Battery Reviews - Galaxy S 5 Accessories

I just was seeing what kind of interest there is to having some battery reviews/tests conducted by me, I did a whole bunch for the Samsung Epic 4G years back and some for my recently traded Stratosphere II (RIP last of the great keyboard phones....), I'm looking for the best battery life possible and coming from a fat battery on my Epic and Stratosphere II the S5 is clearly lacking in the battery life department.
I was wondering if anyone wanted me to do tests on their batteries new or old (the newer the better though, for fairness and the best possible comparison). I'll eventually have up my S5's battery, aged as old as my S5 is (unknown really since I bought it off Swappa but we could see how much the cell has degraded and how much capacity has been retained)
Feel free to check out my review page from the Epic in my signature to get a gist of how I usually conduct em!

Hi can you please test with the KT kernel with fast charge enabled and let us how much time it is taking to fully charge s5

How would you like me to measure the time and from what minimum battery percentage?
Usually I test the batteries externally with my usb battery tester, just as a literal indicator of the discrete capacity of the battery, since there are too many kernel, rom, and setting configurations to accurately judge the best battery life/charging scenario on the phone. The battery capacity itself is not a variable so if it increases then the battery life (and charging duration) will increase by whatever percentage of extra capacity that battery gains over that one it's replacing.

Hi try to measure the time from 0 to 100 %

any one have more of 4 hour of screen usage ??? on lollipop ???

Other day: 6h20min SOT, battery 1day9hours 10% left, wifi/data/location on. 20min talk. But this was record.
Usually it is 4h30 - 5+h SOT
BOC7

I usually get between 4-5 hours of screen on time at work because of not the greatest reception, but on weekends when I'm mainly home with a strong Wi-Fi signal, I've been getting about 6 hours of SOT on lollipop. Battery life is better on lollipop than 4.4.4 for me.

[REVIEW] 1600mah batteries and charger

This is a quick little review of some 1600mah extended batteries for the desire HD. thees batteries where bought off of ebay from 2 different sellers, but both seem to be the same quaility and same manufacturer.
first of all, you can get these here
2x 1600mah extended battery with charger - LINK
1x 1600mah extended battery - LINK
So now for a bit of a review...
2x batteries and charger. - both batteries arrived relatively quickly, in a padded envolope. with there free shipping it was a little bit less than a week. came it great condition.
1x battery - paid $5 extra for expedited shipping, arrived in 2 days. works perfectly
Battery performance - all of the batteries have around the same performance. the ones with the charger have slightly less battery life but it is still better than the stock 1230mah. i can now easily go a full day of browsing the web and playing games without recharging. although, i dont like my batteries getting too low, cuz i know if they fully discharge it can be bad for them so at 20% i swap the one ive been using for one that ive charged overnight. the way i have it set up, i always will hae a battery fully charged. i have one in the phone and one in the charger overnight. wake up take both and put the other extended in the charger while i am gone. come back and before i go to sleep i swap again. they all get used equally then.
One problem that i have seen though, is that sometimes when i reboot or swap them out, when the phone starts up, it says there is 0% battery left. it is usually fixable by a quick wipe of the battery stats in recovery. has only happened to me in aosp roms though, sense runs fine.
overall, id give them a 4/5 rating because of the low cost and quality, but also because of that glitch(although it could just be software related)
pics up soon to show exact battery life and the batteries themselves
Okey n1 review. Perhaps i will get one of those batteries hate to charge all the time

I would love to see some stats/screenshots of Battery Monitor Widget just so that we can see what you mean by saying that you are browsing and playing games all day.
When i'm using my phone with the screen on all the time then i've got a drain of 1% per 5 minutes. That gives me a bit more than 8 hours before the phone is dead.
On the other hand the maximum standby time is a bit more than 100 hours (1% per 60 minutes) or more than 4 days.
That said you could have really great battery life if you've got more than 2.5 hours of screen on time in one day or it's terrible because the screen on time is way below 2.5 hours.
That's allways based on the assumption that your battery is depleted after 24 hours. "a full day" could also be a work day meaning unplugged at 6 am and recharching at 6 pm.
/edit:
about that 0% glitch: I'm using an Evo3D Anker 1900mAh battery in my DHD and got the same problem. I also think that it's related to me using an aosp rom.
I actually have this one!!! ordered from dealextreme.com!
its working fine 1230 mah real size! there is no bigger batteris than 1300 mah!

There IS a battery that is more than 1300mAh, the Mugen 1500mAh. Search for it on this forum
There is also the Mugen skin that clips on and holds another 2000?mAh, but that is not entirely practical...

These batteries do hold more juice than the stock. I don't know why people are complaining about them. For $9 you get 2 batteries and a charger. Even if they where only the stock size, you can still swap them.

Problem is, these claims have no substance without numbers. Do you have any test results proving the battery life is greater over stock?

great....clicked the "thanks" button instead of the "quote" button....
anyway:
it doesn't matter if your phone isn't on for some time....just let Battery Monitor Widget run from 100% to 0% and then show us screenshots of the stats it gathered.
Thoughts about how well your batteries performed aren't needed. I bet you i could give you the exact same thoughts you have about your batteries only that the time from 100% to 0% differs by as much as a day....

Battery Monitor Widget:
It's in german so this is what it says in english:
(in the info bar at the top you can see that i had still got 31% charge)
- has been unplugged for 1 day and 2 hours
- has been used for 5h20m or 20%
- screen was on for 2h31m or 9%
- wifi was on for 2h03m or 7%
- bluetooth was on for 1h32m or 5%
It doesn't say anything about how much the gpu was used (for example there is no reliable way of telling how much the usage of opengl drains your battery...at least as far as i know).
But it still gives you better info about how i used my phone and how much you'd get if you were using the same battery.

Verizon Samsung Galaxy S3 - User reviews for battery life & performance.

Greetings fellow XDA members and Verizon GS3 owners...
I'm creating this thread to create a user review/opinion on what setups are giving the best battery life / performance. It would be appreciated if we can keep this as clean as possible to make it easier for newer members to review and try different setups to get the most out of their device. With that said, this is solely based on our opinions. As we all know different setups vary per user, so just because my setup for example gives me great battery life, it does not mean it surely will for you. Results may vary!!
If your interested in posting your setup, please post in the following format :
ROM:
ROM Build Date / Release Ver:
Kernel / Kernel Ver:
Baseband:
Average Signal Strength:
Additional Tweaks:
(UV / OC / ETC)
Stock or Extended Battery:
-Optional-
Recovery:
(Doesn't effect what we want to discuss, but can be for good measure)
Results: (Insert battery life vs screen on time here)
So let me begin...
ROM: Synergy (TW)
ROM Build Date / Release Ver: R73
Kernel / Kernel Ver: Lean Kernel 1.2
Baseband: VRLHE
Average Signal Strength: -89 dBm / 51 asu
Additional Tweaks: No additional Tweaks as of now..
Stock or Extended Battery : Stock
(Optional)
Recovery: TWRP 2.2.0
Results: I am usually averaging about 15-16 hours with close to 4 hours of screen on time. I couldn't be happier with my battery life running the stock battery. I'm usually just happy to make it thru the day without having to carry my charger on me.
As far as performance, I couldn't be happier on R73. It runs very smooth and lag is practically non existent for me.
Samsung Galaxy S3
You may want to have people post their average connection. It seems to make a very big difference in battery life. I have poor signal here in Gainesville, FL so my battery does not last as long as someone else with the same setup in a better area may.

Insane battery life. Ive also gotten over 30+ hours with 3+ hours of screen on time as well. This phone is really amazing.
Upgraded to Synergy R77 last night. Battery life is still amazing.

I'm on Wi-Fi often and I turn off mobile data to stay under my data cap. I turn it on when I need internet and not in range for Wi-Fi. It's a bonus that being on Wi-Fi helps to consume battery life
I've had this phone since Tuesday and so far my experience has been good. I came from the Razr Maxx but I knew not to expect the same type of battery life. 3,300 mAh down to 2,100 mAh big difference but I am still impressed by the GS3.
After first charge I checked it last at 20% battery, screen on time was over 5 hours.
After second charge 5% battery, a little over 4 hours of screen on time
Last night I checked it at 40% battery, screen on time was over 4 hours.

Yeah, letting the ROM your running settle in also makes a huge difference. I came from a Rezound, which is a great device, but I pull way more battery life off of the stock battery then I did with the Rezounds extended battery.

Is it worth looking into extended batteries for the GS3? I never used extended batteries before so I don't know the quality of them and how long they'll last. Do they tend to crap out easier than a stock battery or are they pretty good at doing their job?

I can tell you the Hyperion 4000+ battery is absolutely amazing. I bought the G3 on a pre-order & have used the Hyperion battery every day from day one.
I do a ton of online audio streaming (iheart Radio, Sirius online etc etc) which kills a battery faster than anything else. I also use my Slingbox occasionally which is also a battery killer.
I leave GPS on at all times, have 4 email accounts on push & have my weather updating every 15 minutes. I never use WiFi & have 4G most of the time. In other words, I do the exact opposite of every battery saving tip ever posted....
With the Hyperion battery, I have never even come close to killing the battery in one day (I charge it every night)

My GS3 just will not sleep. Stock, rooted w/clockwork. Yeah, I delete the standard stuff that I've deleted for years across loads of android devices but this is very, very annoying. Always warm and battery life is horrendous. Any input on this? I'd also like a barebones, pure google rom for it as well. Thanks!

A stunning inspiring revelation about the Inspire 4G (Battery Related)

Hello all, I come to you today about the Inspire 4G's dismal idle time.
After having used the device for about a year I decided to perform some maintenance on the likely dismal specifications and purchased an updated battery. After a few weeks of use I peaked at around 3-4 days of idle battery life, which is fairly impressive for an Android device, especially on a non-stock rom.
I'm running Android Revolution HD 6.3.3 by mike1986. I typically overclock a healthy amount because it only seems to effect battery life.
If you're a user of the Inspire 4G, and often analyze your battery usage available on the about page you note that the Display subsection takes up the highest percentage of your battery. Which is sensible, because it's bright and large, but even in times of idle it tends to take up quite a bit.
I have a suggestion to make off of passive observation that perhaps the device includes other devices under the guise of Display. Namely, the speaker. If you keep the speaker at a lower level, the idle power usage of the Display should reduce greatly.
Again I come to this from passive observation, and the fact that their is no power subsection which likely includes the speaker.
Please post your results if you have any success with this and your battery life.
I also strongly reccomend this battery the Ecell 2430 mAh has provided an excellent improvement, perhaps even double the stock battery.
Good luck with your battery lives.
That battery you are using has no more capacity than the stock battery. You can't add capacity to a battery without adding to the physical dimensions of the battery. It's like a fuel tank. The reason it lasts longer is because it's a new battery as opposed to a year or more old battery.

Well I'm interested in where you gleaned this fact from.
A cursory glance at wikipedia indicates that there is a nominal range of energy densities for lithium-ion batteries (250-730 W·h/L), which directly contradicts what you just said/made up.
It's also a side-note to this thread, because the real point of it was seeing whether or not the speaker/audio output is on the same rail as the display, and thus measured in the power usage calculation.
I'm talking about removable phone batteries. Your 2430 is a lie. Scratch the cover off and see how it's re badged. I and another user proved this via extensive testing a couple years ago in the touch pro 2 section. Dude bought hundreds of dollars worth of stuff to prove the point. There's a big difference in the density that can be achieved in a lab and in very expensive batteries, but not so much in the battery made in a Chinese hell hole by some dudes that don't know they're getting poisoned every day(lithium battery production is nasty) and sold to us on the cheap

Oh they know they're getting poisoned, and the stuff they produce is sold on the cheap, they just have to work or else they and their family will starve.
But yes, almost all batteries out there don't match their specifications. The few that do are ghastly expensive- the mugen one is a solid battery that has 1600mah and it sells for $40- more than I got this phone for.
Try battery monitor widget. There are tutorials out there. It will attempt to estimate mah, for the most part it won't be anywhere near what it was advertised as. If it is, check back in six months to see if it still is chances are it'll not have the quality to last.

Note 4 Anker battery

How are you guys feeling about this battery? I decided to try it out, back when I had the GS3 I bought one of those 9000mah batteries and it was an extremely rare day that I went below 50% battery, so I went for the 6000mah anker battery here since it is cheaper.
I definitely feel like it has extended life, but it feels like it's only about 50% better as opposed to 100% longer life. I can usually make it to the end of the day now, whereas before I was putting it on the charger when I'd get home from work every day.
It all depends on the use of the phone. I know people that make 3 days use with Zerolemon and some make 18 hrs.

Anker 6400mah?
[email protected] BOC5 stock, for now.
Im thinking the same!
I want to buy the replacement battery for note 4 3220mah , they say they have stronger cells!
Anyone can confirm this? Any comparisons with stock samsung battery
After LP update BOC5 my battery life is decreased , atm i am at 42% with 3hours and 6 minutes of SOT with a total of 8hours
Also if i root it and greenify some sh!t will i see big difference?

I bought the 2 ankar batteries that a rotate with the OEM. they are very good and worth the money.
only complaint would be there is a plastic piece on the bottem of the battery that locks it into place. I left it in my car a couple time and it melted and fell off. so now on one of the batterys it fits loose and sometime makes my phone reboot from being knocked around. but i added some tape to the bottem and it fixed the lock and i dont have the problem anymore. it only happened with one of the batteries.
is the battery life better on the anker one? than the original samsung battery

Hope that helps
I just got the Anker 3220 last week & so far it does seem to do a little bit better than the stock battery. Not by much, but I've definitely noticed that I don't need to put on on the charger as much.

So I bought a refurbished Nexus 5. Think they cheated me on the battery? :)

In short: I think your battery is fine.
In long: Batteries are incredibly complex units, with slight allowable tolerances on the actual total mAh charge the battery can hold. I don't know the tolerances these batteries are built to, but they are not exactly 2300 mAh. I don't use the app you took a screen-shot of and the numbers aren't explained, so they mean nothing to me. I have no idea what they are trying to tell me, though I could make some assumptions that are probably wrong to some extent.
Also, an important thing to remember about lithium batteries is they do not tolerate a full discharge. This will damage the battery (irreparably). OEM's implement a floor at somewhere around 5-10% battery charge to prevent the consumer from either accidentally or intentionally fully discharging the battery. This is why the device will boot up on a low battery (after low battery shutdown). But it will immediately initiate shutdown again to prevent battery damage (or at least limit it). There is a great thread about lithium batteries in phones here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1168036. The point I'm making here is that app will never show a complete 2300 mAh of battery usage because the batteries circuitry will not allow it. So, if I understand that apps numbers correctly your battery capacity is probably ok.
Keep in mind this post was by a 3rd party and not a battery engineer, but most of the advice is pretty sound (I'm not a battery engineer either, but I am a Mechanical Engineer and most of his comments pass a sanity check).
Thanks for the long reply. I'm puzzled by this really because my SOT is barely 2.5 hours on a good day. I currently lack a SIM (waiting on one) and I have been just using airplane mode with WiFi on. My drain with screen off is somewhere around 2%. I am running M rooted with elementalx and I have a -50mv under clock across the board. I'm also using the conservative governor at the moment. I have greenified everything except Facebook and my last power cycle only showed the screen, system and WiFi as the only things consuming battery. My screen brightness is cranked way down. On battery I can pretty much see it dropping at a rate of 30%/hr with the screen on. If I under clock to 1.2ghz I get closer to 20%/hr. Currently I can't even get through a 16 hour day with light usage. I'm reading consistent reports of 4-5 hour SOTs with some power conservation and frankly I don't know what more I could do other than under clock to 500mhz which I must say us pretty laggy. Yeah I know draining to 0 is bad, but it looks like I don't have much choice right now or I could just leave it on charge all day. Awesome. I think I should try swapping the battery. My current problem is finding a good source for a genuine oem battery.

I think this is the worst battery life I've ever had from a phone. I'm pretty sure my G1 was nowhere near this bad but I do remember eventually moving to an extended battery.
