Does anyone know how to turn off that feature where the screen instead of being black becomes kinda gray?
It happens in the sun for example, to increase outdoor visibility, but I don't like it:/
I can't find anything in the settings regarding that feature.

Not sure exactly what you're talking about, but my first guess would be to try and turn off auto brightness, see if that helps. It doesn't work very well anyway.

It happens with or without auto brightness.
I work outside so I notice it more. Sometimes screen decides to make the colours more dull which kinda helps viewing it outside. It happens automatically when its bright, but I would like to control it.

May be screen changes its colour temperature? Have you tried changing it manually from display settings?

Nah, checked that.
I would show you what I mean, but screenshots won't work.
Its a bit annoying, but I can live with it.
I had a similar setting in first Huawei ascend mate, but I could turn it on and off.
Unfortunately, I cant do it on mate 7...
I know what you are talking about. But can't find an option to turn it on/off either.

Hi there,
My question is:
Is it normal when this phone is on auto brightness and direct sun hits it, it makes the screen horribly saturated?
The colours look terrible, almost fluorescent.
I've had lots of Galaxy flagship phones before and never noticed this.
anyone else?

Change display mode under Settings > Display from adaptive to anything else. That's how it works now.

No, that is just the inbuilt Brightness booster going on. When hit with direct sunlight, If you phone is on auto brightness or set to maximum brightness, the display will change contrast and colour + boost the brightness to near 700 nits so that you can easily read it.

I know. But it only happens (a least for me) when the display is set to adaptive.

I've never had my phone display set on Adaptive. It's always on Basic display mode and it still does it.
Way too bright. Never remembers my preferences. Every time I turn in the screen, even in a dark room, brightness us 50%. I'm constantly turning it down but it goes back up.
How can I fix this? I refuse to believe my only option is a third party brightness app.
-EDIT- Here's the solve:
Just go to apps>settings>applications>application manager>more>reset apps preferences. This clears out any personalized brightness settings. This worked immediately.
Well turn auto brightness off.

Yes that is, you set the brightness the level you want, manually.

No. I want auto brightness to adjust to the ambient light. That's the point of auto brightness. 50% brightness in a movie theatre means something isn't working right. And the S7 auto brightness is supposed to be personalized to the user but obviously this isn't working either.
Mine is working just fine in any ambient, I don't know what settings you mess up with.

I don't know! users are prone to do such a thing when they mess up with their phone.
Make a backup, reset your phone and try again. Mine still works just fine.
alright, smart alecs. Just talked to Samsung Support. Just simply go to apps>settings>applications>application manager>more>reset apps preferences. This seemed to fix it. The tech said sometimes carrier updates can corrupt settings. So that's neat...

How do you mess up with app manager?
Installing stuff on your smartphone!

Users are prone to do this. Again mine and everybody's else are working just fine.

Every time you install an app on your phone they change something. Some times are nothing important, other times they mess with the whole system settings.
Glad your settings are working now.
Actually i had the same problem when i got the phone, did a bit of search n found it has a smart brightness feature.
You have to choose ur brightness level according to the ambient light in the room cuz it remembers each time you set the brightness level according how much light the sensor is picking.
Short answer, keep changing the level of brightness for couple days until it learns the new levels.

When I'm outdoor in extreme sunlight the phone's brightness goes all the way up and then it enters a mode where colours seems washed out. But only if the light is very strong. Does your S7 behave the same?
I may have to give that app settings reset a try. At first the auto function seemed fine. As time passed it grew worse. However, mine would be too dark in dimly lit situations and semi-acceptable in bright conditions. I finally turned off automatic as it was extremely annoying and almost always incorrect.

Yes. That's a special boost mode I think. Without it the screen wouldn't get bright enough to see well.
As most people know, the screen goes into "very high brightness mode" when in direct sunlight, which actually bothers me as colors get pretty messy and it's unnecessary where I live.
Does anyone know how to disable this feature?
Thanks!!

Im pretty sure When you set the brightness up high and it gives you that popup, it doesnt change any color adjustments. (It also doesn't get bright enough when out in direct sunlight but I figured that's a given lol)
This is the "outdoor mode". It's not possible to disable it as far as I'm aware.

That was it! If I leave the brightness just under 100%, it won't trigger the "sunlight mode". I'd still prefer to have a way to disable it, but it's something! Thanks!
Sent from my SM-G955F using XDA-Developers Legacy app
I just received my mix2s last weekend, and I have been using it for several days.
But through these days, I find it that when you turned off the automatic brightness, and the phone is displaying some dark or black contents, the brightness will get lower by itself, but when you turn to some colorful or brighter contents, the btightness will get back to normal itself.
so I'm wondering is there anyone got the same problem like me? and how can I turn it off? I mean, just don't turn down the brightness itself when showing dark contents.
Just checked it on my phone and you are right, screen becomes darker when you display dark content. Also with auto brightness disabled. Maybe it has something to do with the automatic contrast settings
Edit: I was right, if you disable automatic contrast the brightness stays like you set it

can you tell me where is the "automatic contrast" settings? seems that miui just deleted it
It seems to be a problem since the last mix 2. you can try search on google and on this forum.
There are few fixes you can do, just go over the search. I didn't do it myself because I just manually adjust the brightness myself. It is pretty annoying though.

thank you, it works. But is there any way to keep brightness stay with automatic contrast enabled? I bought this phone in China, but the screen of Chinese version mix2s seems extremely yellow if I don't enable automatic contrast :crying:

Maybe with a third party app that changes the contrast? You would need root privileges for an app like this I think...

Thank you I could not figure out what was causing this on my phone. When watching Youtube on lowest brightness at night the screen would fluctuate and it drives me crazy. Did not know that had something to do with it but now I know.
This is an old thread, but it's high on Google rankings, so I'm adding to it.
I think my main annoyance with this is the position of the sensor. If I'm typing or scrolling with my thumb, it seems I'm covering the sensor with my hand, so it thinks it's gone dark, so decreases brightness.
Disabling the auto brightness fixed it for me
(Using Resurrection Remix)
Yesterday i noticed something strange in my OP7p and i'd like you to check whether something like this occurs in your phones. Issue, which i will describe occurs only when i have 90hz refresh rate set and the low brightness of the screen with the auto adjustment of brightness turned off. The easiest way to see that is on youtube application with a dark theme. When we start a movie on the full screen (horizontally) and watch it for a few seconds, then go back to the vertical position, there is something like weak but visible blink of the screen, or a minimal colours change. It can be noticed in other apps, e.g. on facebook. Seems to me this is a software problem, beacause the same phenomenon doesn't exists when we set 60hz refresh. I would be very grateful if you can check it on your phones and give me a know about it.
I don't usually start videos in full screen mode and never noticed it but yeah definitely does a white flicker.
This is the highest brightness I could get it to do the flicker at.
Thank you for an answer. Personally i am able to see this flicker on a little bit higher screen brightness, but maybe its because im sitting in a dark room now. I was worried cause sometimes i see it during the normal usage of phone, and if only my OnePlus would be affected by this flickering i could still return it or exchange for a new one. It isnt very disturbing however interesting is whats cause of it.

You might want to try the DC dimming option in Settings->Utilities->OnePlus Laboratory.

From what i know jelly effect appears while we scrolling some content and propably that's not what i meant in my first post. Also flicker in my case is only visible on 90hz refresh rate.
I have galaxy s7e as a second phone and that effect doesn't happen there.
