Hello everyone!
I recently replaced my 3 year old Nexus S with a Nexus 5. It's my second smartphone and I love it. Naturally, I rooted it and everything.
One of the apps that peeked my interest was Light Flow. It's a bit mind-boggling what you can do with it, but I'll figure it all out. However, I noticed one issue straight away...
Notifications in different colours seem to work. I did a test with whatsapp and it blinks green: perfect. However, after a couple of "blinks" a white light flashes "through" it if that makes sense. It doesn't alternate between green and white, no, they just flash through each other, the white light slightly before the green light.
I don't know what is causing this white light to flash, but after I turn off Light Flow and close the app entirely, it keeps flashing. I have to restart my phone to make it stop (or disable notification LED in the Android settings menu).
Does anyone have a similar issue? Or can someone maybe tell me what boxes I have to tick in the Light Flow settings? It could very well be one of the settings is causing this issue. If someone has a certain set-up and it works fine, I'd love to try it and see if it fixes my issue.

Do your notifications work by default? Like, your stock notifications? Mine didn't, but do with light flow. Weird, no?

I tried another app (Light Manager), and I had the exact same problem. Don't get me wrong, the app is working fine, but once I set everything up and I do a test notification, a white notification keeps flashing even after I turn Light Manager off. The only thing that helps is to disable LED notifications in the Android settings, or to reboot the device.
Something is telling my device that there's a notification, but I don't know how to fix it.

Make sure in your phone settings, security that lightflow is switched on.

The test option isn't great at the moment. Follow the steps above and it should work

However, for some reason my phone keeps flashing this white light, even after I turn off Light Flow. I have to turn off the notification LED in general or reboot my phone for it to stop. The white light notification starts after I do a "missed call test" like described in that link (that works perfectly fine by the way), or after any test I do with Light Flow for that matter. And it doesn't stop no matter how often I clear my notifications.
EDIT: NEVERMIND. Totally forgot that I don't have a sim card yet. That's what was setting off my notifications. Weird though that even after disabling Light Flow it keeps flashing, and weird that it was white instead of cyan like it's supposed to be.

Sorry for wasting your time. I totally forgot I didn't have a sim card so Light Flow was making the LED flash because it thought I had no signal.
Still weird that it keeps flashing even after I disable Light Flow, and that it's white instead of cyan like it's supposed to be.
Anyway, thanks a lot for your help! It works fine right now. I'm not too sure how the cycle thing works yet. I've tried it with a red slow flash for low battery and a green fast flash for whatsapp but the result is the LEDs flashing kinda "through" each other. Naturally, with different flash rates, I guess.
Quick question for people. For the last couple of updates I've been getting quite a lot of reports of certain notification types not working. Hangouts, emails (not gmail), whatsapp etc
I know that all the types that people are having issues with have been using the notification listener (quite a few stock apps don't use it), has anyone else been seeing this. I'm trying to track it down, but I can't recreate it and the beta testers haven't been able to either. Just interested to work out how much of an issue it is as I've never had reports of this before.

I tested the color cycle for textra app, and google voice. I purposely got both notifications with the screen off and waited for the colors to cycle. It started off cycling both colors, but the cycle was not consistent. For example, the colors were red and blue. It would show like this- blue....red....blue..red..blue..red....red....red....red....red
The time between colors was not consistent, then eventually one color took over. I have the setting to 'cycle all - medium' under battery settings. Have not tested under charge settings yet. I am not using the 'highest priority' or 'show latest' options.
This isn't a deal breaker, but would like to bring to your attention.

I use it for WhatsApp, BBM, Hangouts all w/o issue on my stock N5. My only complaint is the perma-notification in the notification tray. Can't seem to get rid of it with any of the options in settings. Wasn't an issue with older versions (I'm using the latest)
Ive been using lightflow on my N5 and it's working well
I have multiple notifications set up - all set for 'permanent' rather than flashing. I have turned EMAIL notifications OFF
however - sometimes, I am not entirely sure when, I notice a white (slightly bluish?) blinking LED. I can't figure out what causes this. I suspect it MAY be email (exchange email, not gmail) - but I am not sure - I can't reproduce consistently.
Also, sometimes when I do a 'test model' on SMS apps, no LED lights up. I've stopped using "SMS Apps" and now am using "Hangouts" as a notification instead and that seems to work

Isn't the white light you're seeing the default LED color? Whenever I get a Gmail or Exchange mail it blinks white. I don't have Light Flow installed.
Yes I think it is the standard light. however with lightflow that's not meant to occur.
either way it appears to have stopped now.. not sure how/why!
Try turning off your LED notifications in each program and just have Light Flow control them. That should stop the default white light from showing.

I had a same problem. I dismissed missed call, but LED light was still blinking. And second time this happened for gmail.

Hey Andrew, Great work on this app. It is fantastic and I was happy to upgrade to the full version.
Just wanted to share that I have the lingering notification scenario also. essentially I get a few notifications and once I clear them out and the screen turns off, the light continues to blink. It is usually the last notification that came in (I have different colours set and I can tell that what sticks is what came in last).
To be honest, I wonder if it is Kit Kat not clearing out the notification and the issue has nothing to do with LF. Interestingly another way to clear the issue is to bump the notification with another real one, and then accept that notification (i.e. light still blinks without any active notification, I call the phone and miss the call, it blinks for the missed call, I clear that, and we are back to normal)

Anyone able to get the Camera Light LED/flash to work? The one on the back.
I enabled it in setting and I've tried all the other ones not officially supported too with no success.
Also had the notification light not dismissing problems too. But I'm thinking I got it figured out now. Hasn't happened since.
Anyone else not getting the vibration when a notification comes in on the gear S2? Mine won't vibrate all the time. At first I had always on screen set to on and I never got a notification. I shut it off and started getting them. Now I'm not getting just the vibration. But if I swipe to the side the notifications are there. Non Samsung phone.
It seems like the watch when the screen is off goes into a sleep mode and doesnt wake up for the notification. What gives?

Had two random reboots today and the screen froze up as well. This POS is going back to best buy. Samsung cant get there **** together.
Always on mode doesnt work at all. Watch goes to sleep it seems and doesnt wake up with notifications. This is overall junk.
I had the exact same issue. The vibration issue coupled with a battery that went from 100% to 0% in less than 5 hours, normal use.
I have 12 days to return. I hope Samsung pushes an update within 12 days. I really like the hardware and UI, but it's just so damn buggy.
I have no such issues you guys are describing. I have a black S2. It's paired to a Galaxy S6 Edge.

If I don't have the always on clock showing on the watch I will not get any notification. Using it with a One Plus 2. If the screen is on I will get nothing. The screen has to be off and in the always on mode or else it doesnt work. I just got a email and my watch did ****. I hate this ****ing ****.
maybe a little of topic but cause its about vibration i thought i could post here
i have no issue with my watch not vibrating at least not as far as i know.
i was just wondering if i can change vibration patterns. i know i can change the strength but the quick 3 times vibration is a bit annoying. i would like to change it so something else.
also the vibration on AW was better in my opinion because it resembled the pattern that was set on the phone for that specific notification
The only thing you can change about vibration, in addition to off/weak/strong, is long buzz or not.
Wait .. is the gear s2 screen supposed to turn on and show a preview of the notification when you get one?
My s2 has simply been vibrating when a notification comes in and there is no change on the screen. I thought that was normal and also thought it was a silly way to design it
If i get a notification right now, I need to wake up the watch, swipe to the left screen and then click it to show details - a lot of moves
You have to set that in the settings.

yeah that's right isn't it. i got the same settings. hopefully there will be more options in a future update
My S2 will vibrate and light up (turned that on in settings) for incoming Texts and Phone Calls every time.
BUT for all other notifications it will not. When I get Google Now alerts or score updates from the ESPN app nothing happens. I am using the Modern face with one of the complications set to Notifications, and that will show me that I do have notifications but what use is that? Unless I look at the watch face to see the time I will never know I received these notifications. If I get a notifications I would like for it to alert me with a vibration. Every time, of all apps I choose.
Does this with a Sony Z3 Compact as well as a Xiaomi Mi4c both running 5.1.1.
This watch is a bust because I tested mine with my moto 360 2nd gen. The Gear S2 didnt get all notification if the screen was off. If it was showing the always on clock it would vib and show. Samsung needs to fix this ASAP. This is a watch that needs to tell me every notification I want.
Have you tried a Light or Factory reset of your S2? That fixed it for me, that or reinstalling the Gear app. I did both so, can't actually confirm which did it. Not having any problems getting all notifications.
I think you need and easy button, or try setting,if you can't find it , I can't help you
I have two of these and both do the same. Won't get notifications if the screen is off and not showing the always on clock. Using it with a note 5.
i have another issue. dont know it its the watch or the gear manager app. i wont get notifications for specific apps. the checkmark in the gear app wont stick. e.g. the greader app. also there are not all apps found in the gear manager app. does anyone know why thats so. for example the chrome app does not show in in notifications in the gear app.

I have done both as well as switched phones and started from scratch. No notification vibration for anything but Text's and Phone Calls.
Is there a solution for this, or does my watch have to go back to the store. I'm "upgrading" from a pebble, but if I can't get a vibration to notify me of a new email, then it's a non-starter. It seems to me that I get vibrations for notifications on apps that were set up by default. But I'm not getting vibrations on any additional (third party) apps. I use e-notify and aquamail, none of these vibrate on notification. I saw on another forum that the phone must be set to vibrate for it to work, but I've tried this, and still nothing.
Is there a program that will allow me to get reminders? I use Touchdown as my regular calendar and I think I can use my Samsung calendar just for reminders but can't get S Voice to work from the GS2. Google Reminders is the best thing going. Of course, I can't feel the viberation but...

I have owned Find X2 Pro for about 3 weeks now. I have noticed that my notification is not appearing when the phone is locked. It only shows up when I unlocked my phone.
I know Oneplus also has this issue but can be fixed by disable battery optimization.
Is there any thing I should disable or enable in order to alert me when my phone is locked.?
Have you tried going in to Privacy<Lock Screen and then selecting show notifications

I was disappointed to discover there is no notification LED on this phone, so wanted to find a way to overcome that. I'm not sure it's exactly the same issue you've found, but maybe the solution is the same?
There are several ways to replicate the missing notification indicator, but the one I've been using since I got the Oppo is NotifyBuddy. Although there is a free version (link below), I quickly paid a small amount of money to unlock all its features. This means that notifications appear on my lock screen in the form of app icons - you can select the size, colour and which ones you want to show from a list of all your installed apps. I've set mine to blink on and off at one second intervals and for NotifyBuddy to not show any notifications when the phone is in Do Not Disturb mode. A double-tap brings up the lock-screen fingerprint sensor, so it's easy to open the phone without even picking it up.
This is my preferred set-up, but the program is very flexible. It does consume some battery power because I've set it to run in the background (which seems pretty essential to me) but the extra drain is very small.

When the phone blinks out and goes into its hibernation state/lock screen state and has been idle for quite some time, no notifications come through until the phone has been picked up or woken up then all the notifications flood in. I have tried all sorts of things to get the notifications to work when the phone is in this state but it just does not work. However, if the always on display is on, all notifications work perfectly as the phone is not in that hibernation/resting state. I am not sure this app would help until this aspect is resolved, unless in your experience it has fixed the issue?

Maybe try to lock affected apps in recents?

i have these 3 shown on screenshot locked and have no issues with delayed notification fm gmail, WA & viber

When the phone was in hibernation, I wasn't getting any notifications through either. The app I suggested solved this. Now I get notifications immediately, whatever the phone's state.

Also whilst I am thinking about this, supposedly lock screen magazine can impact notifications if it is turned off so I have enabled this too.

I thought I'd add a photo of my Oppo Find X2 Pro showing how notifications appear on my lock-screen whilst the phone is locked. This is thanks to the NotifyBuddy app which I've discussed earlier in this thread.

It shows three simultaneous notifications... Twitter, WhatsApp and TypeApp (which is my preferred email app). The strange position of the icons is because I set up NotifyBuddy's ability to move the icons around to avoid any possibility of OLED screen burn-in.
And finally, I have no connection with this app except that I've been really pleased with it and feel it deserves a bit of promotion!

I am facing the same issue on my oppo reno 8, in my case sleep standby optimization is turned on, because of which I am not getting notifications on lock screen. Make sure you turn off sleep standby optimization. Settings>>Battery>>Advanced settings>>sleep standby optimization.
Hello All
Ive got the GW4 46mm BT classic paired with a Note20U both up to date , woke up this morning after watch been fine for a week and put my watch on but no notifications coming thru to the watch did quick restart on both no go.
Reset the watch and only some notifications come thru no email or texts tho whatsapp is ok , checked settings nothing has changed.
Uninstalled galaxy gear app and reset watch still the same missing certain notifications even tho they are ticked .
Watch is set to show even if phone is open.
Any ideas ?
You may need to turn on notifications for the specific apps in the wearable app. I had to do this as I was getting no notifications for any apps.

I've checked all the settings and all ticked . Emaids via the Samsung app now work but texts messages have now stopped showing on the watch even tho notification is ticked !!!

As I never had this problem with the old generation watch I got before (Gear S3 running Tizen), I think we have just to wait for the 1st product OS update.
Youth problems are common on first releases. I hope first OTA will fix this annoying problem.

Same here. Text messages and phone calls appear fine. WhatsApp is a hit and miss, sometimes pops up, sometimes just silently shows the notification dot.
In general, regardless of this bug, notification management on this watch is a mess, very poor user experience.
Some things I noticed:
1. If you're driving with Android Auto, it's impossible to respond or take action on a notification on your watch. Anything you click on (such as 'Delete' on an email notification or 'Mark as Read' on a text message) seemingly registers on the watch but the notification persists and no action is taken.
2. The notification indicator is useless if you have the watch set to wake up the screen when you get a notification. Basically it wakes up the screen to display the notification and from that point on it's considered 'read' so the indicator won't appear, even if you didn't actually look at it. They should've had an option to show the indicator while you have uncleared notifications.
3. Multiple notifications from the same app require you to click on a tiny number icon at the bottom of the notification. Inconvenient. (Think when you have multiple WhatsApp messages from different contacts).
4. Looking at a notification screen gives you no indication of whether or not you have other notifications, you have to try to swipe left to check.
5. To clear a notification while it's open -- you either have to click 'back' to the main notification screen and then swipe up or scroll all the way down to find the 'clear' button -- which sometimes isn't there and you have to click on 'More...' first. How about just allowing me to swipe to dismiss it after reading it?!
They'e put a lot of emphasis on health, but given very little thought about the basics.
I can only confirm and complain that I get 0 notifications from Whatsapp even though I've checked all the notifiation settings multiple times. Also even though I've got the wear os version of telegram installed, the telegram notifications I get are standard notifications that can't show e.g. pictures or voice messages.
It was working fine when I got it on tuesday. It even worked fine after the "day 1 OTA". And now I get nothing at all. Tried everything from granting more permissions to the Watch4 Plugin or disabling battery optimization and stuff. Restarted both devices a lot. It just stopped working. I am glad I am not the only one...

An update for you mine started getting notifications texts,Samsung emails etc . Gmail shows randomly but no vibrate or sound on Gmail other notification have this ,
I don't have a clue whats changed to fix this I already had OTA just woke up a few days ago and they were working phone was upstairs watch downstairs overnight ?!?

Weird... well I guess I have to wait. lol
Update from me as well. I turned off both phone and watch and turned them back on together after a few minutes. I don't know why it works but it does.
Edit: Nvm it worked for like one notification and then it stopped working again...
Restarting both devices helped me.
I played around with a bit more. Restarting both devices helps...for a while. As soon as the watch reconnects to the phone (i.e. you move too far from your phone) it stops working. Very annoying still.

I'm has been fine since it started working last week had few disconnects while walking away from phone but coming back in to range and its reconnects fine and notifications a work .
It does repeat whatsapp messages that I previously read and gmail still not vibtrate of sound ,

Sounds way better than my status. Do you have a Samsung phone? I am using a Black Shark phone. I still have to investigate this further...

I have the impression that all the notifications work fine now: Gmail, WhatsApp, Nuki, telegram, Smartthings, messages, Gtask.
Hope it will stay ok.
Mean reason for me is having phone on silence but I can see notifications on watch.
Btw the watch 4 classic is a real beast.
What version of plugin do you have?
I still have no gmail vibrate.
Ok using the watch pass few days and few questions. I am not using a Samsung phone (OP 7pro) and on android 11 and watch software up to date
Notifications are sporadic. I am not getting notified by noise or vibration on watch for some WhatsApp and gmails? I have them set up as allowed in notifications on wear app. I have 3 Gmail accounts set up but seem to only get notifications for one assigned to Samsung account?
Also, not fitness freak but does the watch auto detect say when you go for a walk/run? It seems to kick in when I am 5 minutes into the walk/run, well that’s when I get notified?
Also have display set to Raise wrist to wake but this is also sporadic and sometimes I have to touch the screen for it to wake
Battery seems to be fine and have not tested voice calls on watch yet but not missed any calls yet while phone in pocket
Anyone has same issues and any way they sorted it other than turning it on and off

So does it count these 10 mins or does a 30 minute run only record as 20 minute?
Yes records from start.
Notifications especially from Gmail are flakey at best and that's with a Samsung phone, started to use Samsung email app and works fine.

Hello All Ive got the GW4 46mm BT classic paired with a Note20U both up to date , woke up this morning after watch been fine for a week and put my watch on but no notifications coming thru to the watch did quick restart on both no go. Reset...

Yeah seems Samsung email app only works on Samsung phones
K3 email what is that? or any other email app that works with phone for notifications or I can try?
I think it's a Wear OS 3 problem and not a Samsung one

@funkyirishman , for the notifications, I had to go on the watch to the very bottom of the notifications settings, and tap "Show on Phone". Many of my phone's apps were toggled off including Gmail.
It's been much better after that.
