[Q] Root Without Unlocking Bootloader OR Backup ta partiton without rooting - Sony Xperia E3

hey guyz i went through out the forum i couldn't find a way to root my device without unlocking bootloader . if i unlock my bootloader my drm keys will be gone then i cant claim my warranty and is there any way of backing up the drm keys without rooting i just tried the TA bakup tool but it didnt work, help will be greatly appreciated :good:

There is a method that allows rooting with a locked bootloader for LTE and non-LTE variants. In Xperia E3 General, choose "Root with locked bootloader" by @nortonex if you have the LTE variant (D2203, D2206, D2243) or @mbc07's guide if you have the Non-LTE variant (D2202, D2212).

You can flash other device's kernel (for rooting) as long as the devices aren't much different (i.e. if the CPU don't burn at startup). Even M2 kernel is safe to install, it has the same chipset (though it won't even fully boot, but is rootable)

Try flashmode method
First turn off your device then press volume down and connect usb your device will be detected as flash mode in flash tool then click unlock ? bootloader button ? and your bootloader will be unlocked ? then remove usb power on your device and then turn off again and press volume up and connect usb then in flash tool you will see device is connected as fastboot now. Try flashing your device. If it works then enjoy your unlocked ? device.

This does not work, the bootloader button does not make any changes
Unlocking bootloader doesn't mean rooting.
After you unlock bootloader, you can flash kernel with SU in ramdisk and root.
For now, there isn't any method for locked bootloader.
Btw has anybody tried this? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1886460
It worked fine on my 2011 (ehm) device, maybe works here too.

So if what I understood from that post is correct, I can flash a custom ROM but not a custom kernel.
Anybody knows a pre-rooted ROM for D2203?

i read about 5 pages and understood that your bootloader can,t be unlocked with custom bootloader it can be unlocked with doing something ta partition and ta partition can brick your device. so only touch ta if you know enough about them.(reading those forms gave me headache because deep system and codes that i don,t understand just that,s why i only read 5 pages i don,t know if thare is any more any good information)

You cannot
Either downgrade to a firmware that is rootable via giefroot or unlock the bootloader and root. Please be advised that rooting via unlocking the bootloader first loses you the DRM keys.
The 'best' way to root is via downgrading. If you then plan to unlock the boot you can backup the TA partition to save your DRM keys.

The answers to all your questions is NO...
First of all, stock kernel uses verified boot, so no joy on rooting that...you can only temporally root on some Lollipop firmwares from an exploit used by iovyroot, but root won't stick on reboot due to verified boot, so this is only good to take a TA backup...
Second and last of all , to be able to flash a custom kernel you need to unlock your bootloader...

flashing TWRP with locked bootloader?
I am aware that I can only root my Z5 Dual if I have unlocked my bootloader. But is this also true for TWRP?
I mean, can I flash TWRP using following command (with a locked bootloader)? Or would this brick my device?
fastboot.exe flash recovery TWRP_Recovery.img
Up till now, I could not find anything so far (or maybe I was looking for the wrong term)
:silly:

Why it's almost impossible for us to have the root with the locked bootloader.? Since the day the mobile went out till now it wasn't possible ?, so is there a chance?

Nope highly unlikely, since dm-verity security was introduced on the z3+ all xperia devices after this require a unlocked bootloader for root. A modified system just won't boot up.

so after the searches, I did I found out the following:
1- first, since I'm on android 7.0 I need to downgrade to 6.0 in order to backup my TA ! wich I can do via Flashtool
2- I do the backup
3- I root the phone and restore the backup I did
4- I upgrade to android 7 and then I'm good to go!
my questions:
1-what will I lose after unlocking the bootloader? and if I restored the TA backup will that count as if i didn't unlock the bootloader?
2- how I will root the phone? with a custom kernel or is there any other way? and if with a kernel any advice?
3-shall I do the root before upgrading to android 7? or before? and will I be able to still get updates after the root? or i will have to do it through Flashing Ftf of the new updates?
4-anyone is running Xposed framework?
thanks so much in advance ))
im not sure what we lose after bootloader unlock.. From what i read on the androplus kernel thread, if you use androplus there is some amount of drm functionality restored. there is no clear consensus from what i have read, and being a ex-Z3 user im still paranoid about this as in Z3 without the DRM camera is basically ****.
no xposed for nougat yet - so that's out of question.

For every upgrade (via SONY's FTFs):
1. Flash FTF via Flashtool
2. flash suitable recovery and AndroPlus kernel (look in this forum and follow the instructions on AndroPlus' website)
3. boot into recovery, flash SuperSU and whatever you need
There should be a possibility to flash the devicekey (not the whole TA-partition!) to another partition to get the whole DRM-enchillada back. That does not work for me since it is not included in the FSC as of today.

2 see above, rinse and repeat for every new SONY Rom
3 same answer, since the modifications are overflashed by installing/flashing another ROM
4 I used to run XPrivacy, but ATM the granularity of options in MM and Nougat is enough for me -
there is no Xposed for Nougat ATM

P.S. if you still want to use fingerprint unlock, do not choose US. And also NFC won't work after changing your firmware
