http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-m2/help/qa-rooting-locked-bootloader-ota-method-t2999665 <- You should check this. This works for any device model (even D2403), just don't try it into the .15 firmware compilation number, 'cause the rooting method differs a little.

I found an alleged "Universal MT6577 rooting method" but I'm not allowed to post the external link. Find it on Colonel Zap's blog, October 2012. It refers back to XDA but it's worth reading the comments on the blog.
I have absolutely no idea if it works on the V970, so use at your own risk....
can someone tell me how?

Here you go, it's outside of XDA but should give you all the software required, I havn't used it, so I can't testify to its usage but I believe it is the same tool from the xda post that is now missing good luck
