Virtualhome - Galaxy S6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there a dev that can make a tweak to use the fingerprint scanner as the homebutton , so that we don't actually have to press the button but just touch it ?

This was honestly one of the first things I wished as I bought the S6... I find myself often trying to press the home key as if it was capacitive (Previous Nexus 5 owner).
I'd pay for this!

The reason I'm asking is because I've had a iPhone 6 and there was a tweak that called "virtual home" that did what I'm asking here and that was awesome. And if devs from ios can do it then devs from android certainly can lol

+1, i loved that tweak on my iphone 6

+100 also from my side!
please, if some developer could do this!!!
I am trying to read news in the night and the clicking noise is really disturbing my wife next to me in the bed...

nobody...? :-/

Guess not

give the developers some time....the phone is still new, there is only a couple of custom roms....i bet eventually they will find something.....

Keyboard sounds?

I'm looking for an app that will add typing sounds of some kind while using the hardware keyboard on my G1. I'm coming from a modded, OpenTouch flashed and overclocked HTC Herald/T-Mobile Wing which had the option to add sounds for hardware button presses. I'm a big guy with BIG hands- my two thumbs placed together stretch from the "A" to the "L" on the G1 keyboard. The G1's keys are smaller and don't have the healthy, positive feeling "click" that my old Wing/Herald did, which makes it hard for my big ass thumbs to register if I've depressed the button. I end up backspacing a lot to correct double typed or missed letters. Having sounds would help sooooo much. Even the same sound you can set for screen touches would be perfect.
Does something like this exist? Could an app be made?
~edit~
Just realized I should have posted this in the apps forum....sorry! Move if needed!
hmm good post. I would like to know this as well, would be a great feature addition.
maybe someone can create a sound not when it opens but when ever the screen is rotated?just a thought

no offense, but that wouldn't really help the OP
and it would be a nice feature. god knows how you'd do it though
This would be an absolute must have app for me....I'd pay for it without a second thought.
ttt....
My hope is that some super secret squirrel developer will see this and whip out the appropriate app and beam to my phone in 3.2 seconds. lol

its quite possible to do it. i dont know how though
in the coding, there is a keyboardhidden and keyboardexposed recognization...
we just need to find a dev interested in it
i would like this also!
i love using the on screen keyboard because of all the sounds and the different ones for space and delete and if i could have it on my hard keyboard also i would most definitely pay
You guys know about Haykuros keyboard mod? The one that gives the hard keyboard predictive text? It also gives you key pressing sounds like the VK does.
can you link us to this?
if you use haykuro's HTC IME you can tell it to make typing noises when you click the hardware or software keyboard.

Hope that this helps.

[DEVELOPED!!] Proximity sensor + Lockscreen = no more button accidents

YESSS it's HERE!!!!
All credits to exidler!!!! Thanx man!!
I saw this question somewhere else, but i just could'nt find it. So i thought let's start the idea again...
The idea is to have the proximity sens enabled in the wm6.5 lockscreen! Why? To disable the screen and hard buttons! That way if your HD2 is in your pocket, the screen won't go on if u press hard buttons on accident... see.
This would also be a nice feature if you get an incoming call, it happens to me very often, when i have my HD2 in my jeans and want to pick up a call, i often press the end call when pulling out the HD2 out of the pocket.... very frustrating!!!
Is there someone out there who is able to create an app/ tweak like this???
Thread you mentioned was open by me, but no solution for now. Btw proximity sensor isn't a bad idea, I can code in VB .net, but I don't know how use the sensor with the code! I hope there will be a more skilled programmer here!
The solution for now was called S2U2
yeah... any skilled programmer/ developer over here???
Yep, that's a great idea. Shame I can't do it myself

not that easy mate.. how about the lcd going on all the time in your pocket...
htc just needs to add button lock in there rom.
So you can only poweron poweroff the screen using the power button.

I agree, but only when nothing cover the proximity sensor, otherwise the phone will switch on and off in your pocket a lot of time!!
BTW, tha't incredible!!! Why HTC doesn't implement this basic function in their roms?? Really, I don't know!

hi to all,
I have check, pocketshield (latest beta) S2U2, smartlock and some more other
all of then have the same problem, they can not lock the answer key, so in case you have and incall and the phone is on your pocket you can accidentally pick up the call.
pocketshild developer has tall me that it's waiting for HTC to release a hotfix.

BTW, if anyone finds a solution please post it here

Good to hear...
But why are they waiting??? is it possible that HTC knows about this prob?? Would be nice if HTC developed this theirselves... prox sensor to switch off the LCD and hard buttons in incall AND in Lockscreen!!!
Or come on XDA Developers!!! One of u guys or galls have the power!!!
I certainly don't like the idea of using a full-blown locker like Pocket Shield or S2U2 for this purpose, so hopefully somebody will come up with a way to trap those darned buttons that can be used outside of those programs. Unfortunately I haven't been able to figure out why standard hooks fail...
hi
for me the real question is, why the htc dialer does have a slider but it does not lock the answer and end call keys when reciving a call ?
if htc developers didn't think about it why are they going to fix it ? I don't think we will get a hotfix ...
anyway if anyone find a solution .. please post
thanks
I don't think HTC is going to "fix" it, it's not a bug, it's a design [in]decision. It's been the case with all their phones since the times when dinosaurs ruled the Earth.

Android Dev for ChaCha

Custom ROMs for the ChaCha? That'd be cool!
yeah! can't wait to get this chacha!
Oh yeah, i can't wait to buy this phone. I hope some devs will care about the ChaCha.
I, too, cant wait to get it. My only concern with it is the hardware keyboard and its durability. Before i got myself a Wildfire i used Blackberries. Since i message a lot and use email quite extensively on the phone, the hardware keyboard tends to deteriorate after a year or so. Will see after i get it myself. In any case my trusty wildfire is still alive and kicking now as it was the day i bought it. It should be interesting to see how this combination of touchscreen and hardware keyboard performs.

No need to be rude
you keep a phone for a year
I can't get past a month LOL
I'd be very interested in helping with this. I'd like to bring the battery calibration bits to this phone/battery too
I will probably start developing for ChaCha in 2 weeks, if I manage to get the money I need. So I'm with you guys
The QWERTY / hardware keyboard is the flimsiest I've tried yet. I've had Palm Treo, Centro, Pre, motorola Charm - and tried Blackberries. these are ALL superior.
The keys are OK but it's easy to press a key without meaning too - and the right arrow is kind of less clicky than all the other keys (I confirmed this bug on three ChaChas in HTC's concept store hands-on in Copenhagen.
Sometimes it instantly deletes the whole text because Fn (called Alt outside europe) before Del means erase ALL - this happens when you don't know that Fn is on and want to delete a letter - PUFF! the whole dang text is gone (and unlike iPad - no undo ).
It's easily dropped vertically - the dry metal is edge/grip-less or slippery. almost like the Pre but feels "dry".
The screen is good, the touchscreen reacts consitently (unlike Charm and Wildfire/Buzz where touch don't work on the table and on some chargers - works ONLY when they're held) and the angled shaped is nice. The software speed/response is fine, the cam and video quality is good. speaker is sharp though. Volume buttons are impossible to use without looking - can't feel them.
can't find a better android qwerty though WITH arrow keys (though selections made using shift+arrow can ONLY be deleted - not copy pasted...wtf?).
there's a qwerty bar android list here: http://gadgetwit.com
(I too have the symbol-stays-on-screen bug mentioned in the general/First impressions thread but it disappears when I go to another app and back)

Fn will delete the line of text back to column 1, but you are right that the absence of an Undo is extremely annoying! And I agree with the majority of your points.

"Phantom Buttons"

So, I was recently reading about how the One will (at some point) be able to be hacked so that the HTC logo can be used as a button. Somewhere around page 4 in the thread, an EVO 4G LTE owner mentioned that there was a ROM for their phone where someone created two "phantom buttons" between the 3 buttons. This was possible (for those who don't know) because the entire bottom portion of the bezel is touch sensitive. This can be seen by dragging the ring on the the lockscreen of Sense ROMs of the screen and still being able to control it. Also, I'm assuming, sweep2wake is made using this same principle.
So my point is, do any developers have any ideas if it would be possible to create these so called "phantom buttons" for our phones? I'm not a dev so I can't help accomplish this, but it's an interesting idea Imo that I felt I'd put out there.
I thought months ago when beastmode kernel was still being worked on by sbryan that he implemented something like that. I can't remember what happened or if I'm just completely wrong.
I've heard talks about it but with regards to sweep to wake widths.
Sent from my HTC One XL
Should be possible, just part of the digitizer.
Sent from the HOXL dimension of S-OFF
In my phone too the panel below the screen is touch sensitive
Sent from my rooted A52 with xzoom 3.0 rom
Start from the beginning of the cm10 thread. (Not 10.1)
This was used before it was official and the remap of the app switch key was implemented. Basically it was like an x y coordinate on the digitizer, that the phone was told there was a button there.

You could use one as a menu button and use the multitasking button as... A multitasking button. Also, a dedicated camera or Google Now button.
I would make a xda button, or perhaps male it start playing terminator 2 from when I left off.
Sent from my HTC One XL
A dedicated camera button would be nice.
Menu and search. I really miss the search button, believe it or not..
This post was created and transmitted completely in analog.
Yes, its possible and quite easy to add. vmagro (vinvinvinster) did something like this when he was doing CM9 back in the first few months of AOSP since at that point a button remap was not yet decided.
Thing is though, that it modifies the ROM's frameworks so it probably won't make it into any official builds. ever. And even if it was added, it could only act as either:
HOME
MENU
BACK
SEARCH
APPSWITCH
I believe that is it. I guess a MENU and SEARCH buttons could be made between the buttons if desired, but again, it would probably just lead to much more user confusion and stuff. Not sure if its worth it.

What are you looking forward to..

On the 6.0 update?
For me...
1. Faster fingerprint reader/unlock animation
2. New keyboard layout
3. Finally having an option to switch to pin code for alternative option if fingerprint isnt working
4. Adjustments on touchwiz
5. Google now on tap
6. New emojis
7.Faster phone ?? (hopefully)
Is speed an issue? My Note5 is smooth and quick. *shrug* Now on Tap is actually pretty cool. I don't use a protective lock screen so I don't know about that. I'd like to be able to activate Samsung Pay with a swipe up from the S-View window, but that won't happen.

Speed is definitely not an issue lol, but there are somethings that need a speed improvement.. such as the fingerprint reader. I just hope i dont see any lag. Im assuming you use Find my mobile? if you dont use a protective lock screen. And i dont use samsung pay or NFC payment for that matter, but i understand your struggle haha.
I could root my device, but i choose not to. Reason being is it will possibly lose value once Knox has been tripped.

I do use Find my Mobile but I also use this https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rickclephas.fingersecurity to lock certain apps. It only locks those apps when I am not connected to my WiFi or my cars Bluetooth. Maybe with the new fingerprint API I'll lock the whole phone up.
I also noticed when watching marshmallow beta for s6/s6 edge is that the capacitive buttons dont light up when touching the screen... which is a smart move from samsung. It saves battery and it makes sense. It only lights up when pressing them or when pressing the home button.

Actually it makes no sense, whatsoever. The entire point of the capacitive buttons lighting up when you touch the screen is so you can see them in the dark in order to press them.. lighting up when you touch them makes zero sense, why would I need them to do THAT?

They didn't light up because it was a Beta and the rooted kernel broke it even more on some devices, but made them work better on other devices. There's also mods you can use to just turn them off if you don't like them. Xposed. Or just go into the settings!!!
Also, just because you don't like them being on, doesn't mean that they are pointless. Tests have also been done to see just how much battery life is affected by Capacitive buttons and you can't even tell how much they use.
By the way, a lot of people like myself, work in dark places and have to use our phones. Think about that for a minute.:good:
The only thing I'm looking forward to is a phone that doesn't get an update and have it cause the phone to be worse than before. Right now my stock Note 5 works just fine.
