[Q] Wifi signal?
Does anyone get a weak wifi signal with their Nexus S? Whenever I connect to my at home wifi I never get full bars and something I'll just randomly lose signal. Also it seems to go pretty slow. I used to have the Mytouch4G and it work flawlessly with the wifi. Anyone else having this problem?

OMG yesss I do.
Just about a room away I loose signal, almost completely. = 0
IDK, but I see more flaws every day that passes
Mine's been working fine over Wi-Fi. I'm pretty glad it does too, because my only data option with it is Wi-Fi..
Sent from my Droid using XDA App
Wifi has been working great for me. It reconnects automatically and doesn't drop. The signal seems on par with my nexus one.
Speed wise, is it on par with the 3G network?
[Q] Wifi does not work anymore after rooting :(
So, I unlocked my Android 2.3.1 and rooted it ... But if I click on wifi so I could connect to my modem it says Error and wont even search or anything. I tried reseting too but still no luck .. What is the problem and how to fix this ??
That's odd, I didn't have any issues with wifi as I connected to Android Market to downloaded ROM Manager during my rooting process earlier. Have you tried flashing a custom ROM on your device to see if it'll fix it?
No I didnt, would that work? .. A friend told me to install a new "kernel" but I dont want to overwhelm my android with custom made kernels .
your problem is you used one of the quick methods of rooting your phone, which used a kernel that wasn't from the exact rom you have.
if your on stock 2.3.1, you will need the stock 2.3.1 boot.img, and then you'll need to root it manually the long way via adb command line. search the nexus s development section for how-to's. they are all there.
i too had this problem, had to install MoDaCo ROM to fix it, but i dont regret rooting, i now have custom rom and over clocked cpu on the nexus s
you have two options, either to flash NANDROID backup to un-root and return to stock or install a custom ROM, i choose MoDaCo bcoz of its UI, it looks and feels just like the stock one.

Yes, that's the point of MoDaCo roms, to make minimal changes to the look and feel of the phone, but to improve performance with his custom optimizations.
[Q] Nexus S wifi issue. Unable to access wifi from my nexus s.
Hi Guys,
I was able to connect to my wifi network for a day. I am using windows 7 machine as hotspot with connectify. From second day I am unable to connect to any wifi network. I did factory reset my nexus s but no results . Can some one help me how to solve this issue?
Observations:
*when i use static ip, It shows connected but the bars are in white instead of green color and i am unable to browse.
*When i use dynamic ip I am unable to connect to wifi. It shows obtaining Ip and never connects.
*In connectify when I was able to connect to wifi the device is shown with an android device name. but now the device is shown as unknown.
Sorry for my bad english, I m not a native english speaker.
[Q] Nexus S Wifi Settings - force close
Hi all,
Just got a new Nexus S - all was well at home. Took it to work today and noticed something very odd. It was fine until entering the wifi settings menu - at which point it dramatically slowed down. I got two 'not responding, close or wait' messages before being able to join the network.... all other settings are fine - just the wifi area.
Weird - wondering what could cause this... too many wifi networks broadcasting (am in middle of London)...?
Anyone seen anything similar?

Too many WiFi around you shouldn't cause that.
Try rebooting and setting again if you haven't already.
Hmmm - rebooted and still have the same issue. At home, or even a block away from the office it all works fine. But in the office itself, although it connects and uses the wifi fine, the settings page is VERY slow to load and gives me the wait/force close message.
Out of interest - I also have 'wifi analyser' from the marketplace. This too is very slow and unresponsive when in the office.
So - it is definately something to do with the wifi here.... but have not got a clue what. Before I join the wifi, or when I am physically somewhere else it all works fine.
Wifi is WPA-TKIP, the key is a very long jumble of letters but surely that is not an issue.
Strange eh!!!

[Q] Possible WiFi problem?
Hi there, just bought a Nexus S, also used to have Nexus One.
The thing is for some wireless networks even though I enter the password correctly, it says connected and still there is no connection at all. (I mean browser tries to connect but at the end it says page could not be found) I even tried with an ad-hoc network that I created with my laptop but still the problem exists.
At home I'm able to my network without a problem. The type of network I'm trying to connect is: WPA2 Personal with AES. Is there any known issue about AES at Android system? Afaik there is no way to change the encryption used right?
this might actually not be a nexus S issue.
some modems/switches/routers are configured to block certain devices/applications/package's
we have a modem and router with both wifi.
but my psp/nDS cant connect to the modem, but can connect with the router

i have a similar problem. My Nexus S connects to my router only within a few hours after a router reset. Then it stucks at "obtaining ip" and never connected before I do another router reset.
My home wifi is WPA2 type, and for WEP type wifi my NS never got connected.
My HD7 worked without issue from the beginning of the year til around a month ago.
All of a sudden, my WiFi became extremely unreliable, sometimes taking an overly long time to recognise or connect to an obvious access point, sometimes finding none at all.
After I do manage to connect wirelessly, I see no speed increase in data transfer to suggest that the phone is even using the wireless link. Web pages sometimes load slower than over 3G. I had read that HD7s have trouble using certain WiFi protocols and adjusted accordingly, but the workaround was to no avail.
Additionally, once WiFi has been selected, I cannot switch it off. I am 'locked out' of the WiFi settings page. When I tap it in the menu it responds as if I've nudged it but it cannot load. The only solution is to remove the battery. On occasion, this stuck WiFi has also caused the capacitive buttons, camera and power switch to become inactive. Curiously, touch screen function seems unaffected.
I thought maybe this issue was tied to corrupt settings with my hub, but changing SSID / WEP key etc etc on my router hasn't fixed the problem, and connection to other open WiFi signals jam the phone just as badly.
I upgraded to Mango in the hope that a fresh OS update may 'rejig' my wireless settings into working, but again, no joy.
Anyone experienced anything similar? My final options seem to be factory reset the handset to see if that solves the issue, or return the handset to O2. (Both involve losing all my data, game saves, application data AND the recently delisted SW: Battle for Hoth permanently.)
Anyone got any other thoughts?
*EDIT* After a bit more research, I found that even when the phone has connected to a WiFi source, by turning Operator Data Service off, you can see that the WiFi service is in fact not doing anything.
I braved a factory reset, managed to whack WiFi on no problem, browser ran at appropriate speed, then everything crashed as per usual, I couldn't connect to the marketplace and had to pull the battery in order to use any of the capacitive buttons. I guess it was a hardware issue individual to my phone after all.
Guess I'll give O2 a ring sometime soon to sort a replacement. Not looking forward to losing all my game progress though it has to be said.
bro i m having the same exact problem havent find any solution yet i even tried to copy and replace the wifi files from another clean htc hd7 but useless when i upgraded to 7740 the wifi worked perfectly for 1 night only then at the morning it stopped working, everything else works great. my theory says that its not a hardware problem cz i used internet sharing which uses the wifi adapter (if i m right) so its a software I GUESS

I had the same problem as well, couldn't connect, got to the point where even the power button stopped responding. Hard resets would only help for a short time and enabling WIFI would never connect right and eventually get me back to the same problem. I then got a replacement device, but it's not much better, I still can't connect to any WIFI, but at least it's not freezing up on me. My solution thus far has been just to avoid turning on WIFI if at all possible, but it's far from a perfect workaround. I'm guessing it's the HTC WIFI driver that's got issues.
i got similar problem.. send phone to service problem was "circut board"
replaced working fine...
when i was using wifi my phone was freezing some menus stop working and i have to remove battery
Hello dear community,
I have a strange issue with my HTC ONE S:
HOME button activate on itself and loop(switch from miniatures to home page). After a while the three buttons are de activated.
Interrupt any activity you can have.
Not due to hand/finger misuse: it can happen phone lying on a deskā¦
Remark: It happens only when GSM/3G signal is very low. Plane mode solve the issue, but then it is hard to phone...
you can find a demo of buttons deactivated here(http removed I can't post links):
youtu.be/gfzBbMPHqjE
Do you have similar situations?
Do you think I should send it back to supplier? Or a baseband update could help if I'm patient?
Versions:
Android: 4.0.3
HTC Sense: 4.0
Software number: 1.53.401.2
HTC SDK API level: 4.11
HTC Extension version : HTCExtension_403_1_GA_4
Kernel version: 3.0.8-01500-ge2a40ab
Baseband version: 0.15.31501S.19_10.12.31501S.06L
Browser version: WebKit/534.30
OK, I suppose I'm alone in this situation...
Looks like a good return reason.
Some Antennas are directly behind the snsitivie buttons (below the lower plastic cap) so maybe some are misaligned and cause interference bad enough to trigger the buttons. You mention of using flight mode to cease the problem kind of makes me think this might be the case.
Im getting similar issue. Had this twice, thought its because of "shock", had this while driving and using maps, but just had it in my hands...
Any info about this problem?
issue gone
Hi,
The bug didn't happen since 4 days now.
I travelled by car on 350km using GPS, sms...
No more issue even with low signal.

Hello,
at the beginning I did 2 factory reset but the bug still happened.
Then no other change.
what I can notice is that the radio signal level is changing all the time between very different value even if not moving...I think there is some kind of radio instability...
EDIT: "WCDMA Only" setting is the key! That disables EDGE that is the source of problem.
Home screen button problem
Hi,
I'm also having this problem and am about to get my third replacement One S. I started a thread about it on the Vodafone forum which a few other people have now replied to with the same issue, although no one as yet can figure out exactly what's going on. I too think that it has something to do with the antenna being located near to the home button, as the problem seems to show itself every time I make an EDGE connection. HTC are apparently investigating my issue and have asked me to send them a bug report.
I'm not allowed to post the link to the Vodafone thread on here however you can find it by typing "htc one s home button problem" into Google.
After today I stopped believing its releated to H/3G signal change.
I just unlocked my phone (gps/wifi/mobile data - all OFF) and right after unlocking home button glitched... Didnt do anything...
Im gonna go for exchange soon
P.S. question - how are phones exchanged for you guys? They take it and send to service center, or just exchange right away? How it works? Never done that
I'm with Vodafone and they just offered to exchange it as soon as I explained the problem to them (I was within 7 days of having received it). The second phone had the same issue though so they then agreed to replace that as well, but they then sent me a reconditioned phone by mistake, so I'm now waiting for a fourth phone.
Hi
I did some testing and this issue is linked 100%, to EDGE. When "WCDMA only" is set : no issue.
HTC ONE S is unusable on EDGE network...
Hello
i instantly register on XDA forum because i have exactly the same issue with my HTC One S.
I have it since four weeks, i was very satisfied but this issue appears to my parent's house. Exactly the same issue: HOME button activate on itself and loop(switch from miniatures to home page). After a while the three buttons are de activated.
I returned at home and the issue disappears!
I confirm the pierre.grand's observations: i'm in EDGE to parent's house and WCDMA at home.
How to alarm HTC on this disturbing issue? I hope an update firmware will be soon...
Loop Problem
i have the exact same problem, but it seems that
the problem wont go away after turning off edge (mobile data)

It looks like the problem on my phone is when edge/3g or wifi is connected
When i turn of wifi and edge/3g the phone acts pretty nice!.
Is this related to firmware or hardware, ?
if its fw its no use compling to my the store, HTC Support does not "know anything about this error...".
Has anyone experienced this problem, and tried flashing costum rom?
do the problem still follow?
Thanks for all help.

I have the same problem. But I have installed Trickdroid 1.0,
CWF did not solve the problem.
cu goohnie
Phone returned.
But they sent it back to me syaing there is no problem. They made a firmware upgrade.
I'm now waiting for it.
Do you have some feedbacks?
How long did it take for the problem to appear? I'm always on EDGE with Wi-Fi on (due to TMOUS' lousy coverage at my home) and I haven't had any problems.

It's happening on EDGE used as data connection: that means no WIFI.
The signal has to be low(problem doesn't occur if signal is correct) and the phone has to be switching very often between EDGE and 3G.
Then when it is in EDGE, the issue occurs.
If you try to switch off the screen, it takes screenshots(HOME combination with POWER button, normal behaviour since HOME button activates all the time).
If you put you finger on the HOME button, the flickering stops.
After a while, the buttons deactivate on their own and the touch screen works fine.
Then you can switch the screen off and then on the buttons are back.
after a while if you are in the same location the issue reappears(difficult to give you the exact frequency since it's linked to sognal force it depens on the place you are standing).
I was using a back cover at the beginning and it makes the issue more present, I suppose this is because of the reduction of signal that happens...
At home I have a great signal, then even if I force EDGE only I get no problem...

Tried to make the problem show up (select WCDMA only, let it connect and then switch to auto and let it drop to EDGE) and nothing happened. Also had a few "natural" 3G-2G drops with no problem. US phones could be different (different bands) though.
I have exactly the same problem.
It's happend only on edge, 2g mode.
That might be problem with more phones. People please check your mobiles, switching only on 2g(gsm) mode and turning off wifi.
My phone always gets mad when the single data packet is send.
Unfortunatly that makes phone unusable for me, in work i have only GSM coverage, the same in home. I can use internet only in the places where is WCDMA or wifi.
People better check your phones, nobody knows when phone may fail you if you'll be in GSM coverage only.
So I've had my Nexus 5 for roughly around a month and I hadn't experienced any issues others have had with wifi not connecting until now. My N5 will show im connected to my home wifi with full bars, but going into quick settings shows it to be orange. Suggesting there's no data transfer, I cannot use any internet based apps with wifi. I've tried some suggestions, switching my router off then on, rebooting the phone, turning some settings off in the advanced panel in wifi settings. All have failed.
I was just wondering if anyone else has this problem and if anyone has a fix to it.

There was a thread around here somewhere that suggested turning off your mobile data helped fix this problem, I think it was in the N5 General forums.....here it is:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2550690
Don't know if it'll help or not, just saw your thread and had just looked at the other one, figured I'd toss it out there.
Thanks for the reply, just tried that solution but still no luck.
I have a similar problem except that there are phases of wifi not working.
Sometimes I would have around 20-30 seconds of WiFi not working and there would be no data transfer.
Speeds are still fast when it is working however.
I played a little with only using mobile data and no wifi, and everything worked. (Small sample size however).
Seems like this is a WiFi only issue.
So somehow overnight the wifi has managed to fix itself, will report back if the problem returns.
The issue with the wifi returned unfortunately.

Don't know if you've tried this but change your WiFi frequency band in advanced setting to either "5 GHz only" or "2.4 GHz only," whatever your router uses. Might be worth a try.
Thanks for the help, but I've tried changing some settings in advanced wifi settings but it hasn't worked. Even what you recommended I've tried that before and it didn't work.
wifi issue
Also I have the same issue - Im connected to router by wi-fi, home and work and time by time (5x a day) wifi stops working. Wifi is enabled in settings, but there is no connection. Restart the cellphone helps, but after that, maybe an hour, it appears again.
Issue was in 4.4 and still appers in 4.4.1.
Yet did not found how to solve it.
I have the same issue on my gnex running shiny 4.4, but I also had the same issue on 4.3. Tried the wifi options, nothing worked. Unfortunately, no solution for this device that has to last one more week. The double swipe down and tapping wifi gets the connection back, but it is only a work around.
The N5 connects seamlessly to my home and work wifi. A few days ago, I flashed the hammerhead factory image, TWRP and the 4.4.1 update.

Hey,
I have the same problem with 4.4.2.(factory rom, no root or not unlocked). Sometimes the wifi not works and get orange. I must put airplane mode to fix it. Its annoying.
But as well happens to me:
When I go out from office or home (where I have wifi connections saved in phone) the phone automatically switch to data plan from carrier. But when I come back the phone stays with data and there is not automatic switch to wifi. Sometimes it help to put wifi off or always airplane mode on/off for a while.
I do not know if it is normal behave of android but I would like have automatic switch to wifi.
I tried to change wifi details (changing bands, etc.) but not helped.
Please help. Thank you.
Is custom ROM or kernel will fix it??
For some unknown reason, as soon as I updated my router's firmware, the problem disappeared.
Updated Android 6.0 solved the issue

So I had the unfortunate experience of having my wifi go down while on vacation and for 3 weeks I spent a good chunk of time wiping and reinstalling multiple versions from Cyanogen, Paranoid android and 4.4 - 5.1 to no avail. I just did another factory wipe today and installed the new Android 6.0
The Finger Pointing Game is OVER
Read through 30+ pages of other android users with similar experience and some people send their units back to LG and some even managed getting a new handset. There was never any hardware issues with my unit I just couldn't turn on the WiFi but after the install WiFi works? Guess next time you push a software update to our Phones CHECK YOUR SH*T google and Maybe DON'T Take 3 months to FIX your F*CK Up.
I have a similar issue. Since Lollipop my phone almost never automatically connects to my WiFi anymore. What's wrong?
Hello! I flashed the stock image two days ago, as I was not part of the initial wave. Everything seems to be working great, but with one exception. When connected to wifi, anything that must pull information from the web has major lag. For example, opening facebook (or facebook messenger), or instagram, or twitter. You get the idea. Opening facebook messenger, for instance, takes around 9 seconds to load a conversation.
I did a ping test through my phone, using google.com, and found that it took around 9100 ms.
If I disconnect from wifi, which switches me to LTE, this issue disappears.
Switching from wireless 2.4 ghz to 5 ghz makes no difference.
While I have found bug reports about problems connecting to wifi, I haven't really found anyone with this specific issue. If anyone has any thoughts, I would greatly appreciate them.
Update:
Speed test shows that my wifi connection is running at normal pace. Ping test showed a delay, so I am assuming that is where the problem is. This problem does not occur on any other of my devices using my wlan.
I'm experiencing the same thing, unsure of what's going on. Facebook is so sluggish and everything else I do on the Internet seems to be so slow...
Same for me
I am also having issues with WIFI on Lollipop. I always seem to be connected to the network but when I open apps that use the internet connection, it takes forever to load. Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and other mainstream apps are having a real hard time loading images
I am having the same problem.
Weird thing is that I was at a different location today and used the wifi there without any problems. Didn't have time to figure out what was different with their network configuration.
Same problem here.. both on my phone and my wife's. If anyone here hears of a solution... please post back.

Actually... I fixed this.. I have a D-Link-655 Router.. I had a firmware from 2012 on it.. I updated to the latest from 2013 and I no longer have problems with wifi-lag on mine or my wife's phones with Lollipop. Something to consider before fussing with IPv6 settings.
