Downgrade using xperifirm to get the rom, and flashtool to install it, using this guide (note: you'll have to choose a different rom to the one mentioned in that guide):
http://www.xperiablog.net/2015/03/1...peria-lollipop-using-xperifirm-and-flashtool/
OK that's great. What is xperifirm in regards to.the importance of getting the room. I have downloaded 4.4.4 from.another source before I started this thread. Will I not be able to.use thaT? What I mean is is it significant to the process??

No, nothing special about xperifirm; It's just the only place i've ever got a rom from so i know it's legit. as long as flashtool likes your 4.4.4 it should be fine.
So I've coklme across a new problem. When installing the flash program I tried the windows key and r and typed in the stuff needed but I'm not getting what it says on the instructions. Therefor unable to install allbthe drivers. Running Windows 8.1.
I'm lost nnow. Could it be zipped with the drivers pre installed?

Probably need to put a little more detail about what you expect to happen and what's actually happening. (I used windows 7 and it installed without problem, but I think I read that windows 8 required a little more love to get the drivers installed. )

First off it wouldn't download and install all the drivers. So I installed the Sony companion and then when I went to flash the tft file it said unable to extract.ini or such. May just be a bad roM. I'm not at the computer now but I'll try again tomorrow

You have installed the wrong program, Install flashtool from flashtool.net and flash the FTF (not tft) using that
The sony flashtool only works on unlocked bootloader phones, but the original developed here on XDA is far better and works on locked bootloaders as well.
It was an ftf file it just blooming autocorrected. Right I'm going to try again and I'll take shots too

I could've swore I read they stopped it? If so then is there anyway to flash the phone and be able to get the baseband? My co-worker's phone keeps rebooting, etc. I don't want to use the LG Update Tool. I bricked my phone and finally got it unbricked after 5 hours.
you are right T-Mobile already stopped rolling out the OTA.
Your only opportunity to get the new baseband is the LG tool

I used the LG tool about an hour after the update was relesed and it went perfectly smooth. What I did was a factory reset before I did it and I dont know if that mattered but I had no problems. I would do it you really have no choice. I thought I read somewhere that someone is working on a version that you can install from SD but I might be wrong and I dont think you will get the new baseband which in my opinion is one of the best things about the update. It is the only part you cant just flash. If you root you can install any ROM like the leaked one or whatever. So I would use the LG updater. The other thing is I have the LG updater on my computer and it starts automatically and it says that their servers are undergoing maintenance so you cant use that either. I hope this helps you

There are precautions you can take to prevent a bad experience. Most of them are listed on the Forum somewhere. But to recap,
Stock ROM: Install a stock rom. Root does not impact the update, so being rooted is not an issue. Find the Stock Rom and load it.
Standard recovery: Flash the standard recovery. If you are happy with your current rom, do a nand backup first. Then flash the stock ROM.
Factory reset: Throw this in because it can't hurt.
Many of the people that had problems with the LG updater simply did not meet the above steps.
While doing the update, remember, turn off AV, turn off pop up blockers. Turn off FAX programs or any other monitoring program, even screen savers. Do NOT make assumptions. There are several places in the update where the progress appears to stop. Do NOT disconnect. If you have been stopped for a hour, something is wrong. But a few minutes is not out of line. Personally I stopped at 4% for about 5 minutes...then it continued.
Here's the thread to return your device to stock....its pretty good. I can walk through these steps in less than 5 minutes....its really simple. Set your friend up with this.....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1088728
In case you're wondering, the thread above will NOT restore to pure factory like condition. It will NOT restore the original baseband. But all the rest works....its easy to use, simple to follow.....and more than anything else, does not require you to think....only follow. The worst problem people have when doing this is thinking, and assuming. Just follow the steps as is, no ad lib.
Good luck.
I've used the LG Updater on 3 phones, and I haven't had any problems.
I followed this page of instructions from the LG website and had no issues. http://wwwstg.lg.com/us/mobile-phones/G2X-Driver/index.jsp
I used my netbook running Windows 7 Starter Edition.
I just tried updating on the lg website and it says servers down for maintence

That is only the first time it runs after you install it. Click start and go to "LGMobile Support Tool" and run the "LGMobile Update" program. It should run this time without the bogus server down message. If you look at the dates in that notice, the maintenance was back in July. Be sure to right click the program and run as administrator if you are running Windows 7. Make sure you install the drivers from within the updater also, as the other driver pack on their website doesn't seem to install all the drivers you need to complete the update. Good luck.

I didn't have to run as administrator and I used Windows 7. Following the instructions in the link I posted above I had no issues at all. Drivers were installed separately from the updater, again just following the instructions from that link.
Follow LG's instructions word for word, in order, from start to finish, without skipping any steps, and you shouldn't have any issues.

When you ran the program did Windows have a warning box that said this program wants to make changes to your computer, and you had to say yes or no to allow it to continue. That means the program installer set it to admin mode already and Windows confirms you want to run the app as an admin. Without admin mode in Windows 7, programs that flash roms and such simply don't work properly. Looks like LG mitigated a problem by setting the flag during the program install.

Yea it asks for that confirmation. The one I used is version 1.5.2.2
Hi. I`m currently trying to update my G2X to latest version V21y, (2.3.4) with the LG Update tool. But everytime it gets to 4% it stops, and the driver on the computer disables for some reason. On the the screen it says "SW update please wait..." (I`m running win 7 64 bit by the way.) I have found tree different driverpacks from LG site ( LGUnitedMobileDriver_S498MA22_WHQL_ML_Ver_2.2, LGUnitedMobileDriver_S4981MAN37AP22_ML_WHQL_Ver_3.7.2 and LGUnitedMobileDriver_S4981MAN38AP22_ML_WHQL_Ver_3.8.1) but its the same problem when I try with the different driverpacks. Is there any other way to install the update without the LG update tool? I`m tired of having to use the G2X_V21E_00_NVFlash to get back to V21E version everytime it hangs. Maybe a program like G2X_V21E_00_NVFlash with the latest version can fix this? Any help would be very much appreciated!!
Did you try to update it on another computer? Also, I'm not sure but I think only having one driver installed is the best as other drivers may conflict with eachother.

Thanks! I tried on win vista with the same result. I`ve heard XP may be better, but dont have one here. What I ment with the driverpacks is that I installed one at the time (deleted one before I installed another). Hope there is a way to do this on win 7....

One more thing, I had that same thing happen to me, I've updated 4 different G2x's and usually, just trying another time was the cure.

Thanks. I have tried to do this many times on my computer but it fails everytime at the same point. I guess its a conflict problem between the driver and win 7. Why it works on some win 7 is lika a riddle to me, in wich case I dont understand what I`m doing wrong.

It's almost the same as a normal update. With earlier versions of the LG update tool people could do a kdz update with no problems, but I guess LG figured that out and ever since no matter what version of the LG update tool you install, as soon as you launch it it will automatically update itself to the latest version and thus prevent you from using the kdz update (unless of course it was for your specific carrier). That's where the offline update comes in, regardless of what operating system you're using (I did it on windows 7 64-bit). Basically, it blocks LG's connection to your pc, then installs the LG update tool, and a bunch of other little things, then you're good to go. You have to make sure that you are on a stock rom with no custom recovery installed.
If you follow the instructions carefully, you should be fine. If you run into problems, let us know
Hope this makes it a little clearer as to why it doesn't just simply work anymore.

cwm 6.1 for tipo is out. See >>HERE<<
Well, I am unshure to use it.
Will it brick my phone?
My Sony Xperia Tipo is german from Telekom.
- bootloader is locked
- firmware is 11.0.A.0.16
- rooted
Does a locked bootloader block installing CWM or cause trouble in any way?
Are there german users out there who have succesfully installed the mentioned CWM already?

If you're rooted already, you're good to go.I suggest flashing 4.22 though, it is really noticeably better in performance. You can root that with UnlockRoot, and install CWM/TWRP afterwards, whichever you'd like.

Good news. Thank you for your encouraging answer.
As I have so far noticed documentation on this forum, in the case of error doing recover attempts are made with windows software.
I am running linux, if windows is nescessary, does recover software work at a virtual machine running Windows XP with USB piped through? Or is there even linux software to manage that?
And, can you advise a good location I can read and follow instructions in the case of CWM installation problems?
Please excuse my nooby questions, my fone is the very first and only one I could afford and I have no experience so far.
I'd like to prepare as much as I can to avoid having a bricked device asking questions at a lost situation.
Cwm is fine for you take care while flashing a rom though it can cause a mess but dont worry I have been messed up before I got my tipo back running in 17 minuts
I got sollution very quickly and stepwise you are not a noob but I am so just sharing my xperience????

It's hardly brickable by root procedures, the only thing you could've run into was not getting the files copied to system, but since you're rooted you don't have any probs.Just DL the zip from the CWM thread, extract the files in some folder, connect phone with usb debugging on, and double click the start.bat
it will tell you when it's done, you can press any key to continue.at this point, disconnect the phone from the USB cable, power off, then start it up and tap volume down at the Sony logo.

Success!!!
Thank you so much, tusharkulkarni008 and Steam.
There were no errors at all, though I had to fetch an adb executable first which I checked working with "adb shell".
I successfull opened cwm and did my very first full system and data backup!
Splendid, now I am able to do more exciting things with my fone!
So, I learned, installing CWM is nothing but copying files to system partition. It does not depend on an unlocked bootloader, it just needs a rooted fone.
unlocked BL is only required for flashing a custom kernel, which is required for most custom roms around here, they are all based on FXP release,CM10.
Hello, I bought my shield a while back, rooted in KitKat just to get my backup data from apps from my previous device transferred and then happily ungraded to Lollipop with the intention to stay unrooted since it means unlocking the bootloader which may void my warranty. Recently I came upon an app named Helium which I knew nothing about and which seems to be able to backup app data even without root, but to use the no-root version you need to have ADB drivers installed. I found a bunch of sets of ADB drivers, like for example this http://developer.download.nvidia.com/mobile/shield/SHIELDTablet_WHQL_USB_driver.zip but nowhere real instructions explaining how to install them in a Windows 7 PC. I've searched all over the place with no luck so help would be greatly appreciated. I installed drivers for my older device about 3 years ago so I've done it before but I can't remember a thing about it, even if it was a similar method that I had followed.
Thanks in advance, hope someone replies. Help a fellow keep his data backed up please!
Hey there, man.
First of all, neither rooting or unlocking bootloader will void your wartranty, unless the installation you made after that, break the whole tablet in pieces. For example, if you happened to install Windows 8 and it burns.
As for ADB, just read this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317790
Good luck.

When I'm faced with a .zip file, the first thing I do is to unzip it and look at the contents. If there's an installer in there, I just double-click on it ... Sorry if this sounds very basic, but it might not occur to everyone =)
If there's not an installer, you'll probably have to install those drivers through Device Manager. Good luck =)

Ok, I figured it out, I installed via Device Manager after all, I was using a bad set of drivers, apparently some file was missing from them so the DM didn't recognize it as drivers... ugh, such confusion for such a silly little thing! Thank you for your help!

hey everyone, im new here, just got a Samsung s8+ last week. had it rooted and all working well until today, had problems so i went to reflash twrp and when was unticking auto reboot in odin i accidentally ticked "nand erase"..... and i didnt notice until it was too late.
Now i cant get into recovery mode, i can get to the download mode but it wont flash the twrp at all it keeps failing. all i get is a black screen with samsung logo when i try to start it up. i am downloading factory firmware as i write this and going to see if that'll flash. any help will be appreciated.
thanks in advance, hope this is the right place to post it.
Hey
If you can get to download mode, you just install the original firmware from smartswitch,I think you have that option to recover from that program, and install the original firmware.
Or just do it in Odin and find the firmware on SamM.
Lots of work for you,but thats the only thing I can come up with.
Then you have to root it again and everything with it.

Morning Mate,
Smart Switch (and KIES on Win 10) requires some old stuff to work. Install Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86) from https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=5582 My advice however would be to try and flash your carriers stock firmware with ODIN or if you want an easier way you can use KIES by doing the following -
- Install C++ 2008 SP1 from link above to get it to work on Windows 10
- Install KIES www.samsung.com/au/support/usefulsoftware/KIES/ - I'm in Australia so that's my closest but you can still get it from there no worries.
- Also select install 'unified driver' during install if you have not already installed Samsung USB drivers to your PC
- Fire up KIES and from the top menu select 'Tools' and from the drop down menu select 'Firmware Upgrade and Initialisation'
- Enter in your model number - for me it's SM-G955F (make sure model is all in CAPS or it will not work). Now it will present you with a S/N dialog box. This is the tricky part if your phone is bricked. Chances are you have not written down your serial number. You can get your serial number from the back of your phone towards the bottom in really small print, or you can get it from the box it came in from purchase if you happened to have kept that.
- Enter in the serial number and follow the instructions, it's easy as. This will install your stock firmware and you can start again. Provided there is no damage to the phone this method will always get you out of the proverbial as a last resort and it's faster than downloading firmware from updato.com or other places.
The fastest way is by using the SamFirm tool to download but it takes some knowledge and I have lost the link to where I got it (the link at XDA is dead now and refers you to updato.com). The method with KIES above will always work, is fairly fast and pretty easy for the newbies or experienced alike.
Hope this helps, let me know if you need any more assistance :good:
Thanks heaps mate, im also in australia too. have installed all the software and is updating and installing as i write this, all seems to be going well so far, thank you so much your a life saver i was starting to worry as wtf i could do with this brick haha i will keep you posted and let you know if i have nay problems.
