Hey everyone,
I own an Sony Xperia Z3 model D6603 and I live in the USA. I haven't had any issues with it except for no Wi-Fi calling/texting.
I downloaded firmware for the sony xperia z3 D6616 US Tmobile version and was wondering if I could load that on my D6603? I heard of others loading custom roms from other models of the Z3 without incident so I would think it was possible. I think this hypotheticaly should get Wi-Fi calling to work as it should be a software restriction not a hardware one??
Any insight would be very helpful. Hell even if you think I could give it a try and if it doesn't work I can always revert to the old rom, a boost of confidence would be great before I start tinkering with things.
Thanks everyone!
Knowing how bad T-Mobile is with software updates, T-Mobile users will probably never get Android M update for Z3.
Wondering if there is a way to install Sony's International software version on t mobile's D6616, so we can get Android M update?
Is it gonna be stable?
Instruction would be helpful, I never done this kind of thing before.
Also, Sony might have new UI for Z3 in Sweden, maybe it will come with Android M in the future!!
What are you talking about? There has been no notice about Android M from Sony or T-Mobile. We'll probably get it 3 months after the international push.
There's no way to convert the T-mobile D6616 to an international model due to locked bootloader. But even if it were possible, you'd lose the 32GB and radio compatibility. At that point, it would be wise to sell your Tmobile model an buy the 16GB international model.
Any news on if buying a US version and flashing another firmware will re-enable the fingerprint scanner? Just trying to plan if I should wait on an international version of the phone, as I don't want it without a working fingerprint sensor.
Yes you can. It worked with the Xperia X. Sony hasn't changed much in the fingerprint hardware. Just have to wait for people to upload EUR Stock roms. It could be a few weeks since UK release date has been pushed back to Oct 17th. I can imagine you will be able to flash it around November. That if you can wait that long. I pre-ordered UK version mainly because Amazon doesn't offer the blue color and Clove UK offered free Sony headphones along with their blue XZ.
Good to hear. I'm in the US. I was going to pick up a black one. No worries on waiting. Given the price drop Sony has done on their recent phones a few months after release, I'm going to wait and see if that happens with the XZ. Also toying with the idea of getting a dual sim one for the extra storage space.
I also order the UK version of the phone just so I don't have to worry about re-flashing to unlock finger print. It came out cheaper than buying it in US.
Yes this is correct. From Clove UK, my total order is $620. And it will be shipped with a free Sony XB950BT EXTRA BASS Bluetooth® Headphones which is value about 150$.
My US version blue Xperia XZ arrived today. I immediately dowloaded and installed the UK Custom ROM and fingerprint manager works beautifully.

I used XperiFirm to download and flashtool to flash the firmware.
Glad to hear it worked. Now, I have to decide if I want the single or dual sim version.
Got mine today in the mail. Loveeee it! The selfies camera is definitely the best I've seen. Way better than Note 7 or S7 one. The light auto adjust sensor is freaking awesome. Just remember to select UK English when first set up. If you choose US English, fingerprint wont work.

Does that mean if we have US version but switch to UK English it will unlock the finger print?

That i'm not sure. Because the UK phone runs UK roms. US roms might have fingerprint completely disabled.

I currently have the Xperia XZ from UK (Clove) and using it on T-Mobile US with no issue. After getting both phones (UK & US model) and checking the dBm, I concluded that both get same amount of reception, they have a same model number. Only differences that I have found between the two are in the firmware which US doesn't have FP and UK does and US graphically shows total of 5 bar for reception and UK shows 4 but at the end of the day they are both the same.
I hope it helps.
I am currently looking into getting this device. Where can I actually buy the 2 sim version? Is it not released yet? I cant find it anywhere. maybe I am looking in the wrong places
Thanks guys
I'm curious to know if anyone here is going to purchase the U.S. version of the phone and use it on T-Mobile or AT&T. Current pre-order sites are Amazon and Best Buy.
I currently have HTC U11 but have always been a Xperia fan and I'm really liking what Sony is offering in the XZ Premium so on a whim I decided to pre-order the phone.
I have T-Mobile for service so I'll be trying it out on that. My concerns are no VOLTE and no WIFI calling. I've been testing my LG V20 for the last week with VOLTE and WIFI calling turned off and it hasn't been an issue or bothered me at all so I think that I'm good there. Another thing is that it's missing the software for fingerprint sensor. I can live without the fingerprint sensor so it's really a non-issue to me but I understand that it bothers others.
Let me and others know what you think about it. Have you pre-ordered or will you order it? Would you use it on AT&T or T-Mobile?
Thanks!
UPDATED: So it appears that the phone I pre-ordered from Best Buy has the model# 8142. This is the same model number for the UK phones per the info from https://www.techwalls.com/sony-xperia-xz-premium-g8141-g8142-model-number-differences/. If this is the case then I guess that I am getting the international UK model, just from Best Buy. The phone listed on US Amazon doesn't have a model number so I'll have to say that it's unknown until someone orders it and can update me. Per that website there is a G8141 but I don't know who is selling it in the US.
Hi - I've ordered from Unlocked-mobiles.com (UK). Its ~100$ lesser + Bluetooth speaker ($150 in BestBuy) not to forget the Sony international warranty. Also you don't need to flash anything since the FP scanner works out of the box. I am using with Tmobile and haven't noticed any issues so far. Several in the US have got it from UK as per the other threads in this forum

Thanks for the input. I guess that a big deal for many is the cost difference between a UK version and a US version and that alone may drive them to opt for the UK version. It's too bad that I'm not too keen on purchasing a phone from UK and bringing to US. I'd rather purchase the US version from Best Buy and include the accidental damage plan to have that extra coverage as well. As a note I haven't owned a Sony phone since the Z3 from T Mobile and believe me I'm pissed that T-Mobile hasn't had a Sony phone since.
If the phones are identical (I think that's the case) then I could flash the UK firmware onto it and use as normal until (if) a warranty claim is needed then I can flash US firmware and off it goes. :good:
I'm interested in purchasing this phone at Best Buy as well and using it on the T-Mobile network. For those that have purchased and on T-Mobile, does the Wi-Fi Calling feature work? I love that it has dual sim capability for when I travel abroad, but I do use Wi-Fi calling just as much. Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

The unfortunate answer to that question is a definitive NO. Something about the fact that Sony doesn't have the device certified by T Mobile is what I heard. Same goes for the VoLTE.
I still use it on TMO though.
Hi,
Which of the many avaible (AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, Canadian, European, are there others?) the most updated version ?
And for the American versions (AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile), are there any particular specifications to ne abile to update them? (for example, I read that for AT&T need to have an AT&T SIM, is that true ? )
THX for all the answers!
is some feature or function broken? if not, must you update ? can you use the phone without updates for years? are all updates actually useful? just curious on your thoughts... im don't know if updates will happen while not connected to usa cell towers, but sammobile.com might help with manual updates via usb flashing.

Simply, if I have to give LG 900$, I want the support that other manufacturers give at the same price.
