[Q] How to switch from CWM to TWRP? - Lenovo A850

My friend currently has CWM recovery but it's harder to interact with and shows a lot of errors sometimes. How can he switch to TWRP? Does he have to factory reset and then root and then twrp or is there a simpler method? Also he is interested to have a custom rom on his phone. Any suggestions? And also how can he get a rom? Is it as direct as other devices? Just flash in twrp? Pls n tq in advance

"CWM is known for stability and simplistic..." [well from my view]. It's the build he has. Try updating the recovery version and see if it helps.
But if you still want TWRP, then head here;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/lenovo-a850/general/tutorial-install-cwm-twrp-lenovo-a850-t2642431
This tuto will ONLYmad work if you have the correct build number.

Haha, funny question, if you ask....:silly:
Lemme get this straight:
I know A LOT of ROMs for this phone, but...
I know NONE that would work.
Because I assume you aren't doing anything to the kernel, it's like living on the edge where you take things dangerously. As a bro, just play with XPOSED and do your best to pimp your stock rom. I had enough for about 15 modules.
However, if you found one that's work, hook me up.

Well a tale from a citizen full of noobs has to be told...
You are among the luckiest person in the world to have an ROW (Registered Original for Worldwide) model of this phone, I assume by you able to flash kernels. We, received models of ALMOST ALL models of Lenovo phone here (Malaysia), that ISN'T SUPPOSEDLY SHIPPED OUT FROM CHINA, shipped here. So EACH (yes, each from a batch of shipping ) phone has a SLIGHT difference in build, firmware, libraries, SystemUI.apk versions, and the difference is, just a little numbers on the file hash that's crucial to it, makes ROMs, recoveries that is designed for that model TOTALLY NOT COMPATIBLE with the phone.
The culprit is this >>
ILLEGAL SHIPPING!
Undercovered by (not confirmed) the GOVERNMENT itself, sometimes...
So, we unlucky fellows stuck with stock ROM and some of them are CRAPPY CHEAP JUNK OF IMPOSTORS that catches the eye of its victim. Original models, ya say, is RIDICULOUSLY PRICEY because of the government's mother-effing TAXES. That's my story.:crying:

[Q] experiences with the different ROMs.....any tipps ?

Hallo here in forum
today i want to flash my "new" htc tytn2. a friend gave it to me as present, because he had his new i-phone.
he told me, that he already flashed a few roms (from xda-dev) on the phone, so i think i can use the "Flashing Your First Kaiser Rom (For Noobs)"-guide from STEP 5 to flash my new baby...... am i right ??
i mean i dont need to do the hardSPL-part, right ?
im just going to doublesheck a few things here, because i dont want to do no mistake.
then he told me, that i just should look witch is the most popular rom (i think he ment the thread with the most posts or clicks.)
i followed his hint and found the "HyperDragon IV Mega"-rom
but then takin a closer look i realised that the links to the rom are down:
"...Admin edit: links removed due to legal complaint from microsoft...."
hmm,....i know it is hard to say "witch is the best rom"...but can anyone give me his special tip.
i think it is not a good way to just take the rom with the most posts in the supportthread, because it is possible, that a rom just lunched and is better than olders, etc.
is there any thread with a list of most popular roms and a discussion about them ???
greetings revnu
105 views and noone has an idea ?
isnt there a list of all roms and a kind of ratingsystem to make it easier for someone to decide wich rom to try out ?

There is unwillingness to do any kind of rating, etc. out of respect for the chefs and their hard work, which is voluntarily done.
I know how it is to come to this scene for the first time. You've read the flashing guide. That's good. Take a look at the various offerings. Consider the features. Read the comments. There are a lot of excellent roms to try. Some are lite, so you can add features to your liking. (probably something you should try later after you become more familiar with the flashing scene) Some are loaded according to the cook's taste. After a few tryouts you might even become a flashing junkie.
Good Success!
ok i understand.
at time i have the black styluz mod. i dont know wich version, but i have to flash a new rom because my version have bugs.
im going to flash the black styluz v5 because i dont have a clue wich rom could be good
but i think there are a few roms out there wich a very popular, because they have win6,5 or other things.
okok i try to tell it in short:
I AM NOT ABLE TO DECIDE WICH ROM TO TAKE BECAUSE THEIR ARE TO MUCH AND THEY HAVE NO STRUKTURE
from my later experiences then flashing older phones i always found such thing is a "list of avabable roms".... is their such a threath ?
sry 4 bad english
"list of available roms" . . . For the most part, that is what this forum is. All Kaiser roms found on XDA are listed here, on a thread by thread basis. You mentioned bugs. . . You'll have problems on many if you don't flash to a stock rom first. Each cook offers the recommended procedure for flashing their rom. Their recommendations are worth following.
ur right....im sry
ill check few roms and decide ma own. till now i had experience with black stylus.
the error i had (could not send sms) was because of my handyprovider...
anyway i now flashed the newest black stylus (full) over the older sylus version......without flashing to a stock rom first. i read the instruktion on his site, but i think i missed the part...
Once you become a little more familiar with things it won't be so troublesome. I hope you will enjoy it. The ol' Kaiser is sinking into the sunset, but it is still a great phone, and many of these roms bring out the best this device has to offer.
Good success to you. . .
There are so many to try? It's good. You will not get bored by your phone!
First, read through the FAQ & Wiki. Even if you don't have to do unlock and HardSPL anymore..
It's very important to read more than do more in the beginning.
Enjoy your TyTn II. I use it as 'PC' and dial into my older SE M600i that acts as bluetooth modem. The reason is that I have bought data plan for that SIM card, and I don't want to swap my current SIM card on my working phone (TyTn II) to older phone, but want to use the internet update from that data plan. Tricky, but it works!
I don't know if any other platform can do the same.

[Q] How to check custom ROM compatibility?

How can I check if a custom ROM is compatible with my phone?
Is it only compatible on a certain phone?
I have a Cherry Mobile Burst, And sadly I can't find a custom ROM for my unit. So I'm asking if there are other custom ROM that I can use??
Thanks!!! :crying:
The only real way is to make sure it specifically states that it IS for your device. If you cannot find one for your device, then you can try to develop one. Even the identical chipset will have different hardware that make the ROMs incompatible.
If it does not say "This ROM is for XXX device" then don't flash it, that's my advice.

I doubt it because there is a lot of work that goes into developing a ROM, like hours and hours, so usually phones that not many people have don't really get it, because why develop for a phone that 20 people own when you can develop for one that thousands or millions of people own.
Keep looking, there may a custom ROM out there, does your phone go by another name? Like an actual model number?

There are no developers that own that device, if they did then there would be ROMs for it.
There is no point in asking or waiting for developers to make ROMs for this device because it will never happen.
You've got a low end device that no one is interested in developing for, you'll have to learn to do it yourself if you want ROMs, that's the only way you'll get ROMS for this device.

[Q] Will any damage happen to the phone if we use the unofficial roms ??

It is pretty safe. If you are worried, wait for other people to try it first
I had a Gnex for two years, running mostly AOKP. You can trust all of the recognized developers here at XDA. If you don't want to risk it, ALWAYS make an nandroid backup.
About the only time you may damage a device is by installing a ROM for a different device. As @justmpm mentioned, if you're having doubts about a particular ROM wait for someone else to post their findings to see then if you wish to try it or not.
Take your time and READ, READ, READ... That is the biggest mistake made around here. People see something they want and just jump in to it without doing any research or doing minimal research. There's in nothing wrong with being cautious.
make a nice backup and go on the safe side!

Hi there.
Yes it is safe as long as
1- You make complete backup
2- Follow proper guide to root and install your rom
3- If you are rookie. Try those roms that have already been tested and running smoothly by others.
Hope that will help you out
Of course bad things could happen also don't forget those same problems could occur with a factory OTA update.
Besides that you could end up with features on your device either gone or broken which I imagine could also happen with a factory rom.
None of them are 100% perfect and safe it is just something you have to accept and take measures before hand to be sure you have backups and/or find knowledge you need to bring your device back from the dead.
These are also all reasons NO ONE should EVER blindly start flashing things to their device without doing some reasearch which is where most problems come from.
Just inform yourself about what you are doing and a lot of things are pretty safe to do or try.
This is about the best advice that could be given I just realized I kinda took the long way around of saying mostly the same thing haha.

Well , If you flash a compatible ROM with your device correctly , nothing will go wrong !
but always take a nandroid backup just in case
the things that can harm your phone most of the time are just kernel related just don't overclock the CPU too much and do your best to avoid kernel tweaks
and every ROM on here has a list of bugs ! so using a custom ROM is totally safe BUT you need to check the bugs list before

No, there's no problem if you flash it properly.....
I have bricked my Gionee GN 100 with a custom rom from another brand but it was the same model. So, take extreme care. I'm also not sure how to fix it. I have some backups but I used only cat. Screen is totally black the phone is technically dead.

Sorry to scare you just giving you realistic info.
Basically flash nothing without researching what you are doing is the biggest point to be taken.
Pretty much what's already been said about making sure the rom is for your specific advice. Usually it's just a soft brick if you flash the wrong rom. The real damage comes using custom kernels the wrong way. i.e. overclocking the cpu/gpu too much. That can cause permanent hardware failure...
I hard briocked my galaxy s3 and had to send it out to to be Jtaged. It was my bad though, just be careful and double check your files prior to flashing. Have ODIN on your computer and be ready to reflash as stock image if you mess somehting up too
I have messed up flashing loads of times and even when I thought my phone(s) was gone for good, I always found a way to bring it back...even if it takes a few hours/days haha...

Announcement , I will drop the support for LG G7

At first hi to all of you , you might know me I made twrp and the first root and patched stuff to be able to run AOSP , so but lately I came to the conclusion that the g7 is just not a good device for devs , so I unrooted installed stock and relocked my boot loader.
From this point of time any given support for the device by me will be ended and never picked up again.
Im sry but if u like the device and want rom etc you need to do it yourself now

Hi, so sad to read this, but thanks for your great work. Can i ask you why you stop with this awesome phone? What is the main problem?
Sorry to hear those news, J0SH1X. Same question as kimo9hero, what did lead to the decision of yours? (If you allow us asking
@J0SH1X thanks for all your work, but I think we're naive if we consider any recent LG phone "developer friendly" since all their latest models were lacking support even from the company (very late updates).
Guys there is hope that we'll see modding and roms for our g7?
I don't think so, without at least one enthusiastic dev it's not possible. There are no resources so any potential dev have to figure everything out by himself, constantly risking to brick an expensive device. Luckily, the stock 10f rom works real well and the hardware is superb. One just risk living without some typical root utilities.
I would be happy for some dev picking it up, but I don't count on it.

You don't actually NEED twrp to flash custom ROMs.
Yeah. CWM and Philz are long since gone. You have any idea how advanced TWRP is? Who should we get on the case and how will we properly incentivize them?

No. I wish. Sadly I'm not a developer, just a flashaholic. Not sure what the point of my post is but maybe it will get some minds thinking. Also discussion about it.
perhaps a payed version of TWRP to incentivise developers?
I'd be ok to pay up to $10 for a working functional supported TWRP
hell, I've donated hundreds if not thousands over the course of years to developers for their work.
I know Blu sparks works on twrp as well, but I am unsure if he owns a p4
I think it's time to put our money where our mouth is and get more Devs working on these projects.

TWRP isn't having funding issues. Lead developer is having a baby and partition logic changed significantly on Pixel 3 & up on Android 10. We don't need to put our money anywhere - we need to be patient or fix it ourselves (far beyond my skill set)
