell me. I can not post any pics of this phenomenon unfortunately as i can only use the screenshot feature and as everyone that is here should know, screenshots wont show any problems.
Hello, I have an LG Stylo 2. I've had the same thing happen a few times during this winter. I would go and touch the screen and it would turn white. Later it never happened again. I thought the screen was going bad. I think I correlated it to static electricity. I twas cold and dry in the office. When I touched the screen some static discharge possibly charged the screen??? Is it happening often. First time it happened I took the battery out and let the phone rest for an hour. After puttiing back together it didn't do it again.
oh wow. I have had this issue numerous times on my stylo in the past month, and I have en had this issue before on my iPhone 5S... Considering LG makes the screens for the iPhone 5S, I wouldn't deny the fact that LG LCD's are weak under low temperatures. Literally eactly what you are describing has happened to me numerous times! I have even had to replace my 5S screen before because of this issue. My advice would be try to warm the phone up by putting it by a heater for a few minutes under your supervision, or wait it out, or maybe you can try to put it under your legs and see if that helps.
It us a know issue with the screen on all stylos best bet goto where you bought it and they should replace it
Yea, ive had the phone for 6 months, and bought it off of ebay, thats not an option.
But for anyone else that would be good advice, granted it happens within 30-90 days. Or have a contract with a carrier. (which i have neither)
