Guys, is there any chance for us to get official update to 2014ths features? Or even unofficial updates, with TwROM functionalities?

The question shall be different: is there any chance for us to get ANY official update.
And the answer seems to be obvious: NO.
That's Sammy's policy. N10.1 was not selling as expected - so let's show its users a middle finger. After being a Sammy's loyal client for almost 10 years - that's the absolute end, as it is the 4th device which was left without serious updates (other than cosmetic ones...) in less than a half-year after debut.

You have been told this by someone at Samsung?
If not....... can you send me the link to were you read about this being Samsung's policy.

I actually work with a Samsung Solutions Architect, and according to a conference call that I had this morning regarding a beta I am running on the Note 3 and Knox. Samsung is in the final stages of testing with Samsung Knox and the Galaxy Note 10.1, the problem any Carrier branded Note 10.1 has is that IT IS THE CARRIER who says when the updates get pushed out. Samsung has a 4.3 update for "legacy" devices, but with the partnership they have with the carriers ATT, Tmobile VZW and Sprint, the carriers are the ones who are not signing off on the updates. In the case of the Gt-N8013 I have NO clue what the hold up is besides the beta test for knox that I am part of. During the conference call I asked the Director of SEA Knox Development team when this will be brought to the 2012 version of Galaxy Note 10.1 and his reply is they are aggressively working on the update and it should be done soon. Now I know that doesn't mean much but at least it shows Samsung didn't just drop the 2012 version they just "need" more time to test it out. That is actually why I am part of the SEA KNOX BETA that will run the first qt of the new year.

Thats why Sammy shouldnt release so many devices. It costs them more money and more time to update since they have so many devices. I bought this tablet because I thought it was their flag ship tablet that means it would get update faster but I was totally wrong. I wont buy any ****ty tablet from Samsung again.

my dear friend mikejones13
thanks for your honest and precise answer
but the question being asked is somehow different than what u said
what i care most is the "feature pack" presented with the new note! it's my right and i want all of those capabilities on my N8000!
ps: u see? i am not looking for just an update! having waited so long makes me worry if I am gonna get something valuable in return or not!
I'd asked the same question before and got no answers
Basic answer with all upgrades is you may get them . But you have no entitlement to them you never bought them in the first place . Plus at some stage the apps may be ported .

Well I think you have your "right" mixed up with your "want" Samsung doesn't owe you anything for buying the 2012 version of the galaxy note 10.1 they are under no obligation to provide you with the the new features of the 2014 edition. If and I do mean if we get them, then that was mighty nice of Samsung. Otherwise if it is so important to get the new features I suggest porting the rom over to these devices. Don't get me wrong I would like the features as well considering I am the admin for my job and I have deployed 800+ 2012 Galaxy Note 10.1's to our students and staff. I don't remember Samsung saying you get X amount of updates on x amount of years when you buy a device.

Yes, Samsung didnt say anything and it doesnt need to even say anything. But when they chose Android OS they knew that every companies working with Android know that everybody having an android device are expecting to get updates - it is a nature of android. It developes fast.. What do you expect to happen if Apple did the same? "Sorry, but no new ios for u, just buy a new iWhatever?" Even the dumbiest sheep will be lost...
As you probably have seen it in a real life too, Samsung just has too many devices to kerp updated and they still dont stop. Every week they launch a new device, just changed something just a little bit to get a new toy - today it was a some model with a screen size 8.2", tomorrow they launch it again, but it will have a 8.3" screen. On next week they change it a little bit again and it is now called "pro". How can you even think about any updates nowadays!? It's crazy already, they are just flooding the markets!
And what comes to updates, i give a **** what carriers want or not. Remember that people live outside usa too. In Europe most of us dont have any carrier linked, bloatware devices. Like i am using an international version (nordic actually) of N8000, and no carriers. Why isnt this one updated? No need to wait carriers and their bloatware or anything... It is just an excuse. I only hope Samsung has faced the problem they did all by themselves flooding with billion devices. Unfortunately customers are those who pay the price!

true.
However, it would be nice if they would close that ugly Exynos security hole ...
Samsung is apparently getting closer and closer to releasing its first software versions based on Android 4.4.3.
The first devices to get an Android 4.4.3 build from the Korean company are going to be the Galaxy S5 and the Galaxy Note 3, it seems. That would make perfect sense, given how these are right now Samsung's flagships in their respective market segments.
According to a purportedly leaked internal document, the Android 4.4.3 updates for both Snapdragon and Exynos versions of the Galaxy S5 have been finalized and are due out before the end of this month.
In the case of the Galaxy Note 3, development has reached the final testing stage. If all goes well, the new bits should be ready to roll out to users sometime in July.
Previous such leaked documents surfaced last month, when the Galaxy S5's update was still being worked on. Now that it's finalized, the guessing game begins - which will be the first territory (or carrier) to get Android 4.4.3?
One thing to note is that the document pictured above has some odd font differences in it, which may indicate a bad Photoshop job. So do take this with a pinch of salt.
Further complicating things is the fact that Google has just released Android 4.4.4 to its Nexus devices, a version that seems to contain a pretty important security fix.
That leads us to wonder: will Samsung first release 4.4.3 for its devices only to then start working on what is now the latest version of the OS? Or will it choose to skip 4.4.3 altogether and simply come out with a 4.4.4 build, even if that means delaying the release for a short while?
Since the newest iteration of Android isn't bringing new things to the table, just fixing bugs, the latter hypothesis isn't completely implausible.

Samsung should migrate the Note 3 to the S5 Touchwiz and not keep it where it is. They have no reason not to and hopefully they do it by September/October.
LOL! i remember seeing that picture like a month ago even before 4.4.3 was officially released with S4 on top and S5 at the bottom, that's obvious photoshop job to the image to add Note 3 there
I'd rather they didn't. The Android 5.0 announcement is today, and if we get 4.4.3 now, it means we probably won't get 5.0 (the 2 version-number changing updates maximum policy in the contracts with Google.)

Oh I know. I'm just saying I'd rather they skipped the middle update, because there's a limit as to how many larger updates a device will get.
And he's not the only one working for T-Mobile (Except I'm not with T-Mobile USA, but rather T-Mobile NL & it's mother company, Deutsche Telekom, as their Samsung expert.)
The point is that the US Branded devices have an entirely different schedule, since their devices also have their own device codes. The N900T has nothing to do with the N9005. And as such, the S3 in the US will get KitKAt, where the EU S3 will not, even the identical-to-the-NA-version 4G variant.
Hello I read a few times about Note 3 4.4.4 Update from Samsung.
On this Site, they say it´s already completed and they startet to roll out in USA.

Just be patient, it will come sooner or later.
And I am pretty sure Note 3 will not get Note 4 UI, but who knows.

You're right, They won't make anything exclusive for the note 3 since they want to sell the note 4, not the note 3.
If the Note 3 gets 4.4.4, it'll be somewhere late december, early januari.
However, since Android L is being released late November, there is every chance Samsung will skip 4.4.4 entirely and move to L. Especially since it's been out for the Sprint edition for a month, and no other devices since, including the newer S5. (The Note 4 needed to come with the newest OS, and L wasn't out yet, or it would've come with L)
So expect them to skip it, like they did with 4.2 for the Note 2.

You do realise sprint already has it? As the only one. Something caused them to stop the roll-out. (They won't tell me what, just 'issues').
Perhaps you don't know this, but Poland gets every version first. It's where Samsung has its test center. There's not even a Polish test build. Samsung NL doesn't even know anything about 4.4.4...
Add to that the fact that there is no 4.4.4 for the S5 either(which is a newer device), not even a test build, and it starts looking very much like you're a tad too optimistic.
And keep in mind, if Samsung counts 4.4.4 as a major update, we won't be getting L. As that would make it the second major update.

L has officially been released about 40 minutes ago by Google. (Google. Not Samsung. This is the point where Samsung is now allowed to start adapting L to their devices, which will take about 2-4 months.)

I have a M7 currently, and I will most likely get a SGS6. Modding HTC (unlocking/rooting/custom roms & kernels) is fairly easy. How does Sammy compare to HTC? I read it's a bit more difficult for you guys. True?
I've read Sammy's with Qualcomm chips are easier to mod than the Exynos variants. True?
I've also read Samsung takes awhile to release latest kernel sources. True?
Hopefully someone can answer these questions. First Samsung TW device. My previous smartphones are in my sig.
I wouldn't really count on the development on S6 being active. You can at the very least take a look at the Galaxy S5 G900H which is the exynos variant of the S5 which barely recieve any support from developers.
Well there are ROM chefs at least but developers are close to nil.

Difference is that the S6 will ONLY be Exynos, so everyone will have the Exynos version (more users/devs), of course. With the S5, most ppl had the Qualcomm variant correct? So more users/devs for the Qualcomm version.
In the last few years, generally speaking Samsung devices with Exynos SoCs have only had fully-functional custom ROMs based on TouchWiz, but ROMs based on AOSP or CyanogenMod have had unsolvable problems with the camera, sound driver's, etc. The bottom line is, if you buy a Samsung, make sure you are perfectly content with TouchWiz or broken ROMs.
Well I heard that samsung is also planning on releasing snapdragon based s6 sometime in the future? I'm not sure as I lost my interest in s6 after they confirmed that there's no sdcard in s6. Also if development is really a big deal for you when purchasing the S6 then I say better wait first before jumping. We don't know yet if there are indeed devs willing to take on the galaxy s6 for development. For now so far I haven't heard anyone willing to unlike on HTC and other devices devs are already swarming the forums even if the device is not yet released. So if I were you... Wait a couple of weeks and observe the development progress here in the forums. If it recieves enough to get your interest then purchase one and if you're lucky enough a price drop might happen before you get your device.

Yes this is what I'm talking about... There are only ROM chefs(those who specialize in modifying the stock ROM) rather than developers(those who develop custom ROMs from source code) The problem here is that Samsung won't release the "full" source code of their exynos chipsets hence any drivers that's communicating in the SoC can't be recompiled against other ROMs.
As far as I know only 1 custom kernel has been released on the G900H S5 and that barely even got any progress at all even if it's just a plain TW kernel.

I mostly use roms which the devices was made for. Like the M7, I stuck with Sense roms. If I get the SGS6, I will stick with TW. The reason I stick with what the phone was made for is because of less bugs, and the camera is always better on the original sw, etc. So modded stock roms is what I usually go for. Hopefully some good stuff for the SGS6 in the near-future, especially since it will be a popular device.

Yea, i'm patiently waiting for some big news on the 3rd party support. Modded stock rom is what I was going for, not AOSP roms. I always like using what the device was made for. In this case, TW. Same with my M7, Sense. So is it still difficult for the Chefs to work on the stock rom because of Exynos (and other reasons?). Or is it sort of painless? And that does suck about the S5 (Exynos varient?) kernel situation =(

I highly doubt the bootloader will be unlockable on the S6, greatly limiting options. No one has figured out how to unlock the S5 yet.
Unless they release a developer edition on the S6, I would prepare to have root, and possibly SafeStrap, at best.

Hello Slim ROM fans. I've got a tough choice to make. I currently have a Galaxy S3 (i747m) which is running Slim LP 5.1.1 beautifully. I love this ROM. I recently flashed the S3 back to the stock touchwiz and instantly missed the Slim ROM. It has become a major factor in the purchase of my next phone.
Anyways, my contract has expired and I figure that since I am going to keep the same plan that my last contract had, I might as well resign and get a cheap / free upgrade to a new phone. My biggest problem is which phone to pick...and most importantly, make sure there is a Slim LP ROM for it...or at least in the works. I have tried Slim Kat and Bean but I prefer LP. Also, installing Kat or Bean is difficult now because any new phone comes pre-loaded with the latest bootloaders which apparently will not boot the older versions of Android, so I'm pretty much stuck with Slim LP....not that I mind tho. So here are my choices.
Galaxy S4 (i337m)
Galaxy S5 (not sure which model exactly, but its from Fido so Canadian version Im sure)
LG G3 (D852)
Sony Xperia M4 Aqua (unknown model)
So what do you all think? I am biased towards the Samsungs for the better contrast screens (super AMOLED) and extra buttons so keep that in mind.
Wow, no thoughts on this eh?
Nexus line maybe a good line to follow

You have to be careful when buying a carrier branded phone because they often come with locked bootloaders which can be difficult to unlock, if an exploit even exists. You're best bet is pay the extra money and get a dev edition device that has an easily unlockable bootloader.
Interesting post and way to choose your next phone.
But I totally understand.
The last couple phones I chose, the Slim was no longer being developed for.
And with Slim being my favorite base ROM, upon which several other VERY cool ROM's are based, it meant my phones were very limited in ROM choices.
After some [very] quick research, it seems Slim has been on the down-low for awhile now and may still not be developing much until after Marshmallow hits.
So, as mentioned above, a Nexus device is likely your best bet.
And if you're not on T-Mobile or Sprint, then totally forget about Samsung. Because AT&T and Verizon Samsung are totally screwed with the locked bootloaders.
One phone to keep an eye on is the relatively new unlocked (for all carriers) Motorola Moto X Pure 5.7" device.
As of yet, there are no ROM's. But development for prior generations appears to have been pretty decent. And this phone will have an unlocked bootloader on all carriers.
