It's not waterproof right? - Sprint Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So my phone's bottom port attachment is broken off....so I'm guessing it's not longer water proof right?
If so, then how do I make it water proof again? It's not like I can buy another port attachment thingy and plug it in.

The S5 is water-resistant, not water-proof, but you can get a replacement charging port cover for a few bucks. Here's the link: http://www.witrigs.com/oem-usb-cover-flap-for-samsung-galaxy-s5-sm-g900f
Disregard that it says it's for the 900F, they're all the same.

It's also very easy to fix.

Galaxy S meets Palm Touchstone

I've modded my Galaxy S to work with the Palm Touchstone to wirelessly charge.
As you can see the mod fits quite nicely beneath the battery cover.
If there are people interested in the mod i am going to post a short tutorial how i did it.
w w w. youtube . com/watch?v=9JfJaIWWX-Q
(sorry but i'm not allowed to post lnks yet)
very interesting
but your video didn't show what you put inside the phone to make it charge, without a plug, as seen on most other wireless charger sold in stores
did you open up the phone and soldered something into the PCB ?
Can you upload some pics of how you've managed to fit the touchstone coil into the backplate of the SGS ?
If it's a neat enough job this will be an excellent mod
you could use the method in this instructable:
http://www.instructables.com/id/Samsung-Epic-4g-Inductive-Charger/
an even better mod would be having the backplate/battery case make contact with 2 pins/contacts glued to the back of the phone under battery cover near the camera.
well i'm searching for the palm touchstone now so i can start modding!

There's plenty of touchstones and back plates kicking around on eBay for about 30 notes, now it's just a matter of combining this with the resistor details to make it trigger the desired dock mode when it's placed on there

Well, thats basically what i did, execpt i soldered the "minus" cable to the ground contact pin for the battery.

I'm thinking about doing this, that way I could switch back to the original cover with ease, if I shall ever need the compass

Does it affect the compass all the time or only while charging ?
I thought there were magnets in the touchstone backcover but it turns out that its just steel, so compass works when the phone is not on the station.
Well hell this is nice man !
lol, wish i could use my toothbrush charger
Any problems with this mod so far? I like that very much.
But I'm still concerned about blowing up the battery... I don't want to ruin the battery by overcharging it
i guess its just a matter of time when your phone will do a trick like blows uo your battery or even causes short conectivity
here's a smiliar vid ,

Desktop Dock?

Does anyone know of a good desktop dock that will work with the S5?
I have the Samsung dock that worked great with my S3 and S4 but the stupid USB port cover on the S5 gets in the way.

I'm using this: http://www.ebay.ca/itm/331131359015?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649
You can set the S5 on it and it will charge and be firmly in place because the charging pin is very high, but obvisouly, the charging port cover has to be flipped 180 degrees and i'm scared that i the long term it will break off. Thats why i switched back to just a regular cable

Yeah, the connector for that charger cover doesn't strike me as super durable.
I guess I could take a dremmel to the part of the dock on the left side of the charging pin and make some room for the port cover. It won't look great but at least I could probably have a workable dock and not be worrying about breaking that cover off.
Thanks!

If you're the type of person that thinks paying 50$ for a dock that is made for 1$, just because it's branded, is the way to go, then sure. But I had this since august and it's as solid as day 1, for under 10$, you can't go wrong. Heck, you can even buy 2 and experiment with a dremel if you want at that price

Sorry, I meant the charging cover on the phone isn't durable. That dock locks plenty solid. I was just thinking that I'd have to cut it up a little to alleviate the stress on the USB port cover.
Ahh, i see. I agree on one side, but on the other, i can't believe Samsung have not opened and closed that little cover thousands of times before slapping it on the S5. Samsung have good stress tests that tend to make our phones very durable. It would be a major screw up to put a fragile door on a phone that depends on that for its IP67 certification. Only time will tell, but I think i'll take out the dremel too and try to make the dock as S5 friendly as possible:fingers-crossed:

Yeah, I thought about that too -- the door doesn't look too durable but then I thought that it had to have been a requirement of the IP67 certification for it to be relatively sturdy. I owned the XPeria Z1 and the S5's door seems about as durable. Time will tell, I guess.
I'm kind of annoyed that they didn't consider charging pins, that would have opened up charging $50 for a new branded dock.
I'm going to source a replacement back and wire up the induction charge points to pads on the back, then build a dock for it.
It's kind of silly requiring you to open the usb protector every night to charge it. (And I hate wasting power on induction charging)

Would love to hear how its working as I have been looking for a dock that will also charge a spare battery. Do you have any issues with the usb cover? Work with a case? The usb cord is very short, are you using a different one?
Thanks for posting this.

Someone needs to make a q wireless charging standing desktop dock.
Here's another dock. And I have yet to figure out how they are putting an S5 into a dock without ripping the USB cover off the phone first. That cover does NOT bend back enough for the phone to sit flush. So wth?!?!

Here's another that makes it look like the cover bends back 90 degrees.

I like the Ppyple Swivel Charge
I have had this one for a while and I like the fact that the plug for this is just the end of a usb cable locked into place. I have been able to reverse it when I had a phone that docked backwards and now I have put to USB3 cable that came with the phone right into it so I get the best it can do.

seeing the picture with the flap folded back, it seems like it would be a fight every time, and no chance of that flap folding that way with a case on, it would then point down ??
loved my s3 on a dock at my desk, time and weather.

Short Air Dock review

Did a short Air Dock review - I got it for my GS5, but since Samsung is taking their sweet time releasing the wireless charging cover I had to test with the N7. Anyways, here it is for anyone interested:

Can you comment on how well it holds a phone while driving around? I would hate to take a turn and have it fly off out the window.

The magnets combined with the sticky surface of the charger makes it nearly impossible to fall off by accident. I think there is a better chance the entire mount will fall before the phone comes off due to a bump.

The dock comes with a single magnetic sticker, so I will need to wait until the wireless cover is released so I can place it on that. I used the N7 because it already has magnets integrated.

I am wondering how the charger performs when your phone is using bluetooth to stream music, GPS, WiFi, etc
Thanks for the video. I really appreciated.
after using the GS5 with just the sticky pad and no magnets, it's pretty clear that the magnets are required - it just doesn't hold that well after a few uses. They send a little magnet sticker that I put on the inside of the wireless charging cover (that I received today), and it works great.

Not sure I understand the question. Are you asking if you can split the sticker and use it on two devices? Then, no. If you're asking will the sticker fit either one device or the other? Then yes. I had to cut it to a smaller size to fit the inside cover of the GS5.

Z3 Magnetic Connectors Not Similar

I Just Noticed Something.. The Magnetic Connectors on the Z3 are not Similar..
One Nub is Circular whereas the other one is more elliptical..
Is that Normal? or is that a Defect in My phone..
I noticed a 3rd Party (Crappy) Connector i Bough also has the same kind of Mold.
I Have Included a Pic in the attatchments.. just wanted to make sure it is an intended Thing than A Defect in my Phone.
I just checked mine and its the exact same as yours. I don't have a charger though. My charger flap is starting to show signs of fatigue, not sealing and lose

Yep, meant to be different. I'd assume so that it will only fit one way

Maybe you could use something like Sugru to mold your own covers. You'd want to make sure that it won't adhere - may have to spray in a release agent or something. However, I have already gotten my phone submerged a few times and as long as you let either port dry out completely they still work just fine. Since they're not mechanically designed to seal like they were on other Z handsets, it will be tough to get a perfect seal anyway.

Ty for response I feel it would help to give some extra protection,
I was thinking to 3d model some USB and 3.5 mm fitters to "seal them" adding some masking tape should do the trick I believe

Salt water can transmit electricity and could.cause a short circuit, i think Sony just did that to protect himself from being sued, as the USB was covered on previous installment,
