When I start any camera app on my Lumia 1020 the picture is blurry if I'm pointing the camera at anything over 6 inches away or so. When I push the camera button in it attempts to focus. Sometimes it will focus on distant objects the way it should, but most of the time it does not and everything stays blurry.
I can't click any scenery images because it dosent focus .i can click macro/near images without any problem .
ill upload some pics
this are the images which i was able to focus without any problems

Tried factory reset too.no use.
Welcome to the Lumia 1020 Forum first and foremost..
Second, this is actually a hardware problem with the camera unfortunately.
You can focus up close because the camera lens has shifted too far away from the sensor. This allows really close up images, but when it comes to infinity focusing (landscapes and images further than 5 feet) you cannot get autofocus far away and cannot get it to focus to infinity..
Sadly since this is a HARDWARE problem you have to replace the camera on the phone.
Wish I could give you better news than this.
Cheers

yes I did gave my phone to Nokia care , they checked and told me that camera is faulty and needs to replaced so I said yes , but later even after changing camera did not solve the problem , so they said PCB -Main board needs to be replaced,so I sold the phone .
I will buy refurbished phone from ebay soon .
Thanks for reply .
Infinity focus problem can be solved by choosing manual focus and then moving the slider till you see the "m" symbol. do not slide into the "infinity" symbol, just before that.

I've opened a thread here describing this problem. Maybe it could help you
I too have same problem with camera... sad to know its a hardware problm... sucks
The so called distortion there is when trying to take a photo with the XZP camera is common to all smartphone cameras. And this distortion disappears when entering Video mode. Test it for yourself using this target:
https://static.bhphotovideo.com/explora/sites/default/files/bandh-test-target.jpg
You don't even need to take a picture. Just check the target first in Photo Mode, and then switch to Video Camera. You will see that in Video mode, there are no distortions.
Obviously this is not a lens issue but a software issue. They could fix it with an update.
I don't think you're aware that there are more than one lens in a camera lol

Ummmm, I am no camera expert (as you no doubt are) but with a single lens camera ALL images are going through all the lenses (if there is more than one) as they are stacked one on top of the other! It's not as if one lens is moving out of the way while another one goes to work. LOL

Exactly.
@nomailx this has been discussed at lenght in several forums. Partially, you are right. A fix is possible with a software update but life is never black or white, sdadly.
The tech that is fixing distortion in Video mode is Sony's magical stabilization algorithm(parts of it anyway). For a huge variety of reasons, it is off during picture mode.
I am fairly confident they were aware of the minor (yep, we've seen much worse on smartphones) distortion and decided to go with it, as fixing that would take away from somth else. Balance in the universe and all that..
If they decide to tweak or not, we are yet to see.
Hi all
Does the latest firmware fix this problem?

Actually, it would be more accurate to say that it is a lens issue, but it's a lens issue that most smartphone lenses will have.
Normally it should be corrected for in software with a profile of the specific distortion of the lens, but for some reason Sony haven't done this.

This is ...
... correct.
But only Sony would put the best wide lens camera without a proper software. Cause they're too busy to ... Actually I have no idea about what they're doing. Even they don't know what they're doing.
And maybe you may have heard the Actual XZ Premium's Speakers capabilities when listening to a "not so common" HD Audio file and wonder: Wait what? The Speakers can sound like that? But then why they don't sound like that with 95% of the media and Apps. Again, Sony's failing on the software department.
Hello everyone,
The photos from Snapchat specially with the front camera turn out to be quite grainy. Updated to the latest version and still the same issue. Anyone experiencing the same? And is there a probable fix? Any help would be much appreciated, thank you.
I have the same issue. They fixed it for a while but it appeared again on last update
i have same issue too. front cam is normally bad also in default app, but on snapchat it is awful

Front camera is not normally bad in default app, you must have software or hardware issue. This is a Snapchat issue, you should probably email developer.

I mean against the main camera. front is not so good. i tested it with 4-5 devices at same quality level they are all slightly better in terms of front camera. i dont know my device has problem or not but, i couldn't take clear photo in close-up. it seems little bit blurry

Of course the rear camera is going to be better than the front camera. You can not take close up pictures with the front(selfie cam). Phone needs to be at least a foot away(arms length is better).
Threes definitely an issue with Snapchat and the front camera on this phone. The photos are ridiculously grainy and much worse than front photos taken with the stock camera app.
Yes it is. Snapchat team needs to fix that on their software. But I don't think that it will be soon

Hi,
I received my Mi Note 10 and I've been testing the camera. Am I the only one that thinks that while taking normal outside pictures (27mp mode) the image taken has lots of blurriness and distortion? As of now I'm not really enjoying the phone.
Came from a Mi Note 3 which took amazing pictures.

Yes, I'm going through the same thing ... I can't get clear answers on this subject. Only thing I know the camera aperture is too big so taking close-up shots of the blur is terribly bad, I don't know if future updates will fix it. I came from a Mi 9 and his pictures were better than the Mi Note 10
You need to understand the implication applied when camera using a larger sensor. This is not only about apperture and lenses. I explain it in other thread.
But there is nothing we can do, even in Pro mode? We cannot setup the aperture, so the depth of field is quite ridiculous. Can have a clear picture of a bottle label if the camera is not exactly parallel lol
Is there something we can do to mitigate?

no you can't if they're blurry. i would also like to be able to take photos, where everything is in focus.

I think he is being fair enough though. Because what you expect is like using a fix apperture lens on a full frame DSLR, and still expecting a result with wide depth of field unconditionally.
It's simply against the principal and law of the photography physics itself.
If you really need that, then you gonna need phone with either : smaller sensor, or less bright lens, or both.
I don't think it is, it's a question of software. I was sitting at a table wanting to take a photo of our cocktails. Mine was in focus, the one right behind already blurred. I understand that physically this is normal, but software should be able to take a photo with everything in focus.

Nah. You can think what you like then. The physics wont change. And every people who understand the theory behind depth of field, will agree.
I know what you expect the software to do though. Sharpen the object in background or do focus stacking. As for sharpening, it' just a pseudo focus, and i rather not having it at all. Focus stacking, though, is considerable,
If thats what you like, then just get yourself a photoshop and do some layer masking job, because no stock smartphone camera app implement focus stacking AFAIK. The closer you can get is by using "Open Camera" app and use the focus bracketing software.
You can 'kind of' fix the effect in software by using focus bracketing. Open Camera supports this and you specify how many photos to take and it will take that number at different focal lengths. Then you process the images with some stacking software like Helicon Focus which produces an image with a huge depth of field.
Of course, this is all more complicated than just pointing and pressing. A nice feature would be if the camera software takes all the photos and stacks them for you, but I doubt any camera software will do all this for you..
Cheers
Steve
Mine had a focusing problem and what I did? I’ve changed to full mode instead of 3:4. Regarding the focusing around the center, I don’t think there is a solution than using more the portrait mode.
I’m not a camera guy so these setting were enough for me.

What are you talking about
Here are one picture taken from me i dont think is blurry
Everything looks in focus
Hey guys, Got my phone 2 days back. I received a software update the very moment I signed in and I did.
Later through the day I went on checking the cameras. I was in a medium to low lit room and I could see the front camera was blurry. So I tried taking pictures but they did turn out well. I tried gcam but the viewfinder was still the same blurred with good shots after the photo was clicked.
I went outside to check the camera and I could see the viewfinder preview was sharp as it looks on my op5. I went back to the low lit room and the viewfinder turned blurry again. Also I tried video calling and the receiver told me that my video looked like some low frame rate camera.
I received an update later which reduced the blur effect a little but it's very much noticeable.
Anybody else has this issue?
Sorry for the long post. Just wanted to be as detailed as possible.
Also I'm not sure if it's a hardware issue. If it's a hardware issue the viewfinder should've been blurred in good light too right?
Also photos when clicked in low-light come out good. The issue is with the viewfinder only.
I'm sceptical of getting a replacement if it's not a hardware issue due to the lockdown delay and all and since it's from OnePlus site I don't get the return option either like Amazon.
Please share your valuable thoughts regarding this and if anyone else's facing the same issue.
Seems like nobody has the issue. So I might rma the device.
Thanks people

I am still trying to understand if this is an hardware problem or software. I wrote on a forum and they told me "sometimes blurry, but its okay with the colours" and another "whatsapp videocalls were always pretty bad, but I faced issue with blurry camera only at night". People answered me like if this is normal for a 1000€ phone...I come from one plus 7t pro and the front camera was better. I don't know what to do, I wait some days to find more discussion about this, if this is an hardware problem I try to replace otherwise I will ask refund...
I'm pretty sure the 7T & both 8s use the same font camera sensor (Sony imx471) so the images should be similar depending on software.

Actually the photos in low light turn out good once you've captured them. They're blurry only in the viewfinder. As such video calls are also blurry since what you see on the viewfinder is what the receiver gets.
To top it all the viewfinder is sharp when it's good lighting out there. The issue is only with medium to low light
Hi, i am facing the exact same problem. I got my phone (OnePlus 8) two days back and I started having second thoughts. I really hope it's a software issue. Spent a lot on this device.
I just bought one plus 8 and I am feeling so regretful as I figured out my front camera blurry, I don't know what should i do
Should I wait for software update?

I had a pixel2xl before the one plus 8. When I compared the quality of the photos in general, I thought that the one plus 8 must be broken. we agree that the camera of the one plus 8 is simply ****...
