Sim card in Amsterdam - Verizon HTC One (M8)

Hey everyone, quick question.. going on a last minute trip for a couple days to Amsterdam probably Sunday or Monday....Anyone know if my VZW M8 will work in Amsterdam if I were to pick up a pre-paid sim over there for mainly data and some airtime in case i need to make calls? Anyone have experience doing this? any recommendations on carriers over there? Thanks

The VZW M8 is SIM unlocked so it SHOULD work, KPN, Vodafone and T-mobile are probably the three largest providers there.

Thanks dude

[Q] Americans, whats the best phone plan for a 4 week road trip in the USA?

Hello americans (and others) on XDA!
I'll be going for a 4 week road trip around USA in about 2 months and wonder which carrier and plan to choose. I guess I'll go with a pre-paid one but I don't really know which carrier who have the best coverage and so on. I want at least 2GB of mobile data for a maximum of $45.
EDIT:
Btw, I'm from sweden.
If you want good coverage you'll have to go with Verizon. And its not cheap. TMobile is, but you'll lose HSPA when out of most cities.

Ok, then I guess that it's safe to assume that I can buy a pre-paid Verizon card at the airport in San Fransico.
Not sure if you can buy a pre-paid verizon card at the airport but verizon is the best choice for service if your going to be on the road a lot. Check out the website and see where you can get the cards or see if you can set it up before you arrive. If you can't get it at the airport I would assume there are 20-30 stores for verizon in San Francisco.
Besides SF where will you be going?
In northern California it seems to me Sprint and Verizon have the best coverage while AT&T is still acceptable but not as good. Unsure about T-Mobile.

[Q] Traveling to Germany - Advice Needed

I have a Nexus 5 on Sprint right now. Their data and voice plans in Germany are kind of insane. I was thinking of getting a SIM overseas and throwing it into my Nexus 5.
Any recommendations on who to use as a carrier? What it might cost? and Anything special I might need to know about my Nexus 5?
I originally had it active on T-Mobile, but to move it to Sprint I had to factory reset. I am assuming I may need to do that overseas.
Also, I know T-Mobile has some insane plan for personnel using their post-paid plan, does anyone know if they have a sim setup for their pre-paid that includes the International data/voice calling?
I tried searching but didn't find anything that matched what I was looking for!
Thanks in advance!

I'm also on Sprint and you're right, their rates are skyhigh.
I spent most of my summer in Berlin last year as part of a study abroad program. Since I'm not sure where you are going I can't exactly recommend the best service for your area. However Telekom and O2 have very good service across Germany and across most of Europe. Without a German bank card (EC Karte) your options are kind of limited. You will only be able to have a prepaid plan. I went with O2 as they had great service in Berlin and they had a very inexpensive roaming plan for when I was in Poland. I went with the O2 Smart Loop plan. For about 40 Euros a month you can get 3GB of data, 100 minutes (0.09/min thereafter), and sms. Since I was using mostly data and was only going to make calls in an emergency this plan worked for me. Also in Germany you are not charged for incoming sms or calls, so anyone can call you and you are not billed, they are.
The N5 should work just fine on any network in Germany. I used an N4 last year (purchased it just for the trip and sold it to buy an N5) and had no issues. I did swap sims with several friends and I never had to reset my device. Just had to select the new apn and go from there. It was very simple.
In regards to T-Mo, they only allow the international text/data if you sign up for a post-paid Simple Choice Plan. The calls are a flat rate 0.20/min. Looking through their prepaid plans I can't find anything that allows international use. :/
That is great info. Thank you much!

International Travel Getting a SIM Card

I'm in the USA and travelling to Europe for a week and a half. Both my wife and I have unlocked phones (LG G3 and HTC 10). In the past, I've had T-Mobile so I got away with 2G data and free SMS but now that I no longer use their service I'm wondering what my options are this time around?
How does it work when I get to the other country if I want data/SMS there? How do these whole "pre pay" things work and buying a SIM from another country. I'm new to this.
We'll be going to Ireland if that helps.
no one travels international and cares to help/comment?

FRD-L04 Users, what carriers do you guys use?

I just ordered a few of these and will be dropping sprint. This will be my first time going to a GSM carrier. Locally here out of the big 4 we have AT&T and T-Mobile. The T-Mobile service apparently sucks here, so I'm going to bypass. In regards to MNVO carriers, we have Cricket, Metro PCS, or Straight Talk to choose from. Do any of you guys seem to have any issues, using this phone, with any of the mentioned carriers?

I've had Cricket for 2 years now, and I have zero complaints..other than that freak like 11 hour or so service outage a while back. Besides that, A+ 4G LTE, love the no contract, the myCricket app, the Cricket Visual Voicemail app, and they have great support. Your Cricket sim will work as soon as you pop it in. I've had both my fiancé and I on the $50 5GB/mo. plan since I started with them..and I actually only pay $45 for each line each month because they knock $5 off ea. line amount for having a multi-line account. Also, when I just paid my November bill last week I was shocked to see that they changed their $50 5GB/mo. plan to 8GB/mo., they also have the Unlimited plan too. But either way, really it's whatever you "need" in that dept..I am a bit of a phone "nut", and have been on every major network and Metro and Boost in the past..and none compare to the overall service+price total package you get from Cricket. As I'm writing this, I feel I should make sure that I say that I do not work for Cricket nor am I getting paid or receiving anything in exchange for this comment lol..just honestly really love the network (which is really just AT&T) and am more than happy to pass on my great experience. Anyway, good luck with the search and enjoy your Honor 8..love that too! Lol ?
I'm in the Philly area with MetroPCS. I generally get 25/25Mbps down/up speeds and good coverage.
at&t go.
Bouygues Telecom in France
I use rogers in Ontario, Canada. I have no issues.
Am using AT&T and have to say no issues drove from South Carolina to New York and not once did I loose signal.
Cricket: Noticed that I never received a text this afternoon.

Use the pin to open the tray, pop in your nano SIM card, push the tray back and GO. (I used T-Mob pay as you go before changed to another one Cricket)

If T-Mobile sucks for you don't go with MetroPCS. It is owned by T-Mobile and uses the same network. It will also give you a lower priority than T-Mobile customers. Straight Talk uses either of the 4 main networks depending on which you choose.

Did you buy a new sim card or can you get them for free? I currently have a mini that was cut down to a micro and now, I am thinking of just buying or "getting" a nano from AT&T for this phone. Would they transfer everything for me or how does it work? Thanks in advance!

I cut it myself.
You could buy new one or go to their local store requesting one and ask for "transferring".

Np.
Any GSM network should be fine. Sounds like you got something weird going on. If it makes any difference, my phone says 4G LTE, not the standard LTE I've seen on every other phone.
T-mobile
ATT. Works perfectly.
