I used a mod ROM but I made a backup before doing that. The problem is that I use now CWM recovery (6.0.1.2) and I cannot restore the stock data. I get "Error while flashing boot image". I do not know what I am doing wrong
I go to restore from internal sdcard --> and I choose the restored backup
I have wiped all the data/cache & dalvik cash available. But still nothing. Does anyone know?
Did you use a different version of CWM recovery when you took the backup? If so it might have a different version of nandroid backup in it and be using a different backup format. If the CWM recovery is different, can't you put the original CWM recovery back on so the backup will restore with it?
Unfortunately I do not remember which recovery version it had but I am almost certain that it was the same version

An easy way to tell is to think about if you ever installed a new recovery. ROMs don't do that for you. ROM Manager has the ability to update your recovery image if you tell it to do so.
Your error is telling you that the recovery you have installed doesn't know how to handle the backed up boot.img. You could removed the boot.img from the backup and try restoring it again. Google it, if you don't know how to do that.
Does the MD5 check pass?
I just installed 4EXT Recovery, and it was able to restore my recent CWM recovery backups where CWM could not (>10,000 files bug). It appears that it doesn't support your device yet, but you never know.
Failing that, perhaps look at other alternatives. Maybe see if TWRP can restore CWM recovery backups, and if it supports your device.
Good luck.

Did you check MD5 before flashing? Could be a bad download.
Usually boot loop issues are due to left overs from your previous rom so,
If you're on CWM recovery , use this ORDER :
1.Reset user data/factory reset
2.Format System
3.Format Data
4.Format Cache
5.Format SD card (back up your important files first)..
Then flash the rom ... Don't wipe dalvik it's already in /data
This applies not just to CM10 , use this procedure to any rom flash or any nandroid restore ...

Can you get back to recovery to flash a new ROM?
I have flashed many ROMS recently to try them out and also had a similar issue with one or two of them.
On my Note 2 I hold power, home and volume up to cycle power and get back to recovery and simply flash a new ROM, presto...

Not sure what is going on but here is how I flash a ROM from recovery and so far so good.
Copy rom file to external sd card in phone.
Do a full factory wipe, cache and dalvik.
Install rom.
Install Gapps if necessary or desired.
Wipe cache and dalvik again.
Reboot
Note that some roms will give you a recommended list of what to wipe if doing a new install or upgrade of that rom, if such instructions exist its best to follow those instead but the above has worked for me for a while now.

That's what is advised to do before flashing a completely different ROM anyway by some. From recovery, flash the ROM again, and if the ROM is not corrupted (check md5 or whatever comes with it), you should be good to go.

Have patience,wait for 10-15 minutes.
First of all, you shouldn't have used Rom manager. It bricks our device
Read the guide in the top of general section and install a proper recovery from odin.
Maybe the zip you have downloaded is corrupted. So download it again and try.
Make sure you are on official gingerbread(2.3.x) and not froyo(2.2)
If none of this works, there is something seriously wrong with your device.
But don't worry, you can flash stock via odin and revert back to factory state.

Which customize ROM?
For customize ROM you need with ODIN instal Clockwork Mod Recovery (CWM).
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1339640
Now you can install custom ROM. Go in CWM and go on wipe data reset, wipe cashe partition in Advanced wipe dalvik cashe. Install ROM and again go on wipe data reset, wipe cashe partition and in Advanced, go on wipe dalvik cashe. Reboot phone. It need wait about 5 minutes for system up.

When u are flashing any custom rom over the stock rom for the 1st time then u *should* necessarily wipe /system otherwise you'll get hanged up forever on that android-text/boot-up screen.

Do this straight away:-
1. Flash Froyo 2.2.1(4 package) of ur country.
2. Then flash Gingerbread 2.3.6(one package) of ur country.
3. Then flash cwm via Odin.
4. Flash the custom rom thereafter.
Since it seems a bit complex issue, u need to try this to ensure zero errors.:sly: Btw u can try above steps in ur spare time.
As for me, I always try all methods that I know b4 concluding anything.
I succesfully added clockwork recovery, and installed the cyanogen mod 10.1 (4.2.2) to my phone, however when I click reboot, it gets stuck on the Samsung Logo
I then took the battery out and did a dalvic cache clear but the same issue occured... My install was succesfull, its just that it gets stuck on the Samsung Logo...
what have I done wrong?? Should I try install a different mod?? Or have I bricked my phone?? Or is there a foolproof way of installing a mod using Odin??
PS: (additional info)
I renamed the mod file before installing if that helps
I have no backup files
the only thing I can access on the phone atm is the Recovery Mode and Download Mode...
You would have backed up your previous rom..try fixing permissions....if not check cynogenmod is for your device or not.... If not download your device os reflash it by installing stock recovery.

I dont want to hijack this thread, but I have basically the same problem. I rooted my GT-I9300 phone and all was well, until I ran "NoBloat" to remove unwanted apps. Thereafter it runs up to the Samsung logo, then I get the following messages in succession: "Unfortunately messaging has stopped", "Unfortunately the process com.android has stopped", "smartcard service has failed" and "unfortunately the phone has stopped". I removed the battery, tried to flash the ROM again using the standard Samsung.tar file to restore to factory settings, but it made no difference. I am able to read the S3 files when linked to my Desktop and I can get it into download mode. I have run out of ideas and need help from the clever members.
If you get force closes fix permissions

Firstly, cwm doesn't work. Its garbage. I've semi bricked my phone well over 10 times trying to flash cm on it with cwm. Install goomanager and install TWRP to flash.
Secondly, once into TWRP recovery. Go to wipe>advance wipe> and select delvik cache, data, cahce, storage. Then go back to TWRP home and install the cm 10.1 and also the gapps package.
