ChromeOS and Chromecast both set a new random wallpaper using some brilliant database. I can't seem to find this feature in Android...?

Your favorite Live Wallpapers?

Hey everyone,
Browsing through the marketplace or a website for Live wallpapers is a pain, and I'd like to have a lot more than I currently do. How about you guys share some of your favorites? Maybe even include a mobile friendly link if you're feeling frisky?
Thanks!
I use 'wallme'.
You set folders in your gallery to be set as a wallpaper sideshow.
Many options available such as duration, transition, zoom, fade etc.

Aquarium is nice the free version doesn't let you customize how many/what type of fishes and other things but it's pretty cool IMO.

Oh man Light Grid is amazingly mesmerizing, and so customizable its crazy.
i've been using video live wallpaper for ages now. my fav has always been this video of the internal working clock. it fills up the whole screen with moving gears similar to what you would inside the watch. what i normally do is go to youtube and download a vid of my choice. this way i can always keep changing my wallpaper. i have mirror lights, particles, ink on water, the beach, rain, pug licking my screen, etc.
Can you explain in a little more detail how you rip these YouTube videos to be able to use them as wallpapers?

pretty easy. i don't have the link right now as it's in my laptop at home. but basically you can google it and several websites come up for saving youtube clips. what happens is you open the site in one window/tab. in another tab you have youtube open. so say you typed in the search field (of youtube) for clockwork. several video clips will come up. click on one and copy the http address as seen in the field above. paste this into the search field of the youtube video download site. once clicked, you'll get several format opitons. by far the most common are mp4 and flv. fortunately, video wallpaper plays both. save the file and transfer it to your phone.
from your phone, open video wallpaper. go to the menu screen and choose the video you want to play. presto! instant wallpaper.
btw, i noticed that some wallpapers are off-centered. if you're using adw launcher, click on the menu and bring up scrolling wallpaper option. this way you can choose which parts of the video wallpapers shows what detail. i think this should work as well with the default launcher.
hope that helps.

Changelog: 2nd post
LocalCast 2.0.3:
New features:
- Subtitles:
Start a movie, then either hit 'Add subtitle' or just go back and open the Folder view. Navigate to your subtitle and touch it. You can toggle the subtitle on the 'Now playing' screen.
- Rotation:
Pictures and Videos can be rotated in 90° steps
- Zoom:
Pictures and Videos can be zoomed in & out.
- Artist: & Albums:
The music category got 2 new tabs for Artists and Albums
- Paste Link:
You can now paste every link in the App. Instead of blindly searching a video link and playing it, all links to videos will be displayed. You can choose to play it or queue it. This works for links that get shared with the app, too.
- TV Layout:
I don't use a ready made receiver app by Google anymore, but a custom one, where I had to build everything myself, so it looks different. To avoid burn in on Plasma and other TVs, when only music is playing, the background changes and the cover moves.
- Subtitles + SMB:
I forgot to handle subtitles from smb shares. So an easy fix for now is: copy the subtitle to your device. Start the movie from your smb share and add the subtitle.
Thanks! Downloaded and works like a charm on my nexus 7 2013.
If you continue with this, could you possibly add subtitle support?
EDIT: How does the app screen for videos? There are a couple that didn't show up, but they're unplayable with Avia/Real Player Cloud as well. Does the app only show videos that are compatible with the ChromeCast?
You sir are my hero
I would say I love you but then my wife might get jealous
PS: Subtitles support would be quite awesome
PS2: Haven't downloaded the app and I'm already waiting for incoming updates and in love with it
EDIT
It's working like a charm but I would like to ask for a feature if it's possible.
Right now the app scans the memory for video files which is great BUT, it's a bit of a mess if you have several videos from whatsapp, downloaded files, camera files, etc.
Would it be possible to separate the files per folders like "Whatsapp videos" Camera Videos", etc... Like how the gallery works.
Also, it would be awesome to be able to also show the pictures and not only the videos... I know is a lot to ask for, but that would make the app perfect...
Also, as I said, the app is working awesomely
I can use this app but, it doesn't detect all of my video files. It detects 1 or 2 in the same folder and same format and permissions and everything but, doesn't detect the others. What can I do?

D/l'd. And was about to test...but my stomach started growling. I would love music, screencast and pics as well. Would be a total hit.
Anyone know if there is a app that allows us to implement or own wallpapers into chromecast yet?
Nice app, good coding, but.....,from my point of view it wil need more work on format suport, "local" will also need to include a local NAS. On controling video play back it will also need a way to jump, fast forward,
Again good coding and thanks

Live Channels Now Including Apps!

I just happened to update the pluto.tv app today. I happened to notice on the Leanback launcher that there was a "Live Channels" icon/banner. When I started "LIve Channels", it gave me the option to include pluto.tv as a source for channels! I looked at the Google I/O schedule and apparently this will be discussed this "feature" tomorrow. This gives me hope for the future of Android TV!

Awesome! Cord cutters rejoice.
Endgadget did a quick blurb about it. Looks like early content providers include: "AOL, Bloomberg, TED, The Huffington Post, Pluto, Vevo and European streaming video service Zattoo."
I wouldn't mind if Hulu, CBS News, & some of the other networks built on top of this platform...
I just tried it today with Pluto and I think it just blew my mind with what I suddenly realised was possible with this framework. It does turn a app into an almost TV watching like experience. Just need more apps to now take advantage of it.
Edit:
I notice I have Ted, Vevo and the Huffington Post but none of these are options to add to Live channels. Can't find Zattoo on the Nexus player even though I am in the UK and it has a troubleshooting page on their website.
Wasn't it like that before? not on nexus but on my forge I could select HDhomeRun View to select my source for live-tv channels.
I didn't see any update to Live Channels app I think it was like that already.
I love the overall concept but I hope they improve the stability of Live Channels. Right now Live Channel stutters when changing Pluto TV "Channels."
I am really tempted to pick up an HDHomeRun Extend so I can add real channels meshed with internet based channels.
In the ideal world, I would love to have SlingTV, CBSNews, WatchESPN, FoxSportsGo, & potentially other services like Hulu & USA integrate into live channels. This way, I have one channel "guide" to view all the "channels."

Can you launch videos through the actual pluto app or do you not get any videos their either?
Videos played through the app work fine, just not in the channels icon.
I've heard that a new firmware is imminent for it, maybe that will be based on 5.1 and will fix my casting and this streaming channel problem.
Can the live channels app be ported to mobiles? Been looking for an epg that uses iplayer uktvplay itvhub etc so you can click whatevers on and it opens instead of having to look through all the afromentioned apps.

Apps for Google Live Channels App

Hi Guys,
are their any other apps downloadable which can be used with the live channels app from google than:
Pluto TV - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=tv.pluto.android
HDHomeRunTV - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.silicondust.mg.upnp
Zatoo - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.zattoo.player
Cumulus TV - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.felkertech.n.cumulustv
The Weather Network -
InstaTV - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.keyitech.instatv.pro
I think the thread could also be a collection of all apps which support live channels.
ProgTV! If you have a Hauppage or similar card that connects an antenna into a computer, you can stream channels to your nexus player! Much cheaper than spending 200+ dollars on an HDHomerun
Hi sheikboy, prog TV isn't supporting the live channels app. I can't see any possibility to add it there.

I think this is a good idea since google does no tell you what is compatible with live channels.
Apps
The Weather Network, HDhomerun, pluto, and instaTV
The weather network and pluto are streaming and put channels directly into Live Channels and instaTV requires HDhomerun be installed.
Hope this helps. And looking forward to see if theres other apps out there.

I can share an example. I only have german tv stations in it and they are geoblocked, so it may not work for you:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B8NrUksLGljUU29YbmYzOVYtR2c/view?usp=sharing
Playlist import and xmltv EPG support is on the roadmap.
It forces close upon opening on my end!
Thx guys for your anticipation. The cumulus app doesn't work really well for me, but the app uses the live channels app and if the app is finished it could be a great app.
Hey, Cumulus dev here. I have fixed some stability issues and added playlist import capabilities. EPG support is sort of there but not fully integrated yet.

The cast a lot is more focused on movies, so maintains a database of files which have been downloaded from upnp, or attached using IMDB. This allows it to show a movie-centric view of the content it is managing.
It doesn't currently have support for apple TV, or ROKU.
