Can u make a twrp backup instead of nandroid is better to use
I wish to know this too!!!
i also have the issue of needing a backup, when i go to restore after putting the folder in my phone on twrp nothing shows up!!
That's because you were just told to put the backup in a folder on your phone and not told the correct way to do it, in order for it to show up in TWRP it has to be placed in the proper folder, IE: sdcard1/TWRP/BACKUPS/{Your phone's serial #}/{The named folder of this backup}/
Now the backup should show in TWRP and restore properly
Edit: I used sdcard1 in my example cause all my backups are on my external 32gb sdcard, if you need to use internal storage then just replace sdcard1 with sdcard

The title in no way implies that this is a zip, everyone knows that nandroid backups are not zip files, they are a folder with partition files inside that the recovery makes

Mod is listed under the international version of the one x, but i wanted to repost it over here so the rest of us aware of this awesome mod.
Original Thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1582506\
Basically it gets rid of the option bar at the bottom of the screen on non-ICS apps/games and makes the multitask/tast switch button, the new options menu.
Long pressing the home button becomes the new switcher.

Flashing an RUU does not erase files on /sdcard... I'm assuming you have them backed up in Titanium Backup? So this method should work for you.

I flashed the RUU and my music and photos are still there, but I lost all my apps because there stored somewhere else on the device (thanks HTC), at least that's what I thought.

That's what Zonk7 meant. Of course it wiped your apps. In order to be able to use most apps while SD card is mounted as USB drive, the apps are not stored in the SD card.
Hence the comment about Titanium backup.
Simply restore your apps after you RUU from the titanium backup you have in your SD card.
the mod should work for us Rogers users though, shouldn't it?

I currently have CWM 6 installed, but prefer the older version's backup method and file structure (don't like the Blob thing). Can I flash CWM 5 over 6? Thanks!
Youy could, but I dont recommend it. I dont have CWM installed so I cant tell you exactly how, but in the advanced options I am to understand there is an option to disabled the segmented backups, which would eliminate the blobs folder and each backup would then be in its own folder.

The best I can do since I dont use CWM myself and dont really feel like installing it just to check (sorry) is quote the person that pointed out to me that it can be disabled. Hope this helps.

You guys realize you can stop making blob backups and go back to normal tar right? Under back up go to advanced settings or whatever its called and choose the other option. Now you won't make back ups in blobs, but now you do them the old way. One folder for the whole back up, about 1-2 GB in size. Blobs are just nice as the backup takes under 5 min. Doing it the old way takes a bit longer.

FWIW I use and prefer TWRP (team win recovery project). I switched to it because I was frustrated with the very problem you are having, and gave TWRP a shot and never looked back. I make backups quite frequently and I needed the option of deleting individual backups at will. You can install it with ez recovery. Give it a shot sometime.

Currently running beans 13. I have 5 different back ups on my phone and I would like to get rid of a few of them. However, out of the 5, 2 of them I have no idea what rom or setup they are. One, I know is stock rooted and I would like to keep that one. Can I just go into recovery and flash each one to see what it is? I don't want to screw anything up. I just want to know which backups are which
Thanks in advance
Yes, you can do that. Or you could connect your phone to your computer and browse the files with a program like 7zip to see if you can tell what each is without having to flash each one.

No issues with switching back and forth between saved files.
I think you can also rename your files.
Also if you save your backups as beans13_date, it should be easy to know which files you can remove or keep.

Don't rename the nandroid. It will change the md5 and you will not be able to restore to it. I just save a simple text file on my phone with the last 4 digits of the nandroid and what ROM it was.

I've always renamed mine (especially since there's a bug that gives it a name with a 1970 date), and never had a problem with md5 or restoring.
Same here. I just add the name of the rom at the end.

Yes but DO NOT BACKUP OR RESTORE EFS!!!!!!
Absolutely. The trick to this is to make a quick backup on the new phone (backup cache, or something small) so that it creates a folder with your new device's serial number. TWRP looks in /sdcard/TWRP/BACKUPS/<DEVICE's SERIAL NUMBER>/ to find backups.
So, once TWRP has created a folder for the new device's serial number, you can transfer over the backup files from the previous device. You'll need to ADB PULL the directory to a computer from the old device, then PUSH them back to the new one.
It works like a charm. My wife dropped her first N5 during a walk in a park and shattered the screen -- when her new one came, we made it a perfect "clone" of the first this way.
Good luck!

You'll need to restore /system and /data if you want it exactly the same. I do not know what modifications / differences between the /system on your old and new phone are, so if in doubt, do both.
You should also do a backup of the EFS partition of the new phone since it's fresh, and keep it in a handy place. You never know when you might need it.

Hi, I currently have my nexus 5 in 4.4.4, and I'd like to try Android L, but I want to know if there's a way to create a full backup of my phone, like an image, so I can go back to 4.4.4 with everything as I left it, including apps, contacts, images, and all that, my phone is rooted, so I guess there's a a way, but, would it be possible to restore it if I'm already in Android L? thanks!

Your best bet would be to take a nandroid backup (which will go to sdcard) then connect in recovery and adb pull the entire /sdcard (which is /data/media/0) to your pc. Then whne you want to go back, adb push it back.
Click the link in my signature. In there you'll find a thread about adb and fastboot if you're unsure about adb push and pull commands.

The good thing about adb is you can push and pull files to your device, even if you cant get into Android.

Another way you can do is install Gdrivesync and sync your /sdcard partition to your Google Drive account. It won't replace the files on the phone but this will enable you to be able to recover lost downloads. You can set it up to have it automatically sync every x hours and it's nice too because if you accidently want to install the latest update but it wipes your whole phone including any backups, at least you can get your data again and just have to set up your apps.

The only thing that has worked consistently for me is to grab what you want off the /sdcard and copy it to a pc. Then a nandroid of the rest of the phone. I've had mixed results with adb backup and backup apps.
