[Q] Help - Facebook removes support for third party apps - General Questions and Answers

Hi all, recently Facebook has removed support for all third party messenger apps, not allowing them to connect to messages anymore:
On April 15th 2015, Facebook is making an update to their API (application program interface) that affects how AIM and other applications connect to Facebook.
As part of the API update, Facebook will remove support for third party clients like AIM to integrate with their chat feature. You will continue to receive Facebook notifications in your AIM Updates feed and everything else you’ve come to know and love about AIM will stay the same.
This is a major inconvenience for me as I have always utilised third party apps such as privy chat which offers features that the Facebook messenger app does not.
Is there anyway around this? Or alternatively, does anyone know of a way to read entire Facebook messages without the other person knowing you've read it?
Thanks to anyone that can help!

No guarantee it will work, just an idea. Why not try editing the files in the app? Maybe there is a file containing the servers(IP addresses)?

I'm honestly not quite sure how to do that, but I think the problem is Facebook not allowing apps to read messages anymore, leaving messenger as the only app to do so :/

Bump on the off chance someone may know a way around this

Facebook Video Upload

This feels like something which should be already built into the integrated Facebook app but it isn't. tried a few 3rd party apps like BBF Upload but the are all a bit rubbish. Videos too large to email via Googlemail. Only option remaining is to sideload to a PC and upload from there. Surely an easier way. Anyone got this working on the stock ROM?

I was having the same issue the other day. I also noticed the FB iphone app has the chat option. Why does the android version lack these essential features?

Not the perfect solution, but if you grab the new AIM beta on your desktop and enable FB Chat, and then install the AIM app from the market, you can use FB chat through aim on your phone. It actually works perfectly, been using it for about a month now.
And yea, I remember FBook [i think] having a video upload feature that actually worked, but I like the native FB app for everything else so much more.

Facebook Sync link to facebook app?

Hey guys!
Does anyone know if there is a way for the facebook tab for a contact to bring up the facebook app instead of launching the mobile facebook website?
For clarification: bring up a facebook linked contact in sense and click to view their profile, a comment, or an update. m.facebook launches in the browser for me. I would much prefer the facebook app instead.
Thanks!
This points out yet another reason to freaking uninstall that facebook app. It doesn't DO much does it?
I like the app and this seems like HTC's fault or maybe Google's. You know how when you have multiple apps duplicating functionality you get to choose which app handles each request and/or set default. Maybe Google needs to add an action for facebook?
Also the notifications that the facebook app fires off link to the mobile website instead of opening the app? What the?

No, this fault lies 99.996% on the Facebook app developers.
It's a sorry excuse for an official Facebook application in every right, especially when a 3rd party dev bests it with a limited SDK (See Babbler for Android).

New Facebook 15/12/10

Just checked my market updates, and there's an official Facebook update in the market (version 1.50)!

I'm not getting instant notifications either. Chat will come up, but nothing in the realm of push notifications. tested sending from from my wifes account to mine.
chat works great, push notifications doesn't work. still have to check app just for the notifications :/
Great for letting us know
Okay, a question about chat since I've never had it before through Facebook. How is your online status "toggled" while using chat?
So if I open up the facebook app, and look at my news feed, am I now online? And to go offline, do I physically have to go into facebook chat and click "go offline"?
Also, if I want to be on chat, but have it run in the background, how can I confirm that it's running?
The entire user interface seems very poor. Wouldn't the ability to toggle chat on/off and easily access conversations and your status from the notification bar be essential in this type of app?
notifications works fine for me... kinda odd though since the messages and other stuffs still uses interval... only the posts and such has push.

According to the Facebook page of Facebook for android, push notifications is only supported with android 2.2+

Yeah, I see that. But there's no "Go online" option, is there? So how do you ever know if your online or offline? I don't know, I'm used to Go!Chat. There should be some clear toggle option.
How about for people that never want to appear online?
For example, I just opened up facebook on my phone and hit chat. I guess I'm now online? So now I hit android home. Am I still online? How is there anyway of knowing? Online until when?
It's completely non-functional as a useful mobile chat app.
[edit]
I've also tried multiple times to close "active conversations", and they keep showing back up on all refreshes. I was looking forward to native facebook chat, but I'll stick with 3rd party apps until they can improve this.
Chat and Push both are working flawlessly on my Droid 2. Rooted but running a pretty much stock OS.
About time they got this one out. Was doing this with a blackberry almost 2 years ago. I am now able to remove about 4 apps that I was running in order to cover my FB account while mobile.
Nice work Devs!
Push notification working good on my evo. I was also using f plus and had it set for five minutes and I'm getting notification quicker with the official app
I download it from market but installation failed. Did I do anything wrong or it is caused by android build on HTC HD2?
Long conversations
And still it is not possible to have long conversations. Quite annoying

[Q] FriendCaster issue

Hi all,
Just installed the latest version on my Nexus S.
Compared to the official Facebook app, the Friendcaster is slower on updating the news feed.
Is this default behavior?
Or is it a known issue / limitation?
I also found that the news feed is not complete!
There were some post missing compared to the official FB apps.
That's because some people on Facebook block access to their profile or updates from third party apps, like FriendCaster. The app is still superior to the awful stock Facebook app, imho. But there are several lightweight Facebook apps that sandbox the mobile site if you're interested, like Tinfoil or FBM.

Ok, that means this FriendCaster is not good enough.
Too bad, I really like the layout, the themes, colors, etc.
But, if I miss information, then there is no point of using it.

Third party app for Facebook messaging?

For a while I've used the SlimFacebook app, basicly an app using the website but with some enhanced features. I like it alot, fast, battery friendly and doesn't need any permissions. The messenger app is another story though. Even though I can use it in SlimFacebook, the lack of notification makes it unconvenient to use when using chat. So I'm just wondering if there is any third party Facebook messenger app out there which has few permissions and is light on the phone? Currently Messenger is now using 170mb of ram on my device which is crazy!
Sorry if this is posted in the wrong forum part.
