I bought this off eBay and it has the Kevlar vase, red trim, Ferrari logo on the screen and face, but it seems to be some type of internal TMOUS test model.
There's nothing printed on the battery cover and it shows up as a "XT939" on my PC and it has 16GB internal memory.
I wouldn't care, but the IMEI is "0", but it still makes and receives calls just fine with a TMOUS and an H2O SIM card.
Attached are some screens of the info, the "set up IMEI" screen that pops up after a factory reset (I just dismissed it and it still works just fine even with the IMEI still showing 0) and some proprietary software that is loaded.
Question. since it works now with my T-Mobile and H2O SIM, should I be worried that the "zero" IMEI might be a problem in the future?
Has anyone seen this sort of thing before?
TIA for any thoughts or ideas.
That's pretty awesome!

Thanks. I always wanted a Ferrari Moto G, but they were always scarce and expensive. So when I bought this one for cheap, the guy put up the identical auctions right after and used the same pics and descriptions. I was sure I got ripped off, but I did get it eventually.
I have read so many threads on people losing their IMEI when they flash the wrong ROM and not being able to access the phone radio, I can't understand why this works just fine with the 0 IMEI and that "program your IMEI" app that pops up.
This looks interesting. Take a full nandroid backup of everything in case this phone has a somewhat different firmware. Maybe is a test unit?

It's not rooted. I'm afraid to mess with it because of the IMEI "0" thing. Right now it behaves as carrier unlocked despite a null IMEI and survives a factory reset - I don't want to lose that.
Rootchecker says not rooted.
But CPU-Z says it is.
I installed SuperSU and it has super user checked, but I can't run nandroid because it says It's not rooted.
I'm probably not going to keep it, but I figured some stuff out.
1. It's not really a Ferrari Moto G - not like the ones sold in MX. Those had 4G, 16GB and an SD slot, IIRC.
2. This is only 3G, has a 12GB storage (10 usuable) and mo expansion slot/
3. This has T-Mobile Visual Voicemail built-in app - the MX Ferrari Moto G would have never had that.
My conclusion is that this is a test mule for T-Mo when maybe they were considering selling a Ferrari edition in the US.
Tough call to return it. It's a neat toy and unique, but like I said - it's so bizarre that I'd never be able to flip it.
Just that Ferrari shell would be worth quite some dollars if you ask me. Really, why hadn't Moto put Kevlar on the regular Gs...

Yes, I just saw that on Moto's site that it's 3G. Many sources report it as a Moto G 4G LTE with 16GB internal - not sure how that became the status quo.

sure. but photon 4g thing (insert abroad sim card and use it) really impressed me, that's why the question was asked
I live outside US, most people here uses GSM network, that's why some "global phone / world phone" that released in US, can be use here.
but, that phones has "removable" SIM Card, which is simply put GSM SIM Card inside these phones than we can use it in my country.
personally, I use Droid Incre2 and Photon 4G but, would like to try this new Photon Q. Since it just came out on Sunday (August 19), there's not much info about the "global phone" capabilities, except the "embedded / soldered SIM Card"??
would u mind guys, to show us here, what kind of this "embedded / soledered SIM Card" looks like? do we still can see the SIM Card inside the phone? or not?
If it's true non-removable SIM Card, looks like I can't use this phone outside US, except I use it in CDMA network only

Unless a method is discovered to safely remove the SIM and carrier unlock the phone to accept a generic SIM, I don't don't this device is going to be for you.
Its unknown yet as the only way of really knowing is voiding the warranty by removing the battery. Our answer is under the battery

the first chance i get at work, im going to take this baby apart and see if the sim card is actually removable or if it's just an aproximation of a simcard integrated into the board.

hi all...
I'd like to buy photon q for parts - bad esn / water damage ...etc.
I need it for check board for possibility connect sim slot.
...let me know
GSM SIM
I stay outside US where GSM is the way of life.
Get a GSM SIM, insert in any handset and start using.
Anyway I will be able to do the same with this handset??
....maybe....but first must i see full service manual, or board
If the first Photon 4G could be used successfully with GSM connections, it should be possible with this one too right? Is anything fundamentally different between the two?

AFAIK, Photon Q uses "embedded SIM Card", there is no slot for usual SIM Card. The GSM network will run on this baby but via Sprint's roaming capabilities..which means, it can be use outside US for GSM Service but still in Sprint's network..
I got a refurbished Xoom MZ601 WiFi + 3G from Amazon and it arrived today. The device looks brand-new and untouched, even the plastic was still on it and the screen. Great, I thought, until I powered it on and it was in German. I should have been tipped off by the EU power adapter in the box, although there was a US power cord as well.
Anyway, there was no option to change the language to English, fortunately I'm fluent in German and was able to update the OS to 4.0.4 and then the English (US) language option was available.
So here's the thing: the tablet works perfectly, except for one thing: there's a Verizon 4G LTE SIM in the device, but there does not seem to be any evidence of EvDO, even though that's what I thought I had purchased. I've tried using mobile data, but the only two networks the device sees are AT&T and T-Mobile. Removing the SIM card has no effect on the function of the device, but no 3G or 4G, for that matter.
So here are my questions:
- Is it possible that this is a U.S. version that was flashed to a different software, making the CDMA hardware invisible to the OS? I'm thinking this is a possibility, since AT&T and T-Mobile use micro-SIM cards for 4G, not mini-SIM cards, which is what is in there now.
- Is there some sort of diagnostic app that will scan and show me exactly what hardware IS in the device?
- Would some kind of serial number or baseband version information be able to tell me what it is?
- And finally, what are my options? If this isn't a Verizon device, that won't help me, as that's what I thought I was getting. If this can't be resolved by me, I'll have to send it back. I'm reluctant to do this until I'm absolutely sure there aren't any other options because the device is otherwise showroom new!
I'm new to the Android OS, so any help I can get is appreciated!
Well, post the details in the 'about' section of settings.

Which is why you shouldn't purchase a non compatible phone, for use in another area?
This is why you shouldn't buy this phone from the scalpers. The chinese version does not support many of the worldwide bands that the "global" version of the phone does. My advice would be to try to sell it to someone who can use it and sign up on the OnePlus forums and wait for an invite for the CM version which supports the bands you need.
Get a new sim, sounds like an old sim that doesn't have the updated CellID info in it.
I had to change my 3 sim when I had my SGS4 as it wouldn't register because it was too old.

I had that happen to me on the interational one and felt quite dumb afterwards...
Make sure the SIM card tray is rotated DOWN so that the contacts on the sim card look to the back of the phone.
It will fit both ways (imho a very strange design choice) but with a tiny little space left when rotated the wrong way.
In other words: turn the phone on it's screen before inserting the sim card facing you.
I have _NO_ clue why the phone thinks it has a SIM card when obviously it cannot access it...

2 months ago a friend of mine bought himself a bad esn motorola droid ultra for Verizon carrier on ebay and it works for T-mobile and AT&T just fine. His droid ultra was running stock android 4.2.2. Just recently I bought myself a bad esn motorola droid ultra for verizon on craigslist that's running android 4.4.4. I'm with T-mobile service, but I like verizon phones so I bought it thinking that it would work for T-mobile. Unfortunately to my surprise when I put in my T-mobile nano simcard, I notice that for the first 2 seconds it would seem like it's connecting because I can see two white bars then all of a sudden it would vanish. And all I see is a black triangle with dark-gray lines next to the wifi signal indicator, and not only that but I would also see something that reads: RESTRICTED ACCESS CHANGED on the upper top left corner. I tried changing the settings to GSM only and still that doesn't work. I tried using the Phone Info app to tweak the settings and still that doesn't work. So my best guesses are 1) sim tray is bad. 2) it has a bad esn so verizon blocked the phone from being used because an Apple tech person told me that Verizon, T-mobile, and AT&T shares one database where they keep and block all bad esn phones. 3) Motorola disabled the gsm radio on the 4.4.4 android update because Verizon didn't want people on T-mobile service using this particular droid ultra phone on the T-mobile network, so that's why Motorola was so quick to release the 4.4.4 android update for it. Well what other reasons for it not working for T-mobile I don't know. I guess I'm stuck with a giant ipod-touch like android media player. Any suggestions on how to get T-mobile to work on it would be great.

Just went tried it with an AT&T nano sim-card from my brother's iphone 5, and the droid ultra was able to pick up signal; and make phone calls and send text messages right off the bat. I figure it could be my T-mobile card so I went and bought a regular standard size T-mobile sim-card, and had it trim down into a nano size sim-card; but unfortunately it still wouldn't work. So my guess is that in order for the droid ultra to recognize the T-mobile sim-card it has to be an original nano sim-card. I will go to Tmobile store and buy a nano sim-card and see if it will make any difference. Thanks for your suggestion.

Dude any bad esn from verizon is not going to work with tmobile anymore. T-Mobile and verizon now share block list. At&t doesn't share verizon's bad imei thats why it works with at&t. Before Verizon bad esn phones worked with T-Mobile now it doesn't.

Hello, I'll keep it simple to make your time useful, thanks for taking a look.
I had this phone on my dad's hands for a year, I gave him an AOSPExtended ROM and it worked wonderfully for the time he used it.
Now, my sister received this same phone from my dad two days ago, as he switched to a newer phone, and she asked me to put another ROM on it.
Important to notice, both have the same carrier, "Claro".
So, I searched for one, and I found this one: https://forum.xda-developers.com/20...sprey-lineageos-14-1-hardened-microg-t3767291
All good, I booted TWRP 3.3.1-0 and simply deleted all the partitions relevant using the TWRP phone GUI, that means, system data dalvik cache, media, all of it.
And then I just installed using "TWRP install" the new ROM with OpenGapps nano package, booted up, no problems so far, the ROM booted, the phone didn't explode, no biggie.
I set up the phone and ask for my sister's SIM card (this one was working fine on a Lineage OS MotoG2 7.1.2, the ROM I downloaded is also LOS 7.1.2), install it and...
No signal, nothing.
Alright, just delete dalvik, system, data, all over again and try again!
And it worked!
For a day... until the phone decided to loose signal (like, drop to 0 and disconnect from the antennas) and that was it for it, never found an antenna again.
So, I did what every sensible person would do, and I installed the RETAIL firmware for the phone, found here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/2015-moto-g/general/index-moto-g-factory-firmware-images-t3169639
using the XT1542 section, and downloading " Retail Latin America (1GB) - XT1542_OSPREY_RETLA_6.0_MPIS24.65-33.1-2-4_cid12 (Newer Build) "
Here, important to point out that there's no "Claro" build, only retail, personal, movistar, etc.
Ok, did all the steps pointed here: forum.xda-developers.com/2015-moto-g/general/guide-fastboot-flashing-factory-t3187750
Booted the phone. Made a quick setup
And still...
No cellular phone signal.
The SIM worked fine, everything worked fine.
But, something didn't work.
What should I do?
Retry again?
I retried a stock firmware flash and still the phone refuses to pick up any signal whatsoever.
It does recognize the SIM card and even finds "carriers" if I go to the "select mobile operator" or whatever is it in english, but when I press to select one, it just says "hihi no way mamey".

Hello Shadow,
1. Sadly this device is the only one I have, no other one of the same model available, and I find it implausible to find one without expending money.
2. I really don't know what to answer, the firmware I ran into it last time was the stock from the INDEX, specifically this one: Retail Latin America (1GB) - XT1542_OSPREY_RETLA_6.0_MPIS24.65-33.1-2-4_cid12 (Newer Build)
but later I had to come back to the LineageOS to leave the phone working again as it was before. So right now is running a custom ROM from here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/20...sprey-lineageos-14-1-hardened-microg-t3767291
3. I should've taken a screen capture of this before, sorry, I don't have that information ATM.
Would you mind telling me what should I do if I had a second Moto G 2015 to use, in case I find someone with one.

Went through morotola Argentina Service, scoundrels wanted me to take it to some asshat from the "official service", so screw them.
I'm trying to reach firmware.center but it's been with a bad SSL certificate since this problem started (I'm lucky haha...)

Ok, don't want to make the story to long.
My sister is dumb or the carriers are dumb.
My SIM card Claro carrier, works on her phone, and works on my phone.
HER SIM card, allegedly Claro, works on my phone (retail Pixel 3), and DOESN'T WORK on her's.
My bet, she doesn't even know what company she's running.
Thanks all.
The issue was somewhere else.
I didn't realize it because the SIM is a Claro SIM card, and also the App in the Android Menu states "Claro SIM", so was a hard guess.

Hola French y Beruti (haha greatest nickname ever).
Let me tell you that I had a similar problem with the same phone that worked well for years with Movistar and there was no way to use a Claro sim in it (its a no carrier dependant phone, I mean a "liberado" phone.
I spent hours with the Claro customer service and they told me that they could see my phone connected to their network but I had no signal. I tried other companies' sims and all worked fine.
I reconfigured the APN several times and Claro never worked in 4G, 3G, 2G or a half G.
So ... I'm using another company in this phone right now and the Claro sim is in my main phone working as expected (also a liberado one, but Samsung).
End of the story.
So don't burn your brain trying to make it work, Claro is a lost cause for me in this phone.
Maybe your sister can migrate her number to another company and even pay less. They normally use to offer a 50% discount during at least a year if you migrate the number to another company like movistar or personal.
Hope it helps you .
Saludos!!

Hello!
Turns out the story was even more complicated.
It seems that the phone it's IMEI locked by the EnaCom, because the phone was bought by my mother a few years ago, then I received that phone, and I used it, then my dad, and now my sister gets it.
The first three phone numbers work fine, we don't know why, and the Claro customer service doesn't want to issue an IMEI unlock.
This phone is still kicking and working fine, but for today's companies a perfectly working phone means nothing.
To be clear.
I place my SIM in the phone, signal works.
My dad's SIM card, works too...
My mom's SIM card, also works.
My sister's? Nope. Even though she is also from Claro.
So, it's a nice paper weight.

Hi, if the IMEI were blocked by Enacom you could not use any sim in that phone, not your sim, nor your father's, etc. So it's not a IMEI blocked situation in my opinion. I'm pretty sure that is a problem that Claro doesn't know how to solve, they are pretty incompetent btw, my daughter also had a similar problem with them but with an iPhone. So she migrated her number to Movistar and problem solved. Thank gosh portability exists!
I would suggest your sister to do the same, or at least say to Claro that she will migrate to another company. These words usually solves common problems magically
Saludos!
