[Q] Deodexed flashed over Odexed stock rom?

Hi all.
Perhaps this is a newbie query but here you go.
I've been flashing stock rooted OTA's from the beginning, and always chose Odexed over Deodexed I suppose because of file size. Now, I'm looking to diversify and have the ability to theme etc.
Can I flash a deodexed over an odexed rooted 4.53.651.1 OTA with out data loss?
I assume I can just wipe dalvik, and cache then apply yes?
The specific thread I'm referring to is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=17642327&postcount=1
As I'd like to incorporate this with out flashing an entirely new rom. I'm cool with stock rooted goodness.
Thanks!!
This is not a question board
This is not a question board. Might want to post that HERE
I don't think you can flash a deodexed over odexed...reason being the deodexed ROM will just overwrite the current files without removing the .odex files from the system...
But you could probably get away with it it you wiped System, Dalvik and Cache (keeping Data) before flashing the Deodexed ROM. I have always wiped System before flashing a ROM just as a precaution but I believe flashing a ROM already does that.

Excuse bigdee. Some people just get frustrated with the fact that people post questions in the development section when there is a questions and answers section the same place one will find development. Others assume people read the forum rules and investigate the forum structure before posting. I wouldn't say he was moderating, more so informing you of where to post questions so threads like these don't end up where they are not supposed to.
Hope you understand

[Q] Please help a total noob with updating my OPO

Hi guys,
Backstory: This is my first phone that I have ever rooted and kernel (franco). I was able to root my OPO with the links I have found on this subreddit (took me an hour because I am a noob). However, I am still new to "flashing, wiping, zip" etc terms.
Currently my OPO is: 11.0-XNPH33R
Kernel Version 3.4.0 franco.kernel #22
This is all that I have done with my phone. No other mods or customization. I want to update to the 38R.
I have seen the links in this subreddit on how to update without wiping data on the phone with modded 38Rs files and etc.
The thing is, I still feel uncomfortable with how to update my phone because the steps I see is "....flash this, boot that, reflash this..." etc.
I need some detailed directions, as if I am a total noob. Step by step directions.
I currently have the OTA update on my phone's update setting.
I am asking wholeheartedly to find someone who is willing to spend the time and effort to help a noobie like me in updating my phone. (I hope this will teach me on how to update my phone in the furture by using this as a reference)
What are my steps to update my phone? (Please be very specific)
Please forgive a noob like me. I thank you for taking your time to help me.

That's awesome. But, @PaoloMix09, why do it via PM? The whole point of having a q&a section is so that valuable information is readily available for those who are seeking it. The help you have given is of no benefit to the community if it's buried in an inbox where nobody can see it. In future could you please assist people in the threads? That way everyone benefits [emoji1]

Totally understand. I actually helped through hangouts. Reason being, since he is just learning, wanted to provide guidance and him being able to reply to me asap helps a lot. He was also asking many questions, best way was definitely on chat this time. Not only replying to him in here would've taken longer, but he probably wouldn't have understood some things. Just what I think.
I will try to respond on here more often.

I've got the same problem as you. Even I use the latest release, which gives me error491, then replacing downloadprovider. apk will give me insufficient space. I tried clearing cache and delete accounts etc.
I love AOSB, hope it will work on 1+.

Great job on the rom but I did find a problem when trying to enable ART. The device restarts and sits at the LG logo for a few minutes. Other then that your rom is very impressive in battery life and speed. Almost forgot At&t G3 850.
The Rom is deodexed and that could be why but can't say for sure. Are you saying ART doesn't work?

Can we nuke CarrierIQ at the source?
Would it be possible to disable the services and remove the libraries and the apk to disable CarrierIQ? There are those that would appreciate having all the tracky bits removed. Little scary for us noobs.

There are 3 big ones I want to tackle before releasing each would be tough. Stock message, phone and contacts. I had to pretty much redo the entire framework and layout for what I did so far and I'm afraid I would have to do the same for the rest.

Typo... I meant NJL TMOBILE
The Lab Rats ROM instructions say This is based off of NJL TMOBILE ONLY - do not flash if upgraded to newest firmware!

NJL is the older version before the new update that just came out which is NK3. I'm sure the Dev will update his Rom to work with NK3 soon. just keep an eye on the OP page.

I was wondering the same thing; after installing this rom I noticed that the edge screen panel lost its transparency. I am sure this can only be fixed in a future rom update if the developer chooses to do so.

It's inverted and was coded to be like that. It will be changed in an update to add transparency to it.

For the record I was not really referring to how long it takes to answer my question, as I work in the Technology field, I'm at work and also have a life. I was referring to the underutilization of Q&As in general. As its quicker to get an answer, feedback or open discussion on the development forum but posts are ADMIN Noted and pushed here. I noticed it's much more strictly enforced on some phone forums but say for a S5 it's tons of Q&A discussions right in the development forum itself for a particular Rom. Which is cool because it's more traffic. I don't personally care which one I use but.... Seems like Q&A Forums are trolled by some people who may or may not be more knowledgeable about a certain subject than another and can't wait to chime in with an answer like "You literally posted your previous question twelve hours before. No arguments here. I'm running the Rom. My question was about the edge transparency but I think you referenced my previous question about whether to dirty flash or not. Which was answered privately. Just a misunderstanding. The way some device forums are treated differently than others are frustrating though. Be Well
lab rats rom miracast!!
I am thinking of trying this rom, but I have a question. Would using this rom break miracast capability. The phone usually checks itself to see if the rom is official, does using this rom bypasses this. I use the feature everyday, and would hate to lose it. back in the note 2 days we would have to use triangle away to fool the system into thinking it was official.

Yeah I didn't even wipe dalvik/cache. I was coming straight off of stock NK3. It's been running smoothly. The only thing i need to do now is skin 3minit to match the rest of the rom. The colors stick out like a sore thumb.

I don't use miracast, but screen mirroring still works between my Note Edge and my Samsung TV. If I could test miracast I would. I thought the miracast issue was broken because of a custom kernel?

There is a delay after pressing home button and screen turning on. Anyway to fix this?
