How i can make my nexus caf ? - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

can i convert aosp kernal to caf ? and how ?

Flash a CM based rom. CM is caf.
You can't run a caf kernel on an aosp or stock based rom.... As far as I know.
There's custom kernels for aosp or caf... But again, you need the correct kernel for the rom you're using.

Build the ROM/kernel from CAF repositories or cherry-pick a whole lot of CAF commits from them.

Can't help there. Never heard of that. No longer own an N5.
Did you look through or search the cm12 thread for similar issues?

You need twrp for caf-based ROMs. Search the forum for it.

[Q] Kernel Questions

Guys i have two question..Whats the difference between All other ROMs and Custom IO control (CM tweak)
links from https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AntDDKv-lS6IdEt6NWVkX01vNmpfbEh4MHo4eDRCbXc#gid=0
And the second one is to flash the kernel i must first flash kernel and then the rom or first the rom and then the kernel??Thnx
Cm tweak is for cm based ROMs, all others is for, well, all others. Flash kernel after flashing ROM.

How i will find which roms are CM based?
Read the thread about the ROM you are interested in. If I'm not familiar with a ROM, i generally read the first page and the last few pages. That way I see what the dev says about it, and see more recent reviews/comments about the current version

[Q] Mahdi rom

Does the Mahdi Rom work with Franco Kernel R4? I have this kernel on my stock 1+1 64gb international version. Reading on the developer forums some say yes and some say no that it causes reboot issues. I am just trying to get some clarification on this issue. Thanks

Do I need to add the kernel off the op page or just use the one I already have in twrp, it is the Franco kernel r4. It is the same one that is on op page I think. I see some people talking about dr87 twrp. I just have the stock 2.7.1.0 twrp installed. Do I need the dr87 twrp? Sorry for the noob questions just trying to it get right. Thanks

Use dr87 twrp and dr87 franco kernel r4.
I'm using both on MAHDI and it works perfectly.

Just one more question. Do you flash the dr87 twrp right over the stock twrp or do you have to remove the stock twrp? Thanks for the quick reply and all the help.

It doesn't matter what recovery you have prior to flashing, flashing dr87 twrp will override whatever recovery you were using before. Fastboot flash it or use the flashable zip to flash it. Up to you.

I flashed the dr87 Franco kernel today and never got past the one+ screen on boot up. I was just wondering if I needed to flash Mahdi rom first and then flash the dr87 Franco kernel? I did get the dr87 twrp installed and all is well with that. I re- flashed the Franco kernel r4 and I'm still on the stock cm rom and everything is good. After reading the MAHDI ROM forum it seems they are having problems with this.

Simply follow the steps in the MAHDI OP post.
Its pretty much.
1. Factory Wipe
2. Flash MAHDI then gapps or kernel (doesnt matter if u flash gapps or kernel first).

Are they getting all the bugs worked out of this and is it ready to roll? I kinda have been waiting a little while to see how everything is going to play out. It seems like it is getting better and better. Let me know how you feel about it. Thanks

Correct, CM based roms need CAF kernels. There are 2 types of kernel for the N5
Stock/AOSP (example, Franco)
CM/CAF (example Chaos)
They are not interchangeable.
Mahdi is an AOSP ROM

Its AOSP with CAF stuff in it. Just flash one and if it doesn't boot reflash the ROM and flash the other.
Thanks

Make a backup, flash. If it doesn't boot then it isn't compatible.

make a backup in recovery and just flash the darn kernel. if its not compatible, it wont boot. then you can either flash a known booting kernel or restore the backup you made in recovery. that's the quickest way to find your answer.

Haha this really is a good question though. I myself didn't know either. I had been under the impression it was full AOSP.
Last time I ran Franco kernel on it though all was fine.

Quite a few ROMs say AOSP but have CAF parts lol. Rarely are ROMs full CAF though, the only one that I know of is CM of course. Some AOSP kernels work with hybrids and some only do after modification.
An AOSP Dalvik will only boot up on full AOSP ROMs so it the Z2 Dalvik boots, it's full AOSP. If a CAF Dalvik boots, it's either hybrid or full. Nice way to tell

Custom kernel flashing

Hi guys!
I'm using the lastest MIUI 7 Rom and i was wondering if I flash a custom kernel like Sensei, will the rom still work?
Also, if I flash CM13 with that kernel and then I want to go back to MIUI, will I have to flash the stock kernel?
Thanks!

My kernel works only with Miui6 as reported by @davtse as the're significant improvements on the partitions of Miui7... You don't have to flash back stock, just use MiFlash and it will handle all the fuzz of flashing back Miui.
Hope this answers your question.
