[Q] Hotspot... Stock Rom vs Custom Rom - AT&T LG G3

I have no problems using my hotspot with any custom rom i put on my phone. But any stock rom even the modded stock roms stop working after my allotted 5 gb. I have tried the hotspot fixes, changing the tether dun value to 0 and i am still blocked. I am on the 80$ unlimited t-mobile plan on the d850. I have no problems with pdanet tethered with stock. I can even make the laptop a hotspot tethered. Whats the difference and can i implement that mod alone in a stock rom?

I am a newb I admit. No script or code in my my language although I would love to speak Klingon. But it looks pretty clear that I have stumped the pros. Lol No I'm sincerely being a whole lot of not serious. But if I'm in the wrong forum... Maybe I should be in trouble shooting? Anyway I know I'm not the only person frustrated by wanting to use LG stock apps and not being able to use the Hotspot unlimited as done with a custom rom. No worries. I will chase the solution down.

[Q] Droid1 MIUI Tethering Problems

I cannot get wifi tethering to work on my Droid 1 when running MIUI, stock froyo, or Cyanogen. I have tried Wireless Tether on all three ROMS, I can connect to the phone, but no Internet data is transferred. I'm currently using MIUI 12.3 and found that it has a built in wifi tether that also fails. Barnacle didn't work either.
From what I can figure out this may be either a kernel issue (I never changed it from stock, but MIUI may have its own?) or a problem with how I achieved root (superoneclick). I appreciate any and all advice! Thanks!
I am curious to see what the answer is. sorry i am no help to you. but i also have a old droid that i want to mess with first before i start messing with my evo.

can i go back to 2.3 or not?

why is it so hard to find what i need to go back to stock t mo us GB? i need wifi calling to work. is it too much to ask for some help? i have neen searching for hours. i need wifi calling. it seems as though these ics roms are all about colors and boot logos rather than actual full functionality. i just want to flash the firmware back and get a stock rooted rom.

Nice passive insult.
Anyway, two options:
1) Flash a RUU
2) Downgrade to hboot 1.17 and restore the gingerbread backup (that you didn't make) or flash a basically stock rom - such as ARHD.

ARHD 6.6.2 has it in its installer

shipped rom collection

OrDriod 2.0.5 as it in its installer
otherwise jsut search for the T-Mobile add-on pack
Thank you sir.

Should have been taken as more of a kick in the pants than an insult. Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe a functioning browser and (in my opinion) WiFi calling are a wee bit more important than ever changing colors and boot animations. At this point I see no advantage with ics rather than gb. In fact for me I'm at a disadvantage because I have to pay an overage charge next month due to the WiFi calling not working. I don't think anyone could hardly blame me for being a little upset.

I thanked how ignorant that was. Every rom I've tried has had a functioning browser and since only two carriers on Earth use Wifi calling (I don't believe it's even the same kind), it's not exactly a priority. ICS brings HWA and proper dual core support - how you missed that; I'll never know.
WiFi calling is free if you have the free WiFi calling plan so yes it a priority for me. And um duh I am pretty sure what I am trying to do is go back to a stock Rom.

Probably should have made a back up.
Would have been real easy. Flash old firmware. Reflash old ROM. Would have taken about 5 minutes.
And you wouldn't have had to make multiple threads complaining about how other people who don't owe you anything aren't making you perfect custom ROMs fast enough.

Darsh. Please read more.
How about keep a stock backup on your computer too? I suppose that would require thinking ahead.
Of all the sensation devs we have I cannot think of one that uses tmobile USA, so it's not a priority for them is it?
Get over it, flash your stock rom, and go back to thinking the world revolves around you ;-)
enough flaming and fighting. Keep on topic, if you can't help don't troll the thread. Thanks.

you do know there are apps such as groove ip and talkatone that let you make wifi calling so you dont have to rely on t mobiles wifi calling app. and ics has many advantages besides "flashy colors and boot animations". and i as well have never had a problem with the browser in any of the 8-10 roms ive flashed. oh well have fun downgrading!
I guess ill never understand why people act like me going back to a different Rom so I can use a certain feature that I need without an issue would make any difference in your life. After all isn't that what the hell xda developers is for is to have a choice? Are people really like that on earth? I don't know you, you're nowhere near me and I don't give a damn about you. Why would I be told to "have fun downgrading"? Is my Rom downgrade affecting everyone's phone or is it just mine? I guess as long as someone else can say they have the latest Rom kernal and radio they can say that they're better than the next guy. I guess your idea of me "upgrading" is to have a phone with ics but to have my WiFi calling not work. Yeah, that's really an upgrade for me. Thanks for your godlike insight. I needed it to find my way in life to get a non working ics build on my phone so I can say I'm as good as you are. Thanks god.
I don't like the way the xda forums show up on the browser on ics. It's hard to explain but its like part of the screen slides over instead of the whole thing. It's wierd I know. I mean dang though if I'm having a problem is it really hurting anyone else if I don't wanna deal with it on my phone? I hate how the web pages are on ics. how many times did I say I want to go back to gb and wait for an official tmous ics update to come out and go from there? Wow. This is crazy. All I wanted was WiFi calling and a stock browser. I had no idea I was hurting anyone else by asking what I need to do to put gb back on my phone. I'm sorry. I'll just pay money in overage charges so that I can say my phone is better than his because it has ics even though its not really better for me cause my WiFi calling don't work and I don't like the browser. I'm so sorry.

No one cares what ROM you want to use.
What cheeses people off is the way you complain about the hard work of others not being good enough for you and demand that this community drops everything it's doing to help you do something. And you act like we're bad people because we're not putting YOUR needs as our top priority.
You get back what you give. You give everyone a bad attitude and bark demands. So you get nasty responses.
There's 100 threads around here for people asking the same kind of thing you are. (So for one...search before asking) Those threads are usually from people asking nicely, and you'll see that there's a large number of people happily willing to help. Since lots of people want to help others, but no one wants to help you, consider that your approach may be the problem.
And my post is being 100% sincere and helpful. It's probably the best advice you can get on XDA because I'm giving you the key to getting more help on future problems instead of being ignored and chastised again. Take this advice seriously and you'll get a lot more assistance in the future. Don't take this advice and your next question will irritate everyone again and you'll get a lot of grief again.
Ok
I don't recall making any demands. Not sure where that came from. I was frustrated and in urgent need of the instructions but I never demanded anything. And I thanked the only person who did help. I mean what the heck I was getting mad that the WiFi calling kept cutting out and no patch would fix it. And I was using the hell outta my minutes. For some reason WiFi calling wouldn't work with any rom I tried. Yeah I want ics on my phone but it just ain't workin. And yes I superwiped and all that kinda stuff. Hell I love the color and and animations and tweaks but man keep it real functionality trumps colors. I'm trying these kitchens myself and I'm working on my own ics tmous rom. Apparently there are no US sensation devs so we're on our own here.
And this is what I found on the arhd page about WiFi calliing

You have to keep in mind that WiFi Calling on this or any other ICS ROM is sketchy at best. Some have reported good success with it but most have problems with consistency and some simply can't get it to work.
Until T-Mobile releases an update WiFi Calling will be unreliable. As it is the included WiFi Calling is merely an add-on and not meant specifically for this base release.
If you truly need WiFi calling it's best you stick to a stock ROM or perhaps a Gingerbread build with proven reliability.

[Q] A Quick Kernal Question

Know that we have a kernal source would that mean that Wifi Tether on the AOSP roms will be close to working or is there much more to the issue, I want to go sense free or miui but i use Wifi tether everyday due to not having a permanant internet location and a unlimited data plan
HTC has been pretty restrictive on Kernels. I haven't tested Wifi Tether on AOSP, but I don't think we're too far from getting custom Kernels soon enough

How to enable mobile hotspot on rooted stock rom

So I decided to root my phone just to get tethering to work but I want to stay on stock AT&T rom. Rooted w/ s-off on 3.18 and 4.1.1 JB. I searched and tried the one-click tether, as well as the other telephony.db adb push here on the HTC one x forums but they did not work for me. I keep getting the call 611 or something from AT&T.
You can't do it, why not just flash a different ROM? If there are at&t apps that you want to be able to use just back them up with Titanium and restore them once you've flashed another ROM. Keep in mind though that even if you can enable tethering, at&t will be able to find out.
Sent from my Evita
I cannot edit the telephony.db? I thought that was possible but I just didn't know what to edit exactly. I just had difficulty with stability of some roms here along with changing the kernel.. I guess I just wanted to keep things simple and clean with things being stock.
You can try editing the telephony.db, there should be a guide somewhere if you search Google. There are completely stock ROMs available in our development section, the only difference being that there's no at&t bloat and tethering is enabled. The first time at&t catch you tethering you'll receive a warning but the second time they catch you they'll bump up your plan and you'll be charged more.
Sent from my Evita
Ok I'll check those roms out and I know the consequences from tethering as I haven't gotten the warning yet when I had it going on my old one x. I keep the tethering to a minimum and watch my usage as I'm aware of that warning. I just need to tether once in awhile.
I agree with timmaaa that just flashing any ROM that is not AT&T base is the way to go. The AT&T base ROM is junk, it breaks or leaves out all sort of things. No benefit to staying on stock AT&T, and lots of reasons to not be on it.
I'm also on AT&T, and only use tethering on occasion (usually while travelling when WiFi is not available, or is for a fee) and have yet to get caught (knock on wood). Pretty much any non-AT&T ROM will work fine for tethering. Pick a stock-ish custom ROM, if you want to make life easier an not manually enter APNs.
Buy SQLite Editor from the market to edit telephony.db yourself, but you will NEVER get the features you want from stock at&t rom even if you are rooted.
Yeah I decided to just flashed cleanrom 6.5 and everything is working great. Thanks guys

Best fully working custom rom

I'm just looking for a fully working custom rom to put on this phone. I need everything working. THis isnt my phoen which is why im not scouring the threads myself. If anyone can help thatll be great.
Try CM10.2 which is the most stable custom ROM for this device. Also, you can try CM11 which is pretty stable too.

does 10.2 support wifi calling?
To my knowledge, no custom image for any phone supports Tmobile's current implementation of WiFi Calling. If someone can prove me wrong, I would personally adore it.
That said, Almost any Image can be made to support SIP and VoIP, which is essentially what Tmo's WiFi Calling is, without the ability to use your usual Tmobile mobile number.

I'm coming from the HTC G2 and for awhile I had a custom ROM with WiFi calling. Technically I think I had to install it as an addon after I flashed the ROM but it shows it's been done. Here's the original thread where it was posted: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1664106. Was able to get WiFi calling on ICS even though there was never a stock ICS ROM for the G2.
So it might be in the realm of possibilities. I do know that the G2 had a lot more dev activity though.

Ok.
It's possible.
However, T-Mo pushes out plenty of updates to their Wi-Fi calling that aren't aimed at improving service; they are released to break custom implementations. The difficulty of porting and maintaining Wi-Fi calling is the reason it probably won't happen on this device.
Regardless, there is no 100% perfect custom rom that will shower you with perfect mana from the heavens above and make poo smell like cinnamon rolls.
Every rom (including stock TouchWiz) is a tradeoff. That's just life.

I believe this is the old implementation of Wifi calling, which T-Mobile changed mid 2012, before the release of the Relay. There's a nearly $1500 bounty posted somewhere for someone to get the new implementation working for modern phones on AOSP based images.
