I was real excited to get the s6 on Verizon. I ordered it last night but now I'm undecided and feel like I should cancel it because I keep reading on here that the battery drains like mad for no reason. I have the HTC one m7 right now and the battery sucks. What do you guys think? I don't have much time to cancel. I've also read some stuff about how calls drop bcuz something is different now. Like you can't use data and talk on the phone with the same time unless you're on lte.

Not sure why you've heard such things. Battery life is fine. If you see you start getting some strange drain, a restart fixes it. Only happens to me once every couple days. 5.1 will fix it for good. Also, I've had no issues with calls dropping so I'm not sure where you heard that.
As for data while on a call, that's VoLTE (voice over LTE) or HD Voice as Verizon calls it. If you're moving and are connected to a tower, but swap to a different tower that doesn't support it (very rare) the call will drop. If you're talking to someone while being stationary, you'll never have an issue. You can turn off HD Voice, but you won't be able to use data while on a call.

If storage becomes a issue there are quite a few options for a USB drive for the phone. I Googled "usb drive for phone" and came up with a ton of options. I usually use WIFI file transfer Pro to transfer files to and from my PC.

Maybe because people don't want to carry another item around, plug it in and out, having an ugly thing plugged into this beautiful device.
And I bet people have other reasons too

Do you want to carry around a USB OTG cable and flash drive or memory card everywhere you go, having to plug it in and out when wanting to access data on it?
I have had fine battery life. I also was worried so i bought one of the samsung wireless charges to sit on my desk. My phone - for the most part - sits on my desk anyway during the day. However i find myself rarely putting phone on there as there is no need. My phone easily lasts all day with normal use.
So I got the phone today and I'm in love. The build on mine is absolutely perfect. Everything is lined up perfect. No weird pink or yellow tint on the screen. I couldn't find a single scratch anywhere on the phone which was impossible to find with the HTC one. I literally looked at 6 htc ones at the Verizon store and they all had some scratch or something on the body of the phone. I can't believe how fast this phone is and I'm at 2 hours on screen time and I'm still at 60 percent battery. Does that seem pretty good? Only on first charge ever too. Been on wifi the whole time and I disabled lots of bloat ware.

so this wonderful phone we all have is a little... Buggy... I was one of those lucky people who wasn't having any issues with their phones now all of a sudden it gets a little laggy and the screen well shut off and not come back on (sometimes if I hit the power button repeatedly it will come back)... It kinda upsets me because I thought I had a good one... It was running fine after root, and after NVflash... It was after I started different kernels and roms that I had issues... Now I am running rooted stock with no other add ons and I am still having issues...
Question time.
Sounds like I am having the same issues as a lot of other people. True?
Should I get a replacement (sounds like a lot of the replacements are duds too) or just wait to see what the update brings?
I love this phone... I don't need perfect, just stable...

Check my thread here, will give you an idea of how widespread the problems are: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1107660
Same exact thing happened to me. One minute it was a perfect little baby, and next thing you know the booger starts acting up.
I was happy in the beginning when it gave me an awesome experience and was wondering why people are complaining about such an awesome device, then it struck me out of nowhere and began rebooting like crazy.
I want to ride this beast to the bitter end... I am hoping that the end is MUCH further down the road... so as far as we know, the "update" will be fixing most o these issues... i guess I am going to hold off on the replacement... seems like those have the same issues too...
And now the battery is heating up like crazy... I don't like this! Why it's this happening?

That happened on my old G2x, the new one doesn't heat up abnormally, but it does have more light leakage that is obviously noticeable. Gonna get another one when they receive the old one.

Ill leave my WiFi off all day tomorrow, then post a screenshot of my battery statistics (not the ones provided by Android) but more accurate ones from a app called "Battery Monitor" that gives a break down of use and what you had enabled. I don't want you to think I'm a liar or anything. I guess you could call me lucky but I have had nothing but good experiences so far. I haven't had any reboots, no lag, no freezing and great battery life. Probably better battery life than any other Android device Iv'e ever used. I take my phone off the charger at 7AM and don't return it until 9PM. Throughout the day I am making phone calls, sending texts, surfing the web, reading news from 4 different apps and playing some games. I don't know why anyone would lie about there battery life but maybe some people who say they only get 5 hours of battery life are just plain lying? See what I did there?
But does anyone else have a battery that is heating up for no reason? Should I look into a new battery or possibly a new phone?

Nah, the only time my battery heats up is when I am charging the phone and at the same time playing a graphically intensive game. Even then it doesn't heat up to the point of being uncomfortable.

Yeah I see..but I'm not lying. I simply cannot believe that people actually get good battery life because I've had more than one phone and it exhibits the battery characteristics as the last ones. I wish I could experience what some people say, but it simply does not happen unless I'm on wifi. If only the phone didn't eat percents while screen off...

It also depends on how much your 4G signal fluctuates so it depends on your area. If your constantly going from edge to 4G then that is using up more battery than me if I am always getting a good 4G signal. The more work your radio has to do the more battery it will use. The phone is going to eat up percentages when the display is off but if it's eating up "Display" percentage then I would say you have a problem. If your device is in standby most ofthe day then "Cell Standby" will be at the top on the percentage list. It's doing what it's supposed to do. If there was something wrong, then display would be at the top of the list. Next time you take your phone off of the charger, play a game for 20 minutes right away then make a 10 minute phone call. At this point you should see "Display" and "Voice Calls" at the top and "Cell Standby" the bottom. If not then something is wrong. I know there are many people with bad battery's and ones who have had problems with multiple units. I am just not one of them.

So I posted a thread a while back and after rooting my phone, my SIM card kinda fizzled out and died (I suppose). I was getting problems like No SIM card detected/lack of connection. Perhaps it was just a coincidence and I just had a bad SIM card. I switched my SIM card about 3 weeks ago (unrooting my phone first) and so far everyone has been normal. I'm a little wary of rooting now, but my battery life is kinda being killer and I wanted to get TB. It can last an entire day but it's typically down to like 10% at the end.
Also, the other thing is that I'm just wondering about updates, like whatever happened to 2.3.6? I know they took it out, but if I root my phone, I won't be able to update it anymore right? So I was thinking that I should maybe wait another month and see if the fixed update was gonna come out...but is it even important? (And of course, the lovely ICS which will come out.....never lol)
if you cant handle it, dont do it...i dont get why people ask others to decide for them

The sim card thing had to be a coincidence, i cant see how its related. Rooting may or may not give you better battery life depending on your use. Running a slimmer rom with less bloat will help, and some kernel tweaks also help.
As far as updates, people here always grab them and upload them so you arent missing much honestly. UCLA3 was the latest "update" that got pulled again. IMO it is garbage and i still run 2.3.5 but other people love it and have had 0 problems with it.
Root it imo.

One extra bit of advice though. For battery life try an app called juice defender. There is a free and a paid version. If you're rooted you get extra functionality out of thru paid version. It more than doubled my battery life. I don't run it all the time but when i need my battery to last i switch it on. Seriously astounding results.

SIM cards can, and do, go bad. Sometimes they will last years or sometimes hardly no time at all. My longest lasting SIM was almost 3 years and 4 phones, and I've had one at work last me maybe 6 weeks.

Not sure what you don't get.
I suggested he root. Then, because he commented on battery life i suggested the app called "juice defender". It controls data connections, wifi, location based wifi enabling/disabling, even cpu speeds if you are rooted. There are a lot of settings available in the paid version but even the free is good running under the default settings. As i said, when i have it running i get double the battery life. I don't run it all the time though because sometimes i just don't have the need for it and control it all manually.
Does that clear it up? Like i said, not sure what you were confused about.

Oh I still am using JD. never considered the paid version though. I figured with TB ultimate's ability to freeze the ware that that would be enough.
To the second post, I'm asking because I just wasn't sure if rooting would cause my SIM card to fizzle (I didn't think it was because of the root, but there could always be a chance...?). And then I didn't want to keep unrooting, grab a new SIM card, root once more, etc. But I'll probably root this weekend what with my last spring break upon me.

Read everything in all of the SkyRocket forums...twice. Then, read it all again. When you are done reading everything for the third time, root your phone. If there is anything you don't understand, use the "search" function. Then read everything a fourth time. After the fourth read (there will be a test) you will need to do several "Google" searches for popular SkyRocket problems. You guessed it, READ EVERYTHING!
After all of this (no cheating) you should be able to select a ROM of your choice and flash away.
Enjoy.

So, I love this phone but have one issue that seems odd to me. As an example I am currently running pandora and tried opening the xda app which caused what appeared to be a fc but my phone kept running pandora and went to a black screen for a minute then a faded screen which eventually lead to a drop in data (briefly). Every thing was briefly unresponsive... It acted exactly like a reboot without rebooting. When I was able to unlock the screen I had no data service (briefly) and all apps closed. Xda app often fc's which is not a big deal to me but causing the black screen and data drop is concerning to me. I also had this happen when opening the phone info app while running nothing else. Should I be concerned about this? Software or hardware? I am running stock.
Edit: Have also had to reboot due to dropped data but it may have been during a switch between 4G or 3g even 1x.

Your issues are not isolated.

Mine does the same thing. Besides the stock stuff, I loaded Pandora, Google Music, Amazon MP3, and Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean: Master of the Seas game. It was nice enough to wait until just after the 14 day return window to start locking up and misbehaving. The only way I could get it back was to do a battery pull. Of course, when I brought it to the store it ran like a champ! If you can get another replacement, make sure it says 'UPDATED' on the box. Those have a newer kernel / baseband and seem to be working better.
All of mine have said updated on the box. I am trying to limit apps for now and will slowly add them if I have no issues.

This! I have the incipio dual pro case which is basically 2 cases in one and still doesn't get hot after 15+ minutes of straight dead trigger 2 gaming full graphics! While connected to 4g LTE, WiFi, Bluetooth, etc.
This is the first device I've used that does not get hot, I would exchange

Definitely something wrong with the phone you have. This is by far the coolest running phone I've ever had. Doesn't get even remotely hot.

Can install GSam battery monitor for free. Nice to see battery info in the drop down notification screen and will tell you how hot the battery is. People can have different "opinions" on the definition of hot but this way will give you an actual number. Under heavy use my device gets to 97 degree F. Believe that is the highest i've seen it get so far. Will try and play some dead trigger 2 for a solid 15min or so and check battery temp, that will get it high if anything else would!
I can say though coming from an HTC One X+ with overclocked Tegra 3 chip, that phone got up to 120 degrees F, that is freaking hot! Not a bunk device, just made with poor design as the Tegra 3 chip was never made for mobile devices, especially overclocked. Got in over my head with that device!
My silver model gets toasty with moderate use. My brothers grey is always ice cold though.

Well according to the battery monitor my phone was dropping voltage ridiculously high so I'm going to install a battery monitor and keep an eye on it and see if I can duplicate the problem I'm still not sure what it was but I do know that I was in an area that should have had 4G in the highest setting I got was 3G not sure if that causes an issue or not but it's something I'll keep an eye out

I can tell my phone will get slightly warm after some use but nothing crazy.
I have the grey model and it definitely gets warm after some heavy use. I was slightly disappointed by this because I remember reviews said it would never get even remotely warm. Its about on par with how warm my M7 got. I definitely wouldn't say it gets too hot to the point where I couldn't keep it in my hand for an extended period of time though.
I know I said that mine stays cool. With heavy use like gaming while charging, it gets a little warm, however no where near the level the lumia icon got. I'd have to put that brick down every 10 min or so and let it cool because it got to hot to touch.

Just wanted to give an update. Google services was the culprit. disabled a few unneeded items and all is well. In fact i been using it all day on reddit and digg and 8 hours later I'm still over 80%. Loving this phone over my dna. But i can't wait till root to get rid of all the Verizon bloat.

Okay I've seen people already posting about these issues, but nothing ever seems to be figured out. Either the thread dies, or the person swapped it out. Well I'm not able to do that. So here we go.
I spent $20 on an I727 Galaxy S2 Skyrocket. The phone did not come with anything, but I have an S4 charger, and a Note 3 charger. So I figured wth I'll be fine in that department.
Anyway. The phone will not charge. It says "Charging paused temperature too high". If the phone is off, and I try to charge it, it shows a caution sign next to the battery.
When I got it, it was running some version of ICS. I flashed JB, but the problem is still there. Needless to say the cache partition has been wiped, and I have done a couple factory resets. If I'm not mistaken, these guys shipped with gingerbread. So if someone thinks that will help, I'll try it, but I don't want to use that old system.
So I looked into other fixes. I saw that a possibility is the charging ic. Is that located in the usb part, or the actual mainboard? I'm not good with soldering so I may be out $20 if that's the case.
So what do you guys think?
Also gonna add this. Phone was not In use for around two hours. I feel like that is waaaay too hot.

For comparison, here's my note 3 battery info. Running much cooler, and been in use muuuuuch longer.

I wish someone had some input. anything, guys.
I called Samsung, and the device is out of warranty. So the repair cost is $70, in case anyone wants to take this route. I do not. They couldn't tell me what was wrong.

I'm guessing it's the battery. I'd try a different one if you can or buy one. They're not that expensive.

Thanks. I ordered one last night off Ebay (all the Amazon ones were in China). It's supposed to be here in 2 days.
Have you tried to charge it by using usb cable connected to a computer? I think it could be charger problem, both chargers for s4 and note 3 have higher output current。Try a different charger with lower output current eg 1A.

The phone itself will limit the charging current, unless overriden via custom kernel, and since he's flashed a different rom I'd have to rule that out. Hopefully it's just a bad battery as that would be the cheapest fix...

I have tried using my desktop's usb port. Same thing. The only way I can get this thing to partially charge is by wrapping it in a cold pack. It gets that hot. Obviously I leave the battery out now for fear of a fire. Should have my replacement battery on Thursday.
Let me just add this really quick; just from the little bit that I have used this little guy, I think I may actually like it more than my note 3 (AT&T). It's just so easy to customize. With the Note 3, I'm so limited in what I can do.
Got the battery today. The problem still exists. What's next?

Attaching a pic of the guts. Can someone point out the charging ic? Google isn't helping.

just a suggestion
1. open the phone as best as you can (remove battery and sim, memory cards)
2. use a q tip and rubbing alcohol and wipe everything you see, do it a few times
3. wait for 5 minutes, put phone back together
4. see if it works if not try step 5
5. remove all items again and put phone into 2 freezer (sandwich bags). I would suggest leave in there for 2 hours
6. remove from freezer and let sit for 30-60 minutes at room temp to warm up
now try charging
if that fails you can go extreme and freeze the phone remove and try charging it right away
let us know what happens
it was probably water damaged and shorted some of the circuits inside
Will try that out tomorrow. Thanks for the advice. I will let you know how it goes.

any luck?
I meant to open up the device as best as you can, try to get to the guts of it and wipe clean with rubbing alcohol.

Still planning on trying today, but life is getting in the way. I'll pull the mainboard and usb port completely, and rub em down. The screen is fine, so I see no reason to subject it to anything.
Edit: I also got a hold of a local repair shop, and all the guy said was "Hi, honestly it's not worth fixing, you are better off buying a new phone. since the value of S2s is pretty low." He obviously doesn't get that this is not my main driver, and I am doing this for the sake of knowledge and fun.
Okay. I did the alcohol thing, which made it able to charge while powered off. It used to not even do that. It's in the freezer now.

Unfortunately the freezing method did not help. Also the moisture indicators show no signs of moisture in the phone.
