[Q] sim pin screen problem - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

can't find this info anywhere but please redirect me to appropriate page if i've missed it.
using android 5.1 DU test-v9.2 on nexus 5 32Gb
this has been stable for a few weeks until i changed themes today. i backedup via cwm up after installing theme, on reboot i can't get past screen for sim pin.
i press the onscreen keys, the keys show they have been pressed, but there is no sound or vibration and the numbers don't appear above the keypad.
as i can't get past this i can't use the phone.
changing to the last good backup does not fix this.
I've had to do a factory format and reinstall to get back to a working phone. Though it occurred to me in the middle of the process i could remove the sim and change the settings back.
anyone know what's going on? I suspect it may have something to do with fonts but have nothing to base that on.
thanks

Unique problem - Dialer screen pops up whenever I switch on phone

Hi everyone,
Im facing a very unique and highly irritating problem on my phone. I own a HTC P3350 (Love) handset with a built-in WM6.0. It was working fine till yesterday. Suddenly since this morning whenever i switch on my cell or get a msg or miss call, the dialer screen comes on. (Its as if the green dialer button is stuck, i checked if thats d problem, but that isnt the case).
I even restored my registry and stuff from an old backup i had made. Even that didnt help.
Is it a hardware or software problem? What should I do about it?
All suggestions are welcome. Please help me.
Welcome to forums
Perhaps a hard reset could help
Good luck,
@orb3000: i tried hard resetting too, twice actually. But the problem wasnt solved. Any more ideas??
another thought crossed my mind. What if i assigned some other action to the dialer button and see if it still persists?? i can then rule out if its the hard button problem.. Think it'll work??
The best way to know is testing it!
And what happen if you remove your SIM card? problem persists?
Ya it persists even if sim card is out. Im so frustrated that i'll start plucking my hairs in some time. If a msg is open when i switch it on, it starts dialing d no automatically. Its so damn problematic.
Will the company repair or do something about it? Its 8 months old..
Could it be a virus??
Sorry I dont know what else to recommend, but hopefully another more experienced member can give you better advice.
Be patient!!
oh.. thanks all the same..
can u do me a favour and try to boot the phone up wth the headphones plugged in???
no that didnt work either,,
i just hard reset my phone and i have removed the storage card from the slot. i have not restored from my backup nor have i synced yet. my phone is as good as new with no contacts or appointments. And now the problem has disappeared!! But that doesnt help coz at some point of time i'll have to restore my device which might bring back the problem.
are you using the ones that came with phone and do they double up as handsfree
my line of thought as i had a kaiser with a headphone fault were the wires that made the button to call work were faulty
this meant that everytime the headphones wires were twisted a certain way the dialer kept popping up and dialling numbers
so thgere fore if ur handsfree was connected and then the phone came up without dialer this would mean that there is a hardware fault
my only suggestions now is to flash to a different rom
if the problem persisits then its a hardware fault and youll need to contact vendor or seller

Hi everyone. Thanks for all your suggestions. But none of them seemed to work. I'll just write my problem in detail once again:
My phone - HTC P3350 (Love) with WM 6.0
ROM version: 3.17.720.3 WWE
ROM date: 21/01/08
Radio version: 02.94.90
Protocol version: 4.1.13.44
ExtROM version: 3.17.720.103
My exact problem -
1. Whenever i bring back my phone from stand-by mode by pressing power button, the green call receive button somehow gets pressed from the 'inside' and depending on what window is open the action takes place. For eg: if im on my today screen, the dialer screen opens up; if im on the dialer screen, the last dialed no starts getting dialed; AND THE WORST PART - if someone calls me when my phone is on stand-by mode, the call automatically gets received (coz the green cal receive button virtually gets pressed)!!
2. The super-added problem is that if i press the power button to put the phone into standby when im talking to someone, the speaker phone gets activated and then exactly 3 seconds later the call hangs up.
The problems are so weird and 'funny' that im getting to think its a virus doing all this.
What i tried doing -
1. i hard reset my phone and restored using sprite backup. The problem persisted.
2. So next i hard reset again and restored using PIM backup and restored only the contacts. The problem disappeared for a day but reappeared.
3. So i hard reset again and this time i didnt restore and i also removed my storage card. And now the problem has become unpredictable! It appears sometimes and sometimes the phone is completely normal.
Im trying hard to find a pattern as to when it appears for eg: whenever the battery is low; only during the evening, etc. I dont know but i've not found out any fixed pattern (which i expected if it was to be a virus)
My current status -
I disabled the 'Turn off device if not used for' option in Advanced Power settings. And i never put my phone on standby. I just use the device lock option. But the problem is that battery running out twice faster.
This has just temporarily treated the problem but the basic problem still remains....

[Q] Milestone 2 keyboard stopped working

I recently rooted my phone and edited my keyboard layout files a little(/system/usr/keylayout/). I made up and down "z" and "x" but it didn't work instantly. I backed them up onto my sdcard and have restored them to their original state.
Then, like a day later I noticed the numbers and special characters had been shuffled. I assumed the device automaticly had switched layout from the milestone2 one to the qwerty.kl one. I tried the up and down keys and they produced x's and z's. Then after a while the phone started acting very weird:
The keyboard stopped working.
When spamming keys for a while the phone will go to the homescreen and sometimes reboot.
The menu, home, back keys all do the same thing. It is sometimes something of a combination of back and home. It fades to black and goes to the starting position of the current application. And sometimes the phone will freeze and reboot.
Whenever I use the on-screen keyboard to erase a character or input a number the phone will perform something of a double back-action.
I have tried to to a factory reset in the privacy menu multiple times with my phone un-rooted.
I have also done a factory reset with the 'x' + power then @-key about 3 times but my problem is still there.
Any help on how to resolve this is appreciated.
Thanks!
I fixed it using these:

[Q] Touchscreen stopped working on Nexus S

Hi all
Today I was trying to get my nexus s onto the official ota ICS update by flashing it manually, following guides other people had had success with.
I was on the cm9 ics beta, so I had to flash the full rom of 2.3.6.
This worked completely, however I think the ota update file I downloaded was corrupted, as flashing didn't work, it said something about signature verification failed. So I redownloaded it, from the same link, and the new one was bigger. I tried that, and the same error. I tried wiping data/factory reset etc, and I accidentally started to flash a cm7 rom I had on my phone.
I stupidly did a battery pull as it started to flash (the back cover was off already), and now my touchscreen doesn't work. I was able to successfully flash other roms including the 2.3.6 I downloaded, and I couldn't do the first setup procedure (touch the android to begin). I tried cleaning the screen very carefully with 90% isopropyl alcohol, the same stuff I use to replace thermal paste on cpus.
It still doesn't work. I am hoping it is a software issue that can be fixed otherwise I have to return it.
Someone please help
I have used the search function and none of the solutions I found worked.
(UPDATE) I rebooted again, and when the phone booted into cm7, the "internet" icon(the globe picture) on the bottom left of the dock was in the "pressed" state(orange). It was like the phone thought I was holding my finger on it, which suggested a hardware issue. I cleaned it again and nothing changed. Then I held the phone in the landscape position. When the screen rotated, the button stayed pressed. So the phone doesn't think "this part of the screen is being pressed" it thinks "this internet icon" is being pressed. Rotating the phone again and again didn't change anything, the icon was still pressed in.
Defiantly a software issue. I would try to unroot and reroot. Then if it is still not working, try to format the SD card. You may want to considering buying a USB to micro USB adapter to help you, considering then u could plug in a mouse. I have one just in case I need it.
Thank me if any of this helped
Also try and keep this updated with new info. If I can't help, maybe someone else can.

Thanks techno-update, I will try that. I haven't "unrooted" before, Is that just typing fastboot oem lock or whatever it is instead of fastboot oem unlock?
Also, I found a youtube video with the EXACT same problem.

Skip to 3:15, and you will see when he opens the power menu, the phone thinks he is pressing on one of the options, but he isn't.
I will let you know how unrooting and rerooting goes.
Thanks
(UPDATE)
I tried unrooting and then rooting again. It still does the same thing.
Even in cwr I can't use the capacitive buttons to navigate menus, does that rule out software problems? I am really hoping its just a software problem :/
I need my phone for an outing tonight (im in australia, its 5pm now) and I would appreciate it if some genius could solve this
I am usually the "go to fix it IT guy" in my area, but I can't figure this one out. I have tried formatting the phone, reflashing the mod etc.
Is there some more aggressive COMPLETE wipe or something that fully wipes the phone?
UPDATE 2
Guys please help,
I just flashed zulugen mod, as it has the trinity kernel, I don't know much about android os, but I hoped that that might replace the touchscreen driver or something. The rom flashed correctly, but touchscreen and the capacitive buttons still don't work. Please help
Guys, is there some sort of system partition where the touchscreen drivers are kept or something? And when I pulled the battery as it was flashing cm7, it corrupted these?
Is there some way to fix this?
bump
bump. I need help with this urgently. Is it possible the connections for the screen came loose inside? I would crack it open but don't have screwdrivers for the 3 smaller screws on the last layer of plastic before the pc board.

[Q] Disappearing Dialer on T959v

I have searched heavily for this issue and have not been able to find anything. If I have missed a post, please point me in the right direction.
I have a T-Mobile T959v that is completely stock Gingerbread. It has been carrier unlocked via NCK unlock code. Everything seems to work just fine on the phone. The problem is when I dial a number and press the call button on the screen, the dialer will swoop off to the left side of the screen and never return. The notification bar is still visible. The navigation buttons at the bottom all light up. The navigation buttons do not seem to work during this time. Even after the call is ended by the other party I have to pull the battery to get the screen back to normal and the navigation buttons work just fine until I press the send button when making another call.
I have installed a couple of new proximity sensors. - Did not fix the issue.
I have tried factory resets and clearing cache. - Did not fix the issue.
I have used the Heimdall One-Click to reflash the phone (did not reflash bootloader). - Did not fix the issue.
Anyone experience this before? Is there a solution? Are there any suggestions on what I might try?
That's very strange. I've never seen that before.
If you are willing to read and try, you could try upgrading to one of the ICS or JB custom ROMs here and see if that helps.

I had this before on stock Gingerbread, I just flashed up to ICS. It pissed me off.

Unsuccessful Root of HTC One M7 Need Advice

I have a Tmobile HTC One M7 that I paid $300 for. It was awesome! However, I wanted to root it. So I successfully unlocked the bootloader, installed TWRP and then proceeded to attempt to root. Something went wrong and now this thing is useless! I cannot tell you where it went wrong because when the first sign of trouble appeared I started doing all kinds of **** to try and fix it, none of which worked and I have lost track of what I did in the process of trying to root and then subsequently trying to fix. I know there were some wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache, install zip from SD, I may have even tried to flash a custom ROM without the thing being rooted. I have been reading for days, trying this, trying that to no avail. The phone is brand new, without a scratch. It will power up like normal, but when it gets to the lock screen where you swipe the little lock in the bottom tray to use the phone it will not respond at all! It recognizes the network because it is displayed in the notifications bar up top, it can see the signal strength, it knows what time it is, it knows what the date is, but it will not get past the damn lock screen. ADB sideload works. I was able to push a zip and flashed it, even said android is upgrading when I rebooted, but it did not solve my problem. It will not power off, but when I hold the power button down, to turn it off the back arrow < and home symbol flash and after about 10 seconds a dialog box pops up that says to restart your phone continue to press and hold the power button and starts a countdown. Once the countdown gets to zero it restarts. If I hold the volume down button while doing this it will go into the boatloader and I can get into recovery. Apparently there is no backup to restore because when I try a restore I get the same exact same thing. I thought I had done one, I must have erased it somehow. I have been trying to resolve this for weeks now and am at my wits end. Any suggestions please !?!? Will anyone on this forum take it if I ship to them and fix for a fee? Otherwise this things going in the trash.
