I have an OTG Y-Cable and I want to enable charging while also using the attached USB device (a HiFimeDIY DAC) but I can't make it work. The USB device receives power and works great but my phone does not charge. I have tried 3 different Y-cables so that's not the problem. Is it the kernel? I'm rooted SPH-L720 on Ktoonsez Kernel. any help would be appreciated. thanks.

I had the same problem and ended buying this y-cable and it works well http://www.dx.com/p/cy-u2-265-bk-micro-usb-otg-cable-with-usb-power-for-samsung-galaxy-note-3-s3-s4-343146

I had a USB OTG cable from my SGSII and it worked great but when i plug it into my one X (rogers) nothing happens.
Should something be enabled somewhere? am i missing something? Are there different OTG cables?
It probably must be enabled in a custom kernel. I wouldn't fret..just be patient.

thank god my samsung MHL adapter works
Hello!
I've recently acquired a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 Wifi (GT-P5110).
I was wondering if there's any way to enable USB charging (connected to the computer) instead of only charging through wall socket?
Thanks in advance!
It's charging from the USB, but very slowly (and can't keep up if you use the tablet). The USB charging works better if you shutdown first.

I see.
I've also read people saying that using custom roms (CM9 among them) it does charge and stops showing the cross over the battery symbol on the notification bar.
They claim that the kernel is customized so that the tablet is able to draw more power from the USB instead of the regular 500mA.
Is there any confirmed truth to this? Is it worthy? Doesn't it risk frying the USB/Connector controller on the tab?
Thanks.
Cable to charge Tablet
I also read in several places that you can use a special cable to perform the charging function. It is a Samsung P1000 adapter that has a switch on it to switch between charging and data. I've ordered one, I'll update regarding its performance when I receive it.

it's fake & hoax
Do you have root ? What ROM and kernel are you using ?
Try this for you Tab :
http://youtu.be/axcTiuLfuLI
The Galaxy Tab 10.1 stock only allows you to charge via USB Wall charger which is rated at 2 amps, here's how to hack it for any rooted Galaxy Tab 10.1 running Pershoot kernel so you can charge it via USB on your computer or even regular USB chargers.

Good luck !
You used to be able to fiddle with the USB charger and jiggle it about so it would charge via USB but an update got rid of that function ( ok more like a sneaky malfunction).,,,please note that i was running a STOCK based ROM on my SGT2 7 and not your device. Romswell was the author of the ROM and as i said it was for my tab , not sure if he caters for your device.
Charge while the phone is off.

I can confirm that CM9 and CM10 let you charge over USB, but it will only charge a useful amount when the screen is off.
Canyou charge the galaxy s3 wirelessly and use otg at the same time? Do you think this would be possible on the nexus 4?
Has anyone tried this?

I would also like to know if this is possible! (on any device)
Galaxy SIII OTG + chariging = NO
I've tried this recently because I needed to know myself.
It is NOT possible to do USB OTG and wireless charging at the same time. Wireless charging simply disables the USB port. And when something is connected to the USB port wireless charging is ignored. Even when only a OTG cable is connected (no mouse or USB stick) wireless charging is not possible.
Sad but true
Edit:
The same applies for the Galaxy Nexus phone with it's pogo-pins for charging. One excludes the other.
The only device that I've found and tested to be capable of USB OTG and charging at the same time is the Nexus 7. (charging trough dock, pogo-pins).
Another way to accomplish USB OTG + charging is to use a edited kernel.. About to try this on de Galaxy Nexus.
Hello, I need an OTG cable that has usb power. I mean i want to connect a wireless adapter to my nexus 4 but these adapters consume a lot of battery so i need to connect adapter to otg cable and the other otg cable to nexus 4 charger so the adapter won't need nexus's battery but only the charger to take power of. Im pretty sure that this can be done but i need your help to choose the right one.
Thanks in advance

Better yet, the Nexus 4 NEEDS external power as the Nexus 4 cannot supply enough power for USB OTG to work without. See also: http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-4/orig-development/usb-otg-externally-powered-usb-otg-t2181820
Look for a USB OTG Y-cable preferably. Mine just came over. Though I need to flash a kernel supporting USB OTG before I can test it out.
I didn't test it yet, but the one I bought is this one.

I checked the thread and i have some questions. I thought that i could plug the otg cable to the phone and the usb (male) i could plug it in to nexus's charger (is this possible?) and everything would work as should. So I have to flash franco kernel to make this happen? Can I plug otg to nexus's charger or I should buy another charger for the externel device (wireless adapter)?
This will work only if i have CM? Once you test it please post your results here.

Theoretically the Nexus charger, or any other device (like a battery pack) that could provide sufficient power should work.
Franco kernel doesn't have OTG support by default. The ROM isn't important, the kernel is. The kernel needs OTG support. There are some out there that support OTG. There is even a thread one someone patching for example to Franco kernel to have OTG support. Though the releases aren't very up-to-date, see: http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-4/development/kernel-patch-multiple-kernels-usb-t2586524 .
Dimfish should have OTG support. Has versions for AOSPish roms and CM roms.
Hell's Doctor should also have OTG, among a lot of other features. Also has versions for AOSPish roms and CM roms.
I am going to give it a try soon.
[EDIT]
Just gave it a try by using an old franco kernel that is patched (first link).. Works! Though the kernel doesn't work well with the latest rom I have, so Wifi doesn't work.. so I am going back. But it's confirmed. I used a battery pack to power the USB stick.

I flashed CM11 and I think I will keep the stock kernel for now. Once i get my Antenna & OTG Cable i will try them on Stock CM Kernel, If they won't work I will flash one of the kernels you suggested me. I will buy an OTG Cable like the one you bought.
Thanks again.:good:

I have a USB OTG Y-Cable but I can't seem to get it to work the way I want. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I want to connect my Android device to a HiFimeDIY DAC and simultaneously charge my phone (hopefully at a full 1.5A or greater)
I have tried my Galaxy S4 on the ktoonsez kernel. it powers and utilizes the DAC perfectly fine, but the phone doesn't charge. I have tried multiple AC adapters and multiple USB cables - both Samsung branded and otherwise. Do I need to try another kernel? Or another AC adapter or a specific cable? I see there is a patch to enable OTG + Charging on the Nexus 4, do I need to apply a similar patch to my phone?
