I've been using my Nexus 5 for about 5 months now. Recently my phone have been having this "ghost touch" issue. My phone have a cracked screen so maybe that's the problem but I'm not entirely sure. Sometimes the touch screen doesn't work, sometimes it just presses at a spot repeatedly. The second problem is my phone sometimes dies at 80-70% battery if I play a game, use camera, or stream video. When it dies I can't turn it back on as it will die again while rebooting. It can only be turned back on by plugging it to a charger. Third is, when my phone dies or I shut it off, sometimes it will go to the "Android is starting. Optimizing app x of 152.". As I was typing this question, my phone rapidly pressed the recent screen button multiple times. Help is needed as I can't afford a new phone. The battery problem is really getting under my skin as I love to take pictures but I cant really do that properly with my phone connected to a powerbank.
Sounds like a shot battery

Sometimes when I grab the phone out of my pocket and I press the power key to enable the screen, I discover that it is off :S. When I press the reset button it will start again, but it seems strange to me. You guys have a suggestion of what it could be?
Hmm, this sound familiar...
I've just posted re battery life and my phone waking up all by itself, but now I come to think of it I've seen this happen as well - or my phone just soft reset itself randomly occasionally.
I wonder if they are related problems...

When I press the normal power it won't start up, so it isn't totally shut down though. Only a reset will do it. Very annoying.

Mine has started and shutting
NOT powering up with the power key or
the soft reset. I literally have to
pop the battery out and back in to start
up the phone. ???
If your phone is randomly turning off...yet it turns back on...your battery may be reaching its end. How long have you had the phone? My dash used to tend to do this when it was reaching the end of its battery life...it wouldn't just...run down. I noticed a decrease in battery life, but the moment the phone needed heavy usage (internet, messaging) the battery couldn't dish out enough power and it'd just turn off...this would even happen in my pocket if enough calls or texts came through...then when I'd go to check, it'd be off.
It's not that, I'm assuming, it's the phone. I just bought a new HTC Touch Pro 2 Days ago, and it does the same thing. It randomly shuts down, and it even overheats, and I have 3 batteries for the phone because I use my phone extensively. Sad thing is, this phone was to be more powerful then my 6800 and so far, it's failing.
Well, then I'm assuming its time for a replacement, lol. I've had mine for a while now, never had that issue. Never had that issue with any phone except my Dash when the battery took a dump.
My phone is 2.5 weeks old. I would hope they battery wasn't dying already, but who knows. The keyboard quit today and the screen has been acting funny too. Like when it goes into "sleep mode" the screen fades but you can still see the buttons to unlock the phone and the buttons on the bottom are all lit up and won't turn off.
The screen is incredibly wiggly too... This happened after I took my phone to a local sprint store. They put the phone casing on it to show me what it would look like and then the guy yanked it off my phone.
I am starting to wonder if some of this is not related to that.
So, since the keyboard died today.. Asurion is sending me another replacement phone... Guess we will see.
I think my problem has something to do with this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=3748976#post3748976
I recently have found that this happens to me whenever I turn the feature where it disconnects from EDGE when my device goes to sleep. However, when I turn that off and let EDGE continue to be on while my phone is in sleep I don't get this problem anymore. I have it checking my email every 5 minutes if that makes any difference.
alright dudes and dudettes.
i have the same issues more often than i would like.
it powers itself off and the only thing i cna do is soft reset. also sometimes when i wake the phone up, my plasma theme is distorted it still slides across but everything distorts and i cannot access any progs.
it is an annoying issue.
any fixes ideasm, help would be top. thanks..
Hello guys.
I have my Sensation and I did (100% correctly) its S-OFF, I install the touch recovery which worked fine, I even try like 4 or 5 ROMs until I get to AOKP Build 40. Then one night suddendly my phone turned off, I've tried to wake it up powering on but it did like a small vibration and the screen did a small blink, so I think it was the battery with low charge. I put the phone to charge connecting the charger and sometimes I see the orange led static, sometimes it blinks, sometimes it turns off almost immediately and sometimes it get static in orange (charging) and in a while go to green (charged 100%). By pressing the power button just a few times I has powered on, sometimes it freezes in AOKP logo, sometimes it pass it, enter into Android and then freeze, but almost everytime it never powers on, it just make small vibrations like every 4 seconds until I put the battery off and when I connect it via USB sometimes the screen blinks like if my phone is trying to turn on but something is preventing from doing it. Right now the last time it turn on was like 2 days ago, from that day it just do what I've explained. I've tried to power it on, VolDown+Power, etc. and nothing.
Can anyone tell me what happened to this phone? Some people told me is a software matter, some tells me is the battery. The thing is I have no idea what it is.
I have used XDA and Google like a demon and nothing. That's when I do the thing I hate the most: Make a thread.
Please help me on this, I need that phone returned from the state it is right now.
Thank you so much for reading me.
Best regards.
can you boot to recovery?
Is it a stock battery or anker battery? Sometimes the battery doesn't sit tightly on the contacts, place some paper between the top of the battery and the housing. I have never heard of your problem before but I have dealt with bad contacts and they have some similarities.

I've had the TF101 since it was first released in the USA. I haven't really used it much but lately I found a niche use for the tablet. The problem is most of the time it's really hard to turn the screen on. Almost every press to the power button will turn the screen on for about half a second and then it turns off. Then I have to wait about 5 sec before I can turn the screen on again but most of the time it will just repeat the same process. This is really frustuating. It appears this is less frequent if the tablet is laying flat instead of being held in hand, but I usually need to try it around 5 times before the screen will stay on.
The second problem is the screen will sometimes randomly turn off. Most of the time the screen will stay on for hours when I use it. Sometimes though, it will just turn off and then I'm met with the first problem. This is a sudden shutoff with no warning. Other times the right side of the screen will glow really bright before turning off. It appears to happen more frequently when I'm moving the tablet.
I'm using a rooted stock ICS rom. I'm pretty sure this is a hardware problem. Has anyone encountered this before? Is this something I can fix myself?
Thanks
I had the same prob many times. For me it was doing it real bad before i rooted. It is likely nothing serious. Could your lower frequency be too low? Try Katkiss. its very fast.
oddly the screen went off to the left a few mins ago. i never had that before but everything is back to normal it seems
I just flashed KatKiss 4.2 rom unto my TF101. Problem persists. At least the tablet is fast enough to be usable now.
I had this same problem...
It turns out that one of the kids had dropped the tablet and it bent the frame enough that it was putting pressure on the power button.
Yea sounds like the power button is either getting stuck, or it is faulty

I've tried multiple rooting method but failed. Hi thank you for using XDA Assist. I see you've also posted your question here, http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/help/nexus-5-multiple-problems-t3089631 That is the correct place to ask your questions.
I'm going to close this thread.
So I got this used Nexus 5 to play around with and there's an odd issue.
The phone appears to turn on normally and at cold boot it manages to go to the home screen of a freshly flashed slim rom. I can be there for a few seconds, then it'll randomly decide to shut off. I'm not sure but the temperature feeling from the back and screen feels hot to the touch. Meaning cpu temp is going high. My other nexus 5 doesn't appear to have that problem. The battery is acting weird as well. When I had the original battery on there it would just go to the google logo and would shut off right after. Should I plug in a brand new oem battery? I have a knock off battery and it worked fine on my other phone except the capacity was much lower. I thought it might be temperature related so I tried making an aluminium heat sink and thermal paste for the cpu, but nothing changes. I will link to video in a bit. Also the only way the phone responds after is by plugging in the phone cable to any power source. Don't judge the vertical framing it just happened. I tried to replicate it again all normal like and the phone stops at the 4 color dots and the phone shuts down as if the battery was removed. It doesn't respond until plugged into usb power.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4FMvVge9pPs&feature=youtu.be. I can't seem to post links yet, but this shows the issues I'm having.
*temperature seems to be 50c idle on the TWRP screen. While comparing to my other phone which is 30c. That seems off.
update: I fresh installed android 4.0 stock and I have to remove the battery ribbon cable and press it back in to get the phone to go home screen for about 5 seconds. the battery ribbon cable and the whole motherboard does seem to get very hot to the touch. What is happening? What could be eating up. Maybe that's why the phone is trying to shut itself down to prevent overheating damage.
there's no android 4.0 for nexus 5 :V oldest android for N5 is 4.4
