All, as a complete noob I was wondering if someone has already come across this.
I have a CNM 10.1 tablet. I like this tablet but it does have some flaws. Firstly the USB does not charge the tablet. Does anyone know if this is a hardware or OS issue ? i.e. does the USB port have the correct pins for charging.
Secondly it has NAND memory. Now I have rooted my tablet and installed various apps to move applications to external memory but that does not do the job. I have also installed a directory binder which helps for some apps. However the google app's update always insists on installing / downloading to my very small /data partition. The design isn't the best.
What are my options here ? repartition ? any good applications that get around this NAND issue ?
Thanks in advance.

Dear XDA Community,
I would like to recovery a file i accidently deleted on my Transformer Internal Storage (Not Micro SD). When I plug the device to the PC it would mount the device using the MTP drivers so I do not get a regular USB drive but instead a "Portable Devices" A, hence I am not able to recovery any files as all the dat/file recovery program does not recognice the device as a disk drive.
If someone could be so kind and help me with some solution I would be extremely grateful. The problem would be sorted if either we can get the transformer to connect as a usb device with a regular drive, or a data/file recovery program does recognise the transformer and let me looks through the deleted files.
Kind regards,
Hamps*
Hello,
I am interested in this functionality too. Has anybody any information about how to achieve this?
Thank you very much.
Regars!
Afaik, it is not possible, because the file system used by the internal memory is not NTFS/FAT. (BTRFS, if I'm correct).
Sent from my customized HTC Desire using TTP
Thank you very much for your answer.
Enviado desde mi Transformer TF101 usando mis pulgares.
In the meantime did anyone find a solution for this?
You may try this android data recovery tool which works for android internal memory: android tablet data recovery
hope this helps.

If it's internal memory, I think it is not possible.

On my TF the internal memory has an ext4 fs. I have not any experience in recovering Files from an ext4 but google seems to know some recovery tools for that.
The way to go would be to by dumping the complete media partition via nvflash. I'm not sure what the nvflash commands would be. I think it's 1.5 years since I did a dump. Make an additional copy of it and try some ext4 recovery tools on the dump files.
Using a Linux system you can directly mount the dump as loop device. I recommend installing a Linux system on a PC first and getting familiar with those recovery tools. Trying to do that on a Windows system will be a pain in the ... or maybe even impossible.
It is a lot of work and often it is much easier to use a backup which we all do regularly *cough*.
i did an CWM update and m unable to install stuff from the SD card.
is it somehow possible to force a recovery install from the SD card ?i didn't find a way to do this without a cable....

i have a similar problem...................
i have stupidly installed aurora V3 screen patch .zip for aurora instead of the ADVANCE ii patch .zip and now i have a white screen which i cannot see anything. :-S
I also have NO mini usb port, i damaged it weeks ago when i dropped tablet off my desk while being plugged in.and the port had snapped pins so i totally removed the otg port and have been using extsd to install my stuff...but now i cannot see the screen to do anything.
What my question is is....CAN WE BOOT OR RESTORE FROM THE EXTSDcard with novo 7 advanced 2?
I have read on another site that the aurora, fire and some other ainol tablets can do this i read something about putting uboot and some other files into extsd and it will do a system format then install new os upon totally on its own without any user input.
This maybe done by a.script being activated from the extsd on startup but im not sure.
I even went and bought a miniHDMI lead to see if i could see the sxreen on my tv. But the firmware probably doesnt support hdmi output because my tv shows " no signal"
Like i said any help would be greatly appreciated.
Ps THIS SITE Kicks *arse!! :-o
[Q] Error "Couldn't install on USB storage or SD card" (usual solutions do not work)
Hi
I am using the LC-Power MIRA-1 10" Tablet
The newest version available (4.0.4) is installed, it is pre-rooted.
I did not install ANY custom mods and the system itself is not heavily modified.
It has 8GB internal memory, which is split into two "partitions"
internal memory ~1,25GB (probably / )
internal memory ~5,5GB (/sdcard and /mnt/sdcard)
my actual sd-card ist mounted under /mnt/extsd
I could not find any setting which lets me decide where to install apps.
now, when i try installing certain apps from google play i get the "Couldn't install on USB storage or SD Card" error. Now matter how many times I try. Not all apps are afflicted by this, only some (like "Labyrinth!” von OPENA)
I've googled and searched this forum.
I tried all fixes I could find:
- delete the hidden smdl2tmp1.asec file - file did not exist
- unmount the sd-card prior to installing the app - if I unmount my actual sd-card it will unmount /mnt/extsd and did not help
- deleting all google play data - did not help
- rebooting - did not help
I do know a bit about android and linux but not enought to find the problem by myself. why does this happen? where are the logs (and what are the names) where we could find some answers?
my guess right now is that it probably is a combination between my (i believe) strange partitioning/mounting of the available storage, the app itself and the higher probability of apps not working 100% if they are to be installed on sd-cards.
to be clear, i am not trying to install the app on the sdcard. infact, i dont even know where i could try to determine where the app is going to be installed to. but i have heard multiple times that installing apps on sd-cards can lead to trouble. I am uncertain if that is because real sd-cards may be removed now and then or if it is the mount-point that leads to trouble (/sdcard)
but ill be honest. i dont have a clue and am just guessing here!
any help and hints will be appreciated.

update:
the lc-power support was less than helpfull. short summary:
"can't guarantee all apps work, some do, some dont. probably their fault. cant help and oh btw. soon update to 4.1 so it might be fixed there..."
so of course i am looking forward to 4.1 and hopefull it will fix my problem.
but to be honest, i can not believe so many well known games refuse to install and that this can not be fixed.
anyway, earlier today i also tried to set pm setInstallLocation 1 (from 0), it did not help...

Hi people.
I've got strange problem.
Tab works very good while internal storage is empty and becomes very slowly after copying about 8-9Gb on internal storage.
So slow, that i have to wait up to 15 seconds to start, for example, Dolphin Browser.
The only way to get normal working speed is to clear internal storage and flash stock ROM via Odin.
I've tested two various 7.7 16 Gb Tabs on stock and on custom ROMs and got the problem is all cases.
Does anybody know what is the reason of this?
lagfix from Play Market solves my problem.
2Moderator: You can delete topic, but it may be usefull for somebody. I think I'm not the only one noob with this problem who couldn't find the solution with forum search.
Funny thing, same problem cropped up recently on my Tab 7.7 running Cyanogenmod 10.
The embedded MMC became very slow. Since lagfixes just reformat the partitions to ext4 and CM10 does already use ext4 they will not be any help. Doing a wipe from recovery didnt help anything.
I will probably try reflashing to stock and wiping with Odin. Maybe that will help.
supposedly deactivating mediascanner improves nothing either?
Gentlemen
I have found multiple threads covering the aspects of this scenario, but none with a clear conclusion. It might be there, but then i haven't found them.
Long story short, I have been asked to assist with doing data recovery on a Note 10.1 . There is no external SD card, and there is no backup. I´m looking for a small 8kb key file, which was lost during a data crash of another application.
So fare, the task of running a data recovery util on the filesystem (On Track or similar) have been impossible , due to the fact that the device is not rooted, and attatching it as a mass storage device dosent seem to be possible.
From what i found, it´s only possible to get mass storage to work, if the device is rooted, and even so, it will only be the SD card which is accessible
So my questions are:
Is it possible , in anyway to get access to the filesystem, so i can do a scan for lost data?
Has anybody else had luck with retrieving lost data on souch a device?
Thanks in advance
S3 but basics are the same .
