[Q] Recover data after factory reset (Moto G 4G) - Moto G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I had to do a factory reset on my Moto G 4G as it was not working properly. I backed up everything using Helium and all the contacts to storage. I didn't realise that I was actually backing up to internal storage rather than an SD card (not present). After a factory reset, I lost all the backups. I assumed Helium would have backed everything up to the computer it was connected to?
Is there a way to recover what was on the internal storage prior to the factory reset? The phone doesn't appear as separate mass storage drive when connected to the computer. It is just listed as the phone name under My Computer so I cannot seem to run any standard file recovery tools such as Testdisk.
Help!?

No hope?
I'm guessing since no one has replied that there is no hope in recovering the original data?

Hey
U know recovery applications that I used can scan memory that can mount ... (I can't remember exact name)like using Samy or Sony.they shows the drives as a software not a mountable memory.like u put SD card on a memory reader n use that.it can be support by rec app but that one no I think
Try rec app in ur system or find a hack that can mount internal men then go on
Hope this will help you

Might see if this thread will help mounting the storage in ADB http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2843152

[Q] Unlocking bootloader wipes SD storage: YES OR NO???

I'm seeing different answers in different threads. I need to reinstall 2.3.4 but have to go back to earlier version first. ClockworkMod was suggested to me but the only way to get that is to unlock the bootloader or root. And both of them wipe the SD storage, right?
EDIT
it does format

No
Unlocking and locking your bootloader will only reset your phone data not internal SD data
even if it did you could just copy everything to your PC
And you flash Clockwork recovery from bootloader screen after you unlock it doesn't require root.

How can I copy it? I lost USB connectivity, from the manual 2.3.4 install, which is why I'm trying to go back to an older version in the first place. No SD card on the NS. Are you sure it won't delete the SD storage? I have A LOT of picture(that were on a card before the NS) and I would DIE if I lost them; pretty much EVERY picture of my 8 month old baby. Have you done this personally and your SD data was intact?
I locked and unlocked and it did format my SD card. Maybe try getting the photos off through adb

Nope, still too much of a puss to pull the trigger. Thanks for letting me know for sure. Any other ideas?
no you're not a puss you would have lost everything..i felt bad after i double checked on my phone
Only time your SD is wiped is by fastboot UNLOCKING your boot loader. Locking it will keep your data intact. The other way of wiping your SD is by selecting format SD card in Clockwork. Moving between versions of Android does not wipe your SD. When I say SD, I mean your personal stuff like pictures, music, downloads etc.

The reason I'm trying to go to an earlier version is because I lost USB connectivity after a manual 2.3.4 install, which means I can't access my SD storage. The only ways to do that are by 1)unlocking the bootloader or 2)rooting to put on CWM. Both of which wipe my SD storage. Or an I mistaken? Can you think of an alternative? Again, the key issue is NO USB CONNECTIVITY.

Have you tried removing the device via device manager and reinstalling the appropriateusb driver? 2.3.4 doesn't have a non functional USB storage.

It's showing up as Unknown Device and when I try to update the drivers it says they're up to date. Do you manually install 2.3.4? Have you heard about this issue from anyone else?
When you say you lost usb connectivity, do you mean when in the bootloader? If so you need to install the drivers from PDAnet I believe. If you are having issues mounting the drive while the phone is on, try reinstalling the device/drivers after you uninstall, reboot and use another USB port.
Hope that helps. Otherwise, sorry to waste your time. Good luck.
EDIT: Now I think I follow what you are saying. I went into recovery to mount the SD card and NADA, then USB mass storage devices, NADA. Same issue as this post right? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1072884&page=2 One of the gents recommends disabling USB legacy devices in the BIOS but I am not so sure if that will help. I had this same issue on my EVO with another recovery.

Decrypt SD card after factory reset

Hello guys,
Im annoyed with my sensation, it was shutting down itself in my pocket every 10minutes so I decided to do a factory reset.
But I forgot that my SD card was encrypted, and now it says "Damaged SD card" when I put the card into the phone.
Do someone have the same problem ? or any idea to mount the partition on linux or whatever ?
I've already tried to set the same pin as before to lock/unlock the phone, but I haven't any prompt for password, it wants to format the card ...
Thanks for your help

Hey, that's a really messed up problem.
I doubt you can make the phone read the contents of the SD Card.
However, what you could do is, format it via the computer & then use a recovery software (like Recover My Files) to get back all your important data.

[Completed] Factory Reset = Internal SD Card problem

Hey everyone!
After searching xda and reading through all the suggested threads I did not find help. Maby I just do not understand. Please give me a hint or forward me somewhere. So this is what I did.
In bootloader I accidently pushed the Factory Reset. With no warning the process started (yep, stupid me). Since there was no way to stop it, it all just happened. I booted the ROM (CM11) and it loaded OK, but the the whole internal memory (internal SD card) was wiped, so all apps that I moved there were gone, photos and music and ll was gone... Simply wiped internal SD Card and all the problems connected to it.
Now I dont really care about some photos and stuff (dropbox) but I can not get the internal SD Card working :/ I can not mount neither it via CM nor via TWRP (2.7.0.8) - HTC One S (ville) version. So it seemes it is just wiped. I know you should not wipe that and well I did not (at lease not willingly).
Could you guys help me what could I do? How to fix the memory?
I'm not sure what device you're using, so I have no links to post.
But, if you have a custom recovery and are rooted.....flashing a ROM should be all it takes to fix it.
Normally you can backup your phone via HTC backup app with one mail account. You can restore your data's, photos etc..

[Q] Galaxy S4 (rooted) - Out of Internal Storage (...but I am not)

OK...I have a rooted Sprint Galaxy S4, and keep getting "Storage Space Running Out" message !
The thing though is, that I should have tons of internal storage left. I have flashed 3 different ROMs, and after a few days I get the message again. I can erase some apps to free up space, and half a day later same problem. I can't even get my apps on the phone, due to space issues and I also can't put them on the external SD (not with a specific APP to do it for me, nor can I move them manually, because the button is simply not there in the Storage or APPs SETTINGS menu).
Every time I flash a new ROM I clear data, dalvic....full factory reset....but end up with the same result!
Could someone please help out with a fix or solution with this very annoying problem.
P.S.: ....yes, I have searched tons on this forum and others, but nothing has worked for me yet!
....ANYONE ????
Hello
Looking at images you included it looks like apps & data takes only 1 GB space . There must be some junk in internal storage (may be old .asec files , thumbnails etc). Attach the screenshot of sd storage also . I should see where the data is stored in your current rom .

I flashed old Nandroid of SACS ROM 4.3....so it would be a stock rom screenshot now, and all you would see is that there is 18Gig memory left on the SD card!!!
I had to reflash Nandroid because I traveled and I wasn't getting a signal on my previous rom! I do now...but the problem remains, or actually is worse, but at least my phone works to make calls (no txt or email, because storage space is too low).
In either case, the SD storage has plenty of room, but I don't think that this was ever an issue!....I think it is the phone itself, but maybe there is a fix and I would prefer that over taking it in for many reasons!
Thanks for getting back to me though, let me know.....
Hi
Copy all required data from internal storage to sd card and format internal storage from custom recovery (CWM/mount/format emmc or TWRP/wipe/advanced/emmc) and reboot.
Hope it works !

I will try that tomorrow and will let you know....thx again!
i want you to try stock rom for few days and check
OK...!
I wiped everything again and did factory reset...
copied everything from internal storage to a computer...
formatted data and system (twice)
wiped again, formatted data and system again....
flashed a sprint stock rom
same problem.... I have 860MB of 16GB unused space available!!!!
when I check though, my system data (bare essentials of what is left) is only 348MB....there is 647MB used for apps....the rest is clean!!!
I am still not sure where all the storage went! Could my internal storage be corrupt or broke???
Thanks for the ideas, I will try anything!!!

Try flashing your stock rom again.
I told to format internal storage (emmc) and not data and system partitions. Try that

URGENT HELP needed - Oneplus 6 lost access to internal storage

I will try to make it short. While trying to install edxposed, I messed up. It went into startloop. Then I flashed the custom ROM, twrp, base rom, formatted internal storage etc. But now I lost the access to internal storage.
So, current scenario is
1. TWRP can access internal sdcard. It's not even showing any encrypted folders, only 2 folders showing - TWRP & Obb
2. Google play can install apps, but no apps can write anything to internal storage I.e. Camera cannot save Photos, cannot save screenshot, Chrome cannot download anything etc.
3. Settings app showing 0b/0b. Es explorer showing 100% filled. Storage showing 12gb used of 56gb.
4. PC can see my phone storage but cannot paste anything in it.
So it seems to me that somehow my internal storage has become RO or something. So if anyone can help me solve this problem, I will be highly grateful. TIA
UPDATE:
problem not solved yet, but what I found is, the main problem is the root directory for the internal storage has changed somehow. By default, it resides in root/storage/emulated/0, but now it has changed to root/storage/emulated, so the apps cannot access it. Now how can I turn it back to default?

It sounds like to me you have corrupted your internal SD card you will have to format SD card instead of normal wipe and then reflash rom via Computer

I have formatted it already. And what's the difference between flashing a ROM via computer & via USB?

Wipe vs format. Wipe is just removing files from partition without destroying the partition. Format is rebuilding the partition fresh. You did not format phone because that would fix this problem. Format data partition and this will be fixed.
I also had the same issue so i flashed stock through pc. Now its fine. Only issue is on Twrp data shows encrypted, i think i have to flash dm verity zip to decrypt it
