[How-To] Enable Native Tethering - G900V-NI2 (Safestrap Method) - Verizon Galaxy S 5 General

The file will only work on the G900V-NI2 Stock Build. Use on custom ROM's may cause issues with the ROM. As always proceed at your own risk!
Here it is:
G900V_NI2_TetherAddOn.zip
(To undo the mod flash the G900V_NI2_TetherAddOn_Revert_to_Stock.zip using the same instructions below).
Instructions:
1. Place the G900V_NI2_TetherAddOn.zip onto your ext-sdcard.
2. Reboot into Safestrap Recovery.
3. Flash the G900V_NI2_TetherAddOn.zip in Stock Slot(Do Not Wipe Prior to Flashing!)
4. Reboot. Done!
Note:
1. This method will modify your system causing future ota updates to fail!

Just go into settings and turn on tethering.

Ok it's working Great, I'm using the app Portable Wifi hotspot to toggle it ON/OFF
Thanks Again :good:

I just upgraded to the Verizon S5 yesterday and had feared I wouldn't be able to continue to tether using my unlimited plan. This worked like a charm! Thanks so much!!

is root required?

yes lol. how else can you flash it in recovery/modify system files?

Question: If I flashed an NI2 Based rom (and NI2 firmware using odin obviously) on the stock rom slot. For rom slot 2, can I just clean wipe and flash NI2 based rom without reflashing NI2 firmware in odin again?
Sent from my SM-G900V using XDA Free mobile app

Question: when flashing this and following directions exactly I got an error saying that E: mount is incorrect. Anyone have any ideas on what I can try?

Can some one point me to right direction to rooting the s5. Just bought one and before switching over from my s3, I need to be able to tether, since it's my only source of internet. Or can I just download Pdnnet + and call it a day?
The phone I bought is still on kitkat

You have to first downgrade your firmware to NCG to root. The right tutorial depends on which firmware you want to end up on.

Actually all you need do is flash the NCG kernal (Odin) reboot and wade through the FCs to flash towelroot. Reboot then Odin the NK2 stock kernal. (presuming 4.4.x that is what the OP is running)
Just did this and root is fine. FoxFi is working well also.

Does this work on NK2 as well? I checked and there only appears to be native hotspot support for NI2 and lollipop versions. Not sure why NK2 is left out.

I installed Xposed and the Xtether module. Works fine on NK2.

I just tried to flash this on nk2 with safestrap and I keep getting error: cannot open zip file

This has been working fine for me for about a year now. I went to use it today and my hotspot isnt working. Everything appears to be working correct on the phone. And the phone even shows up on my computers list of wi-fi networks. But when I go to click on it, it says it cant connect. I tried several computers in the house and had the same result. I tried resetting the password on the phone and the computers and that didnt work.
Is it possible this file that we have to put in safestrap has become corrupted?
Any help would be appreciated.

[Q] Help! Rooted phone with Custom Mode, ROM Manager Bricked

Hey guys,
I just got my phone and it updated to 4.4 pretty much out of the box. I still wanted to root so I used a method I found on here (will find if necessary) which is supposed to not trip the KNOX by putting the phone into "Custom Mode." Everything went fine until I tried to use ROM Manager to install CM.
When I boot I get the message "System software not authorized by Verizon Wireless has been found on your phone. Please turn off your phone and go to the nearest Verizon Wireless store for help." I've tried reflashing using Odin, clearing the cache and factory resets, but I get the same error every time.
I'm currently downloading another stock ROM which might work, but I wanted to see if anyone else has had this problem?
Thank you!

You are permanently stuck on the TW 4.3 OTA because the bootloader is signed with special keys that prevents:
-installing a custom recovery
-flashing custom roms/kernels
-downgrading your software below 4.3
If you can boot into download mode, do this 4.3 soft brick method.
With TW 4.3 OTA, all you can do is root using a tool called: Saferoot.
If you have 4.3 stock firmware you can root and that's it, no custom recovery, no custom rom, kernel, nothing, and just a heads up there are like 10 threads where people don't read and have done what you have, you need to flash the Odin 4.3 image for you phone to work again, never take an ota, enjoy your locked down device now

My pleasure but all the thanks is owed to ThePagel, make sure to post your success in his thread. The more people that report their success with that method, then the less fear someone else may have in using that should they suffer the same experiences. :victory::good::good:
If you need any updates on the state of TW 4.3 then keep this discussion thread bookmarked.
I did the same thing today. The 4.3 update installed by itself!!! So i rooted it using Saferoot,
i installed rom manager, clicked the Install rom from sd card and i got that message. it will repeat that message and it wont boot. So i went into Odin mode and hit the volume down button to restart it. And after that it booted normally.
So basically i am stuck with 4.3? and is there 4.4 out for our phones yet?
also forgot to mention, it says my OS is custom when i first realized it updated.

Once you successfully updated with 4.3, you stuck with 4.3, there is no going back or flash anything and 4.3 is the latest factory rom for now. There's no 4.4 yet for our phone. There is custom 4.4 but only for people who didn't take the 4.3 update. Since they still have unlocked bootloader so they could load any custom rom.

If root can even be obtained this might be an option, otherwise your probably out of luck

Root has been obtained @ShapesBlue
Nobody has created a ROM for i535PP users yet(the i535 roms run but no wifi/data). And you're correct about having to use safestrap to flash it.If you're comfortable with a bash terminal you can try using one of the various tools found around here to modify the stock rom. If you're not then I'll see what I can do this weekend and try to get something for us i535pp users (after a day or so of testing)

Its cool. Good to see safestrap works on the prepaid version also

I'm not sure what a bash terminal is unless it's the same thing as the terminal emulator. I tried using that rom that's called paulpizz or something like that. I used some other rom to. The paulpizz one always failed to install even after downloading it a third time. The other one i can't remember the name but it installed but wouldn't start at all. It would just go black and bootloop and goes into stock recovery for some reason. I came across the nf5 module when i found that paulpizz rom on the goo server they hosted it on. So i got the module and i figured if i were to flash the module over the i535 rom that it would fix the wifi an data problem but never got an answer because it always failed to start up properly and would just bootloop into stock recovery. Ugh Verizon is making things so difficult with modding lol. As of now I'm just using xposed to get at least some theming in and tweaks. I couldn't get any deodex program to work. Whenever i used the deodex files and pushed them to the system of apps and framework, it would restart and just stick on the Verizon logo. So i had to flash the firmware to fix the problem.
When i was on 4.3 with this phone safestrap worked and i got the wifi and data sim error. Now that i got it replaced I'm running the kernel of July 22 2014. Everyone was saying I'm out of luck but i came across kingroot and got the most recent version and it worked. I have root. Installed safestrap for 4.4 and it runs fine but can't get any custom roms to boot. I only managed to find one 4.4 touchwiz rom unfortunately

If you're going to try flashing an i535 rom and then the i535pp modules let me know how that goes, can't test as I won't be able to do anything till the weekend. If that's the case then there's no need for roms for the pre paid version. Cyanogenmod was also bootable but very buggy.

I'll let you know how it goes and thank you. How is it that you were able to boot CM? From my understanding being that the bootloader is locked and has Knox for extra security to make the unlocking like impossible. But a genius came up with safestrap so we are able to use some custom roms but the down side is that it has to be the same Android OS and has to be a touchwiz based rom. So how are you getting lucky with all this? I love CM and I'd pick CM over any custom rom any day but i gave up an lost hope of ever getting CM because of the locked bootloader

Safestrap 3.75 had support for AOSP roms (wifi/data didn't work for them either) and 4.0 dropped support for that (there is currently no point). Read the thread for more info http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2797314
Ok i wasn't using safestrap 4.0. I had 3.75 B05 which i thought was the latest version they had. I'm updated to 4.0 now and about to test the modules on the superlite rom
Update: i have tried the super lite rom using safestrap. The boot animation won't work during start up. When it gets to the welcome screen it freezes. It still does it even without applying the nf5 module. It freezes and will keep popping up that system isn't responding. System just keeps freezing and prompting me to wait or force close. So not sure why my s3 has a problem running it but yours don't

I'm running the stock prepaid rom, not superlightrom, sorry if there's any confusion there.
When I tried out superlightrom (quite some time ago) it appeared to work fine (excluding wifi/data and nagging about no SIM card being inserted, nothing like what you're describing) and I went back to stock.
Oh ok. Well it seems that the prepaid version or the s3 in general is dead. That's unfortunate

Here is how to update to 6.0 Marshmallow if you haven't received your update yet.

Note: This is the live update. Not Soak Test.
For U.S. update only.
Here is how to get your update prompt:
1) Put your phone on Airplane Mode
2) Turn on your Wi-Fi.
3) Unmount your SD card from the Settings.
4) Eject your SIM/SD card from the phone while your phone is still on.
5) Go to your Settings and check for an update. Your phone should detect the update and you will be able to download it.
I didn't find it full credit goes to: https://www.reddit.com/r/MotoX/comments/3w92rp/moto_x_pure_edition_how_to_update_to_60/
What to do wenn you get a error 7 message. If you followed these steps ?
This is how i did it
Pull sim card out
reboot phone
after phone rebooted, turn wifi on
go to settings, about phone, system update
Didn't worked for me.
Don't works.
Neither of these options worked for me. (UK)
The OP should really edit the title of this thread. Or at least state in the first post that it only works with US carriers/telco
It works on USA. I just got the chance to update this using the methods you have mentioned. I followed exactly what you said and it's working for me now.
Thank you
It worked for me(T-Mobile sim removed)
Out of curiosity, though, what is band 12? I'm having a bit of trouble understanding this whole situation with t-mobile. Can someone explain?
What version is this? 24.11.18.clark_retus.retus.en.US retus?
Confirmed works, I'm on Tmo. This is what I did, because I didn't read OP's instructions fully before doing it myself:
1. unplug sim
2. check for update, ensuring wifi is enabled
work for me
I'm on XT1575, no carrier, outside US
steps:
1. unplug sim & sd card
2. restart phone
3. enable wifi
4. check update
5. download!

Just tried the Alexis Rom and same thing.. stuck on boot. I reinstalled Alliance hoping for diffrent results.. can text message but no audio during a calls.. ugh! Back to stock again lol..
Provider - Telus
S6 920w8
Stock Android version - 5.0.2
Stock Kernal 3.10.61-4808800
I am using TWRP v2.8.6.0 and am wondering if the version or kernal may have anything to do with getting stuck on boot with almost every ROM i've tried to install..
My procedure when installing a custom ROM is to do a factory reset from TWRP (i dont do data or format because there is no sd card slot to store my rom or backup image), install ROM, clear cache/divik, reboot to system.
Any Ideas??

Reflash any ROM giving you sound issues and then flash either hacker kernel or arter kernel as they are the only two compatible as far as I know. Once you have flashed arter kernel and then rebooted your phone. Reboot your phone back into recovery once more and then flash this https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B4Gyz91x5k7gc2NBS2N5TFQwY0k/view?usp=drivesdk it is the call audio fix for our devices (925T / 925W8)
(920T / 920W8)
Just make sure you DO NOT FLASH THIS BEFORE DEVICE REBOOT AFTER FLASHING CUSTOM KERNEL. Or you will get into a bootloop and say this doesn't work. (Your system needs to build with kernel settings first)
Here's a step by step I hope helps.
1. Flash custom ROM
2. Flash custom kernel
3. REBOOT
4. Set up ROM.
5. Reboot into recovery.
6. Flash call fix.
7. REBOOT
8. Profit.
Hope it helps you and welcome to making your phone truly yours.

Another reason why you are not booting is because you are on 5.0.1
You will have to update the bootloader to MM 6.0 first in order to use 6.0 custom ROMs this can be achieved by flashing any of our latest Canadian firmwares. (Does not matter what company if you are changing FW after.)
ALSO you can use the advanced wipe settings on TWRP to wipe everything but 'internal storage' that is where the ROM is downloaded.
I had alot of issues installing custom ROM's.. so i decided to upgrade and install OEM marshmallow 6.0.1 then re-root my phone. It worked.. I'm running Griffin ROM atm but will play around with other roms now that i have a good idea of where i went wrong.

I do not. However I always have mobile data running, maybe toggle yours and see if it sends. Some of the new ROMS have incorporated a tweak that auto toggles data to recieve pictures and send them. Griffin AFAIK does not have this tweak yet so when sending MMS you need to manually turn mobile data on and off.

Samsung S5 "Invalid SIM card." error. SM-G900P

quick background. Bought a sprint S5 on ebay, floor model (SM-G900P). Android ver 6.0.1. Had it activated for Boost Mobile and was getting Invalid SIM card. Called and had new SIM sent from I think Samsung (Boost transferred me). Before I got the new SIM I rooted my phone and attempted to install Xposed Installer and framework via TWRP. I had a few problems rooting but got it to work. I could not install the Xposed framework (v 86) without my phone hanging in boot up. I uninstalled the framework via TWRP and phone is working.
I received my new sim and installed and all was good for 4 days before I got the "Invalid SIM card" again. Called boost and did the ##72786# activation reset and updated my profile. This did not fix the problem. I have another Boost S5 that we don't use so I pulled the SIM out of that one and did the reset and still have the same problem.
I did trip KNOX but don't really care about that unless it is causing a problem.
Looking for suggestions before I load stock rom with Odin and start from the beginning. Not sure that stock rom will fix the problem.
its probably a modem issue. Flashing the tar.md5 in Odin is the nuclear bomb method, but its likely going to work, if anything will.

So are you saying to flash back to factory stock rom? Or is the tar.md5 just the modem ware and what exactly would I loose in flashing?
Is TWRP going to be an issue?
Thanks for any help. I am traveling for work and use my tether constantly. I can work with 3G but 4G would make my life much easier.
TIA
well, you can flash the modem by itself, but the most surefire way is to just start from scratch. Get the OK4 tar.md5 file. the twrp img and supersu. Flash the tar to get it to stock, boot it once, go back to odin mode, flash the recovery, flach supersu via twrp, boot again, get logged in to your gmail acct, do the hands free activation.
from there you can get the hotspot app or just twrp flash a rom that has it baked in. MOAR 7.0 is pretty awesome. Also, RWilco has a repository of already modded tar.md5 files for the G900P that has the hotspot already baked in. id maybe flash his OK4 tar.md5
