I decided a month ago that encryption of the sd card and the main storage was a good idea since I realised I had all the important stuff on my Z3.
It became a bit slower and a bit more laggy but not that much, it felt like it was worth it.
Then Lollipop came and now the phone is so slow and laggy it almost feels like having the first Z again...!
What the hell is the matter with Android and Sony? It feels Android is becoming worse and worse...
Anyway, since the phone feels like crappaphone from 2010 I gotta do something about it. A couple of questions :
1. Is encryption worth performance-wise on such hardware as the Z3?
2. Is it worth waiting and hope Lollipop will become better or shall I downgrade for a previous official ROM?
3. I usually root my phones and install custom ROMs but the Z3 just seems a pain in ze arse, especially since my Windows 7 computer is dying and I'm trying Windows 10 on it and my other laptop is a Macbook Pro which doesn't work as a rooting OS? Anyway, I can borrow my wife's Window 8 computer to root it but is there a ROM worth running it compared to the original pre-Lollipop? I want speed and slim.
4. There is no stable Ubuntu Touch worth running on the Z3?
Gimme some good suggestions what to do dear XDA peeps
Errr full encryption here and I barely notice the performance difference. But I encrypted on lollipop, where as you did it on kit kat?
Maybe try doing a fresh start with lollipop and encrypt it from there.
Pure stock btw.

don't have performance problems on lollipop z3 encrypted. but encrypted on lollipop. basically got new phone with kitkat, downgraded down to version ". 93" which can be rooted by exploit, rooted, installed recovery, created pre-rooted lollipop rom from stock with SuperSU and XZDualRecovery, flashed that, and removed basically all bloat and other cheap. Then encrypted and very happy. not only is my phone fast, but also last over two days on battery.
Ok, sounds like an idea to make backup of all the stuff and then downgrade and root it
Thanx for he idea!

never regretted it. creating prerooted rom is easy and lollipop gives me better battery performance than kitkat.

Just to give you additional reason and evidence to not to worry, I have benchmarked my Z3 using PCMark Work Benchmark (I trust this one more than any AnTuTu etc.) and it gives score of 4489 while average for Z3 is 3749. This means that debloated Lollipop (installed Xposed with couple modules like GravityBox etc, Amplify, Greenify, CyberShot) gives 19,7% increase in performance while maintaining excellent battery life. It lao means that my device has better performance than average Galaxy Note Edge (octa-core Exynos 7) or even HTC One M9 with Snapdragon 810 (octa-core A57/A53).

Some of them seems to be pretty necessary for Android to function good, or am I totally wrong?
I have deleted some file which has lead to that I cant change the colour of the system/settings :/ I might be able to solve this with Xblast but Ill see about that

That's a good way to go too, i deleted almost all the google stuff because you can redownload them anyways and some sony stuff, and almost googled everything and even if something doesn't work later on, you can always just copy back the apk of those app and clear dalvik cache, i have done that with DS3/4 controller app which i first removed and then later added as a system app.

I Actually delete things just move them into /system/backup folder therefore keeping all files not only apk but also libraries, and retain permissions

I just took a gamble and canceled my Verizon account and switched to AT&T just to get the Nexus 5. I must say I do not miss the S4 one bit. Google made it so easy to root and unlock the bootloader. The phone is incredibly fast! I like how its simple to use. An example is the camera. You open it and shoot pictures. Samsung camera had so many different features that just wanted needed and probably bogged down the phone.
Now that I have my phone setup I just wanted to see if theres anything you guys recommend. I am rooted with the bootloader unlocked but I kept the stock rom. With the stock rom I got Gravity box to let me customize the rom to my liking. I also got greenify(donate version).
Is there anything in particular you guys recommend?
Heres a list of apps Im using.

Launcher:Nova Launcher
File Browser:Solid Explorer
Backup:Titanium Backup
Power Toggles
Do you guys recommend anything else useful or cool? Am I wrong for not wanting to do roms? I just want the most stable I can get. Ive noticed in the past that once you start romming that things become unstable.

There's nothing wrong with flashing a ROM. Makes the phone far more customizable and in most cases, improves performance. If you don't like it just revert back.
A root app I would recommend is 'Greenify'. Some people believe it is useless, however on my old single core phone, it was quite dramatic. So you might as well use it.

Yea i got the donate version of that. Mainly because one night i charged phone to 100% and unplugged it. In the morning it was at 75% I was shocked. I put greenify on there and did the same thing. What a difference. Work up with 97% battery.
Congrats I did the same but went with tmo about 9 months ago. So happy!
Check out xposed and the module gravity box. It's all I run. It's all you need to run (imo).... Root required but I use stock Google rom with stock kernel. No need for custom kernels or roms (imo)
Fwiw I don't use anything else. No need to greenify anything (again imo)

I have rooted and loaded custom ROMs on many of my phones.
I don't know why but for some reason I am bit hesitant on rooting my G3.
I see now there is a quick and easy script to root even the Lollipop 5.01 OTA 850 so I am tempted to do this.
My question is if I don't want to load a custom ROM will the debloating and removal of carrier IQ make a noticeable difference to performance or just give a warm cuddly feeling that these are now gone?
I know there is tweakbox but it appears that besides some nice customizing that can be done there is not much on he performance side of things?
I am finding 5.01 a little laggy and it would be nice to get the phone running smoothly.
I don't even know why you asked.... Always root.

You asked in wrong section... This is the general section .. We have a Q&A section for stuff like this.. For me I can not have a phone without root. Without root you have nothing but a normal bloated lag fest of ugliness... If you k ow anything about the capabilities possible with root then you would understand. Please next time you ask a question can you please put it in correct section. Please and thank you.

If your simply looking to remove bloatware you will only be freeing up memory on your device as now in android you can simply disable most bloatware. If that's all you really wanted to do then I guess you shouldn't root. The reason stock 5.01 feels laggy is more than likely due to lgs launcher I prefer an aosp rom on all my phones currently using cyanogenmod offers great battery life while being pretty stable.

The thing I appreciate most about rooting, and is the reason I will always root my device, is the ability to save a complete nandroid backup of my phone. I just feel comfortable having a complete image backup of my phone should I have to wipe it, lose it, or just have to replace it for any reason. There are other reasons too, like being able to back up individual files with Titanium Backup (multiple revisions in case an app update doesn't work right), remove bloatware, switch apps from system to user apps for better management, and customizing some features.
I really only run Greenify, ES File Explorer, and Titanium Backup root apps, but having the other abilities makes it appealing.

I was in your exact same situation a few days ago. The problem with me was that LG was just SO AWEFUL at making a skin, and they really sort of ruined some of the great aspects of the phone. I currently have CM12 on my G3, and it is great. Very little lag, customization through the rough, and basically everything as expected. To do this I had to downgrade to 4.4.4 from 5.0.0, and then to CM12, but before that I rooted 5.0. Rooting made a few good performance strides, but realistically I think your best choice is a custom ROM. Especially for this phone.
Thanks for the replies.
I am having a really bad run with the D850. The original one I bought died on me and was replaced with a refurb by AT&T. Since then there has been one issue after the next. My latest replacement has everything working OK except that bluetooth is staying awake after a drive in the car and flattening the battery. AT&T claim that this is a known problem with certain D850's after the 5.01 OTA update and are saying that it's LG's problem to fix.
I'm reluctant to start fiddling with rooting and ROM loading until I'm sure I have a phone with everything working the way it's supposed to.

Sorry you have those problems. The G3 has been flawless for me and even after being out for a year there aren't any devices I would rather have.
A root, install TWRP and a clean install of one of the stock based 20f Roms for this device might fix the Bluetooth problem. I use Bluetooth in my car and headset every day and my battery is excellent, better than on KitKat. I have been running the ROM from autoprime.

I'm usually first in line to update firmware, but when Lollipop first launched I decided to wait until a stable custom ROM was released, and in retrospect, I'm glad I did because from what I've seen and heard, Lollipop has been a big bust.
Now I am getting a little antsy to update, but reading about the 5.1.1 gives me no confidence. Apparently the Nexus 5 still suffers from laggy performance, battery drain, and other performance issues? Can anyone attest to this? Should I just stay with KK? Are the custom ROM's any better or do they suffer from the same issues as stock ROM? I'm really disappointed with Google on this. They came out touting this and that about Lollipop, and it seems they've fallen flat on all those promises.
Stay with KitKat. 5.1.1 fixed/improved the memleak, that's it. It's still not as fast as 4.4.4. There are also issues with flashlight, camera, bounce scrolling, etc.

It's impossible to generalise this statement because our usage and setup is all different.
You also have to remember that the internet is for complaining, and you won't hear about or read equivalent posts with little or no issues...
My view: take a nandroid backup of your current setup. Full wipe and flash one of the latest ROMs and test for yourself.
If you discover any of these issues, then restore. If you like what you discover: win!
There is no reason to use KitKat only ( I know some guys will use Xposed as a reason ).
Lollipop has never been terrible, laggy or buggy as hell. I know that some guys have complained but some users don´t know how to handle a device.
They install every App available ( no matter if they need it or not ), collect every game ( no matter if some of these games are considered to be Malware eg. Mother of My** ).
Every system might be throttled down with 500+ Apps active and using their push notifications like there´s no tomorrow.
I never ever had any trouble with Lollipop and would never ever want to move back for good to KitKat only.
I use KitKat 4.4.4 and Lollipop 5.1.1 on my Nexus 7 ( 2013 ) with Multirom but use Lollipop most the time. KitKat is just for testing purposes only if some App I really want to use, would fail to start on Lollipop.
You could try the same and use Multirom for Nexus 5. This way you can use both OS and sooner or later, maybe remove Kitkat and stick to Lollipop+ only

4.4.4 works great. Why mess with it? What's so much better with LP? Save yourself the aggravation.
My 2 cents.

What do you find about it that's better than kitkat? Just want to know.
Lollipop has more eye-candy to offer while performing a lot faster. The whole OS looks more refined by now and ART is a huge step in comparison to Dalvik.
Ofc some Apps might not work on Lollipop yet but I think you would miss out a lot since Android 5.1.1 ( Stock ROM ) is the fastest update I´ve ever tried.
Just downgraded 2 of my N5's to KK.
My wife hated it and I like Xposed too much.
Now that Xposed is working in 5.1.1 I will probably upgrade and give it a try again.
I keep a 3rd N5 on Kitkat and use multiRom to experiment.
5.1.1 is fast and looks good but IMHO its not as stable as KK, at least not yet anyway, i went back to KK on sunday and it was like getting my phone back, feels more solid and battery life is much better, you very well may regret upgrading.
Lolipop for me became an excercise in searching for wakelocks and trying to diagnose leaks and what was draining the phone, with Kitkat theres no hassle, it just works by itself, the way in should.
edit: i also found the signal coverage patchy on Lolipop, phone would take ages searching for a signal if it lost it,
other complaints i had were mystery battery drains and maps stalling when driving, basic stuff really.

I think this is the best answer and prospect of the whole Kitkat vs Lollipop talk. I never had any problem when i was running the latest Lollipop and custom roms. Saying that Lollipop isn't stable is just saying "you are ****" to the google developers. I mean they are the best engineering and programmers in the World.
I am really glad that i bought Nexus 5 from Samsung flagship phones because i could really dig up the community of android and indie developers providing something for the community. Hell, i even bought Galaxy Nexus after i realized Nexus line phones aren't that bad.

Hi everyone, just picked up my Mate 9(MHA-L29 C567) about a few days ago, I love this device already, everything from the build to the software(ROM).
However I am pretty stumped on the fact that the custom rom development lacks for this phone but I see a few ROMs that are debloated n what not, i see that unlocking the BL and flashing is a bit more different than what I dealt with in the past. Mind you I was a flashaholic for all the phones I have owned
My question to everyone here is, is it wise to stick with just the stock ROM or should I go and flash a debloated ROM? Has anyone noticed any differences at all(Battery, SOT, Speed etc)? Rooting and all that can be done but I just dont know if its worth flashing since Ive noticed the ROM dates on these are a bit dated and nothing much has changed
I used to root my phones and use custom ROMs in the past. Matter of fact, at times I flash a different custom ROM every week.
But since I noticed the ambiguity in rooting this phone, the rate at which people where bricking (sometimes need to pay FH to be rescued), lack of development but most importantly, the phone is quite fast and UI isn't too bad, I decided to save myself the headache.

I think this thing stock is pretty good. Just got this a few days ago (MHA-L29 C567) and I'm coming from a Note 4. This thing is freaking fast as it is. Any bloat I disabled/uninstalled if it would let me. I to am a total flashaholic, but with this I feel theres no need. As long as Huawei gets some updates going through the pipes I'm happy with this thing!

It should see at least one major upgrade I would think. I mean it's a flagship and just under a year old
Stick with stock
I would flash a custom rom if it was easy just for fun... But I am happy with it
First phone I haven't rooted - there are a few tweaks I'd like, and a few apps I'd like to uninstall, but apart from those minor issues this phone is a gem.
(yet another Note 4 user)
Stick with stock. Root and uninstalling unwanted apps are pretty easy.
I flashed custom rom however I think the stock rom is very good and has better battery life. I flash custom rom just for fun and I like the extra function of KangVip apk.
ok i am flashaholic
unlocked, root, twrp and flashed two roms from here (RomAur and Ephemeral Mate 9) but they ****ed up my M9 (bootloop and lot of other s..t) then back to stock then all again then rebrand, then Firedance rom for L29, then next ver., then next, then rebrand back to L09 then flashed Firedance-MHA-L09C432B194 from other forum and thats a winner
now waiting for next ver.
I was also a flashaholic once upon a time. This is the first device I have not rooted. I feel the stock experience has taken on a new life, things that we used to root for are now becoming part of the stock system. The only thing I wish I could have is a system wide add blocker. I know there are ways to do this without root (and I'm using them) but the root variants are better.
Nevertheless, keep this thing stock, don't root, use the heck out of it and don't think about it. [emoji3]

I suppose you can flash it and keep root if you pre root it and package it as a flashable zip. As far as keeping data, I don't think so.

for all those that say that emui is better than........... well..... anything else, thats just wrong. i had this phone for about a week and i sold it asap. i bought it off ebay for a real cheap price. i fixed the cracked screen and found someone at school that wanted it. emui is just bad. its not as bad 4.0 and what not but its still horrible.
its far too modified to be of any use. if huawei just added their own bloat and "optimizations" without the UI crippling it would be okay. as it is one cant add any quick tiles which is horrible. almost all other oems dont cripple android to the same extent as huawei.
sadly the mate 9 has no custom roms and it looks like it will never have them so its not viable choice. i dont see that changing anytime soon.
The first android that I haven't rooted.
I'm using blokada to block ads which is working pretty well but I wish there was a way of deleting some of the stock apps (especially the calendar) or at the very least deactivating them so they didn't come back.

Can I flash B230 without losing data and root?

That's exactly what I would be looking to do too, Allan on a C567 (well currently that anyway, rebranded). Let me know if you have any luck doing it.

But Xpose-Installer is patched with my update.
Glad I have plenty of 10b's backed up should I feel the need to go back..

Don't Know Why....
But, I had to side-load to make it rain.
Now... 10c is running to perfection.. much faster and smoother than 10b ever was for me..
Gawd I Love It..
So if we install this, do we keep root?

So Sorry Mixi... But The Answer To Your Question Is No...
But 10c is easy enough to Re-Root.
And You Are Going To L-O-V-E It..
It's been too long since I've flashed firmware for an LG phone. We use LG Up these days?
It's Easy !

Hello Mixi...
Since your on MetroPCS just take the update..
I just did the update for the Tmob TP450. Not seeing any significant difference. What measurable improvements are you seeing that are so exciting?

E1.. I Can Only Speak For Me..
I don't know how "Exciting" the improvements are.. but, I know I have a smoother overall experience.
Apps open faster.. visibility appears better outdoors.. and, Xposed is running as smooth as silk.
Oh... and even though I already had an EXCEPTIONAL battery/device.. and was getting 12+ hours S.O.T. ( I posted some pics somewhere else in these threads a month or so ago..) My battery life has gotten even better ( see pic ) I get over 8 hours S.O.T. easily.. and as you can see, I still have a little over 40% battery life left.. A day an a half is easily achieved.. This device is running so well that, I've actually slowed my march towards the Redmi Note 4 or Moto G5S Plus either of which will be my next device due to their overwhelming Developer support.
I can't speak to what T-Mobile does/adds to their devices.. or what apps you have/run that may effect you not seeing any changes in performance or battery life.. everyone's experience is different.. but this is mine.
I will say that my battery life was outstanding right from the box and still is. If I don't do some heavy duty work on the phone it will last well over a day, maybe 2. But I do use both Data Saver and Battery Saver and I think that helps a lot. And it's great to be able to swap the battery unlike most current flagship phones.
Can someone post unmodified boot images and recovery's for 10b and 10c? I'm trying to uninstall TWRP and root before I go over (to have a clean nandroid before I swap) and I only have access to Linux....

Thanks to sdflowers32 for being a true hero!
You Really Should Delete It...
YMMV...
But...RCTD really needs to be put to death.
I've gained about 1 hour's more SOT @ 1% loss.
See Before & After pics...
Rest In Peace TD.
Stock ROM TWRP backup?
So, does anyone here have the stock ROM, and TWRP installed?
If so, would anyone mind uploading a system + kernel backup?
Thanks in advance!

I'd second the comment about smooth user experience. This is by far the fastest most responsive phone I've owned to date and 10c added an extra bump. I removed some of the LG and TMobile junkware via ROM Toolkit like the "Lookout" tool, TMobile TV and more and it's definitely faster. I disabled all of the animations and set them to zero. Also have installed AdAway and AdGuard which both help tremendously IMO. Overall a great phone for me and highly stable. I like this phone better than my LG G4 although the G4 has a better camera. Stylo 3 Plus is one nice phone. Thanks to the admins. and senior developers. - Stylo 3 Plus - LG TP450 - OEM Unlocked, TWRP, Rooted, No Verity, etc. 10c via LGUP.
Still Functional...

Hello..
It's nice to see new owner's happy with their purchase.
A suggestion to all that read this...
Get a "Slim-Case" LOOSE THE SCREEN PROTECTOR it's simply not needed.. unless you try REALLY hard.. you will not scratch the screen..
Then, this becomes a very slim and somewhat modern device for the average user. Rooted-Stock is 110% stable and very fast for a snapdragon 435 and batterylife for me is 12 hrs+ S.O.T... this phone works well and for me, will usher me into 2018 just fine..
Until the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 arrives..
Flash Fire experience for taking updates
So i own two LG stylo MP450 from MetroPCS
(well, my wife owns one)
I successfully used FlashFire to update mine while maintaining root.
For some reason, hers was not successful and i had to do it the long way.
This was true when i went from MP45010b to MP45010c
Flashfire worked on mine from c to d and d to e
Her's, since i was using LG UP i just did the manual way straight to e.
Hope this helps anyone, my two cents - give it a try.
