Trying out Cyanogenmod - Xperia Z3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've decided to give Cyanogenmod and therefore will need to unlocl BL.
If i backup via TWRP on stock, can i restore this when on Cyanogenmod if i decide to come back to stock?
Or would i need to relock bootloader etc?

You can run stock on an unlocked bootloader. Just ensure you backup the boot. Img a week and restore it if you want to go back

And be careful with CM, it has some problems with the sound.
Don't use a maximum volume, it might blow your speakers, and this is not a joke.
Otherwise, CM is a good ROM.

No i mean PROPERLY go back lol
Like Locked Bootloader, DRM keys restored etc.
Is this possible from a stock TWRP backup, or would i manually need to relock, restore TWRP, then restore TA partition?

no the twrp backup only does the rom it doesn't do any TA partition or anything like that, you would have to relock the bootloader on a stock kernel, restore the TA partition and flash a stock ftf file

Return to Stock

Hi All,
I did a back-up before flashing Virtuous rom. If I want to go back to stock, do I just wipe everything, then restore the back- up through TWRP? I also downloaded somewhere stock boot.img. Not sure if I need that. Just making sure I won't brick my htc Butterfly(x920d)

just restore from the backup that's enough
You will need to flash that boot.img in fastboot also otherwise it may not boot or if its does, then some of the modules like wifi bluetooth may not turn on ... safer to flash the stock boot

[Q] nandroid with s-off, still need for flashing boot.img?

Just a little question.
if I do a nandroid with my phone (I'm on s-off) and want to return to this backup again..
can I only restore this nandroid and everything will work fine? without flashing boot.img?
example
sense backup -> go to cm 10.1 -> want to go back to sense -> restore -> done?
not sure what your last sentence means--
But, a nandroid is a full image backup of phone, everything will be restored
EDIT: Well at least everything you check in recovery, which is usually System/Data/Boot
I don't check Recovery or Cache. I am on TWRP 2.4.2.0

hm..
if i come from cm 10.1 and have an older nandroid from stock sense,
if I restore this nandroid, do I have to flash the kernel / boot.img again? or does twrp restore the kernel too when s-off?

Yes.
Your nandroid backup contains a boot image and it gets restored when you're s-off or on a low hboot.

thanks for your fast replies
that is what I said--it is complete back up--i restore sense and cm roms over whatever rom is on phone
you just can't restore a rom backed up with cwm thru twrp recovery or vice versa
Oops a post got stuck in btwn

What is a custom recovery?

Hi
I know it's in the words. So that I can recover my phone to where it was, if something fails while flashing.
But if I don't got "much" on the phone, does it matter then? Can't I just recover it back to factory?
All Roms to say how important it is and you need to do it and so on.
Am I missing something?
Thanks in advance

Yes custom recovery is probably the most important thing to install onto the phone as it is what ALLOWS you to flash a custom ROM to your device, also the recovery doesn't just backup your data it backups the entire device with a nandroid backup, that means if everything thing goes wrong but you can still get to custom recovery you can restore the device to a usable.
So you NEED a custom recovery to install a custom ROM

I downloaded Nandroid and did a recovery. Is that enough or do I need to do it from the computer?
Thanks

Shaky charging port, Unroot

Hey guys please advise.
My magnetic port is coming loose and harder to charge now. Planning to send to warranty claim.
Thing is its rooted. And I hardly use my old pc now. So checking is there any easier way to remove root other than reflash the stock rom?
Super thanks to everyone!!

The easiest way is to use PC and flash stock ROM, otherwise if you just unroot manually you could leave some files on the system that could only be there from root.
Even easier than using flashtool would be to force a software repair from PCComapnion, but be aware this wipes all user data, but will leave your phone in the exact same state as when you unboxed it.
However, if you rooted via unlocking the bootloader, then the only way to restore it to factory state is to restore the TA partition backup you should have made prior to unlocking and then flashing a stock ROM before rebooting if you are on a non stock kernel/ROM (To avoid bootloops)

how could i possibly unroot through pc companion it says that software is modified and cannot be updated.
You do not mean root then, you mean unlocked bootloader. To relock the bootloader just restore your TA patition backup

Need help Unrooting and relocking bootloader

I am running stock 9.0.3 ROM rooted with magisk and bootloader unlocked. Since i don't use root functionality that much so i have decided to unroot and relock bootloader.
Do i still need to flash stock ROM again? Or just uninstalling magisk will be enough? Any guide about this?
Thanks
Relocking the bootloader means you're going to wipe everything, so flashing oos is not your biggest problem, so wipe everything, flash oos(i guess you'll get the stock recovery back too), and then lock your bootloader again
https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-6/how-to/tool-msmdownloadtool-v4-0-international-t3903272 this will do the job. It will wipe everything and restore your phone tho, so relocking, unroot etc.

That's right. It will look like just what your device is when you bought it.
