I got my sgs2 about a month ago and its been like a dream, battery lasts for a long time phone runs ultra smoothly no glitches and nothing weird has been happening, but these last few days its just been really weird.
1) it started randomly going into driving mode, i dont even know how to activate it or what it does, but i think its draining my battery
2)When i was watching a tv show on my phone it thought that there was an hdmi cable connected and wouldnt let me hear anything through my headphones. i exited it several times but it still though there was a cable connected. Then i went straight home and quit it from the task manager and it worked with the headphines but that might have been a coincidence.
3)When i connect the charger it takes a while to realize that its charging and sometimes stops charging and says that the battery is too hot or too cold but when i feel the phone it feels completely normal.
4)When i connect the usb cable, other than taking a while to realize that its connected to a charger it doesnt realize that its a usb so i cant transfer files with my computer which i do often
5)I pressed home before and it took me to some sort of clock which i imagine is for a dock but i have no such thing
6) Even after using the phone for a while and using several apps the android os has used 59% of my battery, when usually its the display that uses about 30 or 40%
none of these things had happened before and now they randomly started all at once, i havent downloaded any shady apps so i doubt its malware
any ideas?
thanks
Are you using a stock firmware or custom?
Have you tried resetting back to factory default?

seems like majority of your problems are linked with the micro USB port, try resetting your phone and see if that helps. This is weird though.
It happened once to me on my sgs but that was because I inserted the charging pin without realising it was wet but it went back to normal a few days later and I changed my charger.
i was also starting to think it would be a micro usb problem,
would a factory reset fix it?
if so how would i back up my apps so that i have the same apps with the same progress on them, is it even possible?
or should i just wait and see if it goes back to normal?
I am also having this issue now. I've tried a factory reset with no effect. The phone is now largely unusable. Did you get a resolution? If so, how?
im having the same problem too .. wish it's just a software issue!!
the problem solved itself after a couple of days, i took out the battery and left the phone alone for about a day and after it worked fine again, not sure if it was the time or leaving it without battery but its working normally again
I'm having this exact problem - phone switches into driving mode, then says MTP is connected - then it switcheds to a strange lock-screen I have never sen before. It's really strange. I flashed a nandroid backup from a few months back and still the problem is there. I'd flash back to stock and send it in - but I can't connect to Odin via USB because of the problem. Is there anyway to convert a Stock rom to a CWM flashable file?
I'm desperate to get this sorted.
Experiencing the same. Has anyone a proven solution for this?
My phone, sorted itself out - should I say my wife sorted it out - by mistake. What I think she done was hold down the home button, and then pressed the power off button together and held them untill the phone switched off. When my phone came back on again - she had somehow removed the -Exclamation Triangle of the kernel counter and removed the problems from this post - that I'd been experiencing for abouyt 5 months prior.
Go figure - I now have a SGS2 that works beautifully again and has also had any kernel counter and Custom Rom flashing notifications removed altogether. I wish I knew why this worked, as I'm sure their are many who would like to remove the Triangle without a jig.
The other option that seeemd to work for other people was to clean the MicroUSB port of the device with a dry, clean toothbrush - though this did nothing for my problem. Good luck -I know how frustrating it is.
Help Please
Guys, I am Facing the EXACT same problem.
1.Driving mode on/off automatically
2.Showing a lockscreen which shouldn't have existed on this planet.
3.Hanging up unconditionally. Have to restart phone.
4.Sudden "mtp connections" and because of that "Media Scanner"
I own a Galaxy note just 1 month old! I was so angry that i wanted to sell this. But i couldn't adapt to any other smaller screens so, guess ill try fixing this.
1.It definitely is something related to usb port (Since i cannot charge my phone, i use an external charger)
2.Took my beloved to a samsung service centre, they said phone is waterlogged and showed me the motherboard, saying"IC MIGHT be damaged"
3.Cost for repair - $200
4.Cannot afford that. I am guessing they were bluffing cause i saw the shiniest motherboard ever
5.Please fix this, or ill be stuck with a Nokia 500 !!
6.I can, however afford changing the usb connector, anyone successful with that?
Edit: Did my homework and found out that its definitely a usb port problem. Solution:Clean the usb port. Ill try try it and get back to you ppl. Oh and about 20% of the world's population is facing the same problem.
Edit(2): SOLVED!!!
1. Turn Off phone
2. Remove battery.
3.Take a Brush with hard bristles(Toothbrush/Artist's Brush)
4.Take a pin.
5.Take your own sweet 15mins to perfectly clean the micro usb port using the brush. Nicely and Tidily, give all possible strokes to flawlessly remove any dirt in there.
4.Then take your pin(Be careful here) and gently insert it into the gap between that small metallic micro slab and the bottom part of the usb Connector and gently move it up, VERY GENTLY!!!
5.Clean the battery's charging plates using a cloth, i used my own T-Shirt.
6.Put battery in and REBOOT.
7.Clean the charging pin of the charger using the safety pin/Brush or both.
I have it on for 15mins and no problems. Removed and put the charger again and again, still no problem. After waiting for 1 week, i am able to charge it using its charger! Now lets see whether it lasts......:-/
Edit(3): So, my phone acted up again last night, with driving mode and car dock. I used the pin solution, No problem till now. its Peacefully charging. Bah! it really is annoying
Edit(4): Now, its been 24 hours since my last solution, and phone hasnt acted strange. I guess after another 12 hours ill rule out the permanent solution. Which i used.
same here
Well.. I'm having similar issue. Battery drain and random driving mode/voice search sometimes. It all started after last OTA update and rooting without changing a ROM to custom. I've clean out USB port and no result. Maybe it's time to scan system with AV or unroot device...

I had the same issues 2 weeks after i bought my galaxy s2. Took it to Samsung customer care and they replaced the micro usb port. Haven't had a single issue since.
PS: Try to dry out the port and the phone if it is a water logging issue. I used a hair drier to do that. Luckily the tab that indicates water damage hadn't changed colour.
Had same issue with my Samsung Galaxy Note - randomly going in and out of driving mode, used a dry, soft toothbrush to clean out the USB Charging port, so far so good.
Make sure to flick the bristles of the toothbrush back and forth with your thumb first as you might see a lot of dust fly off of it.
Don't use anything hard like a pin or needle as you might scratch the contacts.

Same here with my gs2... Resolved the issue using some contact spray on my micro USB port.

It's just a software problem, the reasons might be:-
1) you might have opened and closed some huge apps randomly and very rudely..
2) You are low on space on the internal MMC Card
3) Your phone might be performing the restarting apps re scheduler
Solutions:-
1)Factory Data reset will not help as the cache section might be corrupt.. neither the android 3e will help...
2) a)Use odin and download the Latest firmware package from Sammobile's Website.
b) for tutorial on flashing, go http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2488942.
c) Do not touch the phone after processes and restart was observed...
d) Again get into download mode and re flash the same Firmware again...
e) Restart the phone holding the HOME key, (it won't do anything by itself)
f) it will surely fix your Phone
3) Message me if any problem persists...

I registered on this forum just to say that this is a great solution. It looks like my phone is saved now
Hope it will not happen again.
Anyone come across this? I put it on standby last night after reading a bit of my book on it, and it had around 50% power remaining. This morning, it was totally unresponsive; pressing the power button does nothing at all. I've charged it for 12 hours in the meantime.
I've done the following all with and without the power attached:
- Pressed and held power for 15 seconds through to a minute
- Pressed and held volume up with power to attempt to get into recovery for up to a minute
- Pressed and held volume down with powerfor up to a minute
- Pressed and held power while touching screen (read that one off another forum)
I guess potentially it could be on and in a crashed state and unresponsive to the power, so maybe in a weeks time when it runs out of juice, I'll be able to charge it and power it back up, but in the meantime, I'd welcome suggestions.
A few weeks ago I updated it to the official ICS build that was released, but did the update myself rather than using KIES, as KIES didn't even recognise my Tab's firmware original version. It's been absolutely fine before the update, and since. I only mention it because I've read about the Samsung build of ICS being prone to self bricking itself, but I couldn't determine what the symptoms of this vulnerability were.
Thanks for any help offered,
Will
did you try connecting USB cable and plugging it into your PC? did u get any activity? can ADB recognize your tab?
I think your tab just ran out of juice and the battery's protection circuit has kicked in. Try taking it to an electronic shop and plugging in different chargers preferably one with an output more than 2.1 amps to kickstart the charging. Plug it in and wait till the charging animation starts.

Had the same problem while on holidays. Once the battery goes below a certain level, you won't be able to charge it through USB any more. Instead you need to use the wall charger.
I think it's bad enough that the 7.7 doesn't have a micro USB port, but things like that are just stupid and Samsung made a big mistake here. It don't think it's the same with the newer tablets though. It's also not possible to just buy cables or chargers for this strange Samsung port, so when you forget your wall charger at home at some point you won't be able to use your tablet any more.
As long as you charge with the USB cable early enough, you can avoid it though.
A few months ago I experienced the same thing, the Tab just wouldn't turn on anymore.
I tried all there is without any luck.
Contacted amazon and they replaced it with a new one in less than 48 hours.
So far not Problems with the new device.
I have the P6800 and this morning I took it off charge. Put it into standby and only used it for about 20 mins then left in standby all day. It had about 95% remaining when I did so.
Picked it up this evening and the lower left area of the screen was warm and it would not switch on. Didn't think of the ADB idea but will try this next time but I had to reset it and when it powered on tonight after the reset, it was down to 15%. Within about 2 mins of checking stuff it was down to 3%.
Something is running when it is in standby but as I can't switch it on I can't check with BetterBatteryStats or CPUState to know what is wrong.
It does this every day. I am tempted to do a factory reset and reinstall only limited software.
Dave...
I see this thread is a little old but this has just happened to my P6810 too. A pity nobody reported back what the end result was.
My device had at least 95% battery last night but today I can't get it to respond at all, I've tried the wall charger and still nothing.
Anything else someone could suggest for me?
Edit. I tried getting anything from it connected to my PC but it couldn't find a device there. However I then tried it on the wall charger again and now get a blue battery icon, quite big, with a five step animation indicating that it is charging.
No idea how it went flat as the battery on this lasts a long time assuming the screen isn't on. When it boots properly I'll have a look at what the most recent apps I installed were as it has only done this once. Before this it has been perfect for the three weeks I've had it.

hhmmm, interesting.
I was having trouble with wifi just before this happened. Both my GS2 and this have been claiming to connect to my wifi but aren't actually getting an IP address from it.
I can't remember if it was last night or the night before but I manually set an IP address, the signal strength is fine as my abode isn't very big.
After it has recharged I'll have a poke and see what I can find, thanks for the reply.
So my device seems to be working fine again. It had gone SO flat that the date and time were incorrect!
After I could power it on I had a look at Better Battery Stats and nothing looked wrong so I have no idea what happened. None of the apps I'd installed the day before it played up had long wakelocks and weren't running when I turned it off.
For reference they were:
My Tracks
MyTrails
Google Earth
AndSMB
I'd turned both of the GPS tracking devices off before I turned it off for the night.
It hasn't played up since but it hasn't been long so I'll see what happens.
Yeah, the sleep of death is incredibly annoying. Honestly, the GTab 7.7 is a **** device. Samsung made way too many mistakes and won't do anything to fix it.
A similar thing happens to me every once in awhile. The way i check to make sure everything alright is to see if it boots into download mode. I just leave it plugged in for a couple hours and it eventually comes back on.

this is why my 7.7 is the last tablet/phone from Samsung i'll never trust them they are just bombarding the market with new devices and leaving the old ones to dust
^thats what I thought too but that gs4 is really tempting. I've heard worse about HTC in that regard anyways so that why I'm not going with the one.
Finally.. i bought Sony xperia Z.
I'll sell my galaxy tab 7.7. I.m very disappointed with samsung.

Unbelievable! ... this trick still works ... thank you very much for you help ...
^^ yo, this 'trickle charge' trick did NOT work on my (long) dead P6800... any other suggestions??
Quite strange because my Samsung GT-P6800 tablet was fully charged, it went completely blank dark as if it was off. To my amazement, SMS keeps dropping and calls kept coming in. Yet it is still as blank as though the tab was off. I pressed the power button and the volume up bottom for it to reboot. It rebooted without the screen coming up. It has been blank for two days now. What could be the cause? And what possible solution can be given?
Sorry for the length, but its a complex issue, it least its a bit entertaining ... if your not me.
My Sensation took a random fall last week while charging, It just happened to be that it landed on the usb cord and damaged the port. To give you some idea of the extent of the damage the plastic piece internally that has the pins was bent/broken. It obviously would not charge after this event.
I have a second battery and external charger so it was little more then a minor inconvenience to swap batteries twice a day for a few days until I could look into getting the phone replaced/repaired. For the next 4 days the phone worked flawlessly. I took the phone into a reputable repair location and they replaced the MicroUSB port for $45. Since then however I have had a series of issues that are randomly triggered as described below in point form.
1> After getting the phone back I used it for the rest of the day and then went to charge it. It charged for 5-15 minutes, then would stop charging. If I unplugged it and plugged it back in, it would charge for another 5-15 minutes, and stop charging again. After the second cycle I started trying various other charging parts: I tried a different HTC branded cable, different HTC branded wall adapter, a non-HTC branded charger (that worked fine previously), Tried charging with the USB port of my computer, tried power cycling the phone multiple times. None of these had any effect on the charging cycle so I swapped batteries and charged externally. When that battery died I tried charging with my regular HTC charger again and it completed the charge cycle with no issues, Since then I've swapped batteries again and it charged that battery with no issues, so definitely not a battery issue. The non-charging issue has happened a few other times as well, details in the following points.
2> The next day the went to sync my contacts and offload some SD card content. When I connected the phone the computer detected the phone and I chose to sync, its like it attempted to sync a few times before actually completing the sync, the software would say syncing, for a few seconds then disconnect, syncing then disconnected, after 3-4 cycles it stayed connected for a minute or so and the sync completed. Then as soon as it finished the software said disconnected and it hasn't be able to reconnect since. Now when I plug it in, it starts charging but no dialog box prompts for the usual (mass storage, charge only, USB tethering, etc). Computer sees it as a unrecognized USB device. Obviously I have rebooted both the phone and computer multiple times, still no data connectivity. I also tried a different computer that my other HTC device gets synced to and it also does not cause the phone to prompt for what type of connection.
Later that day I turned the screen on to find it saying no SD card was installed, weird... I rebooted, still no SD card found. So I shut it off, removed the SD card, blew it out with compressed air, reinserted and its been fine since.
3> The next day I noticed the phone died rather quickly, I was on the road so I swapped batteries and then I figured out why, after it finished booting up and I turned the screen off a few seconds later the screen turned back on and it waited at the lock screen, I would turn it off, it would turn back on, we had this argument for a solid 15 minutes off and on, off and on I also tried multiple reboots with no effect. Eventually it stayed off started working like normal. it was random times when it would turn on, sometimes 2 seconds sometimes a minute or more. When I would unlock the screen it would be at one of two places, either at the HTC locations app telling me to turn on GPS or with a prompt asking me to choose an action: either Dock or TuneIn (not sure how these are remotely related apps)
4> I keep my auto-rotate off but that night I was browsing with maxton (using the phone in portrait mode, but laying in bed so the phone is in landscape) and it kept rotating. I checked the setting and sure enough auto-rotate was off, but it insisted on rotating. I toggled auto-rotate on then off again, still kept rotating. Frustrated I plugged phone it, and went to sleep, it charged and in the morning it was not auto-rotating, acted as if nothing had happened.
5> SINCE THAT: the random screen turning on issues, charging issues, and rotation issues have each reoccurred a couple times sometimes independently sometimes in combination with each other.
FOR EXAMPLE:
Today the phone worked fine all day, I played games, surfed internet, sent email, charged it, talked on it, etc. Then tonight while talking it started randomly turning off/on, loading Locations, or asking about dock/Tunein, meanwhile jumping in and out of rotate because I was laying down (auto-rotate still off ). This caused it to jump in and out of speaker mode and the other party I was talking too got a real earfull of my feelings for the phone. I eventually left it on speakerphone in the dock mode and finished the call. 5 minutes later the call was done and the phone acted as though nothing was wrong. (At this point I felt like the phone deserved to be the star in a Steven King novel)
A couple hours later I went to charge it and it was doing its charge for 5 minutes, stop. Unplug/plug-in and charge for 5 more mins etc. This argument went on 4-5 times and it still charging now about an hour later.
So here is the question: Do you think this is something to do with the replaced USB port or the process of replacing it, or is it perhaps a corrupt OS? Keeping in mind that it was fine after the fall, no issues until the port repair. I'm running ARHD 6.0.4, I wanted to upgrade to 6.0.8 to rule out OS before going back to the service store, but Mike's link for the firmware upgrade is still down so I'm stuck for the moment, but I don't want to wait too long before going back to them. (if someone has the 3.33 ARHD firmware/radio please PM me I have ad ftp server you can send it to)
Reasons why I suspect/hope possible corrupt OS:
All the issues seem to be potentially software related.
I removed the SD card and SIM when they had the phone for repair, they most likely booted it up without the SD, perhaps there was some system files that corrupted when SD wasn't present?
Prior to the fall the phone had a couple occurrences of software issues relating to the SD card. twice in the last 3-4 months I lost ability to read the SD card but each time it was rectified with a reboot. Also ever since flashing ARHD 6.0.4 I I have had no bluetooth functionality. I could turn it on, but had no control panel to search for other devices or make the device discoverable, so there was definitely a software issues relating to that, I never used BT so it wasn't a big issue.
I'd really appreciate some thoughts, or 3.33ARHD firmware
Thanks in advance

Wow long post XD OK I think your best bet would be to flash a stock ics rom. As it Is essentially the same as arhd ( I believe mike trys to keep it as stock as possible) if you keep getting the issues take it back and say to them. Just make sure they don't know you have changed the firmware in case they try to say You have messed it up and refuse to fix it. Worst case scenario I imagine would be if they damaged the board during the repair, but it definitely could be all software related. So flash stock rom and test for 2 days. If fixed then flash up to mikes update when its up if not then off to the repair shop for an argument

Thanks for taking the time to read it, I know it was super long.I bought the phone with ARHD 5, but had glitches so I read and figured out how to update it to 6.0.4, so my knowledge is really limited to that of ARHD. Following your recommendation I have been doing some reading and I'm still a bit confused. If I flash the stock ROM and I going to lose my root and s-off which I need will need to move back to an ARHD ROM later?
It seems that I have seen more then one stock ROM in the posts I was reading about reverting back, so I'm unsure what one I should use, and will I also need to downgrade firmware and radio to go back to the stock ROM as well? I'm currently running 3.32.401.3CL309896 firmware, and 11.69.3504.00U_11.22.3504.07_M
Perhaps you can suggest a post that will give me instructions and all relevant files I need to revert back, preferable in such a way that I can just move back to a custom ROM later without worrying about all the preliminary work to make the phone ready

1. The current ARHD rom is 6.8.0 and iirc its super stable ..try it and see
2. flashing stock rom ..will restore everything to stock (recovery and rom and obviously root will be gone too ) but SOFF wont/cant be changed ..so you can just flash a 3.33 firmware then a custom recovery and then rom pretty much ..remember SOFF is all that is needed and literally you can change anything
3.right now the current firmware you have is sufficient to update to ARHD 6.8.0 but if you still want to flash 3.33 ..check here
4.for flashing firmware and ARHD rom ..check the stickies in sensation general section ..there is a dedicated thread for this process which was excellently written by joaquinf
I actually work in a repair shop like the one you visited, and I can tell you, it is NEVER our intention to damage the phones more, HOWEVER replacing a charging port requires quite a bit of heat to be applied directly to the Main Board, and occasionally, RARELY, this has adverse effects on the board. Not saying they DID damage it, and definitely not saying they wanted to damage it, but it can happen from time to time. Ive seen it myself.
If changing the software doesnt help, they should have some sort of warranty (we do) and they can try to troubleshoot it or put a different port down, as it may be shorting something out

Thank you for the info and especially the link to 3.33 firmware, since Mike's link is still down. That was really the one piece I was waiting for before moving forward. I know 6.8.0 is compatible on 3.32 but because of my missing BT I wanted to upgrade the firmware before applying the new ARHD in the hopes that it fixes my previous existing BT issue along with the rest of my current headaches. I am familiar with joaquinf's dedicated thread it was what I initially used back when I upgraded to 6.4.0. Very well written and a great help :good::good:
I believe I will try for the 6.8.0 upgrade as my first attempt then stock if that is still giving me issues. I'll post back in a couple days with the results.

Thanks for you input. The thought that they did this intentionally never crossed my mind, I'm sorry if it at all came across that way. There were very accommodating and professional to deal with, and I'd be happy to recommend them as I truly believe this was a unfortunate side effect of the repair. By trade I'm a electrical engineer so I know all to well what the processes required to carry out the repair and the inherent possible risks involved, I considered doing the repair myself, but due to my schedule I thought it was easier to pay someone else to do it. Whatever the cause its unfortunate, but one thing is for sure, If I had of put the phone on the floor and not the night stand I wouldn't be sitting here now figuring out answers.
Lastly:
If anyone reading this is in need a repair shop in Hamilton ON Canada PM me I'll be glad to send you their information.
Thanks again!
Just an update for anyone who googles this and wonders what the results were. In the two days following my last post a couple weeks ago my phone continued to experience the random issues I described, however after those 2 days all issues disappeared and the phone worked fine. After three days of perfect functionality I flashed the 3.33 firmware and ARHD 6.8.0. The phone worked fine for one more day and then the same random issues, started resurfacing, but with much less frequency. So that brings me back to believing there is definitely something up with the physical repair. The issues are very spuratic, and I often get 1-3 days with no issue and then the phone starts spazzing out in any number of ways, for some random time. I don't find reboots or anything specific fixes it, other then just letting it spaz out until it returns to normal. Sometimes a drop of about 18" onto a solid surface such as a table or wood floor stops its spazzing, but at that it sometimes stops spazzing for 10 minutes, sometimes 1-3 days... which continues to make me think there is a short or bad connection somewhere.
HI guys,
So I'm posting this as a vain last resort hoping that someone has had an issue like this before (and resolved it..)
I've had a tf700 for 6 months now. Never had any major issues with it hardware-wise.
About a month ago I got tired of waiting on Asus to update the firmware (and do something about the dreaded lag) so I unlocked and started using CM10.1 nightlies. Everything was vastly sweeter!
Yesterday, tablet was around 50% charge so I plugged it in for the train ride home. 10 minutes later I went to unlock it and ...nothing..nada...zip.
I figured it had locked up so I tried a soft reset. Then i noticed there was no indicator light even though it was plugged in.
Cue an increasingly desperate sequence of trying ever reset option I could find:
Power for 10, 20, 30, 60 secs... nothing.
Power + down vol... nothing.
Power + up vol... nothing.
Pinhole Reset button... nothing.
Plugged into pc ... nothing (not detected by PC)
Checked the charger was working on the dock ... all OK there.
Tried docking the tablet .. no effect.
Tried charging through the dock ... nothing.
Tried leaving it plugged in overnight... nothing.
Basically, there is no sign of life at all (including charging indicator light).
I'm presuming I'll have to go down the RMA route but thought I'd throw it out there for opinions / suggestions.
Thanks
Orko
Ouch.
When not even the charging light comes up... I think you indeed have an RMA to call in. I'm sorry for your loss.
Today I also have the same problem.
On the train on my way to my work i read my newspaper on my tablet, put it of to go to my work, 10 minutes later when I push the power to put it on, NOTHING.
Long press, even everything listed above, nothing happens even no charging led.
I have put cleanrom on the tablet and that worked fine, no more lag much faster, nog random reboots, but now I don't have any warrenty because it is unlocked.
I am really dissapointed now, buying a new one without unlocking is really no option because the standaard TF700 is way too slow.
700 euro waisted...

Hadn't messed with the stock kernel ... think the firmware was 10.4.4.23
Had you both plugged them in to charge on the train? Could the cause be dirty power frying something in the tablet?

Mine was in my office..... Plugged in to a surge protector for good measure.
I see some painful (and expensive) RMA action in my future
This just happened to me as well. I plugged it in last night, and when I went to use it today... nothing. Completely unresponsive, no charging light indicator or anything. Though mine was completely stock, still locked and un-rooted.
Funny that earlier this morning, I had a crack;ing sound from my unit as well, and it acted up afterward. I ascribed it to fooling around with H's kernel too enthusiastically -- I sincere hope we haven't gotten an epidemic of fried Infinities on our hands. The digital equivalent of the zombie apocalypse. :S
Wow another user pm'ed me yesterday with the exact same issue. Unit just died. No power to boot.
How can 4 people all suffer the same problem in one day???? :silly:

Mine went into a bootloop. I struggled to get out of it, because most of my files reside on the microSD and not on internal storage (some older files and backups live there). I was on data2sd initally, but decided to flash normally to determine the problem (suspecting a damaged partition on the microSD) -- the moment I removed the microSD card, the unit would boot fine, but after inserting it again, bootloop. I only saw the very first ASUS logo, before the revolving circle comes up, for just a few seconds, and reboot -- rinsed and repeated that sequence a few times while I was recovering my jaw from the floor. Whenever I flashed the data2sd mod for CROMI, I was screwed, obviously. I have flashed over a dozen times -- one of the definitions of clinical insanity is repeating behaviour while expecting a different outcome every time. You go figure. Fortunately, it was only temporary (at least, I'd like to think so, thank you!).
In the end, I ended up keeping a normal and perfectly functional install, for I still had the 2.5h commute to home from the night shift -- yes, this was towards the end of a night shift :S -- so I could at least read for a bit.
After fomatting everything yet again -- including giving the microSD a digital meltdown with gParted -- I finally got it working again, although I lost nearly all new data since the last backup. Those were mostly pictures from Reddit (earthp*rn, anyone?) and some TED talks, so while extremely annoying, it's not like I have lost pictures of my children or something...
Whew... It sure was an exciting day. Off to sleep now. G'night, people!
wtf? that is strange indeed. I thought it was just a bad power source but the surge protector post threw me off. that sucks, if there is a digital ghost running around which I wouldnt doubt, better keep your tabs protected. I also have heard my tablet crack and pop a coulpe of times since havig flashed multiple roms and kernels on it but nothing with the on mechanism breaking. maybe try going to one of those electronic fixer upper places nd see if they can open it up and see what components got fried
*Caution with the overclocking to everyone that's trying it.
Download and install an app that keeps an eye on processor temps.
My tablet runs hot OC'ed so I got in the habit of watching out for extremes.
Wel,
My kernel is TF700: Clemsyn 1.5 - 1.8ghz 650GPU Kernel and I use it always on 1.5ghz.
when It happened it was not connected to a charger, I just put it of on the train and tried to put it on 10 minutes later.
I don't do anything special with my tablet, just reading pdf, newspaper, foto's mail and facebook.
I always put it in a pretective sleeve, I always handle it with care.
And now just SUDDEN DEATH the only way I can call it, because I did not do anything special.
I would like to remove the battery, I kinow for smartphones when nothing happens then a removal of the battery helps. But can't do that here.
:crying:
Is there no way you can make the battery empty so it will do a reset ?
where can you find the serial number on the tablet

On the sticker near the charging port that says "S/N:".
TF700 dead
I have the same problem. My infinity is unlocked so the warranty is void. One day it just turned off. It will not charge. No charge light. I've tried everything listed here but nothing. I tried a new charge cable, nothing. I even replaced the battery, still nothing. Disappointing for sure. I guess I'll keep it around until someone finds a cure. I'm gonna have to replace it, but definitely not anything else Asus.
My Infinity died too. After unlocking and rooting, I flashed the cleanrom with the 1,8ghz kernel. Everything was fine when I booted for the first time. Used the balanced profile to start with, but since the device felt very laggy and slow, I tried the normal profile. Didn't help, so I tried rebooting it with the new reboot menu I got on the powerbutton. Then the Infinity died. No charging light, no nothing. I ran it for about 10 min on the balanced, and like 5 min on the normal profile.
Mine died with about 30% battery. I clicked a notification and it went black. No charging light. No USB sound from PC when connected. No vibrate. Nothing. Was about 4 days from bestbuy return window closing. Returned no problem.
It was rooted and running stock kernal and had only been on for a few minutes.

It seems it is happening to people who run the overclocked kernal. So I will probably stay away from all oc kernals over reading this thread because I once had it on my tf700 but will never again. Sorry you guys lost your tablets

Hi Everyone here at XDA,
I've been a keen follower of the various ongoings at XDA, ever since my first Android phone the Motorola Defy. I've had quite a few phones since then (currently rocking a yet unmodified Nexus 6P) and I've mucked about with all of them, soft bricked a couple but I've always found a way back from the dead. However, this is something that has me well and truly mystified.
My fiancé bought a OnePlus One a little over a year ago, she had some problems with the microphone during phonecalls (most likely the issue a lot of people had with the noise-cancelling mess-up) so I switched her from stock onto CyanogenMod 13, and no problems since. Phone works a charm.
But recently everything has been going south.
About two months ago the phone started charging STUPIDLY slowly, so I used an energy monitor you plug into the socket to see what was going on. Charger would pull about 2-4 watts, but if you kept plugging and unplugging the phone eventually it would pull about 8 watts, which was adequate. Then things got worse. With the phone turned on, the charger would pull barely 2 watts, turn it off, immediately it would pull 9 watts.
Now it's started to randomly reboot, sometimes getting stuck in a bootloop for 5-10 minutes before booting again. I've spent all day today flashing various ROM's and kernels, and still the issue persists.
We've tried the phone with different chargers to the same result.
Has anybody got any idea what's wrong with the bloomin' thing?
Any advice on what I could try would be massively appreciated.
Cheers in advance

Different cables as well? The cable seriously does make or break it.
If not that, not sure what it could be... What I can say is, replacing the battery isn't terribly difficult, so if you suspect that at all, it's a fix you can do yourself and for pretty cheap.

Thanks for the advice, but sadly it's not the cable. Or the charger for that matter. The readings I get from the energy meter are too consistent. After plugging and unplugging several times the phone will eventually pull EXACTLY 3.8 watts. No more, no less, irregardless of battery percentage. As soon as the phone is turned off and plugged in, starts pulling anywhere from 7 - 12 watts, which is normal pull I expect.
Hence why I suspected a dodgy kernel, but no luck :'(
Hello
Hello, I had a not that much similar problem a month ago but i'm sharing and it might help (you never know). I was on a custom CM13 based rom and phone started overheating even when not in use, charging slow. When I let it charge overnight I would find it very hot and almost always stuck and 99%. Clean flashed different roms and the same continued to happen and it really got me worried!
Than I thought before ordering a new battery or charger lets try something really stock. I installed lastest OxygenOS and viola problem went away. (be careful and follow the steps you need to flash OxygenOS, it is NOT recommended you flash it via twrp). After that flashed twrp again and custom roms and havent had that problem again.
Hope it helps
Yeah, I would say your most probable culprit at this point might just be the OS. Try a clean flash and/or a different nightly or release. Try also a different Gapps package (you never know if it's not so much the OS, but maybe an interaction between OS and other software.

Thanks for the advice, I've finally managed to free up an evening tonight so I'll try putting the phone back to stock. Hopefully it'll work! I'll post back to let you know if I've had any luck.
Put the phone back to stock Oxygen OS, and no luck. Going to use the Tamper Reset Script and try sending it back to Oneplus. Makes me sad that I couldn't sort it myself :crying:
