How bad is the Samsung s6 battery? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S6

Coming from a Samsung S4, I'm considering getting the S6 but I have heard peeps online complaining about how poor the battery is. The Samsung S4 has a 2600mah battery and the Samsung has 2550mah. I want to know you guys opinion on usage. Thanks

+1. No consistency for me at all. The last day for me has been better than my note 4... couple days ago it was horrendous. YMMV

I think its great. After all the bad reviews I was quite shocked at what im getting. And the quick charge is perfect. Super fast.

I'm getting around 14hrs and about 5hrs of sot. I'm a moderate user

Battery is fine. People tend to run crap apps and then blame the hardware. If you have not had a new phone for a few years then this is a much better device all around.

I would say that even on a bad day it's more capable than the S4.

It's bad. Very bad.

It is not bad at all. What do you guys do with your phones lol

New s5. Coming from gs3

Debating so much about getting this phone and finally gave it about 2 hours ago. Is anyone else not that impressed? Don't get me wrong its a nice phone and the camera is supposed to be great..but I gave up unlimted to get this and my s3 with a custom KitKat ROM is way faster just navigating around..I dropped it and cracked the screen the other day but I might go back to it. Just don't see this as much of an upgrade..if the one m8 had this screen I would have gone with that. Even the s3 feels more durable than this..

Not an improvement over the S3? I came from an S4 with MDK unlocked bootloader and haven't looked back, even without root. I do miss the hell out of root, don't get me wrong, but this phone is definitely an improvement. My stepson has my S4, so I could go back any time I want, but I'm not even entertaining that option. Not to mention the battery life on this thing... couldn't kill it with 17 hours off of charge and over 6 hours of screen on time (mostly gaming, too... my day off, don't judge lol.) My S4 with a custom ROM, and tweaked for battery life, couldn't even dream of that. To each their own, but I'm not quite sure how this wouldn't be a noticeable upgrade. Perhaps I should borrow your S3 to find out?

Idk. I haven't had a chance to test the battery yet. It was at like 55% when I got exactly 2 hours ago..screen has been on an hour of the 2 and I'm at 36%.
Honestly I can't help but feel my s3 with the right ROM (currently on MOAR right now) is faster just with general use..I'm not saying this phone isn't amazing just doesn't seem like the one to give up uimited data for. I can't even open the charger port cover lol.. I started with the original droid x and went through the long months of people trying to root and unlock the boot loader..then to the s3 with it unlocked..it seems with both of those phones there was more of a presence in the forums..I wonder if this will ever get rooted..I alrady know unless it gets leaked like it did for the the s3 the bootloader is out of the question

I got rid off my galaxy s4 with mdk build, I enjoyed most of available roms out there. I upgraded to s5 and I think it is very good phone, better camera, faster processor, and many more. However, if I were you, I wouldn't give up unlimited data, I'd just buy used s5 from Craigslist and keep unlimited data.
IMO, Your reasons for not liking is has more to do with what you gave up to obtain it and you're expecting it to be as good as what you gave up. I went from S3 to S5, and I think the S5 is great outside of the lack of root issues (like bloatedness, etc)
I went from the S3 (stock, unrooted) to the S5 also.
I do see some improvements, like the screen, for example, which is noticeably better. It's also a bit bigger, which is nice, as I'm getting old and can't see as well as I used to
I had the 3000mah extended battery on the S3, and it seems to me that the S5 has about the same battery life as the S3 with the extended battery.
Not sure I see much of a speed difference. The S5 is maybe a tad faster, but in day to day use, I don't really notice all that much of a difference.
In general, I do think the S5 is a better phone. But, I do agree that the S5 is not a revolutionary change. In fact, in a lot of ways, it seems just like my S3. That's not necessarily a bad thing, as the S3 was a great phone.
I made the move to the S5 mostly because I wanted the fingerprint sensor. It works pretty well, though I would argue not as well or as refined as the sensor in my daughters Iphone 5S. But it does the job, and overall I am happy with it.
I did buy an aftermarket Qi wireless charger, which is a neat trick also, but I believe they were available for the S3 also.
In summary, I'm happy with my purchase. Not revolutionary, but a decent evolution of the S3.
Please discuss in the sticky for upgrading
Thanks

[Q] İs it worth to buy Nexus 5 ?

Hello, nowadays I am planning to buy new phone, and Nexus 5 is in my options.According to you is it worth to buy it now ?.Nexus 5 is nearly 2 years old,and I am planning to use my new phone at least 3-4 years.Performance and battery are priority.
Well worth buying - even today it has great spec for very affordable price. Fantastic screen, great battery and most importantly - pure Android 5.1 which comes with huge community.

Totally agree with this. I was thinking about swapping mine but in terms of spec and upgrades there is nothing else - well the Nexus 6 but that is just way too big.

Show me those everybody ?! Because I have removed over 200mg of unwanted apps/gapps, I`m on 5.1
just get it! N5 is a great phone. :good:
The battery is Underpowered, other than that, a good device. Just don't pay full retail, I would pay full retail in Nov '13 but not in April' 15
I've got one and I'm looking for another as a spare, as others say it's a great phone. Mine outscored the S5 on antutu) The only phone I'd change it for is the rumoured Nexus 5B.
The battery is not grt which is why I replaced it. They all loose about 20%a year. As someone else said get rid of unless apps and it is OK. I'm on # lite rom# which comes with about 4apps)

Try some LSD and there will be no battery issues! And the Nexus5 will blow your mind!
Yeah the battery is bad compared to the flagships (and even some similarly priced phones lol) but a solid device that definitely offers bang for the buck performance.
Out of the box, its a fantastic phone but let down by the battery. If you are comfortable with rooting and replacing kernels etc, this can be addressed.
On the other hand, look at the LG G2. The battery if fantastic without any modding and most of the bloat, even a noob like me can disable. Speed wise, I'd say its 20% slower than the Nexus 5.
If just comes down to how dirty you want your hands to get.
To give you a comparison, I've had both running the same apps and this is what I got battery wise for my typical usage, (my signal is also very poor.)
- Nexus 5, Standby time=40h, Screen on time=2:30h
- LG G2, Standby time=80h, Screen on time=2:30h
Just remember that everyones usage and signal strengths are very different.

Great performance but poor battery not future proof if you want to use it for 3-4 years
desire 820 is a good option
I think 2300 mah is sufficient under normal circumstances.Galaxy Alpha has 1800 mah but I didnt hear any problem about battery or s6 has 2550 mah which is nearly as same as N5.Then, why N5 battery is insufficient compared to other phones also using stock android ?

Yes, the G2 has the same SOT as the N5 in my experiment. However, the standby time was DOUBLE.
In my days of the N5, I couldnt trust it to wake me up in the morning if the battery was below 30% at bed time, (as sometimes my signal is really bad in my flat.) On the G2 however, it can be as low as 15% and has yet to let me down.
If I had to pick between the G2 and N5 to last me the next 2 years, it would be a tough decision but I'd go with the G2. I dont think either of these phones would be good for 4 years though. :crying:
Nexus 5 is a great purchase. The only thing it seems to not be future proof against are high intensity games and higher resolution streaming options that may come our way. As a daily phone, I can't imagine needing much more power than what it's got.
In fact, I purchased a N5 back in November 2013. It started failing two months ago (this was a first-run version with the old ceramic buttons prone to breakage). I upgraded to an LG G3 - the G3 is a gorgeous phone, but I kept wanting my old Nexus 5 back. After a week I bought a new N5 on amazon and returned the G3. I have no regrets.
If anything can be a perfect phone for power users, this is it.

Help me switch from ios

Hi huys!
Long time since i last was here!
I currently own an iphone 6 and since i am bored out of my mind with it i want to go back to the android side..
Main hripes with iphone 6..
-horrific battery life
-low wifi signals
-mediocore camera
I was considering gs6, but i wanted to ask how is battery life for you guys since i hear they dropped mah from gs5..will it be better or worse than my iphone 6?depending on that i might shoot for note 4, since note 5 wont be coming to europe, sadly.
The second question is, will i be able to keep my itunes library and keep buying from itunes somehow from within the gs6?(some app or so?)
Thank youuu!

as for your second question, you can transfer up to 100000 songs from ios to Android. so you should have no problem there. Your first question is harder to answer. As far as battery life goes, my s6 edge gets up to five days of battery life. however, most of what I have read online from other users is it's battery is no better and no worse than the galaxy s5. I would still recommend it over any other phone on the market.

Granted, gs6 battery life is not great, would you say it is better than that of the iphone 6? Really the only reason i haven't already made the move..still considering galaxy note 4 over gs6 just for the battery!

No i always go with stock..plus, to my understanding, tripping knox is permanent, so that is a big no-no
Well, then you will not be pleased with the stock overall performance of the GS6, if you switching from the iP6. At least the expereience for me was bad and I switched from the Oneplus One. Poor battery (somewhat OK on WiFi), not smooth UI and lags when a few apps open. However this was on the BOG 5.1.1 firmware. It felt like a completely new phone when I gave up on knox and flashed a custom ROM and kernel. And everybody said the same here on the forums.
Looks like i will be going for the note 4 then..i really wish we could get the note 5 in europe..
I wouldn't even consider Samsung for use as a stock device. TouchWiz is ridiculous. Samsung has all kinds of bloat apps for things Google incorporates into android naturally. Updates are so slow and stock battery experience is never great. That's not to say there aren't any good features but if you're coming from an iPhone, I would wait for the next gen of phones or get the one plus 2, or go with Sony for the beautiful cameras.
You greatly overestimate the iphones..they seem stable but its only because they do so very verry little.they are just as full of bugs and crashes as the next thing..itune syncs/restores/updates are a regular russian roulette.you dont do updates unless you are a daredevil-they usually break more than they fix and most of them rape battery life.i had no gripe at all with my last android (gs2) which was on full stock besides bad batt..and i had that for 2 years..as to your remark, sony phones are good but have washed out screens..i am almost set on galaxy note 4..

pretty funny haha.. after the Note 7 everyone was wishing these phones had removeable batteries.. not to mention batteries can die..
also, the S5 had a removeable battery and water resistance and micro sd card lol so it pretty much nullifies all of his idiot comments
i think the design is great and feels great as well as with rear fingerprint i have my screen unlocked before phones even outta my pocket lol
I like removable battery because if the battery malfunction I can replace it. Where as the battery in a sealed unit like my HTC M7 one phone my battery pack swelled and I had a useless phone. Because no way I could replace the battery. So I would gladly give up waterproofing for this option to extend a phones life and useability.

That piece most certainly looks like the guy was given the phone for 2-5 minutes and then told to fill column inches.
IF water proofing is this guys main concern with a phone he's got issues lol.
If LG came out with root or a program to remove unwanted software the phone would be perfect.

I read that article yesterday also and really wanted to comment. I don't think all these reviewers realize not everyone is within arms reach of an electrical outlet 24-7. When I'm not working I'm on the lake or in the woods. I have yet to come across a charging station and usually my phone is working overtime through GPS tracking and trying to keep even the slightest cell signal. Ive went through 2 batteries in the woods before with the note 4.

I don't consider the S7 Edge and Note 7 to be a casual user phone. That being said I would rather have the ability to cycle various batteries, than use the same battery every day. These batteries are very inexpensive technologies now, and their capacities are bigger than ever. It seems there is no logical reason to limit the user to one battery given how thin LG have managed to produce a removable battery phone now. Well water resistance would be one reason but there are cases for that. Myself, when biking I use a sandwich sized zip lock bag.
Works great I keep my ability to swap batteries.
The reviewer is an idiot though, I hate these "reviewer's" who are not prepared to give another device a chance, to them every phone must be like an iPhone or Galaxy, and when that does happen they cry about copying.
He is complaining about what makes the phone unique, lol.

if you are actually using your phone with the screen on for more than 6-8 hours each day then the battery is sufficient

lol not saying its impossible.. actually saying the v20 can have just as good battery life.. keep in mind i watch a lot of videos and gaming on my device among other normal tasks, always installing new apps and trying things out with lwp, 3d/360 wallpapers etc.
i typically have 10+ apps running at any given time either downloading stuff or just not closing stuff out.. im sure i could squeeze 8+ hours sot if i wanted lol
This is why I have one of these if I am not near a plug. I can charge my phone most likely 6 times off it. Came in handy at Disney 2 weeks ago. Kept a s7 edge and 2 s7 active phones charged all day and the rest of the night till we left at 1 am charged for us

I am a bit of a stickler when it comes to Battery Life, so I wanted the best I could get. The V20 is a beast, no denying it, the review this guy did actually did not it any justice, and whoever said it sounds like he had the phone for a few minutes is right, he did not even cover battery usage, or give a more thorough idea of what the phone is like to live with day to day.

My opinion of the s9+ moving from a Galaxy s5

Hey all,
I wanted to make a quick rundown of my review of the s9 so far. I have the sm-g965u on T-mobile, I moved from a TMo Galaxy s5 that was rooted with a 7800mah battery. At it's peak i'd get about 3-4 days with moderate use but with 1 gig of ram moving to the s9 is a huge improvement. The speed of this phone is unbelievable. It's incredibly snappy.
My biggest issue is the battery life at this point, my battery info shows at 3500 mah but I can barely finish a day with light use with full battery. I never had this idle drain with my s5. It's 10:28am here and after 46 minutes of screen time, 23 minutes of waze i'm down to 86%!
I'm hoping once root and roms start getting pushed out for the U variant things start improving or Samsung fixes some stuff.
I am also coming from S5 and used it with the battery that came with it, 2800mAh I guess, charge it twice a day at least to keep it running, I have heard the same about S9+, the battery can only keep a day running. Samsung will definitely fix these issues in an update. Not sure when that will happen though.
Btw does the size bother you? S9+ is taller than S5, not sure if it will easily fit in front pockets of pants easily.
Good luck waiting for that custom rom...Because even on the GS8+ after a year there are no custom roms for the U model. For exynos, development could be amazing because of project treble.
Basically, don't get your hopes up. If you have an issue with battery (which to be fair you probably will), try and disable some of those apps with package disabler pro, install greenify and hope for the best.

Oh yeah, The size does great! I put mine in my back pocket, will have a zero lemon on the way here soon. I put other things in my front pockets... It's either in my pocket or on my desk with my Gear s3 taking over.

Good luck waiting for that custom rom...Because even on the GS8+ after a year there are no custom roms for the U model. For exynos, development could be amazing because of project treble.

I was actually really curious about that thank you for that, I'm guessing i'll find myself moving over to the OP 6 when it comes out and just selling this one.
So you've moved to a phone with a SOC that's probably 3 times as fast, has 6 times the RAM, a much bigger and brighter screen, and a battery less than half the size, and you're surprised it doesn't last nearly as long on a charge?

I had a pretty big thought process I was going to go with, but since I haven't picked up the S9+ will just say "sorryboutyou".
I have an S5 laying around here and had a Note 3 and 4 with extended batteries. I never saw 3-4 days EVER.
Treo 600 representing! That 650 upgrade was the bees knees though. Got that advanced coupon at the conference in Dallas and by the time they showed up from that "deal" I already had been using my Sprint one for weeks.
What on earth is going in here ? Lol ????????
I used S5 for 3 yars. Battery life is same as S9+ but S9+ is much, much faster and better at all.
