The unthinkable just happened - Galaxy S6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was in the tub (backs been bothering me lately). So, I had the water as hot as I could make it. For some ungodly reason I took my 4-day old s6 in with me. Well, when I grabbed the phone as I stood up, I dropped it from about 2 feet into 8-10 inches of water. We have a deep tub. My initial reaction was to yell "Noooooo", and then I tried fishing it out. I couldn't get a hold of it right away and it sloshed around in there for a few seconds before I fished it out. I dried it off, powered it down, and am hoping for the best. I'll let everyone know tomorrow if it survived or not.

I feel your pain... sorry mate :crying:

The ironic part is, I dropped it in the water only minutes after I posted in the battery life thread about how happy I am with the phone.

I cross my fingers that your device will work again once it dries out... good luck! :fingers-crossed:

I think it will work fine. Leave your phone in a bag full of rice or some other moisture absorbing material overnight.

That's what I'm hopiNg for. It did seem to be working fine when I powered it down, but the big test will be when I go to charge it tomorrow.

Something weird about that video - How does the S6 stay at 100% with the screen on constantly for over 10 minutes?......

Leave it for a couple of days in the rice or warm airing cupboard. Not just one day, and it'll be fine

Just hope you didn't pee in that water or its gonna be a rust bucket

Does anyone else find it ironic that the OP's name is the same as a book about submarines?

Ha ha I used to take the S5 in the shower with me to play music, its a habit I MUST break now lol. Hope it works for ya man.

it'll be fine, dudes on youtube submerge the s6 for like 45mins before it started taking in water

My scary story for the day

So this morning my phone happened to be sitting on a toilet paper dispenser. As I was walking out of the stall the scariest possible thing happened. My phone dropped off, and plop... landed right in the toilet, as if that wasn't bad enough it was full so I had to flush it to get to the phone. So I couldn't just pull it right out, it had to sit there as I flushed 2 or 3 times.
So after I managed to fish it out, I immediately removed the battery, sim card, and SD card and took it back to my room. I then stuck it in a large cup full of rice. I figured I should be ok since the contacts on the battery were dry, and the sticker on the top of the battery is still white. 6 hours later, I poured out the rice and booted up the phone, and now I've decided someone upstairs loves me.
All phone functions were still working, including music and ringtones from the internal speaker. I am vastly impressed, and must say, thank you Samsung for making your hardware right!
im speechless lmfao
Wow! That's a ****ty thing to happen to someone lol.. I'm sorry. I couldn't help myself. I'm glad your phone still works.

You should rename the title of the thread 'My ****ty Story For The Day'
As a short time ex cellphone technician I can state only 1 thing. Water damages sneak up on you.. your phone could be working fine now then a week or 2 weeks down the road random reboots.. phone starts glitching up and starts opening up random apparel by it self. I had many and many encounters with water damaged hardware!... u can't see rust unless u remove everything to the last screw... and even then the memory disk could rust down the road... u did a smart thing with rice.. its one of the best things... another is partially cleaning the phone with wd40 very neatly and then partially soaking it with rubbing alcohol something that's more of 91% or at least 70%... but I hope ur phone continues to operate without a flaw.

This morning trying to return a text while taking a whizz, I dropped mine in the toilet of pee. For a millisecond I was like no way in hell am I sticking my hand in piss but I did and wiped it down and took it apart and washed the battery cover. I then wiped it down with alcohol. I just let it sit in a room with a fan going all day and then in rice for an hour after my mom suggested it. It's actually still working so far (I haven't tested speakers) but the battery sticker is red.

Unfortunately, the top edge is not protected in this type of case. In a gel case that covers the top edge as well, it would probably have survived unscathed.
So much for HTC's theory that this phone does not need a case!

Yeah, i did the same with my Sensation XE... CD/DVD marker will do the trick for a couple of days at a time.. But it wears off, so you have to do it 2-3 times a week if you want it to stay hidden..

No its not supposed to come apart like that. It's heavy duty double sided taped together and it came apart. If I put it back together the plastic falls off while the phone is in my pocket. Also when I called google the guy said its not supposed to come apart EVER! So no I'm not trolling but thanks!
Also the power button fell off of the plastic so thats pretty cool.

Correct, it does not come apart. I had two of them and both were pretty much solid, meaning not apart.
It seems to be that many people are confused on whether it comes apart or not. I, for one, would not want a product that falls apart in such a way and I, too, would make Google replace it.

Don't shower with your SW2

Just a heads up. Got my SW2 on Friday, it's Tuesday and my watch is acting up. I think it's due to taking a shower while wearing it. I wasn't laying in the tub or anything like that, just a quick 10 minute shower. Noticed some condensation behind the sensor and for most of the day and the top half of the screen wasn't responsive. Everything is working fine now, but there's still some condensation behind the sensor. Just a warning to some of you. I figure it'd be pretty obvious to avoid swimming while wearing this thing but I didn't think water would seep through while showering.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk
STEAM... A HOT SHOWER MAKES STEAM.
It can penetrate just about anything that's only mildly waterproof because it is water VAPOR not liquid water.
That's a good point, I didn't think about that.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk
You might have a small defect in the "water-proofing" of the watch but steam is most likely the culprit. Had it happen to a few electronic devices that were just sitting on the sink while someone was taking a shower. I've yet to have any issues with it considering I don't take it off in the shower.
AFAIK SW2 is water-RESISTANT, not waterPROOF. That means it still does not like water and I don't know why you even take a shower with it
My phone is T. Xperia T.
IP57 should mean that its ok in the shower
http://userguide.sonymobile.com/ref...artwatch-2-sw2#!Water-resistance---AccCA.html
Although i dont think i would, it should be waterproof to a max of 1m for a maximum of 30 mins.
Why would you shower with a watch on to begin with?

Only if you shower in water at or below room temperature and you don't use soap.
That's why they have this symbol in their "Don't" section:

Soapy water and water mixed with chemicals have different penetrating properties than PLAIN water. I wouldn't even wear it washing the car or dishes.
Although I'm still early in my Science Education (College-stage) Water Vapor is probably going to have an easier time at getting in than water. I don't really care about it that much as I had it free with my Xperia Z1, if it breaks I will be a little bummed but it's something I can live without. So I'm going to continue wearing it in the shower, and see what happens, I've had no issues so far with condensation inside the screen, I use to wear normal waterproof watch without any problems at all, so I don't think to take my watch off before I go in the shower.
sent from my Nexus 7 using xda xda-developers
IP57 means it's resistant to immersion up to 1m and 30 minutes.
The tab doesn't specify however if by saying IP57 they mean that it includes IP56 and IP55 (resistant to water jets).
Anyway, as I said in another thread, I take a shower every single day and have never taken off the watch during any of those.
No issues here, all fine with my watch.
It happened a couple of times that it rebooted itself but it was sufficient to turn it off and on and all was good.
I try not to wash it with any soap, but I don't sweat it if it happens now and then.
All this to say if your unit has water penetrating by showering, it may be defective.
On the Sony site they say " You can therefore use the device in dusty environments, when your fingers are wet, and in extreme weather conditions, for example, when it’s snowing or raining, or when humidity levels are high. See the table below for more details.", and I wouldn't classify taking a shower as "extreme condition".

Are these wires coming out of my phone???

This could either be the stupidest question ever or one of the more interesting issues I've ever ran into. I just took my case off of my phone only to find little threads stick between the glass and the metal frame. Whatever they are, they seem to be stuck in there (I don't wanna pull but I did poke at them) leaving me to believe they are wires and not just some type of fuzz. Has anyone seen this before? ??

Edit:
It seems that in fact they are wires. And I've realized that if you put a little pressure on the frame it will move. I guess from taking my case off (spigen clear case) it provided enough room for them to poke out. I'm trying to get them back in
Edit 2:
After looking at this picture from ifixit I'm starting to wonder what there are loose wires in the first place
I'd call Samsung and ask for a new phone if you don't have a warranty.
I can't stand that we aren't able to take the back off in the first place.

There are no wires that exist like that inside the phone. I dont have the phone to look at.....but I would expect them to be some kind of threads from your pocket or your bag or whatever else you have been putting your phone in. Maybe fibreglass spacer in the phone or something from outside.
Wires require ends to be connected...or they are not doing anything anyway....hence just pull them out / cut them off.

One of the 'wires/threads' did fall out.. and looking at the ifixit teardown I do see how there aren't any lose wires. So i'm starting to agree with you. For right now I just put my case back on because I don't have time to really look at them right now until around 6 EST.

Casting my vote for beard. Which might be a cause for concern, that doesn't seem like it would be within the build tolerance for this phone...
tell your gf to stop using her phone as a vibrator.
Lint...
If those were really broken wires (which would not be formed like that (they would be braided or twisted (that seems single strand))) then you would have all sorts of problems with reception.
Are you getting reception?
I had the same issue with my phone but they were a different color because of being in my pant pockets.
