Hello!
I've recently acquired a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 Wifi (GT-P5110).
I was wondering if there's any way to enable USB charging (connected to the computer) instead of only charging through wall socket?
Thanks in advance!
It's charging from the USB, but very slowly (and can't keep up if you use the tablet). The USB charging works better if you shutdown first.

I see.
I've also read people saying that using custom roms (CM9 among them) it does charge and stops showing the cross over the battery symbol on the notification bar.
They claim that the kernel is customized so that the tablet is able to draw more power from the USB instead of the regular 500mA.
Is there any confirmed truth to this? Is it worthy? Doesn't it risk frying the USB/Connector controller on the tab?
Thanks.
Cable to charge Tablet
I also read in several places that you can use a special cable to perform the charging function. It is a Samsung P1000 adapter that has a switch on it to switch between charging and data. I've ordered one, I'll update regarding its performance when I receive it.

it's fake & hoax
Do you have root ? What ROM and kernel are you using ?
Try this for you Tab :
http://youtu.be/axcTiuLfuLI
The Galaxy Tab 10.1 stock only allows you to charge via USB Wall charger which is rated at 2 amps, here's how to hack it for any rooted Galaxy Tab 10.1 running Pershoot kernel so you can charge it via USB on your computer or even regular USB chargers.

Good luck !
You used to be able to fiddle with the USB charger and jiggle it about so it would charge via USB but an update got rid of that function ( ok more like a sneaky malfunction).,,,please note that i was running a STOCK based ROM on my SGT2 7 and not your device. Romswell was the author of the ROM and as i said it was for my tab , not sure if he caters for your device.
Charge while the phone is off.

I can confirm that CM9 and CM10 let you charge over USB, but it will only charge a useful amount when the screen is off.

Canyou charge the galaxy s3 wirelessly and use otg at the same time? Do you think this would be possible on the nexus 4?
Has anyone tried this?

Has anyone tried this?
I would also like to know if this is possible! (on any device)
Galaxy SIII OTG + chariging = NO
I've tried this recently because I needed to know myself.
It is NOT possible to do USB OTG and wireless charging at the same time. Wireless charging simply disables the USB port. And when something is connected to the USB port wireless charging is ignored. Even when only a OTG cable is connected (no mouse or USB stick) wireless charging is not possible.
Sad but true
Edit:
The same applies for the Galaxy Nexus phone with it's pogo-pins for charging. One excludes the other.
The only device that I've found and tested to be capable of USB OTG and charging at the same time is the Nexus 7. (charging trough dock, pogo-pins).
Another way to accomplish USB OTG + charging is to use a edited kernel.. About to try this on de Galaxy Nexus.
Hi Guys,
I've got my HDTV Adapter for a stock Galaxy Note 10.1, I'm a bit disappointed because it looks like it's mandatory to connect the charger (the cable already has got an extra slot for connecting the charger) in order to make the note send what it is displayed on its screen to the cable so I can see it on the computer screen for example.
Does anybody have an idea if this is true or not ? I'd love the idea if it is an option but not an obligation !!!!

My experience is yes, power is required. But this can be as easy as plugging in the usb to the tv or monitor if it has a usb port, you dont HAVE to use the charger
Which adaptor did you use?

Well, let me tell you why I'm a bit disappointed, I used to have an iPad which used in a lot of meetings moving here in and there with my pad and cable, now I've to have a power source around or even a computer, with a at least two cables with/without a charger, I'm not bothered with that at home but while one business this note didnn't prove to be a stand-alone, I'm not sure if an app that may simulate charging can deceicve tthe note on that aspect or not but so far, this can be considered a draw-back
Hello Everybody , I have a Tablet Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 N8010 . In fact my Tablet is charging slowly and when i connect with the usb cable my computer does not recognize the Tablet . Somebody can help me
Are you using original cable ?
Long cable tend to be slow charing
I just received my Note 10.1, a used one with 3m length cable, and same as you, not recognized by the pc, I ordered shorter one on ebay
Also not sure Galaxy charging works for this tablet, but it's less than 0.5A when using this cable, sooo....
i had a problem like this.
Use the original cable, or a usb 3.0

Why people are so lazy to search for the answer of this question??
SEARCH, there are many similar questions & solutions!
I'm sorry if this has been asked before. I tried searching but nothing came up.
Is there any way to charge a Galaxy Note 10.1 NT-8020 AND synch the data at the same time via a USB port? Right now I use the stock charger and cable together with MyPhoneExplorer (Android app) to synch the data via Wi-Fi.
I know if I use the original Sammy cable plugged into a USB port on a desktop PC, I can synch the data but only charge if I switch off the device. I assume this is because there's not enough current available for charging from the USB port. But is there something different about the cable itself?
If it's just a case of insufficient current, I should be able to charge/synch via a powered USB hub but the one I tried just now doesn't work either. If it's just a question of buying the right type of powered hub, then can anyone suggest make and model?
Thanks in advance.

Thanks. That's what I was hoping so might risk buying a hub I saw that claims to deliver 2A to the USB ports. I tried an old 10-way USB hub that has a 2A PSU but this can't charge the Note while it's switched on so obviously it's not supplying enough current to the ports. I kinda imagined it would deliver 2A to one port or 200Ma to all 10 or something like that..

EDIT
Rats! Just found out this product is a charger only ie no data ports so that's no good. There must be some technical reason why an external, powered USB data port hub can't be made to deliver 2A or so.
I would like to be able to buy a cable so that when i am away i can plug my Tab into an HDMI TV and watch movies directly. I know that it is possible but before i root my tab, are there complications on rooted devices that would make this function unavailable?
Any cable recommendations greatly received.
I use MHL cable. Kind of 3 way cable. 1 to your device, 1 to the hdmi port and another 1 is usb charging port

I went for the Chromecast and Allcast app from clockwork. It gave me some trouble initially but now is working well. I'm yet to test it with WiFi AP as the router. I hope I can use it when I travel without a bringing a router

is there any way around this without plugging into a charging port?
I used to use the Ipad and you only needed 1 cable for that...
I wanted to use for presentations so the last thing i want is needing to plug it in charge!
Thanks
its working without charging. but your battery will drain fast.

Great - how did you do it? lol
I have an MHL-HDMI cable and it was just not connecting at all (without charging) infact I didnt even know you had to plug it into a charger into I read your post, I just went to a meeting room and connected all up again, this time plugging in the charger and hey presto it works!!
As soon as I pull the charger out I loose picture - does that MHL device need charging up?
dont know... mine just work that way... lol... you can also plug in to the usb port on the display.

Because some TVs have MHL enabled HDMI ports that don't require external power.
