I put it in the title, and I'll put it here again because I KNOW someone will ask (or do worse)
THIS BOOT ANIMATION WILL ONLY WORK ON THE P6210 WITH KERNELS THAT SUPPORT BOOT ANIMATIONS. THAT CURRENTLY ONLY INCLUDES MY KERNEL FOR THE P6210 WITH A VERSION GREATER THAN OR EQUAL TO 20120105.
I wonder how many people will ignore that and install it on the 20120102 version (which, honestly, will amuse me quite a bit as it'll have an interesting result.)
Credit where credit is due: The actual boot animation was modified from the animation provided in UnNamed 1.x for the AT&T SGSII by gtg465x. All I did was rotate all the images, tweak the dimensions of the control file, and stick it into a recovery installable update.zip file.
How to install:
Download it. Put it on your device. Boot into recovery and install .zip file from sdcard (or internal sdcard if you put it on the microSD.)
This is completely unsupported... it's only meant as a sample and proof of concept for the boot anims.
This post has a link to a youtube showing the boot anim: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21101682&postcount=8

Rock On dude! can someone post a teaser video! thanks garyd!!
dont know if this also removes boot up sound,
in case anyone cant figure it out it should be /system/etc/poweron.wav, you can play the .wav first to verify, if so rather than delete it just rename to backuppoweron.wav
cheers!
by the way i found a way how to change the bootanimation on my galaxy mini :
1. delete the 'bootanimation' located in /system/bin (better to backup)
2. then copy and rename 'samsungani' to 'bootanimation'
3. then delete (backup) the bootani.qmg located in /system/media
4. copy the bootanimation.zip file to /system/media
and, i tried this on my gtab 7+ p6200.
but on step 3, in /system/media there are bootsamsung.qmg and bootsamsungloop.qmg. i don't know which file to delete/replace.
is the bootsamsungloop.qmg ?
can someone help me?
how come that Gtab7+ doesn't support the bootanimation ? if we got samsung bootanimation means it can support any bootanim i guess. or whatcha you think ?

ive tried this method with renaming both of these files, bootanimation finishes and lockscreen/homescreen come up but bootanimation is frozen stuck covering the top 60% of screen.
I've got this already up and going on my tab with the stock ICS boot animation. Did it late last night. Didn't use this boot animation, modified my own from my galaxy s2.
I'll post a video today on how it looks. Much better than stock.
Thanks Gary.

Eh I wouldn't think so. Its only placing a file in /system/media. Not touching any other files.
As long as you have the kernel flashed you should be good to go.

Is there any way that the boot animation could be silent? The noise is disruptive in public settings if I get a random reboot, so I'm told, lol

Normally there is a power on audio file in /system/media/audio/ui but I can't see one.
Power off is in there though
EDIT found it!
/etc/1power_on.ogg
Delete that and bye bye boot up sound
Same here. its system/etc/1_poweron.ogg just renamed mine with root explorer.
This mod is only a "proof of concept" to demonstrate the changing of the boot animation using the kernel I posted in another thread. The boot sound is unrelated to the boot animation from the kernel point of view. Normally, the boot animation and/or sound would be changed by firmware developers.

Because Samsung insists on using their own wacky bootanimation binary and format.
So you need to either:
1) Replace the binary (manual effort, no "fallback" if no bootanim is present)
2) Add a script to the kernel initramfs that uses "standard" bootanim support if you have one present, and Samsung's as a fallback.

Credit goes to sakindia123 and this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1375547
Step 1 :
Place the files "samsungani" and "bootanimation" in /system/bin
Make sure these files have execute permission (-rwxr-xr-x)
Step 2 :
Place "sanim.zip" in /system/media
This file contains the boot animation. You can use bootanimation.zip file from other threads but they should be renamed to sanim.zip to work properly.
ex thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1053250
Step 3 :
Remove "bootsamsung.qmg" and "bootsamsungloop.qmg" from /system/media
As a standard good practice, you can keep a backup of these files somewhere on your sdcard/pc.
Step 4 :
Reboot and enjoy !
Note : This works on my Samsung Galaxy R with 2.3.5 stock rom.

That's when you don't copy the right sanim.zip to your system/media/ folder.
First of all when you download the custom "bootanimationfile".zip it's not enough just to rename it! you must extract the package, find bootanimation.zip (not sure about location inside .zip but i guess it is /data/local or /system/data/local.) THIS file must be renamed to sanim.zip and copied to your /system/media. IT must work if you followed other steps above. I'm pretty sure it works on every FW!
In my phone there is no bootanimation.zip . There are some bootanimation.omg files. I googled them up an found that they r samsung's propitory format.
Sent from my GT-I9103 using XDA App
Dude...read tutorial and that what I wrote one more time. Nobody said you have bootanimation.zip on your phone. Guide works like a charm!
"find bootanimation.zip (not sure about location inside .zip but i guess it is /data/local or /system/data/local."
Told by you
Then you should cite the whole sentence
" First of all when you download the custom "bootanimationfile".zip it's not enough just to rename it! you must extract the package, find bootanimation.zip (not sure about location inside .zip but i guess it is /data/local or /system/data/local.) "
I was talking about one of the custom boot animations package ( that can be found e.g. here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1053250 ) even localization I mentioned concerns the .zip file not the system folder of your device.
Of course we don't have bootanimation.zip in our stock, we have sanim.zip instead. Which is written in OP's tutorial above.

LOL Kochan - this guy ain't getting it.... maybe he should just download 'ROM Toolbox' and change the boot anim's from there.....much simpler for the newbies
No offence meant at all, sometimes it's just easier to have a program do these things for you ^.^
Change boot animation ardatdat 1.6
Can't figure it out, it doesnt work - no way. Followed the Tutorial exactly and tried different things. Finally i tried the sanim.zip from the first post in this thread. Black bootscreen but with the crappy Samsung sound
Firmware is stock XWKJ4, with ardatdat kernel 1.6
Could the kernel be the problem??
Of course it works. I've used XWLA4 as well. Worked like a charm. It has nothing to do with kernel.
1) Have you downloaded packages, extracted (custom booting.zip )and replaced stock "samsungani" and "bootanimation" (in /system/bin) with those u got from package?
2)Have you removed "bootsamsung.qmg" and "bootsamsungloop.qmg" from /system/media?
3) Have you found a proper bootanimation.zip, renamed it to sanim.zip an placed in /system/media?
If you accomplished all steps above...your bootanimation.zip (sanim.zip) must be corrupted. Remember it's NOT a flashable package.! If you found somewhere a flashable version (it works only on AOSP/AOKP/CM roms) it must be extracted and then the right file must be copied to /system/media.
And one more thing. Bootanimation has nothing to do with bootsound. Wanna change bootsound, go to /system/etc and replace PowerOn.wav (this stands for bootsound), 1_Power_on.ogg (if you ignore this you won't be able to switch bootsound on/of together with setting you phone profile silent/normal) with your preferred ones.
You have to remove samsungani , then place bootanimation.zip
This was sent from a Galaxy Ace. Problem?
@m.kochan10
1. yes
2. yes, but there is also a file called "odeanim.qmg". Do you know what this is?
3. after fiddling around with my own files did`nt work i finally downloaded the sanim.zip from the first post here. I did not touch it and put it to system/media. No success! Of course my own animation also did not work. Tried to generate the animation with this Boot Animation Creator from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1234611. No success!
So there is no bootscreen now, i only see the Samsung GalaxyR letters then straight to homescreen. Thanks for the tip with the bootsound. Thats going to be the next i try. But first i need to change the animation.
Few questions:
a. does it matter if i take jpeg or png?
b. the pics of the animation need to have the resolution of my screen, right? 480x800
c. or do smaller pics just show up in the middle of the screen?
Thanks 4 helping!
2. Leave odeanim.qmg alone It won't help you by any means.
3. I attached a working sanim.zip just push it with root explorer to /system/media and reboot. We'll see if it work.
I'm sorry I cannot help you with your questions about creating bootanimation files. It's not my field (yet )
I give up!
-tried your sanim.zip - nothing.
-downloaded Custom Booting.zip again, unpacked it this time with Winrar instead of 7zip and copied them to system/bin (checked permissions-ok) - nothing.
There are not so many chances to f**ck this up but still it does`nt work.
Running out of ideas what to try out anyway.
So i just wait and hope for ICS, CM7, CM9 or whatsoever and give it another try then.
Where is the thread where i can ask for ETA of these roms?
(just joking...)
Sorry to hear that. Unfortunately I don't own the device so I cannot verify what goes wrong.
In worst case, since you've got nothing to lose, you may try to flash (sometimes you will have to flash several times - i don't know why, but I remember that sometimes I had to do it 8 times in a row before I managed to change a boot animation, you may even try wipe cache/dalvik cache) these zips:
a) Honeycomb - bumblebee 3D - Boot animation (I cannot promise it will work with first flash, but try few more times, it should work)
http://www.mediafire.com/?3kodfmmaxm1le3u
c) Stock One (If you totally give up and wish to revert to stock; same here)
http://www.mediafire.com/?jh76pi7fj6pmr2z
DO NOT EXTRACT: THEY ARE FLASHABLE via CWM!
Since Stock One was no option at all to me: Flashed the Honeycomb - bumblebee 3D once with with wiping cache and dalvik - works perfekt! Gonna try to change it to my own animation soon.
cheers man...

You have probably seen this boot animation before, but this one is made from scratch.
I wasn't satisfied with the image quality of other versions and didn't like the fact that all of them have Nexus logo at the end, so I used original 1080p video as base and added Note 10.1 logo transition at the end.
You can find the original video here.
I converted first part of animation and resided frames to 1280x800 and made custom ending to be more convenient for Note 10.1.
Downloads:

Optimized version
jpg quality: 80%

Version with original sound coming soon. I need to extract and convert audio first.
Flash over CWM.
If you ROM doesn't support custom boot animation, you need to flash Bootanimation4U form this thread first.
All credits goes to the author(s) of the original animation that I just adopted!
If this violates any copyright of the author(s) of original animation, please let me know and I will remove it.
I used original 1080p video as base and I didn't use any part of any similar boot animation.

I am not sure how package for TWRP should look since I do not use it. If package format is same I think that there is no reason for this one not to work.
In worst case, you can extract bootanimation.zip from package and put it to your /system/media/. File need to have 644 (rw-r--r--) permissions.
Thanks job well done even without sound.

If any other custom boot animation work on your device, there is no reason for this one to fail.
I see in list of features of Tundra ROM v.2.0 [UEUCMA3] (which is released today), that it have custom boot animation enabled. I do not know if this is new feature or not.
If you see an original boot animation during boot that is almost sure sign that your ROM do not support custom boot animations.
ROM with support for custom boot animation, when there is no /system/media/bootanimation.zip present, or if that file have wrong permissions (less then 644) you should see default Android animation. To be sure, check if you have /system/bin/bootanimation and /system/bin/samsungani.
If you do not have them, flash Bootanimation4U. Check first post for link to if you need it.
If you have them, check if you have /system/media/bootanimation.zip. It needs to have at least 644 permission (rw-r--r--).
hhmm this is frustrating.. i'm quite sure i enabled custom bootanimation support on dsixda's kitchen... but ValenteL confirmed that he needed to use bootanim4u to make it work.......... darn......... i'll just remove the custom bootanim support in my OP just to avoid confusion... will also check my files here...

There is a thread in the Universal S6 Edge that has some bootanis but after following the instructions it's still not working for me.
Went into System/media and replaced the qmg files as per OP's instructions. However, I'm still getting the stock Samsung bootani. I noticed that in system/media there are lots of other QMG files with the term "boot" in them. I'm guessing one of these files has to be deleted or changed. Anyone have any thoughts?
The files for sprint boot animations are:
SPR_bootsamsung.qmg
and
SPR_bootsmsungloop.qmg
I would goto /system/media, rename the existing SPR_ files to something else, and then rename the bootsamsung.qmg and bootsamsungloop.qmg that were installed from what you downloaded from the other thread to the SPR_ filename.
Should work then.
What about the sound

No need to provide seperate zip files, you can easily extract them from the apk. Here are the steps :
Download the apk file.
Download any root explorer of your choice.( I prefer ES File Explorer)
Navigate to the downloaded apk and long press it.
Under the 3 dot menu select extract to and extract the apk.
Now you will find the bootanimation.zip file in assets/bootanimation folder.
Now go to the root folder and navigate through system>media. Once there locate your current bootanimation.zip file
Long-press your current bootanimation.zip file, and click copy, as we'll want to have a backup just in case. Paste it wherever convenient for you OR simply change the extension from .zip to .bak
Once your new bootanimation.zip has been selected for moving, navigate back to system > media and paste it there. You'll have to overwrite your current animation zip, but that's fine since you have a backup in case something goes wrong. Go for it.
For many of you, the previous step will be the last step. But, if for any reason you're still stuck with you old animation, you can try aligning the permissions of your newly-copied bootanimation.zip file with the permissions in the system/media folder. In our case, those were rw-r-r. Just long-press your new bootanimation.zip file and click Permissions and change them until they fit. The logic behind these abbreviations goes like this: Owner - Group - Other. Read for 'r', Write for 'w', and Execute for 'x'. Save the changes and restart.

Dunno what im doing wrong but even setting the permissions for the zip file is not working in CRDroid.. i haven't tried any other rom tho.
Well to be honest it actually changed but to something completely stock?... dunno how to call it but it just says "Android" and it lights up a bit , doesn't say crdroid anymore but i also didn't get the watchdog boot animation i wanted.
EDIT: Lol my bad was missing a letter faceplam~ , ok now ... is there a way to make it use the whole screen? Right now it doesn't . Thanks in advance

Well the redmi note 4 of course and i said CRDroid on my comment. Maybe there is something bad related with the rom there cuz i always had trouble to change the bootanimation on crdroid...
I did it manually and only that way it worked but it looks weird since it doesn't take the whole screen , then i took a look to the images inside the boot animation zip and i can see they are 768 x 1280px.
So i was gonna extract the images and increase their size to Full HD Res with photoshop and batch processing, but do you think it will work? should i change the desc tex file too?
Because it has the 768 x 1280px written there too and there a "30" next to it ( which i guess is the frames per second for the boot animation? lol).
Thanks in advance
