I went to the shop after and i was told that the phone lacks something and that is why it does not wirk. Is that true or there is something i can do to make it work?

None of the recent Motorola phones, doesn't support MHL, therefore you cannot connect it to a TV via MHL to HDMI cable.
On the other hand, S5 supports MHL, that's why it's working.

[Q] How do I connect Moto G to television?

I want to be able to watch Netflix on my Moto G on the tv via HDMI but I'm not sure what cable I need.
I bought a micro HDMI to HDMI cable but that doesn't appear to fit.
I've had a look at Micro USB to HDMI cables but they all seem to say theyre for other devices like the Samsung Galaxies.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Moto G has no video output via cable. You can use DLNA or Miracast to wirelessly stream your media to your TV. If your TV does not support this, there are options like Chromecast(only works with some apps yet) or any Miracast HDMI dongle, that actually streams the screen and audio of your phone to your TV. I hope this helps, good luck.
I have tried Miracast to my LG Smart TV, utilising the hack on 4.3......
although it attempts connection, which shows via pop-up on the TV, it does not connect at least not for me.....
I will try again after I upgrade to KK....
apparently the screen cast option is available natively.

Without previously reading any documentation of any sort I tried with an adapter I have at home. I tried with the 11 and the 5 pin adapters, with and without AC plugged to the converter module. It just didn't work.

Same here. MHL is not supported on the X2 even though it worked on the X1, which is a pity.

I've tried the MHL adapter that came with my S7 Edge and it's working fine on my X2, it recognizes and reads the USB memory stick without problem.
Are you talking about OTG or MHL? The former is an USB host to connect device... the latter is something to mirror phone screen through HDMI... Am I right?
Yes, you are right. OTG is working, MHL is not...

Instead of MHL I'm using the Multiscreen for mirroring its working perfect.
The MHL is not working but the screen mirroring in Chrome Cast works just fine for X2.

I have not tried one but my friend has a LG V10 and we went a brought a mhl cable adapter hooked it up and it did the same as the x2. So we did some research and found that a slim port adapter is wjat was needed to get the video out of the LG V10. So I was wondering has anyone tried a slim port adapter to play video over hdmi on a x2?

Sorry for the necromancy on this old thread, but it means that I can Use my X1 with a HDMI-microUSB cable, and not my X1 ?

Anyone tested this kind of cable?

Hello guys! I'm willing to buy micro hdmi to hdmi cable, something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Fosmon-High-Speed-Micro-HDMI-HDMI-Cable/dp/B003UH0Z9Q
Has anyone tested this kind of cable yet on Blupure XL or Allview X2 Xtreme ? Would it work ? I want to use this cable on non smart lcd tv's. If anyone tested this and works, let me know please.
Thanks! :good:
I've never tried but this could be interesting if it works

No it will not work.. Pure XL does not have a micro HDMI port, so no where to hook it into-
"High-speed Micro HDMI to HDMI cable, A to D type; please note, this is not an MHL cable"
this cable does NOT have usb > HDMI functionality...
you need a MHL cable for that
try something like this:
http://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=8675
(theres numerous ones on amazon, but they all have specific phones listed, mainly samsungs, but MHL is a standard that a lot of phones use...)
I have a similar one that I couldn't get it to work or even recognized on the PURE, but my HTC One m7 sees it but doesnt consistently work (it recognizes then doesn't.. bouncing between the two)
let me know how it works out
Well that seems obvious finally... I didn't saw that it was a micro HDMI and not a micro USB...

Awesome, thanks for advice. I'll try this very soon. MHL should work because i've searched a few tutorials on YT and every cable is MHL, didn't notice that before. Thanks a lot.
just to reiteriate; mine doenst work on my pure, and isnt recognized by it
I don't believe the phone is MhL capable either.
As far as I'm aware its only options are wireless casting.

Wireless Casting has a lot of delay, it's no good for gaming.
Is there another way to do this without delay?

No, if it's the only option it works that way. The phone doesn't have any other outputs that I'm aware of.

Connect Xperia to TV using USB-C to HDMI cable? HDMI alt mode capable?

Does the XZ or the XZ Premium support HDMI alternative or alt mode through the USB-C port?
This is what I'm talking about :
https://www.theverge.com/circuitbreaker/2016/9/1/12758384/usb-c-hdmi-alt-mode-cables-specifications
I think Sony dropped MHL support because of the google cast.
Not sure if usb C to HDMI works, but you can find out and let us know
Apparently the Snapdragon 835 natively supports Displayport alt mode.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ZWlkkM8SkDQ
I've bought this HUB with HDMI recently: https://www.amazon.de/Delivery-Auflösung-Ladefunktion-Macbook-ChromeBook/dp/B01BXOW3V0 but haven't got the HDMI Port to work so far, I'll try again later propably.
Any news?

I've tried it again but it didn't work. The Device might not support Displayport over USB C at all or we just need to wait for an Software Update.
Check if your device supports Displayport alt mode.
Or you could try it with a Displayport alt mode capable USB-C to HDMI cable or adapter.
C to HDMI cable didn't work.

Hi @AndroPlus.
Thanks for chiming in.
May I ask which USB-C to HDMI cable you tried to use on your Sony Xperia XZ Premium for direct audiovisual output to TV ?
Is your cable DisplayPort alt mode capable?
Thanks.

Is your cable DisplayPort alt mode capable just like this one? This cable here is marketed as DisplayPort alt mode capable and it's supposed to work with Samsung Galaxy S8 which also uses the Snapdragon 835 chipset. So theoretically it should also work with Sony Xperia XZ Premium out of the box.

I used this one (it supports Galaxy S8):
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071FNG86N/
I tried with multiple TV and monitor, but it didn't work.
[UPDATE]
I checked with HTC U11 and it works, so cable itself is good.
Unfortunately I can confirm that the Sony Xperia XZ Premium does not support Displayport alt mode at this moment in time. Perhaps Sony developers might add Displayport support in the near future though but don't hold your breath.
The hardware capability is there thanks to the incredible Snapdragon 835 but for some reason Sony decided to remove this feature through software or rather a lack thereof.
It's a shame really. Now I need to return this phone and buy a flagship smartphone from one of the competitors just to get this displayport functionality.
Hi, Oreo update has been just released for Sony Xperia XZ Premium. Any new info about USB-C to HDMI output compatibility? Can someone test it? Im thinking of buying this phone, but this is a must have feature for me. No luck with Google search.
Ditto-- any news since Oreo update?
Anyone try since the Oreo update? Results?
I just try to plug in the phone with a switch to usb C dock (capable to use with nintendo switch) but it still didn´t work for me, and nothing appears on the screen. The charging and usb are working correctly, so Oreo still haven´t HDMI support for our Phones
I connected the adapter I bought, and my phone did recognize my TV, but it didn't actually stream video to it.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/xz-premium/how-to/displayport-alt-mode-t3739553
just because a chipset supports something doesn't mean its physically connected, not even having the pins connected on the PCB will determine if it can support it, the hardware could be disabled in multiple locations and supporting chips may not even be present. yes it may well be software limited but don't hold your breath, since time began manufactures have be dropping functions from chipsets
Yes it's possible and feasible. Ignore that lame know-it-all naysayer and doubter above ^^
@Inerent
Thanks for creating a bounty thread for it.
You might want to turn it into a crowd funded fundraiser though.
100 bucks is not much of an incentive for the talented and hard working developers. Keep in mind they do this in their spare time. We must support their hard work.

How were you able to tell the phone recognized the TV? Was it data transfer protocol maybe?

I have an app called Sentio desktop. It activates if an external display is connected, or a keyboard is connected. I didn't connect a keyboard at that time, so it must've detected an external display. I tried using OTG for plenty of other things. It doesn't make mistakes. Sentio only launched when I connected a keyboard, not external storage, or even a mouse. Only when I connected a 2 in one (mouse+keyboard) did Sentio launch.
And when I hooked my phone up to the TV with the HDMI cable.
Do you think that that piece of information could be useful in making a kernel mod to make it work?

Question Galaxy a32 5g mhl issue

My dad just got a samsung a32 5g. He is trying to get mhl to hdmi to work so he doesn't have to use his data to watch netflix/hulu. I've tried 2 different usb-c to hdmi cables and neither worked. While a quick Google search says the phone is mhl compatible, I'm starting to think it isn't. Does anyone here know if it is? And if so what might need to be done to get it to work? Thanks.
I'll give it a try once I get home.

{Mod edit: Quoted post has been deleted}
Only certain phones have this feature. Unfortunately a32 5g doesn't seem to be one of them.
Same with A21. Samsung enable video output via USB-C on their more expensive phones.
You can explore WiFi direct or Quick Connect to see if you can display the video on another monitor. The use of ABD to disable apps could cause problem, and you may need to reset the phone to factory configuration to check for proper video support.
you need this cable for your Galaxy A32 5g to work with tv without using your hotspot data or anything other than just a cable and a app the app is EZCast for androids and the cable is cheapest at ebay thats where i got mine and it works perfect (( Renkchip 2-in-1 USB C/Micro USB to HDMI Cable ))

+1. There are two self contained MHL cables available. Work great. Make sure you use 60hz and if you want the tv to be fullscreen, change your phone resolution to a 16x9 one.

lol wtf happened to reading posts?
This phone does not have hardware inside for MHL, so you must get a self-contained MHL cable.

this is the one I use. The other one I had broke, but I think that was on my receiver not the cable. (Dont plug into receiver lol)
Lol sorry, but I got confused which is why I asked, thanks though..
