Hey all, I have a bought a galaxy tab 2 on android version 4.1.1 a while ago.
Back then I rooted the tablet so I could run whatsapp etc. on it.
After some research last days I noticed there were a few updates for the tab, and I decided that i want 4.1.2, (but still with root)
now my question is(since I can't update over the air):
How can i update my tab to version 4.1.2 while keeping the root acces and without losing or need to reinstall my apps?
because if i download the stock 4.1.2 ROM and install it, I lose all my apps and I need to reinstall it (from my experience with the htc legend).
thanks in advance!
Make a backup in CWM and install the ota; it seems that usually with this device OTA's will install properly when rooted.
You know, it's a sad day when your cellular service is faster than your home broadband.

No, that is the problem. It is not possible because it will say taht my device is modified. But i decided to try cyanogenmod on it. And if it doesn't suit me then i will install stock 4.1.2.
but still thanks
The file will only work on the G900V-NI2 Stock Build. Use on custom ROM's may cause issues with the ROM. As always proceed at your own risk!
Here it is:
G900V_NI2_TetherAddOn.zip
(To undo the mod flash the G900V_NI2_TetherAddOn_Revert_to_Stock.zip using the same instructions below).
Instructions:
1. Place the G900V_NI2_TetherAddOn.zip onto your ext-sdcard.
2. Reboot into Safestrap Recovery.
3. Flash the G900V_NI2_TetherAddOn.zip in Stock Slot(Do Not Wipe Prior to Flashing!)
4. Reboot. Done!
Note:
1. This method will modify your system causing future ota updates to fail!

Just go into settings and turn on tethering.
Ok it's working Great, I'm using the app Portable Wifi hotspot to toggle it ON/OFF
Thanks Again :good:
I just upgraded to the Verizon S5 yesterday and had feared I wouldn't be able to continue to tether using my unlimited plan. This worked like a charm! Thanks so much!!

yes lol. how else can you flash it in recovery/modify system files?
Question: If I flashed an NI2 Based rom (and NI2 firmware using odin obviously) on the stock rom slot. For rom slot 2, can I just clean wipe and flash NI2 based rom without reflashing NI2 firmware in odin again?
Sent from my SM-G900V using XDA Free mobile app
Question: when flashing this and following directions exactly I got an error saying that E: mount is incorrect. Anyone have any ideas on what I can try?
Can some one point me to right direction to rooting the s5. Just bought one and before switching over from my s3, I need to be able to tether, since it's my only source of internet. Or can I just download Pdnnet + and call it a day?
The phone I bought is still on kitkat

You have to first downgrade your firmware to NCG to root. The right tutorial depends on which firmware you want to end up on.

Actually all you need do is flash the NCG kernal (Odin) reboot and wade through the FCs to flash towelroot. Reboot then Odin the NK2 stock kernal. (presuming 4.4.x that is what the OP is running)
Just did this and root is fine. FoxFi is working well also.
Does this work on NK2 as well? I checked and there only appears to be native hotspot support for NI2 and lollipop versions. Not sure why NK2 is left out.

I installed Xposed and the Xtether module. Works fine on NK2.
I just tried to flash this on nk2 with safestrap and I keep getting error: cannot open zip file
This has been working fine for me for about a year now. I went to use it today and my hotspot isnt working. Everything appears to be working correct on the phone. And the phone even shows up on my computers list of wi-fi networks. But when I go to click on it, it says it cant connect. I tried several computers in the house and had the same result. I tried resetting the password on the phone and the computers and that didnt work.
Is it possible this file that we have to put in safestrap has become corrupted?
Any help would be appreciated.
This is the stock US KitKat ROM for The Galaxy Tab 3 7" Tablet. Finally found it after a bunch of hassle online, and figured I'd post it here to make things easier for everyone.
When I Odin'd this ROM, it actually upgraded my tablet, and left all my items installed (not guaranteeing this will work the same for everyone else).
Afterwards, I just Odin'd TWRP to reroot using Chainfire's SuperSU (no other Superuser would work) and called it good.
Caution: if you are using a custom ROM, this may not work without reflashing stock 4.1.2 since the 4.4.2 ROM appears to be an update, rather than a full ROM.
Rooted devices and custom kernels that are otherwise stock should be fine.
The cache, and if possible dalvik-cache should be cleared before flashing. Some of those files can sometimes interfere with upgrades.
It might be necessary to pinpoint apps that are force closing, uninstall and reinstall them. Some apps, particularly paid apps, store their data differently on KitKat, and will automatically fail as a result.
If that fails, it might be necessary to factory reset the device.

I've seen both devices referenced together quite regularly, implying that they use the same ROM.
http://www.boeboer.com/samsung-galaxy-tab-3-7-sm-t210r-manual-guide-wifi/
And even use the same kernel from what I've read:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2439564
I would take standard precautions, such as having a odin image of your original software available and performing a backup of your current system (if able).
Perhaps someone else has some insight to this question?
edit: Looks like I had my information wrong. Found where I obtained the ROM from, it is for the T210R model, and was not intended for the T210.
There are custom ROMs that have been patched for use on both devices, which is where my confusion came from, but this is an official ROM.
I have gotten my hands on the T210(no R) ROM file, and have update the Links above.
I am not responsible for any failed attempts at flashing to either device.

First, thanks for this. I have the T210R. I tried using this and had the same result, it updated the tablet instead of loading a completely new version. I did however run into a problem...the tablet had many for closes and reboots to a point it was unusable and so I reverted back to my backup. Did you see this? Maybe I had a bad download?

I did not have this problem, but I didn't have much on my Tab either. (Some apps don't play well with KitKat upgrades.)
Torrents have multiple segmented hashchecks to make sure you get an uncorrupted download, but it might still be possible. I'm reasonably sure my file is OK since I've used it (can't speak for the non R file though).
Did you clear your cache, and if possible your dalvik cache? I've read that some of those files interfere with upgrades.
If you can pinpoint the apps that are force closing, uninstall and reinstall them. Some apps, particularly paid apps, store their data differently on KitKat, and will automatically fail as a result.
Other option would be to try a factory reset and see if that fixes it. (I understand not wanting to do that though.)
One more thing, if your ROM isn't stock, or stock rooted (custom kernel should be ok too), you may have to flash 4.2 before the 4.4 ROM will work on the device.
Right guys, here i go, just joined and first question!!!
i have not ever rooted a sm-t210 but it was rooted when i bought it second hand!
i have linux installed on my p.c. and was wondering if there is a way to upgrade to and official KITKAT!
as stated i am having problems because my SM-T210 wifi only! and want to update to kitkat official release!
but was hoping also that there is a way/method to root via LINX and not via windows!!
if that is not possible how do i go about it on windows!! as i can use a friends WINDOWS-P.C. if i must!
ah also my SM-T210 does not have the options to change the function of the USB-function,,,
i.e.
it used to have an option to,, use as a mass storege, media transfer or use with samsung keis,,, or some thing of the sort
but this option has dissapeared! may have been my fault!!!! as i uninstalled some system apps,
now it crashes and reboots whenever i try to turn of USB-DEBUGGING options in DEVELOPER-OPTIONS !!!!

Just to triple check, by the above quote you mean that if my tablet is currently rooted, I should still be fine to flash this update correct? [obviously it would become non-rooted once flashed and I'd have to re-root it as you mentioned you rooted after installing]
Also, how much space does this take up?
thanks

That is correct. I was rooted running the Werewolf custom OC kernel. I still had my tablet upgrade without wiping, and one other user has reported back saying the same. But I can not promise upgrade as opposed to overwrite.
The flash file once extracted, is about 1.4 GB, I don't know sizes beyond that. It does not repartition the tablet however.

Well this is awesome, system won't mount and I don't have a backup. Samsung website does NOT have the stock firmware, and attempting to get it for another country just to get this to load so I can flash a ROM leaves me with having to download at 15kbs. I am in the process of selling this to someone for their kid... And there are ZERO seeders for these files. Lovely.

For some (unknown) reason, Odin3 nor JOdin3 doesn't seem to work for flashing my Samsung Galaxy Tab3 device. For that reason I tried Heimdall-Frontend, but to make that work you need to extract the content of a stock ROM first.
Anyways, it still didn't lead to get my device into factory reset yet.
But that's another story on which I still have not yet found the answers needed to get the device successfully back into factory reset.
My guess is that the 'system.img' file, of Android 4.4.2, successfully has been loaded from Heimdall-Frontend, yet by going into reboot right away after Heimdall-Frontend releases the connected device, the download may be deleted.
I read that the cause of that may lie in the fact that Android 4.4.2 is only an update and no full ROM.
So I have tripped KNOX already. I'm using TWRP, Xstrolite 2.3.
I've tried unchecking superSU root and retrying. I've tried using root cloaker.
Is there an easy way to not have the bootloader unlocked? Or is it once I flashed TWRP, its unlocked forever.
Has anyone else been able to successfully use Android Pay? Post your experience
I'm in the same boat as you, I've tried disabling SuperSU and using root cloak as well to no avail. I've also got the Xtrestolite ROM running Unikernel V8 and I keep getting compatibility errors no matter what I seem to do. Could it be possible that Android Pay is detecting that KNOX is compromised and therefore disabling Android Pay? The only other thing I can think of is that running a custom ROM somehow prevents Android Pay from being compatible. I'm almost tempted to make a nandroid backup and temporarily install the stock ROM to see if that solves the problem.

Exactly.. Or that we're running a custom recovery too.
My thought is that the xstolite rom makes your phone be seen as a s6 edge.. Wonder if that affects things too. Though I've changed in the build prop back to 920T.
Would be a big bummer for us who've tripped Knox getting screwed out of android and Samsung pay. Others with rooted phones, have said it works.

I also changed the build prop to reflect my SM-G920F model. I really wish I could get Android Pay to function on this device, I tripped KNOX with the full understanding that I was going to lose the ability to use Samsung Pay but never did I imagine that using a custom ROM would cause me to compromise Android Pay as well. I purchased an international unlocked model of the S6 so naturally, the bootloader was unlocked from the factory, I don't know if having an unlocked bootloader necessarily causes you to lose Android Pay. It either has to be due to the fact that we're running a custom ROM, custom recovery, or because KNOX is tripped and it's preventing AP to run like it should.
Try installing the stock rom for your phone. Then under supersu simply uncheck root and see if adding the cards work
I have it running and got my bank card added haven't had a chance to use it though. I'm using TWRP on WanamLite, Adam kernel, with Xposed and a whole lot of stock apps deleted including KNOX and private mode. All I did was unroot, install, AP, root, profit. I'm guessing its something missing from XtreStoLite.

So i did a fresh install but with Tyrannus rom 5.1, it runs the same base as Xstolite (I believe)
I got android pay working on tyrannus rom 5.1
maybe try backing up your current setup, wipe and flash the rom and first thign you do is try android pay and see if it works. Thats what I did on the rom im running now
I got it working on Tyrannus as well...briefly...although I am not sure how I did it.
Currently on XtreStoLite 2.3, using Xposed + No Device Check and an app called SafetyNet Helper...it says my device is good to go, but Android Pay won't work still.
I hope someone is able to pinpoint what prevents it from working and how to spoof it. I tend to have my phone in my hands a lot more than my wallet.
K, got it working. Fresh install of Tyrannus 5.1, did NOT install Xposed. Immediately turned SU off after 1st boot, before updating Google Play Services. Was then able to activate Android Pay and add cards.
Update 20150924: tried to use it at McDonalds for tap and pay. Android Pay started when tapped but never completed the transaction and I had to use my card.
I tried to root and it failed now I am trying to get My s3 verison 535 back to original. Unfortunately I no longer have my verizon service for this phone. I have tried to reset it but part way thru the set up it says set up failed.
Then It returns back to the verizon red screen
Any Ideas

s3 was working when I switched to a note 4. I took the verizon service off the phone and it sat in the garage for about a year set at 4.42 installed king root.
when I reset the phone it says king root in shell
pda ne1 phone ne1 csc ne1 vzw both current and latest firm ware I can get a screen with time and be able to go into settings
does the fact that I have no service affect the phone going to the verizon screen?

Not having service shouldn't affect it in that way.
I bought a used i535 back in May that was on the stock 4.4.2 rom from a couple that had done no mods to the phone. It had been unused for several months. After receiving it I wiped it and did a factory reset. Following that I rooted with TowelRoot, installed BusyBox, and then SafeStrap. At that point I installed SuperLiteROM and followed that with XPosed. I never put the phone into service but had no issues with installing apps, xposed modules, etc. That is there were no issues until I lent it to a coworker.
I am not familiar with King Root and if it can cause problems. Likewise, I am not familiar with KingoRoot.
I sounds like you are getting to a homescreen since you are seeing a clock widget and can open settings. It could be that your launcher has been compromised. If that is true, the simplest fix may be to reflash the stock NE1 rom. Doing so most likely will cause you to loose root.
@ShapesBlue do you have any other ideas on this?

Yeah, I would say to restore stock firmware but as you know, after 4.3 you have a locked bootloader, this includes the 4.4.2 that you have now, if you flash the stock firmware make sure you flash exactly what you have now or one of the newer stock firmwares, do not try anything older than your 4.4.2, that would be a downgrade and the locked bootloader can't be downgraded or the device will perma-brick. Flashing stock and doing root over again is the simplest solution compared to troubleshooting this issue, more could get messed up if you try too many things.
