[Q] Removing GAPPS in COS12 - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've been using cm12 nightlies for my oneplus one to fill the gap until 12s would come out. Now that it did, it adds a whole lotta useless gapps that i dont need and cant remove. Other than disabling/using TB/deleting system apk, is there a way to get rid of them? There are zips to remove google framework from cm (freecyngn), but I want any and all gapps to be gone. Is there a way?

Completely removing system apps isn't the best idea as it'll break future updates, just freeze with Titanium.

its such a "work-around" solution though. Surely there has to be a way to do this directly through recovery/when flashing the rom?

I don't see how you find that a workaround solution. They're files, the universal standard for deleting files is via file management software. There's no way to do it via recovery, you could create a flashable script but that's the true workaround solution.

Yep. Or Titanium can remove system apps, it's a bit easier that way because they're all in one list. In the /system/app directory they're in sub-folders on Lollipop.

[Q] YouTube OFF?

Hi Guys,
Every ROM I flash I try to Freeze/Uninstall and remove from Boot Many, the YouTube App.
I don;t use it ever, but even if it says freezed successfully it still comes back after reboot.
What's so special about it and will it creat a problem if I delete it and main question is how?
Thank you

In my other android device experience, Nook Color / Simple Touch, YouTube is instrumental in the Google Apps authentication process. For instance to get market working on nooted versions of those devices you had to sign into YouTube first.
Why are you trying to get rid of it?

Never used it, if I need to I can view it in the brother. Just another app that loads up on boot and sits there using the battery

Fair enough. Why don't you give it a try? Make a nandroid backup and then delete the file via ADB in recovery mode (or move it to /data/local/tmp for easy restore). Clear Cache / Dalvik reboot and see if anything isn't working properly.
I would say you can delete via ADB in ICS but many people, myself included, are having issues mounting /system in ICS. It could be possible that this failure for /system to consistently mount could be why TiBu isn't freezing it properly.
Use root uninstaller, its how I have removed all system apps since my gb 2.3.1 days on my x10. A very effective method
Thank you for responces.
The proper way I found would be to transfer it to a User App and uninstall.

I use 7zip. open the archive and delete it, or add whatever .apk you desire. I always do this before I even flash a rom. Winrar should work fine, though.

[Q] Which file holds the custom ringtones for contacts

Does anyone know which file holds the custom ringtones for contacts. I am sick of setting them up everytime i flash a new rom. Tried Backmytone from the store but does not work on 4.4.2.....thanks in Advance
It's just a ringtones folder. I've never figured out a way to save the custom ringtone for contacts a crossed roms

I use light flow to manage custom sounds for texts and it saves over roms. It has an incoming call option. I guess that would would too.

I would guess it's in contact storage, contacts2.db, or something of the like.

Yeah you can't just restore the file. That's where they're kept though, never-the-less.
If you're adventurous, you could use adb and sql lite to make the modifications to the new contacts2.db

I am adventurous, but what are the changes i need to make ?
It is also possible with this app, but it does not restore properly on KITKAT, but this would be ideal if it worked on 4.4.2

Essentially you would need to "write" whatever is in the "custom ringtone" field to each line that contains a contact that you have a custom ringtone for.

TWRP folder missing

Ive held off, but before I update to 5.1, I figured I'd ask before running into problems
Im able to navigate to the TWRP folder when in recovery and restore backups, though the folder is nowhere to be found when looking with a file manager.
I've used Astro, Amaze and Cabinet file managers and the TWRP folder is missing. I did notice a file named TWRP, but it does not open and is not a folder.
How can I get the folder back to manage my backups?

No it is not. I just recently had this problem, say a month. Ive dealt with what youre talking about when switching from kitkat to lp, but that was loong ago and has been fixed. This is a random thing. All my folders and data are available except TWRP, so try again

Install Terminal, type in:
su
restorecon -FR /data/media/0
Then reboot your device. You should have your TWRP folder back normally. This happens when you perform a backup via TWRP which disalign the partitions. Try updating your TWRP recovery to 2.8.5+, they seem to resolve the issue on later versions.
(you must be rooted, and grant access to terminal).

My TWRP folder is visible on my computer, even its contents inside. You could try, I'm still on TWRP 2.8.5.0. it should work with 2.8.5.2 as well.
Edit: Youl probably know when something's wrong with your internal storage partitions if you are having a folder named "0", it shouldn't be there in the 1st place.

Is it possible, that TiB has created it and that is somehow connected with folder storage, visible on PC, but not on phone? And if you delete this folder on PC all content of storage will gone.

Yep, if you delete that "0" folder, it will wipe out the entire internal storage. I always experience this issue on old TWRP recoveries, when transitioning to lollipop or by making a backup. As for my observation with Titanium Backup, it creates a folder named "storage", I delete that folder before and it wiped my internal storage as well. That thing, I could not sorted out atm.

As of this moment, I'm kind of enjoying the stock 5.1. Google has made a pretty decent job with this update. I will surely be back to CM12 once they release the 5.1 builds. Plus OmniRom 5.1 is out too, I might also try that before really going back to CM. I really like CM because of their CAF roms.

Have you tried it on stock 5.0.1/2 before? I haven't tried integrating updated apps with libs to 5.1 yet. I've tried with Play music and Messenger, just replaced the Music2 in priv-app by overwriting. But I think you should put the lib files (.so) on the /system/libs for it to work. Like on GooglePlayServices.
Edit: I backread some on your thread, as my statement above was already addressed. That's strange, I might try integrating some apps and report back later.

data/data folder is empty - Can't load app

Hi
I was trying to load an app (my banking app) and it simply shows blank screen.
I uninstalled it and then tried to reinstall it via google play but got -506 error message.
Googling this error, I came across a suggestion to delete residual files from data/data but /data is empty.
I'm using latest cm13 sultanXDA rom.
Please help!!
It's not empty. Enable root explorer and you will be able to see contents of data partition

of course I'm using rooted device and I use ES explorer to get to root folder, then data.
Use root browser then, I'm 101% sure that /data isn't empty because you would have a bootlooping device in that case!

I believe you... yet something is strange.. maybe SU is giving permission issues. I installed another root explorer and it said something about root permissions...
Well that's your culprit. Find the fix and you're done. You'll be able to see /data that way too

seems to be SU version which gave issues. I reverted to an older SU build and it's working now.
Thanks!!
