Since 5.x it's not possible. You need to be 100% stock. See your device's forum if you don't know how to do that.

Do you have to completely return to stock to update to the new 2.3.7, as in if you want to keep all your original apps, homescreens, and all that like it would if you would just do the OTA update? or can you just OEM lock your phone then do the update and then unlock and reinstall recovery?
i just cleared cache/davlik and installed the new stock rooted from pete.
Really depends what Rom he running. If he's running a rooted stock rom, then yeah cache and d.cache

Make a cup of coffee and read all the stickies. Get your software version and follow the procedures for your software version after reading and understanding the procedure. It is always assumed you have a working knowledge of adb, fastboot and the search feature. If it seems too overwhelming to read and understand please dont root. The fact that you have to ask for a link leads me to believe this is above you.

I have a question, I already rooted my phone and put a bunch of mods, tweaks, and root only apps and I am still on the stock firmware (I haven't flashed any Roms yet). So I wanted to ask if I will still get the OTA updates from Google, or will I have to flash them myself

My bad about the title, first time making a topic so I thought I am suppose to write it there and I now I don't know how to change

I believe your phone will still download the update, but you will need to flash them from your recovery. That's how I understand it anyway.
Having root permissions itself will not stop you from successfully installing an OTA but any modification will. You can read more about the requirements to receive an OTA update here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2523217
Thanks. That helped a lot

If u use this method instead of using the LG support tool to upgrade to KitKat, You can keep root, but no recovery yet. You'll have rooted kitkat but wont be able to flash other Roms, Kernels etc for now.
Im assuming you already on Kitkat, in order to get root you will have to flash Jelly Bean KDZ, you can Download from here http://lg-phone-firmware.com/index.php?id_mod=36
Then follow this guide Of course, just download a Jelly Bean .kdz from here (http://lg-phone-firmware.com/index.php?id_mod=36) and follow this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2432476.
after you are back on JB firmware, Root and Flash Recovery and follow this guide to Update to KK http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2664652
Like i said before, Just Root No recovery for KK Yet.

somehow i've managed to brick my tab4 10.1 and i need to find a file that i can load onto my tablet in odin, can anyone help please??
Hi, thank you for using XDA Assist. You find the stock firmware for Samsung devices at sammobile.com Also see this, http://forum.xda-developers.com/tab-4/general/link-original-firmware-images-tab-4-7-t2978495 and this, http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-10-1
are there any other links avaliable as those links dont work
The first one is working for me. Here's the second one, http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-10-1
Edit, hmm not sure why that's not working, Google galaxy tab 4 10.1 xda

right i'm getting it now, do i install this via kies or odin?
Odin, you'll download a zip extract it using 7-zip or winrar. Use the .tar.md5 file in odin

do i load it under pda?
Ok, I'm going to get myself in trouble. The purpose of XDA Assist is not to be a technical support center but to point you in the right direction to get your questions answered. But, yes PDA. If you have further questions please ask them in the help section of your device's forum. You're a senior member on XDA and should knew this by now.

right i've managed to get it back to download mode again yay!! can you help me out with a link for a custom recovery so i can get it rooted please?
i have asked but its been 5 hours since i posted and nobody has responded...only you
Part of being a member on XDA is doing your homework and finding answers to your questions. Actually, that's the fun part a and you learn so much more. You'll find the answer about a custom recovery in the general forum for your device.
I'm going to close this thread now
