OK now I know there isn't a Ghost in my phone but at times my phone behaves like its possessed. The problem is with the touch screen. At times my phones starts to do stuff on its own. Like open random apps, bring down the notification bar and then brings it back up. Once it even opened my whatsapp and then opened the keyboard and typed a message and sent it to an contact. And during this time it doesn't really respond to my touches. But it happens very rarely like ones in two days and that too for a min or two. Been happening for a two weeks now. I have the latest CM 7 Nightly installed. So what do u reckon is happening? Is it a software bug or an Hardware bug? And how do I fix it?
..

I had the same problem. LG Service Center said, that they need to change the touchscreen. Try to flash another ROM, if you get the same problem, then unroot and flash stock firmware and go to LG Service Center or change the screen yourself
But I hope it's your ROM, good luck!
on my sgs i have this weird ghost while charging.. are you running ics?

This could be a reason cause it all began when I flashed DJNoXD's Kernel 2.5.2. But then I re flashed the latest CM 7 nightly over it and it continued to show the symptom's. Also I did not over clock, never did.
Today when it showed the same possessed behavior, I pressed the power button and it at once came back to my control. So I guess its a temporary solution to it.

It never happened during charging.
Found the Culprit
It was being caused by a pair of external speakers, which has it own power source, which I connected to the phone. I am guessing the speaker was sending some kind of charge to the phone. When I connected the speaker, the touchscreen completely stopped working. and even after I disconnected the speaker the touchscreen would continue to behave the way I described in my first post. Probably stored that charge somewhere. Bottom line, now that I have stopped connecting the speakers its stopped that behavior. There case solved. Feel like Scooby Doo. There was no Ghost after all.
Lolzz..
Hi, I have been looking all over the internet and search the xda thread but I couldn't find anything related to my problem.
So this morning when I wake up, I turned on my phone and after I used it for awhile suddenly my phone stopped working (freeze/hang) and started to reboot itself. After it reboots my phone's screen as per attached below.
The problem lasted for a day and started to driving me nuts!
Anyone experienced same problem?
I am running KK4.4.2 fyki.
Thank you very much for your kind help!
are you unlocked, rooted, custom recovery, rom, kernel, anything? can you access the bootloader?

Nope, I am all stock without any modification nor and fancy stuffs.
Just pure android 4.4.2
I am thinking that the hardware might be faulty..

If you're stock, it could be hardware. Though have you ever attempted to root?
Is it just randomly happening?
Definitely hardware

Yes, it just randomly happening. It started yesterday morning until now..
The phone started to not responding at all and then my screen goes broken (same screen as broken TV I might say).
If I let it cool for 15-20 minutes the phone is usable, but then after 1 hour of normal usage the phone started to freeze again.
Just curious, none of you experienced the same?
this kinda looks like the static i was getting on screen on my n7 2012 when i let the battery get too low. charging it up and a few reboots fixed it. but im not sure if that's what is going on with yours

I just got mine, 32gb from the playstore, a few days ago, and nothing like that.
If it's happening when your device is hot | overheating, you may wana see if you get it replaced.
It happened to me once. The phone was with his screen off and when I try to turn it on that exact same screen came. But it just happened once, also I experienced random poweroffs and reboots. I did a factory reset and power off issues and freeze stops, but had one reboot once I start installing my apps. I think its a software issue but I'm not sure.

I'm glad (and kinda of sad) to know that I'm not the only one with this issue.
The problem started about two weeks after I bought mine(Telus). It's done this about 5 or 6 times, randomly.
I found that having someone call me will "unfreeze" the device and the screen gets back to normal.
The first couple times it happened, I was running stock 4.4.2. I since rooted it and installed Xpposed/GravityBox and I'm still getting the problem...
I think that I'll have to return it...
Idk if i need RMA the phone. Its a great phone and the reboot issues has stopped. What should i do?

Hi, I have the exact same problem, I posted a video on youtube /watch?v=m0EkC_ak01g but I got to the same conclusion that it might be a GPU issue. So there is nothing I can do right?, the worst thing is Im in Argentina and LG dont take my warranty because I bought it in Germany. So there is absolutely nothing I can do?, I know how to avoid the flickering a little bit, when I hit "Ok Google" button it seems responsive and as long as I touch the screen it works (you can see it in the video) but as soon as I stop touching it, after 2-3 seconds it becomes unresponsive again, and when I say unresponsive Im saying the screen doesnt reflect what Im doing, I can still push the buttons and all. So Im not 100% sure its a GPU issue, but a software too. Thanks.
Hey guys, kinda run into a problem i have never had with my billions of android phones. Yesterday i ran into a problem when i was coming home from school, My wifi nor bluetooth could turn on, when i hit the button to turn either on, it stays on the "On" switch for a good 5 seconds. my moto x 2013 (4.4.4) was kinda also running hot and the battery drained super fast that day (Also My facebook messenger app used 150mb that day, i only Recived one message without responding :V), i let it sit on charge for maybe an hour and i was able to turn the stuff back on eventually, now today its happened once again and makes my Smart watch useless when there's no Bluetooth :v Any help? i have read that it might be a modem problem and all i would need to do is flash one but im on stock not rooted :v verizon 4.4.4 cant be rooted at this moment.
i think i might have solved it, i saw in another thread that recently they are having the problems as well and i have seemed to maybe fix my problem with what they did, if you have some sort of flashlight app, Delete it and reboot, my bluetooth and wifi was about to be used again, ill report back to see if it happens again.

in mos cases i've encountered, its some battery or connectivity manager that's the root cause. in other cases, its just a lagging device thing. You can read how to fix an Android phone whose WI-FI or Bluetooth wont turn on for more insigt on the causes of this issue

Yeah at noon today I got the problem again, I'll check your thread
Hi, I replaced myself the screen (preassembled screen+digitizer+frame). After the replacement everything worked perfectly for like two hours when i rebooted it, from then on it is extremely laggy and stutters from boot animation, and when I press the power button (or when the screen shuts down), the phone itself shut down. In bootloader it doesn't seem to have problems.
I checked every connection inside the device (I've disassembled ad reassembled it several times).. thinking of a software problem, I've flashed marshmallow stock rom frist, and kitkat 4.4.4 then... but it's the same with any factory image.
Maybe I damaged something on the mainboard?
I also made a video to explain the problem:
with a lot of patience I set up a google account and downloaded cpu-z to see if maybe temperature sensor where giving wrong information to the system, but they're fine and everything seems to work propely aside from the stutter.
thanks to anyone who will help me, I'm almost giving up

I thought of that, but the fact that the haptic feedback (like the one you have entering app drawer, or returning home) is perfectly sync without lags made me think the touch was ok... and even twrp recovery was working smoothly (coudn't show in the video since I factory flashed kitkat)

with 6.0 shuts down after boot animation (and reproduces it stuttered like the kitkat one in the video).
Right after the screen replacement, stock marshmallow was working fine for a while
That's very strange indeed, OK so try this, go into developer setting and check disable HW overlays, and check force GPU rendering, this will make the phone use the GPU for UI stuff, possibly fixing ur studdar, let me kno

OK, I've just tried... can't tell any differences.
I was thinking that the main way to solve this could be to investigate on the fact that turning off the display (both with power button or by itself after 30sec), shuts down the entire device. Could this be an hardware failure? (maybe generated by a physical damage that I caused)
thank you BTW

That's very weird, what did u replace, and how did u do the replace, did u do the frame as well, and when u took the batt out did it come out easy it did u fight with it, I've heard cases of this happening, and other issues caused by damaging the battery during a fix
PS, no problem man, I know exactly how u feel lol

I bought a pre-assembled frame-display-touch. The battery came out easily even if I slightly forced it in the bottom. Anyway before replacement the battery was completely discharged... it has been completely discharged for almost two months since I broke the lcd in September. Left the phone disassembled on the desk for two days. After reassemble I plugged in a 2A Samsung charger to fill it up... initially everything was working properly, made a few photos with both cameras to check, a call and some random checks.. still on charge. On the second call I made, the microphone stopped working, so was the third... turned off the device, back on and everything was messed up like it is now.
Well a battery failure could actually make sense...

I didn't fix it eventually... but from my experience in fixing PCs, I believe that it could actually be a power issue related to either the battery or some power circuit.
If you've nothing to lose and some dollars to spend, you could try a new battery and see if it works!
So my Nexus 5 (a couple months ago) has started to just randomly go black. I get notifications and stuff, and the backlight but no display. Not sure what to do or what part to replace. Would flashing/rooting help at all?
Appears to be a hardware problem.
Was the phone every dropped or exposed to water/moisture? Possible loose connection inside?
No way to tell for sure if the phone needs a new screen unless you are able to test the motherboard in another N5.

It's been dropped a couple times but not like any major drops or anything. Im pretty sure I checked all the connections inside and they were good. Im starting to figure out that the phone has to be off for a little bit then I have to charge it and turn it on and it works again
Sounds like it could be a damaged lcd or lcd connection. If it can work after being charged while powered off, could be battery or USB flex cable issue.

Ya I figured out I have to reboot it a bunch of times then it will work
I think it might be the battery because this is my dad's old phone so it's been in use for a solid 3 years.. I wish I knew for sure though
So I have discovered that if my screen is on for a while the task bar at the bottom starts to shift up and down
Have you found out more about this? I think I have the same problem. My phone never turns black while I use it. But when the screen is off/sleeping, it sometimes won't turn on again. So a force reboot fixes it. Sometimes this happens a lot, some times it works fine a whole day.

Maybe, I don't think so. My phone was useless, black screen on every screen unlock. But namelessrom took that away, so that tip about nameless was for those who have the same black screen I had earlier. But now I have the same black screens as you do. Anyway, if you want to try it out, nameless-rom.org

Happens with my nexus too. The screen goes blank randomly ..... But i have managed to deal with it.
Its happan to me also, with 4 nexus 5 of my family.
Is a firmware problem?
I'm trying to buy a new flex cable to see if it will help I'll update when I find out
You're replacing the USB charging flex cable? If you are, be careful with cheap third-party replacements as I have read reports of people having issues with charging, signal, or speaker functionality after installing the cable.

Ya so i sent it to LG finally and the diagnostic said that it was a flex cable issue which I was sure that it was anyway but I have a confirmation now
I've had a similar problem when my display suddenly started failing. First, there was colourful bands over the working display, then colourful static only and then black with backlight only. Bought a new phone, left it for a year and today after digging in the phone for a while I found a fix. The connection between the motherboard (the top bit) and the daughter board (the bit below battery with USB and connection to display) was somewhat loose and when pressed on, the display worked beautifully. I stuffed the insides with some tape to maintain pressure on the connection and phone works great.
Might not work for your problem, but it's worth a try if you're out of warranty and have tools to disassemble the phone.
