S6 vs m9 vs iphone 6 - Galaxy S6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

did anyone see the speed test on phonebuff?? the S6 did win the first round...but when they run a second round...the S6 came last...whats wrong with that 3gb LPDDR4 ram???

Nothing. Although the S6 has the lightest touchwiz to date, it still is heavier than sense and IOS. But the S6 smoked the other two in the first round.

yeah i know that...but didnt expect that the S6 to lose badly...it doesnt keep anything in ram...the NOTE 4 have beaten the iphone 6 before....its interesting....is the NOTE 4 faster than the S6??!!

im not agreeing I see alot more closing of apps in my 920F model then I did with my note 3..I think this should be fixed in an SW update since it`s bugging the hell out of me

Keep in mind that there are memory issues in Lollipop. Samsung claims to have fixed the big one, but there are others Google still hasnt fixed in 5.1. This combined with a heavier TouchWiz could cause it.

what about M9? if the S6 have these issues the M9 should too....

in all comparisons the S6 opens the apps faster than anything.....thats when you open it the first time....but after that...if you start multitasking it doesnt keep anything in the ram....M9 is much better....samsung have to fix this...

True but my m7 on 5.0.2 I do not see this at all.

s3 to n5?

I've had my tmo s3 for a little more than a year now and it's still going strong and I like it but I'm thinking of possibly buying a nexus 5. Looking at used ones but also considering possibly getting it brand new from Google. Have any of you upgraded from the s3 to this? Would it be m much of an upgrade? Just wait for another 6 months for the nexus 6?
Aside from possibly the camera...and no SD slot.....yes, a huge upgrade. IMHO.
I just came from my GS3 to the N5 and the difference is night and day. Even with a KitKat rom on my GS3 it isnt nearly as fast and smooth as the N5.
Not to mention N5 roms are nearly bug free.
You do lose the SD card as mentioned above, the camera (I think) is a little better quality.
Battery is way better.
Thanks for the replies. I was thinking I'd wait for the lg g3 but it seems like the g2 is difficult to unlock and root, at least when it has 4.4. I have been using KitKat on my s3 for so long I don't think I could be happy with anything lower. The s3 is good but after I've been using my n7 for a while the Samsung feels slow.

You won't be disappointed with the upgrade. Went from i747 to N5 and everything is so much smoother. Keep your s3 with a proven rom as a backup but don't expect to jump back to it once you feel the difference in speed and reliability of the nexus 5.

I came 2 days ago from a d2spr. I can't begin to explain the night and day difference between the 2.
Hardware aside, the development here is way more active than on the s3 side. Hope to see you here.....

One and half month back I had the same confusion regarding this.
But after switching to N5, I am quite happy than before, until and unless you experience it you wont understand the differences of its software and hardware from S3.

Please don't troll.
"better" is subjective. Samsung cannot make a touchwiz device that doesn't lag. All of us who have had Galaxy devices know this. The s5 is no exception. The OP did not mention the S5. If he wanted an S5, he would have posted this in the S5 forum. Lets try to stay on topic please.
For sure they are two different "worlds".
If you seek speed of light and high rate of updates then you should go, for sure, of N5

That's exactly why I was looking at the n5 and not the s5. I found a 32gb black nexus for $315 on swappa so it's on its way now. I know the s5 has better stats on paper but it would also ruin any warranty if I rooted it ( samsungs counter). I like experimenting with different roms and I haven't used tpuchwiz for months. I know the n5 isn't exactly new but it's new enough that it should get the next update version of andriod.
I came from the Note 2, which is similar spec to the S3, and here’s what I miss the most:
-Wolfson DAC: With DAC Direct, audio sounded far superior on Note 2 (the reason audiophiles love Samsung phones)
-APT-X Bluetooth Codec: Again, sounds far superior to standard BT audio
-Phase Detection Auto Focus: For fast focus lock. N5 uses contrast detection, which is why it’s slow to focus
-Camera voice commands: Handy when taking photos of the kids / pets etc
-Expandable Storage: I would have liked the option to use my own SD cards, however I have bought a USB OTG SD card reader so this point is moot now
Apart from that I couldn’t be happier with the N5, and am actually happy to be rid of all Samsung’s gimmicks and so called “features”.
So if you haven’t already, go for it!
Another question, I've read that google slightly changed the n5 after complaints about the speaker, is there any way to figure out if my used phone I just bought is one of the originals or a modified one? I know there's nothing I can do either way, just curious.

This might help identify what model you have:

I believe I have the "revised" model, but the speaker still sucks.
In fact, I should have added "speaker" to what I miss from the Note 2 in the list above

Nope, its complete BS. Some have little holes some have big holes. Some have softer soft touch, some have yellower displays. It's not a revision. It is not a concious decision.

I'm new to the N5 so wasn't aware of any of these issues until I read about them today, so I just posted the first link that appeared in Google regarding the "differences".
Good post though, hit the nail on the head regarding tolerance, human error, and everything else really.
Like yourself I have light bleed, but I can live with it as it's only noticeable when it boots up.

Longevity and lag

My contract is about to end so I'm in the market for a new phone. I currently own a iPhone 5S which I have experienced little to no problems with and is as buttery smooth and lag free as it was the day I got it. However before my iPhone 5S I had the LTE Galaxy S3 which was an absolute nightmare. Don't get me wrong I loved android and prefer t a lot more over iOS but very quickly the GS3 started to lag and I had a lot of problems with it slowing down, crashing ect and I definitely would not like another experience like that. I'm considering the OPO because of Cyanogen mod which is pretty close to stock so I'm assuming there wont be any bloatware or anything that could possibly slow my phone down in the future? Is this true? I was also considering the LG G3 but the skin over the top is really putting me off and I'm afraid of running into the same problems I had with the GS3 a few months down the line.
TL;DR How lag free and reliable is the OPO in comparison to other phones in the market?

There is a massive difference between the 2 devices especially when the RAM comes into it with the S3 having 512 or 1GB (depending on which one you have) and the OPO having 3GB and of course the processor is a hell of alot better.
You'll have no issue with lag with the OPO i personally have had no lag issues if I did I couldn't use the phone either (espeically redraws I can't stand those, ARGH!!) not to mention no touchwiz which is a big bonus.

The Galaxy S3 here in the US actually had 2gb of ram with the dual core Snapdragon processor (Forget which one) and every other variant varied between 1gb for the Exynos version and 2gbs for the Snapdragon version.
But, the galaxy phones did not really get better until later. I blame the Touchwiz interface being incredibly taxing on ram and CPU. Like Roxas said though, there is 3gbs of ram in the OnePlus One and a phenomenal CPU in it too so this things flies! The Snapdragon 801 is a monster. CM11S is nice, and when you get in to tweaking it gets better! Just don't do anything you're not familiar with if you want a reliable experience, like any phone.

even with the latest ROM , you will have lag just using the phone and in games. As for longevity, the USB port wont probably last 2 years. Its a $350.00 phone running a beta ROM (IMO), so you have been warned right from the start with that price.

The S3 has 2GB of RAM on the North American version btw.
This one is great super fast and no lag, longevity I can imagine this phone will get software updates since the group behind it keep more devices up to date than OEMS do.
Also the USB port is the sturdiest one I have ever used
The problem with asking this on forums are some people run crappy apps that ruin the experience. Take me co worker that bought my nexus 4, it still runs pretty good, then all of sudden "yo this phone is not working". I take a look and he has this fake greenified app installed and three sideloaded pirated movie apps install. Uninstalled them and phone is working smoothly again. Until next month
But I have no issues with response time or battery life solid phone

Has touchwizz really improved?

I am wondering... has touchwizz really improved as much as samsung claimes? Had a couple of touchwizz phones and they always seem to lag bigtime. Even using the native apps like dailer, contacts and gallary.
It drove me nuts...
Basicly had enough and was thinking about switching to a different phone until samsung came with the s6.
So i hope you guys can give me a awnser based on reallife experiance?

I've used s3, note 2, s4 and s5 before.. and yeah i like touchwiz now tbh. On my older phones I've always root and installed aosp roms but i wont do it this time.
Ive bought s6 in belgium and there isnt even "bloatware" installed!
Hi , yes touchwizz is really improved compared with s3 , s4 , s5 ...it's also a more nice design , light and flat
of course it's always possible to made a better touchwizz ! but samsung has made a good job , i hope they will continue ... Normaly i don't like touchwizz , the s6 it's my first phone where i keep touchwizz
i don't have lag ...
i've owned the S2 and S4 and now S6, and the difference is just so big and noticeable, there is no lag on my S6 after using it for a bit more than a week....everything is fast....you do not wait for anything....i wonder what will samsung do with the NOTE 5.....

The functionality and speed of Touchwiz has definitely improved.
That being said, there's like a gig of bloatware that comes webbed into your phone out of the box. Using a debloated rom like XtreStoLite really makes this phone shine.
Samsung should take a hint and stop hindering their flagship phones with so much third party bloat imo
I've installed AOSP ROMs on every phone I've had, but this one is so fast and smooth and TW has most of the features I need so I'm actually happy with it for the first time ever. I'm on a debloated ROM, and all I really need are a couple of minor mods to be completely happy. It's hard to put my finger on why, but the S6 just feels so much better to use than any other phone I've had and any ROM I've installed. To me it's way, way better than the S5. By a much wider margin than I ever thought it would be.
ive always been a bit of a nova fan boy, but for the first few days i did like touchwiz a little bit, but went back to nova.

i like note 5 but someone told me wait for nexus 6p because nexus doesnt have any lag and samsung has lots of lag after one year
is this true?
Depends
Actually. It all depends on how you use it, I had a dual core android which doesnt lag at all exceptheavy games and apps that has high demands. If you're up for it I'd suggest you to wait for nexus, just simply dont install too many apps. And always keep your phone from malwares.. that should do the trick.

Note 5 ticks all your checkboxes, touchwiz HAS got better from previous days. But note 5 still has multitasking issues, and bad ram management. You can hope that samsung fixes it with a software update. Because I doubt the new N6 will have as good as screen and camera as Note 5.

[Q] RAM management (DHA/FHA settings in Build.prop)

Any word yet on possible RAM management improvements using DHA/FHA (or otherwise) settings in Build.prop for rooted phones?
This small adjustment made one heck of a difference on the S6, and since the S7 again (!) has less than perfect RAM management, I'm really looking forward to this coming to our S7.
If u have a qualcomm no
Nope... I have Exynos version.
Btw already tried some changes in build.prop... same settings as for the S6. Didn't help unfortunately

Not only speed but ram management is great....akin to my nexus 6.
I mentioned chrome since no matter what phone it still reloads after a long while
I see no issues with ram management
Can you elaborate please
What's to elaborate...? But ok then, I will...
I have extensive experience with several Samsung phones (S6, Note4, Note 5, and now S7) and all have had agressive RAM management, although each time it does get better.
However (as I have already stated) apps are still getting closed too quickly on the S7. Even with only some 6-8 apps opened and multitasking, some apps are getting closed. Btw I am not talking about games, it concerns regular apps (Inbox, Flipboard, NOS News, Google Calender, Play Store, Weather Pro, Chrome...just to name a few).
RAM management is indeed rather good on the S7. But at the same time I like to get all that's possible out of my phones, and sometimes it's annoying when apps get closed. There was a very easy way to improve on the S6, so there could be some improvements for the S7 as well.
Let's see how this pans out....I'm confident someone on XDA will figure it out soon :good:

RAM management is indeed rather good on the S7. But at the same time I like to get all that's possible out of my phones, and sometimes it's annoying when apps get closed. There was a very easy way to improve on the S6, so there could be some improvements for the S7 as well.
Let's see how this pans out....I'm confident someone on XDA will figure it out soon :good:

Well that seems to be the difference then...and all the more reason for us Exynos users to find a solution for this (granted...small) issue

Huh?
But as you said...I agree, S7 works almost flawlessly in regards to RAM management and the battery life is stupendous! :highfive:

It does indeed. But if another difference between exynos and sd820 is rammanagement I'd prefer the ram management over better battery life
Besides I'm in the US so we have no other option regardless

Ah I see now what you were saying, and yes I agree. The battery life being as incredible as it is already, I would have no problem having it decrease a bit and have proper RAM management in return

since the exynos version have better RAM management(look at attach link) and my exynos s7 edge is holding 18-20+ apps(unless its alot of games) in RAM all day, I would take it as there is something wrong with your phone or you have an rough app that is eating all you RAM.
